  • You should buy the HD traffic Receiver not because of it's inormation accuracy, but for it's fast information refresh rate. The HD models will update live traffic information in seconds where the standard version may take minutes.

    I think personally the GTM60 is better because it combined RDS-TMC and HD Traffic one cable. The HD Cable in supported areas gets Weather Info as well, there might be Predictive Traffic (like in Toyota head units with HD Radio), and also the same faster updates. Only problem is HD is a fragile signal so traffic info may be lost easier with the device downgrading to RDS. I feel like GTM 60 should be used with Garmin Drive/Smartphone Link, but that's just my opinion. I'm probably gonna buy a GTM60 from your eBay store because of these factors.

      I totally agree with you, I have tested all of them on various trips across the country, and the GTM60 has proved to be the best in my opinion.

    Nice video! Since nuvi 2555LM + GTM 60 HD can get HD traffic, can DriveSmart 50LMTHD + TA10 get HD traffic too?

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  3 года назад +1

      Thanks, actually you need to have TA20 for that. Although TA10 will work but the traffic data will have major lag and delay.

    Question regarding the GTM60 cable. Can you cut the cable just behind the 12V cig plug and tap the wires into the car/trucks cig plug? Thanks!

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  3 года назад

      Yes you can do that, but you have to use the inverter board which is inside the cigarette lighter plug of the GTM60 cable.
      You can't feed the 12V power directly to your GPS it will fry the GPS.
      The more simple way is to use these plugs www.ebay.com/itm/321817346492

    Can a Drivesmart 51 LMTHD uses the GTM25 cable to get HD traffic? My 2598LMTHD can receive HD traffic using TA20.

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi, unfortunately it will not work, you must use either the TA20 to take advantage of the internal traffic receiver or GTM60 for external traffic receiver.

      @ProfessorBalance 11 месяцев назад +1

      @@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 Oh my, I received a reply from techtips101! The problem is I connected a TA20 to the 51LMTHD, it says not compatible and no traffic. Does the 51LMTHD have no integrated traffic receiver? If that's the case, why is it called LMTHD?

    • @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101
      @TECHNOLOGYTIPS101  11 месяцев назад

      @@ProfessorBalance Yes the 51LMTHD has HD traffic receiver inside, so if it is not detecting your TA20 there could be two issues, either the cable is bad, or the USB Port on the GPS has a loose connection that need to be resoldered. The TA20 is compatible based Garmin's own website For Garmin DriveSmart, DriveAssit, and DriveLuxe. Here is the link www.garmin.com/en-US/p/112879/pn/010-11838-00#devices

      I just soldered the usb port like I did my old 2555LMT, that microphone is a bit weird but followed your video. The problemis still no go in traffic though can connect to computer aand update. The TA20 cable used gives traffic immediately to the 50LMTHD and 2598LMTHD. So not the cable either, wonder what's going on.

    I disagree with the description which states: "You should buy the HD traffic Receiver not because of its information accuracy, but for its fast information refresh rate. The HD models will update live traffic information in seconds where the standard version may take minutes."
    I think that's technically true but there's a bit more involved.
    If you normally drive in a big city where HD Traffic is supported then, yes, the GTM60 is your best bet.
    If, however, you drive in more rural areas where HD Radio (which is where the HD Traffic is coming from) are fewer an farther between then the GTM36 makes more sense (FM Traffic). The reason is that the FM signal covers more area and you'll get traffic information further out from the city center vs using the HD Traffic which, at some point, will just cut out.
    One other consideration is timing. I think Garmin's site says that the FM Traffic, which is slower on receiving data, refreshes about every 5min whereas the HD Traffic receiver refreshes every 1-3 mins. The thing is that while it's great you're getting the update slightly faster, it probably won't make a whole lot of difference in your driving. If there's a wreck ahead on the route your on either you're close enough to where it's slowing you down and the 2-4 min difference isn't going to matter or you're far enough out to where the extra 2-4 min difference in notification isn't going to matter to route around it.
    The best way to update is using the Garmin App (Drive) which gives you a lot more detail for the surrounding area (more secondary streets are included) but then your phone has to be in the middle of it all.
    I appreciate that the time was taken to make the video to show the differences and the video itself. Thanks for that.

      I agree with you 100% I couldn't have said it better myself. The smartphone app is the best but again it uses your data and keeps your phone battery draining. The most accurate and real-time road condition update is Wase, but it only relies on other users to report the conditions. So if there are no Wase users in the area you don't get any updates.

      @@TECHNOLOGYTIPS101 To me what would be perfect would be for Garmin to implement the Drive app functions via WiFi (for the WiFi models which are most of them now) to get the phone out from being the middleman.
      I have a hotspot in my car, they're not all that uncommon, and are quite useful for like-devices.
      For those who don't have WiFi, fall back on the phone, and finally, fall back on the various cables (GTM60 and GTM36).
      My phone being the "middleman" was OK 6+ years back. It's time to move past that as I'm not a fan of having yet another app (that needs to be up - and they don't always auto-start and sometimes fail in the background) on my phone for "some device" in my car.
      I've mentioned this to Garmin several times with a positive response but that could just be them being nice (which they typically are on the phone).

      @@BradleyBishop I know, I also called Garmin for several different suggestions. Although they agreed on the phone but simply ignored my feedback after they hung up the phone.
