Nice to see these two giants of the 90s battle it out. As much as I love the bug and think its shape is awesome, the Diablo always seems to get my vote!
@Toddelero from 1987 to 1998 Bugatti was owned by italian entrepreneur Romano Artioli, and the EB110 was made by italian engineers and designers. In 1998 Volkswagen Group purchased the rights to produce cars under the Bugatti marque.
@Bigsnake210 Pagani also happens to be using a Mercedes engine. You know why? Juan-Manuel Fangio himself told Pagani (a fellow Argentinian) to use a Mercedes engine since he had the best experience with them in his racing career. Btw, the Veyron was payed for a developed by Germans, the gearbox by a British specialist, the tires are French Michelin, the 4WD drive was jointly developed by Swedish Haldex, it is assembled in Molsheim, France. What part exactly is Italian?? The name??
Because they could. Someone paying $1,000,000 for a two seat supercar isn't looking for 'smaller' or 'more efficient'. They're looking for the most of, the best of, the greatest of anything else available and the W16 fits that bill.
I would have never guessed 4 turbos would be a useful addition.. you'd think the inefficiencies of having 4 would outweigh the extra compression, but of course I don't know what I'm talking about.
@dude2106 The V10 in the Gallardo is closely related to Audi and partly made by Audi but the V12 in the Murciélago is basically the same engine they put in the Diablo, Countach and Miura. It's an almost 50 year old design. (Though it might be that Audi now builds some parts for the V12 - I don't know)
@SKoGoMoney Lamborghinis share some parts with Audis (switches, sat-nav, that sort of stuff) and the Lamborghini V10 is partly built by Audi, but that doesn't make Lamborghini German. An Italian wine isn't German just because a German owns the vineyard, or does it?
@scrfce123 Super cars from the 90s are both, not just one car. These two cars are not the only cars from the 90s. Look at the diablo, it's front is pretty sharp and flat, but the EB110 doesn't even look like it flows, like the design of the Murchielago does today.
i forgot about these bugattis. i remember having one similar to this EB as a hotwheels car! i think most people nowadays forget they made some pretty fast cars not too long ago. just for fun go ask your friends if they can name 3 bugattis!
Bugatti is headquartered in Molsheim, France - the Veyron is built in the same place. Ettore Bugatti, the founder of the company, was an Italian man that moved to NE France and founded the company there. Bugatti is a FRENCH company named after an ITALIAN owner.
Ginozavi - it is actually made by Volkswagen, so by your logic, it is a GERMAN car. Still, the company is headquarted in France and the car is built there, therefore it is a French car. The company is named after the Italian founder, who had moved to France and founded/operated the company in france. Doesn't make it any less badass.
Il marchio Bugatti è di proprietà del Gruppo Volkswagen, che l'ha acquistato nel 1998. Bugatti was bought by Vw in 1998 but in Campogalliano there are italian engineers that are working with the germans.
Bugatti was french when founded, well at the very beginning it was founded in German territory which changed to be again French, it was founded by an Italian. Then after a period of stop of the production Bugatti was bought in 1987 by an Italian and was also moved to italy, now it's propriety of the German Volkswagen. This car (eb110) was made during th "Italian period" of Bugatti. I took the information from wikipedia.
You have to insert a special key into dashboard to get pass 325 kph barrier and when you do that, the car goes just too slippery for use on the normal road.
I think Jeremy Clarkson is about 6'5", which explains why his kness are touching the wheel, believe me, I can relate. Interestingly, he didn't mention anything about a lack of headroom in the EB110. I always heard that is was too small for anyone over 5'10".
@Bigsnake210 Bugatti was actually founded in Germany. (Molsheim belonged to Germany till 1918) Most of Bugatti history was in France though and that's why I would say it is a French company. Nationality of the founder doesn't matter so much. The most important people behind Volkswagen (Adolph Hitler and Ferdinand Porsche) were born in Austria and yet VW isn't Austrian.
@Bigsnake210 I think you are right in saying that because he was Italian it should be counted as an Italian company, but because it was founded in France you got to remember all the engineers and technicians and stuff were probably French. At the end of the day it's not 100 % Italian and it's not 100% French. It's 50-50.
@Bigsnake210 Horacio Pagani is Argentinian. He was born and raised there and his parants were also born in Argentina. That his distant relatives are from Italy don't mean squat, in that case you might as well call every single American whatever nationality their ancestors came from. Ettore Bugatti built his cars in Molsheim,France and he even raced them in French national racing colors which is blue. The manafacturer was registred in France.What's next is Rudy Guiliani an Italian major of NY?
