🔴WARNING: We do a LOT of speculating in this video and since we're anime only, a LOT of it may be wrong. Please lets us have our reaction and speculate based on the limited information we have, it makes it more fun for YOU who have read the manga to hear what we uninformed people think with no outside information.
WITH THAT BEING SAID, this discussion is a serious banger, and you should really consider sticking around for it if you want to hear some character analysis and theorizing.
We hope you enjoy this reaction to this absolute BANGER of an episode. This show is incredible.
☂ theories everywhere
Yes Toji got killed😂, it's funny you guys thought he'd just be running around in the present when Gojo is the one who is alive. That theory was just completely incoherent tbh
@@heavenlykarisma HUH??
We were just using the information presented to us by Megumi in the first season? What's incoherent about that?
@@BOLDcastJust so you know: timeline. This 2006. Jjk 0 is 2017. Jjk 1 is 2018
@@heavenlykarisma Gojo being alive doesn't mean toji is dead, let people speculate dipshit.
Toji actually really really loved Mama Fushiguro.
The mangaka in one of his sketches said that Toji actually stopped his gambling addiction and being a womanizer after he started a relationship with Mama Fushiguro, she was even able to keep his rage at bay, he was happy, after she passed away, sadly he returned to his bad habits, oh well.
He returned to his bad habits but He didn't returned to being a womanizer, He's loyal to Mama Fushiguro
Yeah the reason he says that he is "rusty" in episode 3 is because he stayed for a long time out of this kind of business
@@Zero0.9 don't mind me while I push up the glasses that aren't real up on my face "Actually" Toji would house hop woman and use them and there money for places to stay.
Noone cares that he was after lust
@@Zero0.9 -He returned to his bad habits but He didn't returned to being a womanizer, He's loyal to Mama Fushiguro-
I mean considering he runs of with tsumiki mom giving megumin a step sister no he went back to being a womanizer.
11:48 It wasn't clear here but Toji didn't do anything at that moment, the curse spirit itself rejected Geto, which gave the opportunity for Toji to act. It's implied that it's in this fight that Geto learned that he can't steal a curse linked to someone else, which is why in JJK 0 he planned to Kill Yuta so he could get Rika.
That's such a nice detail
Huge detail, I had theorized that maybe it was because it contained S grade objects inside, which would interfere with his ability of being "two levels above". But now I remember him saying something along the likes of "I cannot steal her while she is attached to you, so you must die" while he fought Yuta. Thanks for that info
Are we sure that's the case? Toji used the Inverted Spear of Heaven in that moment, which would also explain why Geto couldn't absorb the spirit.
@@xXSamir44Xx I think ur theory also applies to it
@@xXSamir44Xx yes we are sure that's the case. the author clarified this point between the chapters in the manga volume
Toji gave Geto the monkey ptsd so much so that Geto started calling everyone monkeys
I was thinking the same shit upon editing that part of the video!
Its funny cause Toji was using it sort of Ironically, since he was looked at that way by the Zenin clan, so he disparages Geto by saying he got beat by a monke. Then Geto turns around and start unironically calling non-curse-users monke lmao
*calling all non-sorcerers monkeys.
And Gojo began to wear a mask covering his eyes to improve his perception after the battle with Toji.
He in deamn time
@@BOLDcasttoji die look badass
29:40 Just a reminder about Toji telling Gojo that his kid will be sold to the Zen-in Clan. Toji hates the Zen-in, because like Maki, they rejected him because they see no value in people without cursed energy. So Toji was saying that his kid was beeing sold to the Zen-in because he wanted Gojo to "buy" or take care of Megumi instead of him beeing raised by the clan that he despise so much.
And even if we take the most uncharitable interpretation... I don't think Toji would even have been mad if Gojo would have chosen to kill Megumi instead (as revenge against him or smth along those lines) since that would at the very least mean that the Zenin bastards won't get their hands on his kid. Point is, he basically had nothing to lose by telling Gojo since either way the Zenins wouldn't get Megumi.
Maki became the female version of toji
@@ar.michael8306I think it's a spoiler
He did sell megumi to the clan coz he knew megumi with that potential can fit and be welcomed to the clan
Even though Toji hated the clan he was thinking about Megumi’s wellbeing because Megumi would be welcomed into the clan and treated like royalty and knew he wouldn’t grow up corrupted like him, not the best father but he still cared for his son and I bet he’s laughing at the Zen’en clan in hell 😂
He called them "恵まれた blessings". That's why he remembered he named his son "恵 Megumi". With 0 cursed energy, he was a failure as a jujutsu sorcerer. But unlike him, Megumi was "blessed" as a jujutsu sorcerer.
I also thought that the reason his son a girl name Megumi is because he wants to remember him since he did say that he is bad with remembering guy names
@@JoeMama-hb7xs The name Megumi is difficult to tell the gender of, and it's true that it's used more often for women. But there are actually many male named Megumi in Japan. So it's not sure.
and boy that name live up with the meaning
I love how you guys actually take the time to think about the little details and really talk about everything most reactors don’t do that.
we do our best!
Its easier for people to notice when the show is genuinely good.
We point out a LOT of small details when we watch poorer shows, and people don't' like it as much.
