Geeze…never a dull moment with Shawn…what a Killer riffs and leads….absolutely love your vids and even more so your playing …..you gotta get out and tour…..you’re too good to not share with us live……just awesome…..
friedman always makes the best gear although i can't and probably never will be able to afford his gear my ear has never failed me. great vid and demo tune shawn
I definitely prefer this box over the IR-X though I believe the UA Woodrow with a drive pedal has me covered but this guy and a delay+reverb could be a desert island rig. Shawn, you must have been a fan of the Dregs!
@@ShawnTubbs thanks for answering. I've got multiple including a Roger Mayer when he had his business going in the early 2000's. They sound fantastic into a tube amp. I ordered this sucker anyway. LoL. If I don't like it I'll send it back. I know this has pre amp tubes but I was worried that going into say a pa with a digital power amp, it might get nasty in a bad way.
Which between the two (IRD - IRX) has better cleans and mid push? I'm not really familiar with the amp range but I like this product. I guess another way to ask is if you are fan of like Tom Petty, Aerosmith, AC/DC, etc are they both equal or does one shine more for those categories. As far as metal I like (Van Halen, Metallica) but not djent or thrash metal.
Is THIS Preamp capable of more of the cleans and in betweens ? I would love to hear it with JJ803S tubes to see if it might warm up even more . And round out the cleans .
1.yes great for solos you also have a boost but you can use it with other pedals if you want gain for metal 2.if youre going to swap tubes go for the best old mullard i63's for the best low mids on earth, it comes stock with jj tubes.
Sounds great! Bummer it’s called IR-D, here in New Zealand IRD is the inland revenue department who collect taxes etc, so many people dislike them. Esp musicians. Ha
I like to hear this with your touch ...to milk the tones... Friedman is amazing to get all this with only 2 tubes ...I always wondered about a faux phase inverter tube included in direct stuff ..but I could not afford a custom famous designer to do it - they need a lot of R&D they said ..and a lot of money - that was long ago ...though .
As josephestes notes, really it's meant to either go direct into a PA or the board, or you can easily disable the cab sims and run into the fx return or poweramp input of an amp, but it really isn't meant to act like a drive or boost pedal you put in front of an amp.
The IR-X is more of a 70s-80s Marshall sound. The IR-D is more of a 60s-70s Marshall sound. The IR-X is higher gain and tighter, with more upper midrange bite. The IR-D is lower gain, looser, and fatter.
Thanks for the excellent demo . AND the summary . It's excellent ...I think with a few tube swaps ...it might sound like the CAE+ close enough anyway...singing cleans / Carlton- Lukather crunch - that clear gain sound. I am not bringing back the 70's ... but it was a great Era ...
i bought the IRX when you demoed, the problem that i had was that if i wasnt dimed the volume it sounded very quiet.... Can you mr Tubbs confirm if its the same with the IR-D

@@ShawnTubbs New album, please!
Man. First the IR-X, now the IR-D…there goes my refund from the IR-S.
😂
Well played 👏. Well played

Thank you Shawn for being an influence!
Great demo Shawn!
Man, that’s a great sounding box. I have an IR-X that’s the heart of my gig rig.
Dude, that playing was over the top of all things over the top, wow!!! This demo and Michael Neilsen's are my two favorite of the IR-D
Thanks so much! Michael is one of my favorite people and musicians.
Man Shawn great tone and incredible playing! Love the intro tune!

Incredible player incredible reviewer truly one of the very best on RUclips!!
Thanks so much!!

Excellent demo, Shawn.
Thanks so much for the support!!
Great Job Shawn!
Thanks so much!!
Sounds fantastic. Thx Shawn😊
Thanks for watching!!
Nice Demo
In a busy distracted live show, I would need the channel lights near the foot switches.
Absolutely stopped me in my tracks. I had to sit down and take a breath. Bad Ass playing and killer tones Shawn. 👌
Thanks so much for taking the time to watch!!
Hot diggity! Love the intro tune ❤
Thanks so much!!
Cleans are much better than the IR-X for true clean and crunch but can it go to Fender cleans ?
friedman always makes the best gear although i can't and probably never will be able to afford his gear my ear has never failed me. great vid and demo tune shawn
Thanks so much!!
Your my favorite man, you sound sooo killer!!!!
You are very kind indeed!! Thanks so much!!
Holy shit, Tubby! I don’t see you much numb kid, you rock!!!!
Haha, thanks for chiming in!! You're very kind!!
You sound great. Dave’s really gone Acoustisonic on this one
Cool !😉
Killer! Reminds me a Blues Saraceno track!
Wow!! Thanks so much!!

The IR-X is definitely a different animal. Both are great! Steve Morse haunts me in my sleep!!
Shawn Tubbs is one of my top five most favorite guitar players of all time.
Wow!! What?!! Thanks so much!!
✌🏻
Great video! Was wondering if you could try it with a fuzz face going into the front if it. The fuzz is the ultimate test.
What fuzz pedal do you use? I have several that are based on the "Fuzz Face" circuit. They all sound fine into a tube front end.

IRD IMO is the way to go based on your stated tonal parameters. Thanks for watching!

Nick! Move to my neighborhood then! Looking forward to jam! Cheers, John.
Hmmmmm.... I have a signature pedal called the Tilt Overdrive... The first idea was to call it the "STD"... I went with "Tilt Overdrive"...
@@ShawnTubbs well with the names of Dave’s amps STD kinda works…haha thanks for great playing and reviews.
@@ShawnTubbsoh man, lucky you didn’t go with STD as no one would be able to get past that. Ha
Why do I want this so badly?!?!?!
Hmmmm....Thanks so much for watching!!

My ideal is Fender/ Dumble on cleans/I use a lot of chords that need to be clean er ... and Dumble/ Marshall on CH2 ...
Is that plugged into an amp or is that sound coming from computer speakers.
The IR-D is directly into my Apogee Quartet.
Pardon my ignorance, but can these types of devices be run through a Fryette Power Station? If so, how? Sorry, im an old tube amp guy.
It’s a preamp and Fryette is a power amp, so perfect match.
You can absolutely run it it that way!! Just run the FX send out of the IR-D.
This can go straight to PA or powered studio monitors?
Hell yeah
Yup!!
Maybe there will be a Jake E. Lee or Jerry Cantrell model in the future too. 😀
That would be very cool!!
How is this pedal really
So it’s not made just to run into the front end of an amp?
I think you could if you disabled the cab sim. Also you could run it into the fx return that way for sure.
As josephestes notes, really it's meant to either go direct into a PA or the board, or you can easily disable the cab sims and run into the fx return or poweramp input of an amp, but it really isn't meant to act like a drive or boost pedal you put in front of an amp.
You could run the FX send out into the front end of your amp, but the IR-D is really voiced to be a preamp. Thanks for watching and for the question.
Oh sure Shawn, ANOTHER Tyler? The fist step is admitting you have a problem.....
Haha, I just got that one back. I bought it back in 1999.
@@ShawnTubbs I lust Tyler!
Isn’t the other pedal dual tube?
Sounds the same as the other just add the letter D
The IR-X is not at all the same as the IR-D. They both are tube-driven but are not at all the same topography.
The IR-X is more of a 70s-80s Marshall sound. The IR-D is more of a 60s-70s Marshall sound. The IR-X is higher gain and tighter, with more upper midrange bite. The IR-D is lower gain, looser, and fatter.
