In Greek mythology, Polimnia (Πολυμνία, 'The one of many hymns') is the muse of poetry-lyrical-sacred, that is to say, the one of the sacred songs. According to several traditions, she was the one who invented the lyre and agriculture. Like all muses, she is the daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne (memory).
She is usually depicted dressed all in white, reclining or resting her elbow on a pedestal or a rock, in an attitude of meditation (thinking) with a finger placed in her mouth. Other times, she is represented by wearing chains as a symbol of the power exerted by eloquence. In other representations, she appears covered by a veil, showing her sacred character.