@Bigsnake210 Hate to point out this to you but the Duesenberg brothers were from Germany, but not once in history has a Duesenberg ever been seen as a German car. Duesenberg is an American car. Sir Alec Issigonis was Greek and he designed the Mini, but does that make it Greek? Not it is British Back in the early days of motorracing car manafacturers raced in their national colors. Bugatti ALWAYS raced in French racing BLUE. Red was the Italian national color, Germany's was white,British green
@Scootertuner1000 Hmmm....In Greece we have the same system like in England Plates never change, and so they reflect the exact age of the car, for those who remember each year's letters (of the plates) And,yes, here every vehicle loses its value very very fast from year to year, even if there is not a new model by yet!
Okay we all know this was the baby step towards the absolutely stunning Vayron, but geeze this had the exact same presence as the Vayron when it was released, everyone talked about it, and everyone couldnt affoard it, Thank you Bugatti for making the ultimate super cars for as long as I can remember.
@CarbineGuy Contradicting yourself a bit? In a previous comment you stated "all the supercars in the 90's were sharp edged". If I am not mistaken, I believe that 'Sharp' is the inverse of 'Blunt'?.. The spaces that were once full of vents and chiseled, edgy lines are now occupied by bland, overly contoured and vacant metalwork. Personally, I prefer the look of a Mig 29 fighter to that of a 747... Probably why I prefer the cars of old.
@CarbineGuy Supercars from the 90's look better than the supercars available today. They look much meaner, sleeker and extreme, yet retain a refined and sophisticated style. Also, unlike today's supercars, each model was completely unique when it was manufactured. IMO, the Diablo SE30 featured in the vid and the Miura are the best looking Lambos to date.
it started in germany then went to france in the mid 80's it went bust but some italians bought it and now its sold to vw so its german again but its made in a special factory in france
@redfoxtrident The actual cost of each Veyron are something like 5million dollars yet they sell them for 1million. If Bugatti wasn't owned by VW, they would be bankrupt. Either VW hopes that they can establish Bugatti as a great brand again and then make it profitable in the future or it's just there to be a marketing tool for the VW group.
My subaru svx has windows like the bugatti but I just wish it had the go like it. Isnt it amazing how supercars have advance overthe past 20 yrs? You can but a zr1 corvette for a 120 grand and it will spank both of these cars. i personally like the Bugatti btw
For just about everyone, Bugatti during the EB110's production time was Italian. It wasn't until the late 90's, where it was owned by VW, and was built in France.
@umagigi But most of Bugatti's history was in France (1918-1962). Today it's just another brand in the faceless, soulless VW Group but historically it's more French than German or Italian.
@Bigsnake210 wiki is a website that is usually wrong, becuz anyone can put up anything, and then ppl can also change the info, go on google, and avoid wiki (not saying ur wrong, jus helping u 4 future sake) :)
@SKoGoMoney Lamborghinis are still made in Italy. Audi obviously influences Lamborghini and parts of the Gallardo V10 and some other bits and pieces are made by Audi, but that's not enough to make it German. Is Rolls-Royce German? Lotus Malaysian? Jaguar Indian?
LOL I am pro American Muscle all the way too! BUT you must remember that if we didn't have these cars, we probably wouldn't have the ZR-1. Things learned from those cars go on to all the cars that come next! These cars set the bar! And you got to admit, the ZR-1 has nothing on the stunning looks of the Diablo! Anyways, all the cars are hot, wouldn't mind having any one of them!!
To the illinformed...the car is italian. Ettore (an italian) was the original founder of the company that was based in france but the original company went under a long time ago. In the late 80s an italian business man got the rights to it. It was based in Campogalliano, Italy. Thats until they went under as well in 1995. VW got the rights to it in 98. The music he used to use for Ferrari segments and the cut to the F50 at 3:57 is excellent
@Toddelero from 1987 to 1998 Bugatti was owned by italian entrepreneur Romano Artioli, and the EB110 was made by italian engineers and designers. In 1998 Volkswagen Group purchased the rights to produce cars under the Bugatti marque.
Screw any new "super" car, I want that EB110 !
The EB110 is such a great car. It would definitely be one of the first car I bought if I won the lottery. It's such a unique car in history.
@Bigsnake210
Pagani also happens to be using a Mercedes engine. You know why? Juan-Manuel Fangio himself told Pagani (a fellow Argentinian) to use a Mercedes engine since he had the best experience with them in his racing career.

