In Greek mythology, Terpsíchore (Τερψιχόρη, ‘the one that delights in dance’) is the muse of dance. Although in her origin its attributes are not delimited, from the classical era she is also associated with light poetry. Like all muses, she is the daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne (memory).
She is represented as a slender young woman, with a jovial air and light attitude. Garlands of flowers form her crown and between her hands, she holds a lyre.
