I know the formula it's a russian lake and sand, purified silicon, and sapphire. The ratio however, is not of my knowledge. Trust me, I'm from the internet
But if they made the glass unbreakable, they couldn't charge inflated prices to replace your broken screen. That would be stupid on their part. I remember business class where we learned they used to make light bulbs burn out after so many hours and designed things to fail after so much usage. Gotta keep up those profits...
It's being dropped on a tile of hard flooring. The test biggest problem is the angle of the drop and not the floor because most phones are dropped on its edge.
pretty sure they do real life drop test, the mechanized drop is just for testing consistency and to ensure the right angle of impact, supposing that a 167-year-old company applies wrong testing method is rather arrogant ;D
Wingwangization retina display is nothing but dual pixel technology were those every single pixel is divided into two.. which means better and sharp image, text with an eye popping colours..
Many companies like asus still use gorilla glass 3 on their flagships as it says gg3 is more tougher than 4 and 5 and you say you make it better with each generation? I guess you're making'em weaker so you get more profits in repair and new phones that people buy 🤨
Vlican I also have s8 and mine is not scratched. Watch some Jerryrigeverything videos - almost every phone have same scratch resistance, and it can't be scratched with metal knife.
better is to ditch the idea of glass sandwich design and rather a plastic display with a gorilla glass screen protection. In my country still the highest number of phone repair is because of glass broken in just one accidental drop. Take me into the lab 'corning' before claiming it 'unbreakable'.
exactly the money u r putting into make glass better half gives to make a plastic scratch proof shutter proof also premium for ambient display and beside this gorilla glass on top is there to protect u. We all forgetting glass is glass accidrntal drop means it will break. Actually in the process of making a unbreakable glass company's are making phone life time shorter. We all know how older phone metal phones survived in difficult conditions
No it will not. Plastic can absorb the drop pressure much more then glass can, beside we already said plastic is not just simple plastic it must be reinvented for phone display
The glass would most likely need to be made out of diamond to be scratch proof or at least real sapphire maybe which is better at scratch resistance then gorilla glass
Sameer Shah well it depends on how well you take care of it, I had an s7 edge with a Dbrand skin and the back never got any scratches but the sides and the screen were pretty scratched up. But I was just talking about the materials the phone would have to be for it to be scratch resistant without any protection or babying the phone
No phone maker has interest in an unbrakeable screen. It should be touch, but also should brake at a drop from reasonable hight. They want to sell new devices...
I just dropped my smartphone when recording my cricket team match, the ball almost hit my hand and it survived well no scratches on screen it's amazing👍
"If phones were still made how they were they would be virtually indestructible" I need this I just need a phone that is virtually indestructible and is built to last not a fashion statement.
Basically: “Here at Corning we make break-proof glass for cell phones, but since your phone manufacturer wants it as thin as possible it’s still technically useless and easily breakable”
iPhone 20 be like: “The screen is made from melted down crystals that fell from the universe, it is harder than any glass available on our planet” **Drops iPhone with screen made of space crystals, screen shatters**
Yup but I'm sure I'm gonna be the one with bad luck, my phone is gonna hit the floor just in the way where the screen will crack instantly leaving my phone useless .. 🤣
"Our mission is to make each generation of gorilla glass better than the prior generation" lol. Thanks for sharing that unique goal.
Metacognition88 ensuring its just slightly better to leave the room for upcoming generations to make money for longer periods 🤣
😂
#savage 😂
"Well it would be bad if you don't."
one of a kind
*Jerryrigeverything: Glass is glass, and glass breaks*
Bhavik Singh "Nothing last forever"
we can change the future
Bhavik Singh Nobody said it was unbreakable it's just a bit stronger
Daniel Kalumbwe yea but in real world drops they don't do nearly as well as companies claim
Time to win is the handsome
So.... basically EVERY time Corning make a tougher glass, phone manufacturers want it thinner.
That means every year it'll remain the same, BROKEN!
