I saw a Hendrix interview in which Jimi said that Jose was the greatest guitar player in the world, and that he owed Jose a lot for helping him develop as a player. So...
Jose went to my High school in Manhattan. He graduated before me but my music teacher talked about him a lot. Damn! I didn't know he got down like this..... WHOA!!!
Awesome❣️ I once saw some footage on yt from what looked to have been a big, outdoor stadium concert at night with very low stage lights- only coming from behind the players so that you could hardly see them- and it was filmed from a distance, too. In it, JF was playing a bit faster and more in the original fuzzed, strat-y, psychedelic-style with a hard-rocking backing band. It was very cool to see this version, as well, thanks, I really ❤️ this channel‼️
It’s a Brydland for sure. I actually like this rendition. He actually let song breathe. Most bands chug right through it. Probably one of the most overplayed songs. Kinda like Steppenwolf‘s Born to be wild.
Brydlands are a rare bird. They cost a pretty penny these days if you can find one. The sixties models are more desirable and easily fetch 10k or more.
People have argued for 50 years over what “Purple Haze” is about. Some think it referred to an illegal substance - at least at the time - but Jimmy said it was about a dream of being underwater, while winking. But obviously the song is about Mondays, the day after a Super Bowl, for Vikings fans after their team lost - again.
@@CarlDraper He said that in an interview? Right in the song, he makes mention of her putting a "spell" on him. Money attracts sorcery and their ilk have caught quite a few. ~& i doubt the official story of his demise.
Enjoyed this tremendously on last weekend's full episode! Just great! Why no solo Eric Carmen on the channel yet though? I know he was a guest multiple times. I'd love to see his performance of "She Did It" from 1977.
Dang, who knew Feliciano could rock out like that on lead guitar?!😮 This is another great video, "lost performance" of this classic show. However, I so wish that someone connected with the channel could use AI or something to create STEREO versions of these old videos! 🔊🔊
Can we take a minute to acknowledge the dual drummers . I have poor eyes and can't see anybody's face except Jose.. Wait is that a broken E string at the end .. Jose ripping strings off of his guitar.. Well thats a first.
It sounds so weird hearing anyone, outside of Jimmy, play “Purple Haze.” Jimmy was pretty unique and he had kind of a relaxed style I think, that added up to how he sounded playing the guitar. Jimmy isn’t one of my favorite guitarists really but I’ll even admit he was great at what he did. But I was more into metal and I liked Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, and even classical and Flamenco players like Andres Segovia and Paco de Lucia.
and just who do you think influenced van halen and randy rhodes ? hint it was'nt eric clapton , frank marino another blazing guitarist called out vanhalen for saying that bs years ago .
Forgive me......but Jose did not read the lyrics correctly! He put his own unique spin (re-write) on this interpretation and demonstrated another side of his musical abilities.
I just like the reaction of the people in the audience....... having grown up my entire life with the Jimmy Hendrix version of this song, with Stevie Ray Vaughn, and just about every band imaginable- here we have Jose, the man who did cool laid back latin versions of other people's songs singing Purple Haze........and not killing it, lol. Just a strange version oft he song- love most of his other work, but this one is kind of a turd, haha.

Hey my friend ! awesome to see you - this is a great version
@RickDanner Hello Rick, It's always nice to hear from you. I agree, nice version. Have a peaceful evening. 💖
That was worth a second watch. Of course, he's no Hendrix, but Jose put his own style into it. I like it! 😎💜
And he was born blind, making this that more impressive of a feat
Banging version!
Further evidence that Jimi impacted a lot of different musicians.

A virtuoso that always surprises me!!