I really like that even this incredibly traumatic event doesn’t just immediately make Geto turn evil. Most media would have someone turn evil over one traumatic event. He’s the one that makes the moral decision to not just murder all the cultists even when it’s perfectly understandable and they’re clearly evil, but it’s clear he’s just trying to rationalize an excuse to keep to his morals over his desires. Riko’s death put him on the road to becoming evil. On the flip side, Gojo ends up more moral after Riko’s death. This definitely influences him to care more about Yuta and Yuji. Goodbye, Riko. A short but poignant legacy.
Toji doesn't care much about gender, but the meaning behind the name. It's tied heavily with his past in Zenin.
Megumi means "blessing" because Megumi pretty much a bless in his curse life. He talked about it when he kick geto.
And he wish a blessed life for his son, unlike what happened to him.
And the tragic thing is, Megumi unironically doesn't know that, and even resent his name, because he thought his father doesn't care to give him properly name
Toji also mentioned in the last episode that he is not good at memorizing guy’s names
Gege (jjk’s author) said gojo was using geto as his moral compass in that scene, if geto had said yes to his question *the gojo we see today would’ve been a completely different person*
The moment Gojo asks Geto if we should kill them all ? but Geto forbade it, even though in Geto mind began not confident about being a jujutsu sorcerer anymore , meanwhile Jujutsu world made Geto who used to think like that turn his back on Jujutsu sorcerers to protect human and think that if world without normal human , there would be no curse.
Thank you Toji for leaving a blessing (Megumi) to Gojo and a curse (worm curse) to Geto! RIP the LEGEND TOJI!
That's such a sick way of putting it
Yeah I bet a certain someone is super thankful 😂
You could also consider Gojo’s “blessing” being him finally figuring out reverse curse energy, essentially putting him in a league of his own thanks to Toji.
@@Thebes342 that's true Toji the GOAT giving birth to another GOAT, Gojo
Toji was a bastard but goddammit I love him so much lol
The person holding Megumi during the scene when Toji is dying is Megumi's mom. It's harder to tell in the anime, but she has longer eyelashes (and it was also confirmed in the 2nd Popularity Poll for the series)
It's amazing how people see beefy Toji, see baby Megumi behind held by a skinny black haired person, and think it's a younger Toji.
How old do people think Megumi is?
its even harder when she appear in the manga, most of them said that's young toji
@@nequitia4665 I have never seen anyone who reads the manga assume that was Toji lol
If you slam your blade through someone's skull and they don't die from that, they can just take the win. Toji was clean. He put the hands on two of the strongest sorcerers out there and completed his mission. But, Gojo evolved on the brink of death and ascended to being the honored one. Even then, he still kept fighting. Toji remembered his son and died on his feet, leaving everything to Gojo. Goated antagonist. That after credits scene. All those people clapping at seeing Riko's dead body. Crazy how Gojo was just like, "Should we just kill everyone here?" And Geto is opposed to that because there would be no meaning to all that death. Their perspectives are truly and utterly flipped right now. And that makes it all the more tragic where they end up. A world with both Geto and Gojo as enemies to mankind would be a scary sight.
I'm low key pissed Toji died so early, he was such an interesting character ughh

Reversed Cursed Technique is finally explained !!! It's so simple yet so ingenious (and so on point for our Math-loving Gege) : if you multiply two negative numbers, that equals a positive number (thus positive energy). I think I'm going to take this opportunity to explain Gojou's technique (I haven't done so before because I wanted to avoid spoiling by adding info that wasn't properly given).
Okay so I've already discussed about how Gege loves maths and science (Nanami's technique, Gojou's technique, Black Flash and probably many other stuff I'm forgetting). The math however is not actually what makes Gojou's technique work, it's more of a perfect analogy rather than an explanation (after all, maths itself can't explain reality).
So until now we have seen Gojou achieve several things : Stop incoming stuff, push back stuff with Red, attract stuff to him (with we now know as Blue), and finally straight up erasing shit with Purple.
The base neutral form of Limitless that stops stuff works similarly to limits in maths, and more precisely Gege explained it as a converging series. A series is basically a sum that's repeated infinitely, it can either diverge (meaning that the sum keeps increasing/decreasing to infinity), or it can converge (meaning it will slowly get closer and closer to a limit, but never reach it. For example, the sum of the 1/2ⁿ : If you do it manually, 1 + 0.5 + 0.25 + 0.125 etc... you quickly intuitively realise that you will always get closer to 2, but never actually get to it. This is a converging series, and this is basically the neutral form of Limitless.
The "attraction" part of Limitless, is where things get a bit wanky with the explanation, even by the author haha. In the anime it's when they talk about natural negative numbers, and the imaginary apple bit (never understood why the translation went for this shady ass image xD). Basically how I personally understand it : Exorcism is based on negative energy, so when Gojou speaks about "reinforcing his technique", he basically fuels it with more negative energy. Since his technique is basically space-time manipulation, he basically creates a negative space which induces a void-like effect, attracting things around it.
Red has been described as "the divergence of infinity", and a "reversed cursed technique." Here it basically means he's making the initial series diverge, aka go to infinity, which creates the effect we saw on Jogo in season 1. Now that I can talk about RCT, I can explain that by reversing his Cursed Energy into Positive Energy and fueling his technique with it, he reverses the effect of Blue to make it Push stuff away (so as I said, it's like he "adds" to the series with positive energy to make it diverge, compared to adding Negative energy which creates a void cause it goes in the negatives).