They both have gorgeous design. Fabulous, magnificent.
See how the curves through the front of the eb110 remains the historic first cars.
20 years later from this and Clarkson still doesn't quite know that the 'chirping sound' is not coming from the waste gates but the blow off valves
Funny you said that because most people think they're the same.. BOV's release intake gasses. Waste gates release exhaust gasses.. good catch sir
Because they could. Someone paying $1,000,000 for a two seat supercar isn't looking for 'smaller' or 'more efficient'. They're looking for the most of, the best of, the greatest of anything else available and the W16 fits that bill.
so crazy how far cars have come in the past 15 years....in 1995 0-60 in 3.9/4.0 was fast as hell...now most supercars are doing sub-3 second 0-60's...
Crazy how cars have gotten since you commented 11 years ago...
Even worse now with the Nevera R, Tourbillon, W1, etc
@Scootertuner1000
thanks a lot
i didn't quite understand the last thing you told me about the used car prices/ can you explain me??
(i live in Greece)
I would have never guessed 4 turbos would be a useful addition.. you'd think the inefficiencies of having 4 would outweigh the extra compression, but of course I don't know what I'm talking about.

(Though it might be that Audi now builds some parts for the V12 - I don't know)
Does anybody know what the song is when the diablo is shown at 2:52?
Theme from Shaft.
@TheElite1102 ya im not disagreeing with how it looks. I just dont get how it could have 4 turbos and 12 cylinders and it only takes up 3.5 l
my 2 favorite cars in their best colors, awesome
@SKoGoMoney
Lamborghinis share some parts with Audis (switches, sat-nav, that sort of stuff) and the Lamborghini V10 is partly built by Audi, but that doesn't make Lamborghini German.
An Italian wine isn't German just because a German owns the vineyard, or does it?
@Bigsnake210 Ahem. Although the Bugatti name has italian origins, It's a french brand. And the cars are still produced in France.
@scrfce123 Super cars from the 90s are both, not just one car. These two cars are not the only cars from the 90s. Look at the diablo, it's front is pretty sharp and flat, but the EB110 doesn't even look like it flows, like the design of the Murchielago does today.
I love the F50, EB110 and Diablo just a bit more than all of their successors. Crazy to think that these cars are starting to feel like 'classics'!
Anyone knows the song that plays during the Bugatti segment?
Bugatti Belongs to France but the EB 110 was built in Italy.
@gliderpilotNL that was in 2004 now in 2010 it the new Bugatti Veyron gets up to 160-180 im not sure
@CarbineGuy No they don't. Modern cars in general look bloated, rounded and blunt. That's not the definition of sleek...
i forgot about these bugattis. i remember having one similar to this EB as a hotwheels car! i think most people nowadays forget they made some pretty fast cars not too long ago. just for fun go ask your friends if they can name 3 bugattis!
is this on top gear site? why is it watermarked bugatti-fanz?
Indeed. Ettore Bugatti was Italian, born in Spain, and he started a factory in France. The company is currenly in the hands of Volkswagen AG (German).
Ettore was born in Northern Italy, not Spain, you clown
is this from one of his dvd's. if it is which one
I think this Bugatti looks better than the one they have out now. I love the look of all these cars
@jackson92119 He says "They decided to give it 5 valves per cylinder, 60 in total"
Bugatti is headquartered in Molsheim, France - the Veyron is built in the same place. Ettore Bugatti, the founder of the company, was an Italian man that moved to NE France and founded the company there. Bugatti is a FRENCH company named after an ITALIAN owner.