*E X A C T L Y*
Stronger *2
Thinner /2
Result : same every fking time
Otherwise you wouldn't be buying a new phone every 1 or 2 years!!!
They slow down the software after 2 years in case glass doesn't break.
C O well said
Never really showed how it's made. I didn't expect them to show the recipe but at least show the manufacturing process.
GManGT there secret formula is heavily guarded
I know the formula it's a russian lake and sand, purified silicon, and sapphire. The ratio however, is not of my knowledge. Trust me, I'm from the internet
AppleToaster “trust me I’m from the internet” lol
Clickbait?
Christian Johansson wtf hahahaha
Marketing technology is so advanced now a days.
Jip and its great, much better than 10 or more years back
Lolol yep that's most of what is going on here.. a slight of hand more than actual functional engineering
Give me that slightly thicker "unbreakable phone" they mention we could have if phones weren't so thin. Wouldn't require a case and thus look better
But if they made the glass unbreakable, they couldn't charge inflated prices to replace your broken screen. That would be stupid on their part. I remember business class where we learned they used to make light bulbs burn out after so many hours and designed things to fail after so much usage. Gotta keep up those profits...
john j that's so Apple
Maybe that the little, extra thickness makes it more bad to touch..
Go for #TURING PHONE
If they did that, they wouldn't be able to sell you their new phone every one or two years...
in videos: *Unbreakable*
real life: *screen breaks after falling 1cm above a tissue*
agree
That why they say
"up to xx meters" 😑
Just put flex tape on phones
Rakshith Prakash I'd rather use flex tape clear
Rakshith Prakash *I SAWED THIS BOAT IN HALF*
BROKEN SCREEN? NO PROBLEM! *Slaps tape in the screen*
That's a lotta damage!
Rakshith Prakash 😂😂🤣
Watching this video on my broken phone screen 😂😂😂
ME TOO DUDE LOL
Me too bro
Do A real life drop test on hard stone surfaces Rather then soft laboratory tests.
@Don Those who suppose are experiencing the Dunning-Kruger effect.
you live on a cave?
EH CBunny the biggest issue is when you drop it face down on a tiny pebble... Edge is fine
Didn't see any Gorillas used in the manufacturing process.
0/10
Start making phones thicker with bigger batteries! 4000mah minimum!
ha! i have a 300$ phone with a 5000mah battery
Guna Dzaky asus?
yes max pro m1
Agree lol a mm or 2 won't be a issue
Guna Dzaky e5 plus?
"How Corning's New Gorilla Glass 6 Is Made"??? In the end I did not see HOW it is made! :( Just another promo clip :/
It's called 'click bait'. The title is designed to get you to click on it.
john j, you're totally right. Just didn't expect that from Corning :(
Not from Corning, but from CNBC
Gorilla glass scratches at level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7!!!!
So the iPhone uses the same glass but apple had to give them a fancy name like ion strengthened glass to make them stand above the others.
They did the same thing by calling their displays "retina displays". Any device that has a pixel density above 300 ppi could be a retina display.
Marketing at its finest.
So that dumb apple fanbois think the rotten trash is actually good:
HD - Retina
Force Touch - 3D Touch
Double Flashlight - dual tone
I'll give apple credit for one thing- they're good at making up cool names for things.
Wingwangization retina display is nothing but dual pixel technology were those every single pixel is divided into two.. which means better and sharp image, text with an eye popping colours..
And because you used a clickbait title, and didn't produce what the title advertised, you have earned my thumbs down.
No one cares.....
I cant wait for Nokia 3310 glass to come out
It's plastic lol
1:58 Wow! Didn't know pawn stars worked at corning.
sushant gambhir Lol
You made me laugh lols
Pawnstars are the secret of Gorilla energy 😂
*Im rIck hARisSon aNd ThiS iS mY PaWN ShOp*
I see where Rick has been hiding out
But can it survive gun shots? If that's so we need more of this product in devices for our kids in elementary schools
This comment is a indictment on American society.
Glass 7 is promised to shoot back
Since bulletproof vests are expensive and irrelevant for them... this would help them.. maybe
Yeah you guys have way to many school shootings.