Finally we got Purple. As you might've already guessed by now, it's simply the use of Blue and Red at the same time. The author talks about "imaginary mass", and although it might make sense with Imaginary Numbers in maths, even I haven't had the courage to work it out in depth lmao. I just consider that if you try to push and pull stuff at the same time, it basically rips it appart.
I'll finish by adding even more depth about Gojou's technique with a detail that I very VERY rarely see talked about, yet that is soooo cool, which is the origin of the names "blue" and "red" for Gojou's technique.
I am quite certain that it is a referrence to a phenomenon called "Redshift" or "Blueshift" in astronomy. Indeed when a very very far away object moves either away or towards us, it creates a doppler effect with light (well technically not only doppler effect but also the expansion of the universe for redshift, but let's not get into details). This phenomenon causes the object to appear more red or more blue than it actually is.
Basically, the wavelength of the light either gets compressed (when the object comes closer to us) or expanded (when the objects gets away from us).
And as you might have already guessed, Redshift happens when the object gets farther (repulsion) and Blueshift when the object gets closer (attraction).
So yeah, the depth of referrences in Gojou's technique are truely marvelous.
It's so crazy how much thought was put into his powers. I really appreciate the level of detail because it makes the "overpowered character" trope actually interesting. There's a limit to how much I can stomach rationalizing magic using pseudo-science or random theoretical physics (at some point it's just kinda like "why bother?"), but in a case like this, I think it adds a lot to the justification, since he really is SO MUCH more powerful than the others in the story.
@@BOLDcast Tbf you're right about rationalizing magic using physics being kinda of pointless, here it's more like fanservice for math or physics nerds honestly haha.
However in JJK it's not like magic is explained by physics and maths, it's just all referrences or analogies (not like Nanami's technique actually somehow manifests the power of the 7:3 ratio for some strange reason). Same thing here, Blueshift and Redshift don't *explain* how Gojou's technique work, but they're cool science fanservice.
It's like how JJK keeps referrencing Japanese culture, litterature or religions and beliefs, it also referrences science in the same way.
Not gonna lie, read the explanation in the anime and this and I still don't understand how Gojou didn't die in the last episode lol
@@reruarikushiteru Ah, don't worry this is normal, I haven't talked about Reversed Cursed Technique in depth itself because it ISN'T part of Gojou's innate technique, but rather something all sorcerers could theoratically achieve (like black flash) but only a select few actually can because it's absurdly hard.
Basically Cursed energy is negative, it comes from negative emotions and can only hurt or strengthen. For that reason it cannot heal, and in order to heal you have to turn it into positive energy.
By multiplying cursed energy by itself, it turns into positive energy, which you can use to heal yourself (or in case of extreme mastery, heal others, which is something only Shoko and Yuuta can do, Gojou himself can't do it).
The only ways to kill a Reversed Cursed Technique user is either to make them run out of Cursed Energy, or to destroy their brain. Since Toji did not destroy Gojo's brain, he could heal himself with RCT. Hope that helped.
@@math9172 thanks!
Btw, the image Toji sees of the person holding baby Megumi isn’t younger Toji, it’s Megumi’s mum. She just looks insanely similar to Toji. Maybe it’s a bit more obvious in the manga panel, but she’s got long lashes and a different hair style than Toji. I guess Gege was hoping that would be enough to differentiate them for readers, lol.
Wait for real??.I thought it was Tojo even when I read the manga

Sheeshh yahh so cool analogy bruh
Toji rubbed off so bad on gojo and geto.
Geto starts calling people monkey after this.
And gojo starts wearing eye mask to get better at perception and sensation.
Broooo thats such a good point
I’d like to say that in one of authors interviews I believe he says the buddhist quote gojo used was in arrogance, while in an earlier chapter back when the narrator was describing sukuna during the mahito fight, it was in a serious deity sense. it’s sad that parts with the narrator in the manga were done by characters (nanami in this situation) in the show so some knowledge/worldplay is withheld but still, amazing adaptations for both seasons so far.
amazing reaction as well, love the theories.
I wonder if they will change that in the future for the Anime. The Manga uses the narrator quite a bit later on. Fitting, since Gege is a huge HxH fanboy. I would love to see a narrator used well in the JJK Anime (when it is necessary).
@@Jakokokoroko same here man, it’s one of my only gripes with the show, the lack of narration when the manga is full of amazing use of it.
@@ned4465 It was gege's choice not to use a narrator for the anime
@@Patek.01 damn, who would’ve thought, understandable decision though
@@ned4465 Well like you said earlier I'm sure most of the narration will be said by characters in-world. So maybe Gege just doesn't like having some nameless all knowing being talking over a story. Me personally I didn't mind Geto, Nanami, Nobara, and Gojo being narrator's in S1, but I can see why people would be a lil bummed
Gojo is 16 here and 28 at the start of season 1, so there's ~12 years of growth in-between :D
Yes and in the Movie JJK 0 Gojo is 27
Yep and in the current events in the manga, gojo is 29 :D
Also in case you guys were wondering, this arc is called “hidden inventory” because of Toji’s curse spirit that acts as his inventory for weapons
Also because Toji has literal hidden strength cause of his lack of cursed energy.
