- FISHING THE LAST OF FLORIDA'S PRISTINE BACKCOUNTRY //
On this episode of Abenz Fishing I went on a journey to my home town of SWFL to showcase what's left of Florida's OLD backcountry. Today, we have developed over almost every part of Florida's backcountry and fishing can seem like you are in a concrete jungle. There is not much areas left to fish that resemble what Florida used to be.. Seagrass, flats, and a healthy environment.

Awesome video, man that’s our neck of the woods know all those spots. It’s made a massive recovery since Ian, mangroves were bare and it was a wasteland for the better part of 8 months. Such a big difference the last 6 months or so! Come back down we’ll have you out on our boat for a collab! 🤙🏼🎣
Great video bro. It’s crazy the decline of Floridas inshore fishery. Amazing captures on the drone and great catches🍿🎥🔥
Thank you bro! 🙏🏻
Man great catch and great loss too! Lol. Still can’t believe it snapped the line. I fish areas just like that in Cape Coral when I go visit family. Love it!
Thanks for watching!
I’ve lived in Florida my whole life (22 years) and have been fishing almost all those years. I don’t think most people understand that without the proper knowledge of the area and actively trying to contribute to make it better, our ecosystem will only suffer and it is up to the people on the water to spread the right info and try to make strides towards change as a collective like this video suggested. Being a good angler is about being grateful for your home and the species that call it home too.
Down in dulac Louisiana everything is changing to land washing away fast I remember this lil bayou I knew now it's a lake times or getting rough an rougher....SMH
Pretty sweet bite!! Very different than your usual! Appreciate you doing something different. keep em coming bro!! hope u had a nice Thanksgiving with your fam, and hope the rest of the holidays go well for ya!! peace!
Thank you man! It was an awesome day for sure - happy holidays!
“I got everything…I got you not reacting” 😂😂😂 classic
Lol 😂
Very cool to see you fish in my hometown been watching you’re videos for a while keep up the good work
PI sound is definitely one of the top fisheries in the country all thanks to the lack of development on pineisland and the surrounding barrier islands. Hopefully it remains that way.
Your videos never disappoint either. I’m still waiting on my first snook though. (South Texas) Only seen one (roughly 32”) in the wild last winter where I fish when I was netting crabs. If I had my lure rod on me right then I would have had a good shot at catching it too.
Thanks for the view man - wild to here you saw a snook in Texas!
@@AbenzFishing always brother, and I couldn’t believe it either where I am mid-coast. There is a lot more snook further south down the coast in Texas, I’m hoping they get thicker here where I am one day.
@@clintklare7747 they very well might with warmer waters. They’re moving north in FL
@@AbenzFishing I sure hope so man. I know you stay on them too! Hoping I can make my first trip to Florida next summer/fall.
Thought I saw you coming out of the pass when we were heading in. Great to see an ABenz video in my neck of the woods!
That’s awesome - we were there
Very Fun Video! Thanks for Sharing. Loved it!!!!
Awesome to hear! Glad you enjoyed 🙏🏻🤙🏻
Always look forward to your videos you put out Aaron, very informational and great to see that you share a great passion for the aquatic life in our waterways i think it is awesome to see the brother an sistehood that has become of it an that we all share that same passion together for fishing an preseving our aquatic ecosystems. If you are ever here in the Brevard County area, it would be awesome to run into you and maybe share a fishing story or two. Be safe and Happy Holidays.
Thank you! Happy holidays!
Great slam Aaron! Really fun video to watch. I hope you and the family had a great Thanksgiving!
Stay safe out there brother.
Thanks for always tuning in! Happy holidays!
It’s sad for me because we moved here from Long Island 4 years ago. I have a great local fishing buddy who used to live on Long Island too but he’s been down here a little over 20 years. He said the fishing started declining about 5 years ago so I missed the tail end of the “glory days” by a year 😢. He used to catch snook everywhere here in SE FL but now we both struggle. We’re both land bound anglers so that doesn’t help.
It’s definitely not ideal but I’m still an optimist for the future. Fish are smart, they are moving
I got a 35” snook last week on a chunk of whiting last week. I love cut bait!
