- Last year, an all-new GMC Canyon arrived, taking the truck to new levels of capability and off-road performance with the debut of the AT4X. Well, something told us that story wouldn’t end there and, indeed, GMC has now teamed up with the folks at American Expedition Vehicles. So, let’s see if their dirty deeds lift the Canyon to the next level.

Cool looking truck but I miss those small little pickups from the '90s they were just perfect
Yep, they were great
Everyone liked the small ones. Change wasn't at request, it was by force.
I just sold my 87 nissan D21.
@@CalvinHikes crazy I'm subscribe to you but yeah it sucks that you have to sell your baby imagine trying to find another one again It's like a treasure hunt 😕
SPOILER ALERT.
$65,000 eye watering dollars. A 4 cylinder truck with a mullet.
A mullet is called A. Mississippi mud flap
$66k
And worst gas Milage too!😮
Lame
Can we stop calling these mid size please? They are huge, don’t fit in many garages either.
Calm down, It's the EPA classification 😂
Garages need to be made larger.
@@6ec6YRFPTcCI’m pretty calm, I appreciate the concern.
On the inside, they're mid-size. Really, barely mid-size. That's purely due to EPA classification. On the inside, they're about as large as full-size trucks from not long ago. And that's purely due to CAFE regulation.
Honestly, cars and trucks would be more sensibly sized, but nonsense standards dictate just how big or small they can be.
you must have a small garage
Sat in it at the New York International Auto Show. For a big truck it feels cramped and that A-pillar creates a massive blind spot. I like the way it looks, though.
Yet it's not a big truck
65k for a 4 cylinder midsized truck is insane.
Yeah but you get 14 miles per gallon.
$65k For a mid size is absolutely insane. I can spec a full size truck for that price that I'd be very happy to live with
310 hp and 430 ft lbs of torque........ At what RPM? All reviews of these turbo 4-bangers conveniently omit this vital info.
310 hp @ 5,600 rpm, 430 lb-ft @ 3,000 rpm.
And I agree, it should be included in every review.
14 MPG. WOW!!!
You do understand it has a lift and 35in tires🤔
@atg1338 You do understand the Silverado trail boss crew cab 5.3litre V8 with the 10 speed automatic rolls at 16mpg?
@@douglasb.120316 MPH? Makes no sense what you've said.
@@nwezetx1 To be so incredibly smart not to realize a typo. You be you.
@@atg1338 General Motors is one of the largest automakers in the world. I understand getting that fuel economy after taking your vehicle to some shop and getting aftermarket mods thrown on. But to sell that at a dealership is wild, they should be ashamed. They should be ashamed because it shows a total lack of skill in their engineering department.
It looks way better than the new Tacoma
I agree on that part!😎👍but the gas mileage is horrible!
These seem bigger than the full size trucks of the 90s. I was just admiring a mid 90s Dakota with a V8 the other day, missing the simpler times. I'm getting old apparently....
@dirtystockcardriver The 90's Dakotas (before going angular) with a fuel injected 318 are the shit. Great truck.
Seem, but outside of height, they are not. Compared to a 2001 F-150 SuperCrew, it's narrower and shorter. Without the lift kit and tires, it's smaller than the Y2K F-150.
Great styling but a 4 banger & modern GM reliability make it a hard “no”.
Agreed. They are forbidden fruit
My 97 blazer cost 1000 dollars and gets 18mpg 😂😂😂 gm needs to stop ✋️ 🫸
14 mpg off a 4cyl? LOL
Those tires aren't helping, but I agree, it's a joke.
I’ve got the 2023 at4 canyon and I get a combined 24MPG. It’s hard to believe they’ve killed the fuel economy that much.
@@rickmcneal1660tires and lift
A v8 from the 1990’s would get the same mpg and should better.
Make this 40k.. and you have a deal. Lol
Wish it had a V6.. I'll stick with my Frontier. It has a much more reliable engine and actually gets 23 mi a gallon on the highway even with a slight lift compared to the 14 miles per gallon out of this thing. 🤣🤣
Agreed. I don’t understand why too many truck and SUV makers are dumping the V6. I’d like to see an inline 6 come back.
In a few years you will be looking at reviews with three cylinder hybrid trucks with 12 speed transmissions.
@@bikdavthe whole point of smaller displacement turbos is their efficiency . Worse MPG than a 6 is ridiculous.
Yeah but your stuck driving a Nissan Frontier 👎🤣🤣🤣
@@atg1338 what's wrong with that when they're selling like crazy right now and they're actually reliable compared to this turbocharged for cylinder which I've already seen has had numerous reliability issues??? Before you criticize the frontier maybe you should do some more research next time because it's actually "reliable".
all i have to say is, this is very TUFF. but the EPA ratings were 16 across the board, so that's a tie.
Those prices are crazy!!
This needs a 400+ horsepower engine asap to make it a contender.
What a point here GM tries to make , 4 bangers engine all about higher gas mileage but here packaging high compression high inject fuel to yield high output ... the only thing worse is more problems on the ownership.. prefer big engine low compression, same output that makes it last.... well, customer's demands
No they are not about higher mpg
Hey, what's that wheel sitting on the floor? Oh, we forgot to find a spot for the spare, ah just put it behind the driver so they can't see anything. Yup, looks good.
75K for chevy that gets 14mpg.
I like watching reviews and I think that's a good looking truck but I don't live in the same world.
I live out in the country and can't justify paying that for a small truck
In a few years , midsize trucks will be as big as today's eighteen wheelers
Needs the 3.0 V6 TT
14 mpg for a four banger...
more weight less cylinders
modern car manufacturers have fallen in love with small turbo type motors ..at 65k this needs a small block or a v-6 engine ...
Or a turbo 4
Everyone should keep in mind that this GM engine has cylinder deactivation. So have fun running around on two cylinders….
Cafe needs to go. We are not running out of oil and even if we were wouldn’t that speed are adaptation to electric cars which is the government’s goal in the first place.
Lets just tack on as many random letters and numbers to the trim name as possible
And it's called an EV lol
@@sjhudon386🤦♂️
Man beautiful truck indeed! But i get better gas mileage on my jeep wrangler than that 4 cylinder!!😮 I average from 18-19 to 20 mpg depending on how I drive!! That’s unacceptable for a 4 cylinder! Yikes 😳
thats a mouthful
I need to see who’s following me!😼
Waaaay overpriced, and it's a bit tight inside. With the driver's seat back far enough to get comfortable, there is no room in the back seat for anyone except infants in a car seat. And what's up with the spare tire mounted in such a way as to obstruct rear view vision? And $65K? The 2025 Ranger is looking better every day.
Lousy truck, really another produ t of an industry which has junped the shark. Good review however! I appreciate the standard testing metrics and format which is followed here in this episode.
Terrible acceleration for that amount if power, even if it is a heavy pig.
That thing will be rusting on the dealer lot.
