Jade Warrior!!! Glad you found that album and most importantly liked the album. Enjoy the Denver preseason game! Wow, only one week left of pool cleaning! You can really dive into some books and albums then!
Michael, I appreciate you bringing them to my attention. I have heard of them, you have shown them to me and thanks to a swirl label, brought to my attention by you, I really enjoyed how hard rocking it was
Morning Steve. Checking you out before I drive to Asheville for a record show. I have jade warriors collection awesome there all great. Steve is a prog master.
John, I was so surprised about Jade Warrior. I have been told after this album they got more ambient and toned down. They have said their first album is quite good. Colorado is a place packed with amazing scenery. It’s a whole different world here
It really was Jeff, something different, not typical classical music. It was interesting to hear something from a Brazilian composer. Have not seen a video from you in awhile.
Thanks for the shout-out! I have an older recording of those same Villa Lobos works, also on Angel, conducted by the composer. The cover is that familiar photo of Villa Lobos with a huge cigar stuck in his face, but he doesn't look like he's enjoying it much. Nice score with the Jade Warrior. I still need to get that one, though it's not one of my favorites. After that one, they moved to Island Records and the music changed drastically, becoming all instrumental--something like Mike Oldfield but with heavy world music elements. Amazing scenery at the beginning.
Colorado is pretty amazing Too bad it’s so expensive but I shouldn’t complain, I could be living in CA! You guys got it rough. Whenever I am butchering some name I think how would Michael say that lol. Definitely not like me. Good info on Jade Warrior. People keep recommending their first three albums. I need to take prog in baby steps though lol
Morning Steve, glad you liked CROWS, a very eloquent appraisal of their album and exactly why I watch videos and you make them., my recommendation was "listen to Crows.....they're good" wouldn't make a great video. Cheers BUG (Carl) Lions looking good this season

The scenery and footage were gorgeous. I'm jealous! The train ride must have been incredible. Enjoy your free time. Cool Stimela drop. I'm not a fan of progressive rock music, but the Crows sounded great. Have a fantastic week!
Mark, I knew you would appreciate the train. I am amazed how many music lovers also love trains! This is part of my for-way into doing a travelogue! lol. I’m not a prog fan either but I really did like that album, I was quite surprised by that Mark. It took me awhile to even play that album haha

Always there to give you a wide variety of Sunday Music. You two are like me and up waaaaaay too early. When I was growing up my dad would play classical music every Sunday after church. That is the only time I remember him playing music, his after giving a sermon wind down lol
I have Jade Warrior first three trilogy albums. Steve Winwood appears on their Waves album. Brian Eno was a huge fan of Jade Warrior and is quoted saying their album Floating World was an “Important Album” I find their music very world and ambient at times. Progressive most definitely. Far from what I was expecting from Brazil, beautiful nonetheless. Thanks for sharing. Welcome to the wonderful world of Jade Warrior. Have a great week.
Steve, generally I think of prog as being somewhat pretentious so it took awhile for me to spin this, I just wanted a Swirl! I was so surprised at what I heard, talk about some hard rocking music. Wow. Classical from Brazil, how cool is that Steve!
Ah Yes, a new shoegaze album! You seem to have great luck finding cool shoegaze bands and Cruush sounds like they did not disappoint. I like the Crows sample, I will stream that one. Nice Jade Warrior on the Vertigo Swirl, I've heard one of their later Island albums, Kites I think was the title, but never heard their earlier stuff. Nice scenic view of the mountains and the train at the beginning, when you grow tired of showing records, you could start doing travelogues! Have an awesome week Steve, and take care.
Michael, everyone keeps saying Jade Warriors first 3 albums are very good. After that they went more instrumental This album was quite good, I was very surprised. Crows really packed a punch. Another great store tee, Steve. T&S is a must each time I’m in Denver. That VMP offering might be up might alley. I do wonder if VMP will survive the year though.