That’s epic 🤙🏻
Sick video! In my experience reds dig harder for longer than snook, but snook just do snook things lol iykyk
1000%
We still have some untouched areas here in the bay. Just so much pollution the sound end is the only side with hardly any clarity
Live in Marco. We chunk for Snook and Reds all day. PB on both off a Mullet/Lady chunk!! Peace
That’s awesome man
Nice content! Love to see the switch up
Thank you 🙏🏻
Yessir bud ready for 10k
Soon!
The only time I throw chunk bait is in winter when the fish stack up in creeks. Mostly redfish but with some black drum mixed in. I throw lures only for slot fish the rest of the year. I also throw 12” mullet for sharks and trophy redfish at night except winter time.
Dang , you are cool as heck…
@@CoastlineAdventures there’s always that one idiot that has something smart to say. Hope that makes you feel good. I wasn’t talking to you in the first place.
Hey Clint, I just started targeting reds and I’m having a lot of success catching small ones, up to 22” using small jigs and shrimp. Do you think if I soaked some big chunk bait I can catch a bigger red or do you think I’m just in with the puppy reds and need to move to find bigger fish? Any tips would be greatly appreciated 🙏🏼
@@bigfishlilfish2 hey buddy, I would definitely try cut bait if you can’t get some big live baits to use for targeting bigger redfish. Blue crabs and mullet are my go to for targeting the big boys. You can fish piers, jetties, surf, oyster reefs, and grass flats if they are easily accessible. The big bull reds are everywhere, if you are somewhere here on the Texas coast you can find some with big baits. If you don’t have luck where you typically fish with big baits, I would move around and try something different.
Awesome video!
🙏🏻
Crappie jigs are the best thing to catch lady fish
Show us how to fish w a bucktail!
What’s the name of the shrimp bait that he was using and he was catching all that snook?
It was a vudu shrimp
What color way was the vudu shrimp
Thanks to northerners moving here and ever since Covid it went downhill really quick
Yes
under pressure trout bro...nice job
We had to make it happen. Legit last spot, 2 min from ramp
you forgot flounder. they are hard to target.
Flounder are a tough one but yeah, we forgot them, sheepshead, black drum
I been tearing them fish up dude idk
Fishing is still great, just not as great as it once was.
@@nickleback3695 While your statement is likely true, keeping a mentality that it isn't as good as it once was will eventually cause that to be the only thing you feel. At least this is my mindset on it.
How do you go fishing but forget the one thing you need to go fishing 😮,🤔🤨
East cost fisher man swear there fish are huge we get the same size fish
I lived there for 22 years and here for 5, I’d say the average size of the fish around here is larger but the volume is greater there. In general, the fish are more easy to find in east coast, not as vast, that probably creates the illusion that they’re always bigger. The big girls on the west coast are smarter and have more places to go.
Is that your new boat?
Yessir
@@AbenzFishing Nice! I just bought a Hewes RF16 recently and I love it. Hope that Mako treats you well!!
@@Oakleyshooter you’ll be stoked on that man. They’re the best
It’s better than Connecticut. Why is Florida boy complaining? Man I’d kill to get a place in Florida.
Because I’ve lived here 30 years and know how good it used to be.
@@AbenzFishing It’s still better than more than half the country. Man you should come to Connecticut if you think Florida is bad now. You wouldn’t last a day without making a video of a rant. 😂
@@warlordop713 I lived in MA for 5 years and fished Connecticut and the NE the whole time. There’s work to be done everywhere but I’d argue Floridas natural estuaries have been affected more than the NE. The Everglades, the largest naturals wetlands in America, are literally 10% of what they used to be but I’m not going to get into that on RUclips comments
Stay out of Florida. To many non locals are flooding in and ruining it. We don’t want you here
what reel were you using
It was a stradic
@@AbenzFishing what size reel?
@@BonnetHead_Fishing a 3k and 5k
3 hours and you forgot your gear.. bro
Everything… lol
Greed is more important
Sad truth
Cry me a river. Fish love docks and concrete.
Larger predatory species do, yes. Seagrass and mangroves are vital to a healthy ecosystem. Smaller fish utilize them for habitat and they help provide shelter, oxygen, and more. If you don’t see the decline of Floridas fishery, you’re part of the problem.
So you want to share this area but all you can say is south west florida. Idk if you know this but that’s a big area. Thumbs down for me
He say it in the video at 34:14
Shit fishermen need garmin, drones and livebait
Don’t even think about LiveScope. That would blow your mind!
Oh, and a trolling motor with Spot Lock and Contour Trolling.
Be well.