Fun fact this episode was storyboarded and directed by Arifumi Imai who animated levi vs beast titan and also the legendary levi chase scene.
Megumi means blessing. That can't be stressed enough. I've seen a lot of people say Toji gave his son a girl's name in order to remember it, but I think the more important part is the meaning. If you ask me, Toji named his son "blessing" because his wife and his son were the first and last truly good things that ever happened to him. That was my take away, at least. He was a screw-up all his life who abandoned his son, the one gift the world gave him without exacting some cruel price in return. Taking down Gojo was his last chance to regain his self-respect - and his last words were him hoping Gojo could be the person Megumi needs where Toji couldn't.
p.s.: That isn't Toji holding the baby. That's his wife, Megumi's mother.
Just thought I'd mention since I haven't seen anyone else talk about it. Megumi always mentions how his father gave him a girls name, but what makes this interesting is, both in the manga and the anime, in Ep 3 when Gojo asks if he knows him, Toji states he's terrible at remembering guy's names. Which has the implication that he intentionally gave Megumi a girls name in an effort to not forget his son, which while kinda twisted that it would be a problem in the first place and doesn't excuse his absence from Megumi's life, is kinda wholesome relative to Toji and his overall demeanor in general
yeah we talked about this last episode and this episode as well
He still didn't remember his name so it didn't help that much
@@luceafarul5740 lmao fair enough, although….. if you’re a manga reader there’s more I could say but I despise spoiling people
It's a bit unclear because of the subtitles, but the reason why Toji remembers Megumi is because Megumi means "blessing" and he just talked about how they were born with blessing.
Toji could destroy Getou's curse's domain because the blade cancels cursed technique, that's why he could stop the spell.
Toji WAS a bad dad, he did abandon his kid, however it's also true he partly cared about Megumi since he told Gojou about him. One might also speculate that he abandonned Megumi cause he lived a dangerous livestyle that could put him in danger.
We didn't know about the blessing thing, but we talked about both of those things in the video
The way I understood it, because Toji can't use cursed energy, He would normally be unable to break our of a domain, but because he had the cursed weapon, he was able to use the energy from that in order to break through, because like we learned in season 1: you can break through the domain's veil if your attack is greater than the force creating the domain. Since this domain weaker than say Gojo's or Mahito's, Toji could break through it with a weapon.
@@BOLDcast Yeah Sorry I should've waited to finish the commentary before posting this one comment, I do watch your commentary and love it, but sometimes I can't help but comment early cause I get endeared by your reactions.
I did write in advance my two other comments too because I had way too much to talk about for this episode lmao.
Anyway as always I loved your video, as usual you're very analytical and accurate (I swear I'm electrified about some of your predictions or theories because they're so smart and true... but can't talk about them cause that would spoil !) In any case I can't wait for the rest of season 2, I'll try to tone down my massive walls of text tho.
@@BOLDcast In this case the strength of the Domain does not matter, because the Inverted Spear will cancel it out, as that is it's entire power.
Carson really is developing that jujutsu theory brain right now lol,
You guys were talking about it not being black or white and yes this is one of the aspects I love in jjk cuz goje and geto were 16 and they just witnessed that, gojo had to carry the body of the girl he were having fun at the beach not even a day before and we wanted to destroy those people so they want too, cuz they have actual normal human feelings and not some stable unshakable moral ground how they fo in most shows. I also like all aspects that make satoru human cuz his whole life he was treated as a weapon basically and in the present too he is this sort of higher being so I feel like he is constantly being silly and caring about his students in a way to belong too and be seeing as a person
100% agreed and on the same page
I think Carson likes Toji so much that he's interpreting everything related to Toji being a father (the only vaguely sympathetic thing about him) in the best light possible. Like Toji not remembering his son's name is absolutely shitty but Carson is like "oh he's just got a bad memory". Or Toji literally telling this insane teenager who killed him about his son in the vaguest terms possible -- "Toji told Gojo to not let his son be like him". He can't even conceive the possibility that Toji dying and Toji abandoning his kids before dying can exist in the same world. Makes for a good discussion though. And it's pretty funny.
Lindsey's take on Toji is more reasonable and in line with the facts that the narrative has presented to us so far I think. Carson's opposing opinion makes their discussions fun though. They have a really good dynamic and thoughtfulness for dissecting the story, whether their theories are a little out there or not. You two are really fun to watch and listen to.
Also really love how thoughtful and layered Lindsay's character analysis is. I've noticed this in other episodes too. In this one, her take on Gojo and his morality/empathy/strength was really fascinating and well spoken. And her thoughts on Geto in general and how he is from S1, JJK0, and this season.
thanks for at least not shitting on me for having a different understanding/misunderstanding as thats part of the whole process
For me, yeah I like Toji, he's a really entertaining presence in the show. But I don't think it's that much of a stretch given the limited amount of information about Toji's background, and given a more conventional shonen, I would be right on the money, but because this is jujutsu kaisen, they're throwing a bit more of a curveball.
I just figured it was more a of a reveal than it was, I suppose. In my head it went like this:
1. Megumi talks about his deabeat dad who gave him a girl's name because he didn't care about him.
2. We learn that he deserted his children, and tried to sell Megumi to the Zenin cause he didn't care.
3. The audience is now set up to understand Toji as a complete piece of shit.
4. Enter Flashback arc where Toji is the main antagonist. Given what we know about him, he's a deadbeat piece of shit, who is now known to be a heartless mercenary who fights dirty.