Hey Steve! Great opening, as always! So that 2nd clip from Cruush sold me - I'm officially on the hunt now. That's some shredding on Jade Warrior, Metal Steve takes a detour into prog. Have heard them mentioned over the years but not checked them out yet. Cruush is new to me, like their sound though, would go down well on a rainy fall day. I like the first Stimela sample, very 80's r&b funk. Beautiful train journey, we have to do something like that with the kids one day. Have a good week Steve
Metal Steve into Prog Steve? What is next, Polka Steve Glad you enjoyed Cruush, I liked that the vocals were not buried in the mix. Stimela was interesting, obviously really big in South Africa Always looking for something a little different Doug. Colorado is quite the place of contrasts when it comes to scenery Doug
Crows sounded good. Music with balls. I’ve been worried recently that you had been neutered. Stemela was a surprise. I really dig that funky sound. I still don’t have a vertical swirl.
lol, don’t give up on me yet Richie! Crows did have Balls! I preordered the next album by them, cool stuff. Stimela was a surprise to me also. I just read it had a lot of funk. Definitely an 80s feel. Thanks as always for watching Richie
Thanks for sharing the video Mr. Carlson. I always dig you that have a great appreciation for trains that rivals my own. Loved seeing your opening and also appreciate another unique selection of albums this week. I think Crows might have hit my interest the highest. I ‘d like to share an album I have really been enjoying the past couple days. They are the Irish band Fontaines D.C……This latest album is one of their best yet. Or maybe it’s just my Irish heritage that makes me root for them even more so than most. Take care my friend and have yourself a wonderful week……..P.S. Go Pittsburgh Steelers!
Ever since I was very young g I have loved trains. I would love a model railroad set, use to have a very nice one, but wow has that become an expensive hobby. Aurora is also supposed to be to have some special train area Bruce. I have heard Jade Warrior 1 and 2 are quite good. I will have to keep a look out for him.
"Let 'er highball, engineer!" What's happenin', SC? When you told me about your youth spent riding the rails, it made me think of the Great Depression. I know you're older, but you're not that old. I wonder if you've heard "U.S. Highball" by Harry Partch. Harry spent nine years riding the rails as a hobo during the Great Depression. Then in 1941 when he rode the rails, he took a notebook that he used to write down what he encountered, including what the hobos said. The only alterations he made were to "profanity as repetitive as the sound of wheels on the track." The notebook became the basis for "U.S. Highball." In order to get the sounds he wanted for his compositions, he built the instruments himself. I think "U.S. Highball" is, in its own oddball way, up there with Rhapsody in Blue. Partch called it "the most creative piece of work I have ever done." It was recorded in Wisconsin and released on GME records in 1946. GME records was a label run by Dr. Warren Gilson, the man whose home "U.S. Highball" was recorded in. It came out as three red vinyl 78s. According to Discogs: "Pressed in an edition of only 100 copies and sold by word of mouth with no advertising. Even at the modest original price of $6.75 per set, it took a few years for the pressing of 100 copies to sell out." None have ever been sold on Discogs, though seven people say they have it. Who knows? I suppose the nature trail near where I live is like my "U.S. Highball." Part of it was once an old railroad. Like you, I do distance running. Nothing on the order of the Leadville 100 though. And it costs $425 and $475 just to enter that race. You pay $$$ to be tortured. Last year I ran a marathon every month for a year. I call them Romanathons. I'm not fast. Running is a way, like record collecting, to channel my addictive/obsessive nature. "I spoke / To a man down at the tracks / And I ask him / How he don't go mad" I have met many oddballs on the trail. One guy told me, "The way they make black people here is by dipping white people in chocolate." He then added, "That's f!;*ed up." It made me think of "Chocolate City" by Parliament. Imagine if you had dark skin and were sitting next to this guy on a train. He leans over and licks your arm. "Just wanna check." Good grief. Hopefully, it doesn't cause you too much grief to read my missives. Till next time, stay groovy. "You exclamation mark bum! Get your semicolon asterisk out o' these yards"
Roman I love your thoughts. As I said they should be made into a book What an interesting story about the hobo. I wish he had written a book about those adventures, that would have been fantastic. $475 to torture your body, OMG. I never ran a marathon. I was in very good shape but never felt good enough shape to run a decent time. I wasn’t winning races but often I could get a medal I just never had the dedication to properly train to run a marathon. My hats off to you, incredible running one a month, I am always amazed at people like you who can do that. I’m not going to go lick an African American, wouldn’t that make an interesting reaction lol.