I have both of these as little models in exactly the same colour scheme as the cars in the videos.
Il marchio Bugatti è di proprietà del Gruppo Volkswagen, che l'ha acquistato nel 1998.
Bugatti was bought by Vw in 1998 but in Campogalliano there are italian engineers that are working with the germans.
@HGFFFGP This is one of his old vhs, think it was the second or third video tape
No Aston Martin is from Great Britain and the mclaren is also a Great Britain workshop that go with mercedes if i'm right
Well i assume since it has 4 turbos it has at least 4 intercoolers. They veyron has 8 intercoolers.
The old Bugatti looks even better as the new one.
Did they have the "stig" back then?
why did they give the bugatti veyron 16 cylinders instead of 12? anybody know exactly why?
Bugatti was french when founded, well at the very beginning it was founded in German territory which changed to be again French, it was founded by an Italian. Then after a period of stop of the production Bugatti was bought in 1987 by an Italian and was also moved to italy, now it's propriety of the German Volkswagen. at end who is driving that red car? Is that Borat ?
You have to insert a special key into dashboard to get pass 325 kph barrier and when you do that, the car goes just too slippery for use on the normal road.

@Jorskin24 Yeah it is.But the newer ones are sweet.
V12 quad turbo 600bhp... today a twin turbo V8 of the same displacement has about 150bhp more.
@desimunda116 don't forget it's a 3 and a half liter v12 ... and then it comes to you that it has 600 bhp :)
How do you make a V12 thats only 3.5 liters? This is my favorite Bugatti by far.
well lambos miua and 1st countach was 3.9
@Bigsnake210

Bugatti has been revived TWICE
no this a v12quadturbo i wuz describing the veyron and there are more than just supercars in the bugatti range there is the type 57 and the royalle

How can a used car be more expensive? Second, who would pay more for a used car?
2 of the coolest cars from the 80's and 90's
90s
Which Bugatti is that?
Which episode is this??
Actually, the Fundator of Bugatti is italian, but the brand was registed in france. So i think it's french.
what year is that
dude clarkson and myself are 6'5'', how tall are you?
@nickelbackrocks74 agreed. they've come along way design wise.
it started in germany then went to france in the mid 80's it went bust but some italians bought it and now its sold to vw so its german again but its made in a special factory in france

true...even a lister storm features a 7 liter V12
@SKoGoMoney
Lamborghinis are still made in Italy. Audi obviously influences Lamborghini and parts of the Gallardo V10 and some other bits and pieces are made by Audi, but that's not enough to make it German.
Is Rolls-Royce German? Lotus Malaysian? Jaguar Indian?
@Bigsnake210 Check the facts, mate. While Ettore Bugatti was an Italian, the company was founded in France, making it a French company.
i think they should put wut episode it was
LOL I am pro American Muscle all the way too! BUT you must remember that if we didn't have these cars, we probably wouldn't have the ZR-1. Things learned from those cars go on to all the cars that come next! These cars set the bar!

Could I get a "buy one get one" deal on these?
they can make fun of the lambo all they want, but its the sexiest car on the road....
Bugatti was originally a french company founded by an Italian in 1909.
That company had problems selling cars after WW2 but still made airplane parts and was sold to Hispano-Suiza in 1963.

EB110 is a BEAST !! Love it....
good old old Top Gear, and a royal nice Bugatti there.
But then didlo are right ?
whats the music?
these r old school classic supercars...but it almost makes you laugh at the styling of the late 80's early 90's. cars today look soo much more beautiful. god i love my techart 997 ^_^
@099psp not the 2010 bugatti
~David
@jfn1103 Actually, it is a W16.
VACATETHE48 wrong. Eb110 has exactly what he said. The veyron however does have the w16
@circusclown1232 The ss veyron is for now the fastest production car, but ssc the company that beat the original veyron record using(ultimate aero) have said their new car the tuatara should reclaim that moniker.I wonder if this will be a two horse race or if anyone else has something up their sleave! Either way i think it will be fun to watch for all of us!
did that say quad turbo???
depends on how far back ur willing to go
Because they don't know how to tune an N/A engine for power I guess.
Actually, I would go with "Supercar syndrom". You ask, why have 4 turbos? The answer is, because 3 is an odd number to have, and 5 is hard to fit under the hood.
@AnubisEvalyna I know, i'm sorry, i was just a bit upset because of some comments, you are obviously right =)
God bless Europe.