Conan O'Brien or we could get rid of guns?
CNBC, you are a news channel not an ads channel.
🤣🤣 Right Right this is why so many iPhone screens are broken
Anything:"Virtually unbreakable"
Me:"hold my beer"
Companies always say the new product is 2x stronger or faster
Da Real Starbet exactly it's all bs
Hhhh yes right. Next time i will make my comment 2x longer
Corning: "people are dropping their phones roughly 7 times a year."
Manufacturers: "Let's keep making glass backed phones."
We all use cases let's get some harder glass like glass that doesn't scratch maybe
Love that "up to this many drops".
They should done drop test on tar road.
Way brutal lol it may break
yeah my s7 edge scattered screen on tar road
Me too my note8 at a very low height
Corning: "Virtually unbreakable"
Flex Tape: "Hold my beer..."
Thumbs down for Google News sending me here.
I cannot imagine a world without glass.
Who tf only drops their phone 7 times a year? 😅😅😅
Me, even less...
I dropped my Phone only once this Year.
Me 4
I haven't dropped my phone in two years am i weird?
We exist
cnbc smashed it with this video.
Many companies like asus still use gorilla glass 3 on their flagships as it says gg3 is more tougher than 4 and 5 and you say you make it better with each generation? I guess you're making'em weaker so you get more profits in repair and new phones that people buy 🤨
Bro asus is lying lol. They are trying to keep cost down
GG3 is more scratch resistant than 4 & 5. But 4 & 5 are shatter resistant.
exactly this, scratch resistances and shatter resistance are different. my galaxy s8 uses version 5, but can be scratched with a butter knife...
Vlican I also have s8 and mine is not scratched.
Watch some Jerryrigeverything videos - almost every phone have same scratch resistance, and it can't be scratched with metal knife.
Shubhansh Bothra you are right gorilla glass 3 is strong than 4, 5, 6
Can I just what skin to have
Stranger: what's your job?
You: Oh I test drop phones
better is to ditch the idea of glass sandwich design and rather a plastic display with a gorilla glass screen protection. In my country still the highest number of phone repair is because of glass broken in just one accidental drop. Take me into the lab 'corning' before claiming it 'unbreakable'.
Amit Dey plastic gets scratches easily that is a problem!
fatehyabali my point is to make plastic harder to get scratched.
Digei Frunza couldn’t the glass fragments also scratch the plastic if it breaks?
exactly the money u r putting into make glass better half gives to make a plastic scratch proof shutter proof also premium for ambient display and beside this gorilla glass on top is there to protect u. We all forgetting glass is glass accidrntal drop means it will break. Actually in the process of making a unbreakable glass company's are making phone life time shorter. No it will not. Plastic can absorb the drop pressure much more then glass can, beside we already said plastic is not just simple plastic it must be reinvented for phone display
Scratches at level 6 with deeper grooves on level 7
Harambi approves!
Lmao... Oh how many phones with 'gorilla glass' I have broken 😂😂😂
Chuck Norris fart sound can break this glass...
I am The truth its 2018 please let the chuch norris jokes die... the man does christian ads on tv..... he's not badass
You just teleported me back to 2010
1:57 “my name is rick Harrison and this is my pawn shop”
but what about scratches?
Sameer Shah Same level of scratch resistance as gorilla glass 5
Still the same though... If you increase its hardness that mean it will more brittle and easy to break
The glass would most likely need to be made out of diamond to be scratch proof or at least real sapphire maybe which is better at scratch resistance then gorilla glass
Chuy hey man I have a nexus 5 2013 which has gg3 and Samsung galaxy s7 2017 gg4 still my older Nexus 5 has less scratches then my s7
2:16 "the eyes sees what they want"😂
No phone maker has interest in an unbrakeable screen. It should be touch, but also should brake at a drop from reasonable hight. They want to sell new devices...