@@stevecarlsonvinylcommunity9147 One thing running has taught me is that all exercise is an exercise in humility. We are all at different levels. I doubt I could medal in a race unless I paid someone off. Would $475 cover it?

Chester, I did it many years ago also but now, I just physically couldn’t due it which is extremely disappointing as I have more time to do it.
Stimela - I can't believe they only made 200 of that repress. Jade Warrior - nice.
Kris they made 200 of the Stimela and it still had not sold out. Guess the world is missing out except for me
I don't know how you manage to cram all that stuff into your life. I went to the Banksy exhibit and that's me done for a couple of months. I think that's why I became a writer. That way I can just write about all kinds of fun and wonderful stuff but never have to leave my basement.
lol Darrell. My whole life I have been a traveler. It’s not about seeing 7 wonders it’s just about exploring new areas and seeing what they have to offer. I love travel writing especially those that have some sarcasm and wit spliced into the writing. Bill Bryson is a favorite. New place, new things to explore
Hello
Shall definitely try Stimela.Just seen the long film 3,5 hours about Paul Simon in cinema, "In restless dreams" Great film if you like the artist......
Hasse, I’m not sure I could handle a 3.5 hour movie, wow. You must be a real fan my friend. Stimela was a fun album something different for you
that train looks awesome! have you been to big 10 curve in ARVADA? i like Crows, i hear some fall in there as well. i have jade warriors 1st 2 lps both very good. i have not heard autumns dream. i like to do a gummy and stare at the spinning swirl and get pulled into the prog ultraverse. cheers!
Gummy’s and then a vertical swirl lol. I have some gummy’s but there just basic candy, nothing exciting. Big 10 Curve, I have to look that up and see what that is about. Aurora is also supposed to be to have some special train area Bruce. I have heard Jade Warrior 1 and 2 are quite good. I will have to keep a look out for him.
"Let 'er highball, engineer!"
What's happenin', SC?
When you told me about your youth spent riding the rails, it made me think of the Great Depression. I know you're older, but you're not that old. I wonder if you've heard "U.S. Highball" by Harry Partch. Harry spent nine years riding the rails as a hobo during the Great Depression.
Then in 1941 when he rode the rails, he took a notebook that he used to write down what he encountered, including what the hobos said. The only alterations he made were to "profanity as repetitive as the sound of wheels on the track."
The notebook became the basis for "U.S. Highball." In order to get the sounds he wanted for his compositions, he built the instruments himself. I think "U.S. Highball" is, in its own oddball way, up there with Rhapsody in Blue. Partch called it "the most creative piece of work I have ever done."
It was recorded in Wisconsin and released on GME records in 1946.
"I spoke / To a man down at the tracks / And I ask him / How he don't go mad"
I have met many oddballs on the trail.
Steve Carlson sporting the alphabet shirt. ABC 123.
At my age I need to keep being reminded of the simple things
Cruush didn't really grab me. I quite liked the guitar but less so the voice. Crows sounds great. Not heard of them. Stimela a bit 80s sounding for me. Prog! You are going over to the dark side!!
When I was trying to find the Crows I found a lot of copies in the UK but in the US it was hard to find. You love post punk so it would be perfect for you. Andy, it tolls me awhile to play Jade Warrior, it sat around for awhile, I just wanted the swirl label. Finally I manned up and gave it a spin and lo and behold, I really enjoyed it! Metal Steve has become Prog Steve! But you just said you liked Yes lead singer, talk about prog haha
Ah, but I'm an old prog head Steve. That's my excuse! I did find the Crows album available, but I've spent too much this month. I'll keep it on my list and keep an eye open for the next release that you mentioned