5. Well we know from Megumi in Season 1, that Toji is out there somewhere (in the present time), since he just abandoned Megumi and Tsumiki.
6. PLOT TWIST, Toji just had a bad memory, gave his son a girl's name because he WANTED to remember it, His last htoughts were of his son. Turns out he isn't heartless, he just has serious trauma from being fucked with by the Zenin. And the real reason he didn't come back wasn' tbecause he was a complete piece of shit, but because he was killed by Gojo.
7. In his last moments, Toji tells Gojo that his son will be sold to the people who turned him into the beast that he is today and says "do with that what you will". To me that signifies that he wants Gojo to do something about that, but doesn't think he has the right to give anyone orders or beg him in his dying wish.
That's more or less my whole interpretation. But in reality, its not that simple. He was still a deadbeat, AND his last thoughts were of protecting his son from the fate he suffered.
Saying "he's actually a good dad" I admit wasn't the best way to say what I was thinking. What I mean is "He's not just a monstrous piece of shit, there's more to it than that."
I hope this clears that up.
Well said, I really expected him to survive tho because of what Megumi said in the first season and how everyone hyped him up.
@@ousmaailayoub5727 From S1 we know that Megumi doesn't even know his dad his dead yet. When we see some glimpses of his flashback for the first time (in the arc that Yuji dies) Megumi thinks to himself that his dad is still out there somewhere living a carefree life after having abandoned them.
@@BOLDcasttbh, when something (megumi) is sold there is a buyer (the zenin clan) and a seller. I don't think megumi's mom would sell him so it's probably toji the one who made arrangement for megumi to be brought to the zenin clan when he is old enough.
Toji was dealing with a lot of trauma. It doesn't make him a secretly good person in retrospect, but trauma does things to a person's brain and affects how they act.
Toji was a wild beast of a person before falling for Megumi's mom; he was a professional killer, a gambler, a womanizer, and a guy who couldn't hold on to a single cent he earned. He lived without dignity or self-respect because of the traumatic way he was raised by the Zenin clan, who made him feel subhuman for lacking Cursed Energy and a Cursed Technique.
But he changes when he meets his first wife. They have Megumi, then she dies a few years afterwards. Toji goes back to his old ways after her death to try to block out the pain of losing her. But it's telling that Toji keeps the surname Fushiguro even after taking a second wife, Tsumiki's mother. Why didn't he just move on and take his second wife's name, like he did with his first wife? That should give you an idea of how much Megumi's mother meant to him. So why would he abandon his son and plan to sell him to the family he hated so much?
It's implied that Toji arranged for the "sale" of Megumi back to his clan because of a few factors; he was desperately strapped for cash, he realized that he's too much of a mess to properly take care of Megumi, and he believed that the Zenin Clan would treat his son very well in their own weird way as sorcery elitists, at least they would treat him **much** better than the way they treated Toji. Remember, he wasn't dumping Megumi on their doorstep or pawning him off on them, they wanted Megumi back in the Zenin household so badly that they were going to pay Toji a fortune for him. Megumi having the Ten Shadows Technique meant he's essentially royalty, and next in line to be head of the clan.
Then the utter self-hatred that Toji feels towards himself for giving up that "blessing" of his first wife caused his mind to cope by repressing memories of Megumi, even causing him to forget his own son's name, because it's just too painful for him to think about.
There's a famous quote; "He who makes a beast of himself rids himself of the pain of being a man." I think that's the way Toji tried to live his life after the death of Megumi's mother, in order to cope with not just the trauma of her passing but also the trauma of his early years, before he met her. He tried to live the life of a hedonist and a nihilist. "I'm not a man, I'm an animal. I don't care about anything or anyone, even myself. I'll just go back to doing what I'm good at to make enough money to get by in this shitty world, maybe eat some good food, win a little more dough off the races, bed a few pretty women, and that'll be enough. Hell, I'll even shoot a little girl in the head if it's gonna net me a nice payday. There's really no point in anything anyway."
But no matter how hard he tried to bury it, he had things that he loved in the world, he was still a man; he was just trying to convince himself he wasn't. So I don't think it's as simple as Toji being a deadbeat. You have to read between the lines when it comes to Gege Akutami's characters writing.
Sorry for the essay, I just think Toji's a pretty fascinating character given how little he's actually in the story. Also, I have a few childhood traumas that caused me to act recklessly and do some shitty things as an adult that I'm now regretful of and try to forget I did, so maybe I relate a little bit.
Toji wasnt scared that Megumi becomes a gambeler etc. He was scared that his son will become part of shithole of a family called Zennin that are embodiment of all bad in jujutsu society. Modern day Gojo is actually fighting against the same idea when he is saying he wants to revolutionize jujutsu world.
Megumi has the most important Zenin inherited tecnique. Its spitting in the face of the clan that his name is Fushiguro and not Zenin.
Holy fuck this episode, couldn’t have dropped this episode at a better time, gojo high off of that Zaza🔥
So, I've been looking forward your reaction especially, because you're kinda fixated about Megumi's names since Season 1, now that you have your answer about why his father name him "Megumi"
Toji as a kid was tortured by the zenin clan and treated horribly, that’s why he despises sorcerers so much, that’s also how he got the scar on his mouth.
