In Greek mythology, Euterpe (Ευτέρπη, ‘the very pleasant one’, ‘the one of pleasant genius’ or ‘the one of good spirit’) is the muse of music, especially protective of the art of playing the flute. Like all muses, she is the daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne (memory).
She is usually depicted crowned with flowers and carrying the double-flute between her hands. On other occasions, she is represented with other music instruments (violins, guitars, drum, etc). A few say that she invented the aulos or double flute.
