When I see you have a hard time, Doug, then I don't feel as bad as a newbie when I struggle, like this week. But I tried to get ahead of it this time, if I could, before I got tripped up. I started with 'Ratio' - nothing, but I was prepared. Then went with 'Clues'. Gave me the C & E. I figure at this point, there were 2 E's, and every time I thought of a 3rd word, it had one of the letters already discounted. Thought of emcee, but I didn't dare take a risk like that unless I knew there was an M, because I've been burned before doing that. Then 'Fence' came to me, which obviously lead me to 'Hence'. So, did a par 4 today. I like your 'Smart' word for tomorrow, Doug! Let's go!!
RATIO, MUNCH, HENCE getting the N and C and then the H in the wrong place virtually gave the game away 😊
Super amusing episode! Lucky Doug was not playing in hard mode. Neither was I but I paid the price for doggedly trying to test every vowel and then overlooked hence initially for fence. POINT, RANGE, DUNCE, FENCE, HENCE. Not quite as agonising five for me as for Doug!
At one point you mentioned plurals, it cant be the answer but I think its super useful as eval words sometimes.
Good solve, Doug! I've had the same kind of week, so I get it. I did do a little better today than the last few days, and I managed to pull this one out in four instead of five. (While I didn't get the good night's sleep I had hoped for last night, I did get a decent nap with no interruptions this afternoon, and I'm sure that helped!)

I'm pretty happy to save par today after my starting combo of STARE and DOILY gave me only one letter. This led me to use my go-to third word in that situation, BUNCH. Talk about a silver platter. The obvious HENCE came next. From start to finish, this one probably took less than two minutes.

Two guesses down and no colour showing isn't what I like
to see when playing Wordle.
First goof of the day - using 'T' again in guess 2,
after it had been eliminated.
With the only vowel still to play being 'E' I figured it was most
likely used at least twice.
CHEEK lit up 4 yellow boxes. Now I'm getting somewhere.
A second goof by re-using 'E' in position 3 for guess 4. Too hasty.
LEECH could not be the answer but it left HENCE as the only
choice for guess 5.

Suede was my second guess and it put me on the right track.
I totally understand your today. I fully thought you might get it in four today, because I struggled, and fell into a trap, with just a small spoon to dig my way out. So, when you don't always see a word, then I don't feel so bad that it happens to me, sometimes. I am glad you got out with a five as well. That does make me happy, as did my second guess, as it seemed easy then. :)

Clocking in at almost 13 minutes, I knew Doug was in a bit of a pickle. Whereas I didn't even see a yellow tile...HENCE, an easy solve.

Seven, WordleBot said it was a lucky starting word leaving 8 words to choose from, Needy, Genie, I thought of Hence but went with Fence, Hence.
Lesson: we let our brains get locked in too long
Doug, I also found this one to be tedious. Audio, steer, belle, fence, hence. I was able to identify the double e in short order, but then had a hard time deciding what to do with it.
Steak, fried, plume. I play in hard mode every day. After 3 guesses I had the e in position. Looking at the unused letters I went with bocce. Now with only the ce at the end the only word that would fit was hence. Took a while to find it.
It was a difficult one for me today. My starting words helped somewhat (yellow N and green C and E on fifth position). I went for FENCE on the fifth try, which led me to HENCE. Another close save.

I thought ratio would give us something, but got nothing. From there I tried suede, Leche, and got it: hence
I've never heard of Leche so wouldn't have used it.
Someone else mentions using Leche as a guess today.
Google says it's Spanish for Milk.
My knowledge of Spanish is sadly lacking.

That was painful to watch today, Douglas! Just about considered unsubscribing, could could never do that! Scoredle had 2 words for you after Chive. I got it in 5 in about 3 minutes his morning, Ratio, Lucky, Scene, Fence and tossed up between P and H to finish it, choosing the H.
Got Connections in about 2 minutes also, I'm about to watch that now, hope that's it a sprint too and not a marathon.