This is one of the defining moments of not only Gojo’s character but JJK as a whole. They took a more enlightened approach to the honored one scene in the anime whereas the manga was a bit more feral
Finished watching the entire discussion and was fully emersed you guys make it so satisfying on already great episode this season keeps on being insanely good.
Toji looking like the Apple logo
🍎
Chain is special grade tool as well, it can extend infinitely as long as the end of it is hidden. Mentioned in notes from author only.
Greatest discussion by far. Shows you literally have the best understanding of jjk world out of all reactors I’ve watched not even close. So sick.
very happy to hear that man
it really means a lot!
Honestly the best non-manga reader breakdown I've come across. Listening to you both speculate and understand how stuff works which brings you to certain conclusions just makes me really happy. Amazing reaction and really good theories.
These guys and "A Goodwin TV" are by far the reactors with the most insight into the story and the character's own feelings, perspectives and motivations. Refreshing and most appreciated for a show as layered as JJK
If I am not mistaken, this episode was directed and storyboarded by Arifumi Imai, who did the Levi vs Beast Titan scene and the legendary Levi vs Kenny squad scene. Someone correct me if I am wrong. I am not sure if he did the entirety of those Levi scenes, but he is so the main guy behind them. As well as other great AOT action scenes. Other works as well.
You are correct.
(1) 10:44 The curse's simple domain wansnt strong enough for Toji
(2) 11:52 Here Geto gets to know he can only absorb Unbound curses NOT curses who have formed a bond with another person for that the original owner needs to be dead .(Like Toji and the tool storing curse here and Yuta and Rika in the movie)
(3) 12:29 Toji referred himself as a Monkey
(4) 12:41 Megumi means blessing
for number 1, i think the inverted spear weapon cancel/nullify the technique, he slash the domain with it, toji does not have curse energy
The little knife thing with the two prongs that toji uses is called the "Inverted Spear of Heaven", and it's ability is the forced deactivation of any cursed technique.
The main usage of this ability is piercing through Gojo's limitless techniques natural aplication, the "infinity", as well as destroying the Slit Mouth Woman's simple domain.
I'm pretty sure after this arc Gojo destroys it, probably because it broke through infinity.
Also, I might be wrong, but I think it had three prongs at one point, but it broke off.
This episode contains probably my first only real gripes with this season (and it's all quite small, which is telling how good the adaptation is). First the fight between Getou and Toji was quite heavily modified. For example I am not a big fan of the walking section, in the manga the discussion takes place at about the same spot as Rika's body, and when Getou tells Toji "enough, that's not what I want to know", it's like he's still in shock about Rika's death and therefore has been rooted in place. The finger gun although cool, was kind of random and IMO took from the emotion of the scene.
I get why they changed it, MAPPA has been cooking so much this season they couldn't fathom having a relatively stationary dialogue, so they again went insane with the scenery and visuals, but I do believe this scene would've benefited from a more sombre and almost immobile context.
Anyway on the other hand they involved the curse Getou used in the movie I think so it's a really cool detail, they showcased more of the Tomb of the Star which I thought was a bit undershown last episode compared to the manga and of course the animation of the fight itself was insane, so really overall it's a good adaptation.
Last thing about the fight : This is how Getou learns he can't steal a cursed spirit that already has a "master", but he can do it if the master is dead ! That's why he knows in JJK0 than he has to kill Yuta to get Rika. Again JJK subtly tying things together without having to give you a massive wall of exposition. Btw for the post-credit scene, in the manga it was unclear what Toji's cursed spirit said to Getou after Toji's death. When asked about it Gege (the author) replied "The cursed spirit says "mom" I think", he's such a troll lmfao.
I am a slightly disappointed in all the scenes where Toji speaks to the leader of the cult too, because in the manga everything seemed to appear in a much more sterile environment. However here it might just be my habit biais talking, because I 100% understand the point to showcase the irony between the very neet and beautiful appearance of the cult, and their extremely ugly ideals and nature.
That's where my criticism ends, the entire last half of the episode was near perfection. They made Gojou just as unhinged as in the manga, all the while still adding more unique perspectives and scenery (they can't help themselves lmao). Gojou mastering Reversed Cursed Technique might feel a bit random or "easy", but in season 1 we've already seen Mahito mastering Domain Expansion after tasting "death" from Yuji and Nanami, as well as Megumi trying Domain Expansion while in grave danger.
Btw, "Throughout heaven and Earth I alone am the honored one." is a quote attributed to Buddha.
@@dilflordsupreme9051 Hahaha that's fair but I also included praise and positive elements, so my criticism is only maybe half of my comment.
I mention the connection to buddhism and that line and Gojo's mindset near the end of the discussion around 55:52
Funny how Yuichi Nakamura (Gojo) plays Buddha in Record of Ragnarok
@@dilflordsupreme9051 A criticism that is small in severity can still be something that takes a while to fully explain lmao. "Small" clearly meant "isn't a big problem", not "I can summarize my feelings about this criticism near-instantly." Don't shit on people for explaining themselves. Actually understanding what someone means is always more important than how long the comment is.