*gently tosses phone on soft bed*
Phone screen: breaks
but phone companies want their screen glasses easy to break.🙃🙃🙃
1:57 rick from the gold and silver pawn stars!!😂😂
I'd rather have a T H I C C phone then some fragile thin phone...
Lol
Than*
Did a survey people drop their phones 7 times a year
Repeatedly dropping my phone: Guess your wrong🙃
How about kingkong glass?
get a popsocket and you'll never drop your phone again
What did the librarian say to the kid?
Lee Zy fool me once Shame on me
You got me
Best fetures of gorilla glass is that by dropping your phone your screen will not get a single scratch. It will be broken into pieces instead,😂😂
Who is that cute mamasita at the end of the video?
Creep
yo Alex nah she fineee
Thanks. I've learned something today
Nokia Better
High end flip phones 😂😂 sorry
The glass can survive but what about the phone it self ? 😂
Lousy glass.. Always break and expensive to replace
I prefer plastic. I don't mind scratches
They hit the jackpot when Steve jobs accepted their product for the iPhone
Thank you for the information
Lol funny cause they say they test the glass, but still when you drop your phone it still breaks lol. So kinda of funny lol
Harambe Protected our phone . RIP Harambe .
Lol "7 times a year"
Me 7 times a minute
very cool video corning is a great company making great products
I just dropped my smartphone when recording my cricket team match, the ball almost hit my hand and it survived well no scratches on screen it's amazing👍
I thought it was made from gorilla's teeth or nails 🤣
Ok time to check what gorilla glass my Phone is made of.
I have a solution. Instead of Gorilla use Clear Plastic Sheet. Lmao
I hope TV manufacturers also use this glass for their screen...
"If phones were still made how they were they would be virtually indestructible" I need this I just need a phone that is virtually indestructible and is built to last not a fashion statement.
Hey Corning, you can investigate how my gorilla glass broke when it dropped about 50cms onto a wooden floor.
Technology at its best 👌
It's not gonna make any difference the phones gonna crack a day later 😂😂
No glass were harmed in making this video.
I drop my phone more than 7 times a year🤣🤣🤣
Basically: “Here at Corning we make break-proof glass for cell phones, but since your phone manufacturer wants it as thin as possible it’s still technically useless and easily breakable”
High five if you are watching this on your broken Gorilla glass screen.
Smash a gorilla glass on a old Nokia 3310 glass... We all know who we will win
"our goal is to make the next generation better than the previous" wow really?! genius!
Nokia 3310
Unbreakable since 2002 😂
"You and I we're made of glass, we'd never last"
G-EAZY, 2017
even strongest gorrila glass that they make will cover by consumer with screen protector 😂
Hope they will bring this tech to reading and prescription glasses... been longing for scratchproof and tough eyeglass that doesn't cost that much.
iPhone 20 be like: “The screen is made from melted down crystals that fell from the universe, it is harder than any glass available on our planet” **Drops iPhone with screen made of space crystals, screen shatters**
I wish I dropped my phone on a flat surface everytime like on thier lab lol
JerryRigEverything will sure test this immediately
One if the main reasons why I invest in this company.
Wow, good job!
That phone will be what the next gen iPhone looks like
“Stretches at a level 6 and deeper groves at a level 7.” -Jerryrigeverything
Gorrilla glass vs old nokia phone 😂😂
Lol. I live in Corning. I've walked drunk over that bridge out his window.
"Glass is glass, glass is fragile" JerryRig
Yup but I'm sure I'm gonna be the one with bad luck, my phone is gonna hit the floor just in the way where the screen will crack instantly leaving my phone useless .. 🤣
Id choose thick, dense and heavy any time over thin and light. It's an indication of the quality and sturdiness of a product
Watching this on a cracked phone lmao
Please test it with MI phones........😂😂😂
how about throwing a phone repeatedly on concrete, marble tiles, bricks, rocks. that's where real-world phone drops happen.
So... Why If this phone fall off from 10 cm they get destroyed? It makes no sense😂
Show us gorilla glass 55, i think its immortal
If I could be paid for dropping phones I would do it right now.