I love your reactions and discussions.
I can not speak English well so I watch your video everyday to improve my listening skill.
I’m proud of that my country has incredible culture, manga&anime.
Thank you for amazing videos.
From a big fan of yours in 🇯🇵
A lot of Reactors dont remember that worm curse after watching the JJK Movie
we aint most reactors
19:39 “he never ran out on megumi” no he absolutely did he may have died but that was well after he abandoned his kid lol
Fun fact: The chain Toji uses is a cursed tool called the chain of a thousand miles and extend infinitely as long as the user keeps one end of the chain concealed
You guys theorising about Geto at the end is so fun to watch.
it actually was megumi's mother in the flashback golding him
Yeah, Geto is Gojos' moral compass, and he still follows them til this day.
Im not sure whether you guys already find out, but the one holding baby megumi is toji's old wife, not toji.
Fine, Gege (the author) said that Touji took the wrong path after his wife's death. And in case there was any doubt, Touji loved his son, but that would be understood later.
In case you don't know why Purple is called an "Imaginary technique"(later dubbed "Hollow" by Gojo in s1),
Its an imaginary mass achieved by fusing Positive and negative(cursed Amplification and Reversal). What it essentially does is replace any matter it comes into contact, with an imaginary matter that doesn't really exist.
So in short, it replaces something with nothing, and erases it out of existence.
I really like how they did the contrasts of color between Gojo and Geto,
Other than the obvious black/white and yin-yang imagery, the scene at the end of Gojo in red and Geto in blue in the religious building literally looks like the scene of red and blue mixing before Hollow Purple (Gojo's technique)
12:56 Megumi in japanese means Blessing, thats why he remembered at this moment when he was talking about blessings.
28:48 that’s Toji’s wife
nice to see you guys analyze the details carefully. in the scene Gojo says "should we kill them all" he really doesn't feel a thing and was only waiting for Geto's confirmation, because he trusts Geto as his moral compass (the author mentions about this in the fanbook). which means if Geto says otherwise, then Gojo would've gone on a massacre and he'd feel great about it, because of the power that he gained. there'll be more explanations on Geto's downfall next ep but it's as you've guessed.
this episode was insane.
first of all while rewatching the show with you on patreon I had this little mini theory about reverse cursed energy/techniques (not really a theory in hindsight) that since "cursed" is negative then the reverse would be positive and from what Gojo was on about it sounds like it is the case and in my thoughts I imagined it could be called "blessed" energy/technique as well which is ironic considering Megumi's name here.
the Gojo/Geto duality is interesting because from this episode it gave me a vibe that they may be one and the same just on a different pace, Gojo here went so far to the point of being removed enough to not care about killing, while Geto was trying to convince himself not to kill, then Gojo in present time SEEMS to put much more value in lives despite still being removed enough in mental state, and Geto in the movie seems (to me at least) to have reached a similar state as Gojo in this flashback, can't say where Geto is currently but that's how I see it at least, could be completely different, there is the whole basketball argument they had that kinda suggests something different as well
also I REALLY need whatever got Gojo high enough to be at that much peace
gojo fadedthanahoe on some deathjuice
also I like your name for it "blessed" energy. And yeah i never thought of cursed energy as inherently being negative in a mathematical sense, but that would make sense given that cursed energy works off of negative emotion
On toji's flashback the one holding baby megumi it's not him, it's his wife
OMGGGGG I WAS WAITING FOR THIS... ONE HOUR?????? I'm about to eat good 🫶
Enjoy!
Toji did sell megumi to the clan knowing he had potential they would accept and welcome him but in his last moments he realize that he really cared for his son and didnt want him to go to the clan so he asked gojo indirectly to interrupt with the deal
This is how my favorite character died.
Appeared quickly. Created chaos. And also died quickly.
RIP Toji.
Just to clarify, this arc takes place 11 years ago, at this time megumi was like 4 years old and he was gonna get sold to the zenin clan to be raised by them, i won't say more cuz next episode will explain more
Thats why your my favorite reactors like an hour long video with your reaction and discussion about one episode of a show looks like dedication to me
Always thank u for putting all these effort for us
Ps carson seems like he really likes toji since he kept defending him well i agree he's great
Also i feel geto is really underrated in jjk alot of people just hates him for how he act in the movie
Man, you 2 have some interesting stuff when it comes to theories, it gives the video such a unique touch. I'm really looking forward to your reactions to the next chapters
We'll be expecting you there!
12:50 "Blessing" Is "Megumi" in Japanese, that's why he remembered.
In the flashback of Toshi is Mamaguro and Megumi, not Toshi.
btw this isn't a spoiler but geto couldn't abosrb that cursed spirit because it already had a master-servant relationship with tojiko. that already existing relationship needs to be broken before he can absorb it which is what he tried to do in jjk 0 with rika and yuuta
Toji vs gojo is actually a parallel to buudha vs the monkey king. A "monkey" like toji rebelling against the absolite might and divinity that gojo represents, with gojo himself directly quoting buudha. Despite his heavenly restriction, the only thing that set toji apart, screaming at him to run(somethings off), toji stays and fights due to his inferioirity complex and desire to crush the pinnacle of sorcery, proving that he has a place in the world and that those that denied him were wrong. Also i think whats important between gojo and geto is that gojo has always been sure of himself, he wears his heart on his sleeve and does what he wants, "theres no reason to strength". Geto, meanwhile, hasnt found his answer yet on what jujutsu and strength is for. He has been obeying what sorcerers are supposed to do, not what he wants to do. Its clear even in episode 1 that he looks down on the weak, he treats them like a burden that must be protected. Its telling that hes the one that insulted utahime more than gojo even though he wasnt as direct. While gojo is kind of disconnected from these internal conflicts because hes so above all of it, geto cannot accept it, hes down in the trenches mentally.
I think Megumi actually mean blessing or something along those lines, which is why Toji remembers when he tells Geto to count his blessings or whatever.
28:47 just a kindly reminder, toji already so buff even since the moment he met little gojo in the flashback, so i assume it's mrs fushiguro in the picture
28:47 the person holding megumi is Toji’s wife
Toji is the reason why Geto was hating so much on Maki in the movie 0, i mean he really went out of his chill character just to mock and insult her, he never did that with any non-sorcerer.
No, Megumi (恵, 恵み) just means Grace, Blessing. So when he was talking about blessings he recalled that's how he called his son.
So the numerous buildings in the tomb of the star might be stuff to set up the barrier like a fung shui thing. Or mabye people would stand or pray in them in the past when listing to Tengan preach. Or its a cool set piece. None of these are spoilers just my thoughts. Also this flash back arc is around 10 years in the past. cause current story happens in 2017 if I remember correctly. Also I always thought that the person holding baby Megumi is the mom.
13:02 Megumi actually means blessings in Japanese that's why he remembers
the translation for Megumi is blessing, that why when he talked about blessing he remember that he called his son Megumi.
Me: *seeing an hour long video*
Me: bring it on!
Megumi mother isn't a Fushiguro from what we know. Fushiguro name is Tsumikis moms sir name. Tusmiki and Megumi aren't blood related.
Tsumiki's(Megumi's step sister, shown in the origin of obedience, last few episodes of season 1) mom is a different person from Megumi's mom.
Fun fact: at the end Gojo got Toji´s blessing(Megumi) and Geto got his curse.
"Megumi" means "blessings" in Japanese
That's why Toji was reminded that he himself had named his son Megumi when he said "blessings"
Here at this point Gojo used Geto as his emotional support and also his moral compass, this is why he asked him if he should kill all of the religious cult members. If Geto would have said yes then Gojo would be a completely different person from who he is now, it’s sweet that he is such a caring teacher in the present because of Geto and what he taught him.
28:49 btw that's not toji that's megumi's mom aka toji's wife
Toji remembering his son's name because it's a female name in japan is kinda funny
The fact that they thought that its toji carrying baby megumi in his last moment is so hilarious. Its toji's wife
Isn't she beautiful? mama fushiguro took toji's heart insanely lol.
13:00 if I'm not mistaken, Megumi means "blessing/blessed", so that why talking about how they were all blessed (he says more times "megumi") by their parantage, Toji thought of his son
Watching anime and reading manga is always so exhilarating
Thank you Toji for being a real mf, catalyst to such massive change in the JJK world. Dude died on his feet with a hole in his chest. Some epic old man dying shit. Great reaction and discussion guys
10:40
Common misconception, Toji used the ISOH to cut apart the scissors.
This is such a common misconception multiple Roblox games for example have given him a Domain Breaker move. Again, Simple Domain's dont have literal walls, so there wouldn't be something for ISOH to stab. He cut up the scissors.
@ 28:34 thats Megumi's Mom
The reasson why he could slice the domain of the curse spirit wasnt because the weapon had more curse energy, that was the same weapon he used with Gojo. That weapon forces the realese of any curse techniques, so he literaly just turned off the domain
yeah we understood that, in fact I literally say that as its happening
@@BOLDcast I mean if you wanna get technical, you said "he sliced the domain because the curse energy of the weapon is greater than the curse energy of the domain"
That's is why I explained it, because there is a bunch of weapons that have a shit ton more of curse energy that the one he uses, but is not the amount of curse energy that matters here, its because of the special ability of the weapon. He could have used the most powerfull weapon there is and have zero effect on the domain.
@@BOLDcast To be fair, you actually said the opposite, you mentioned that it WAS because of the amount of cursed energy in the tool, but that wasn't what got rid of the domain.
@@SadRengo my bad, I thought I was replying to a different comment
You're right, that's not what I said. The particular curse-technique-enchantment of this weapon likely had a greater effect than just the cursed energy within it. If it were a different weapon, my logic would be sound (correct me if I'm wrong), but yeah this specific weapon definitely played more of a part.
my bad!
toji remembered his son because megumi in japanese means blessing / grace.
If you rewatch the OP now, you can see they are clapping a lot.
How do you feel about the clapping now that we have the cult clapping ominously at the end of the episode?
that wasn't Toji holding baby Megumi. It was Megumi's mom. Notice the spiky hair. Megumi has the same spiky hair, but the same color hair as Toji.
28:50 thats actually the mother 😂
The shot of the person holding baby megumi was not Toji,it’s his wife
Oh the author actually confirmed that Gojo asking if we should kill all these people was him using Geto as his moral compass, if Geto had chosen to kill them the Gojo we see now would be really different, since Geto spared them Gojo was able to like calm down
