On the Tattoo... Whilst I think it's still terrible for children to be getting Tattoos, I can see the logic behind the artist who convinced this girl to not fuck up her face and life by tattooing Trump onto her neck but instead just to get an American flag on her arm. If he said no, that girl goes somewhere else until she found somebody that would do it, and somebody WOULD eventually do it. Personally in a world of stupid people, trying to convince them to take the lesser of two stupids is sometimes the best option.
That's not the point and that's not how the tattoo industry works (I'm a tattoo artist). These people going somewhere else does not put his business or financial standing in jeopardy if he doesn't do the tattoo. People love tattoos, and if he's got a walk in shop, he's gonna have more clients that day who will likely pay him twice as much without him having to deal with all the trouble he's dealing with now. He can pay rent at a tattoo shop, his bills are likely well paid; he didn't need to do this.
I genuinely don’t fault the artist at all for doing the tattoo not that I’d allow my underage child to get a tattoo but you hit the nail on the head when you said they would’ve found someone else at least he tried to speak some sense into the family before doing the tattoo
I can agree with this because that’s probably what would have happened. The parents how ever need to be interested by child protective services to find out what else they are encouraging their child to do.
@@dismurrart6648I’m really sorry that happened to you. I’ve only seen other people’s houses burn (and it was fast) and it filled me with a sense of fear and dread that is difficult to describe. The aftermath must have been horrible. I hope you are doing better now. ❤
Not a tattoo artist, but I'm someone who has ink up and down their body. I'm 100% with Sosa on this. If he flat out rejected them, the parents would have kept going from artist to artist until they found someone with a lack of a moral compass (and possibly lack of training). They would have given her that face portrait which, let's face it, would have 100% been something she would have regretted later on in life. Coming to that compromise probably saved her from years of harships and thousands of dollars spent in cover ups. I think the real conversation should be about the parents...
I think he was put in an incredibly shitty situation and did his best to lessen the eventual disaster it was inevitably going to be. I think even if he turned them down and they found someone else that legit fucked up their child, he'd come out and talk about how he denied them and then get shit on for not doing more beforehand. It was gonna be a shitshow from minute one.
I agree. Don't think it was fully on him, these parents have an unhealthy relationship with politics and clearly it's effected their young child to a point she thinks this is normal..
You know what else is not ethical, what kids are going through in a certain part of the middle east right now, but hey, it's still happening. But here i am, whining about a tattoo.
Pretty much agree with this. Sosa, while maybe not making the best decision, isn't really the problem. The parents supporting the daughters want, and seeking out an artist to do the work is just messy...
Absolutely for Phil to compare what different outlets are reporting on the same topics. Having multiple, sometimes contrasting, sources is what helped me get out of my information bubble and the idea that it can help others do the same gives me a glimmer of hope
As an Aussie I unfortunately know at least part of the reason for these massive new bushfires. Eucalyptus trees. They are the bane of our existence and people imported them into the US because they grow well and pretty quickly in bad soil with little water. Unfortunately they are also extremely flammable because they use fire to propagate their seeds, the trees mostly survive the fire because the leaves and bark are so flammable they burn away before the trunk is damaged. The two places in the US that imported the most gum trees are Hawaii and California. Doubly unfortunately you can't really get rid of them, you just have to live with them. I'm sorry this is happening to you guys, we know what it's like and it's horrifying. Hope you can get control of them soon.
I'm from California, and I always think about the eucalyptus when there are fires. In school I was told that they were brought over by the Spanish because they thought it would grow fast and they'd be able to build ships and structures. But the wood ended up being too soft and oily. Burns extra hot and the smoke is extra toxic from the oils. Granted this was probably grade school education. I don't know if this is the real history.
It's Karma. Gavin Newsom REFUSED to sign the FBA Reparations bill months ago... Now it's a Tulsa massacre fire in the WEALTHIEST region. Straight from an angry GOD.🤷🏿♂🤷🏿♂🤷🏿♂
We have a Chaparral biome in SoCal. That kind of biome has a lot of plants that are prone to wildfires because they're dry and have flammable characteristics (i.e. oily "finish" on leaves). The wildfires spreading are not due to eucalyptus trees.
@notsure5088 well you know more than me haha. I just know I've been to Hawaii and California and it was the largest number of gum trees I'd ever seen outside of Australia. Now that I think about it aside from some handmade furniture I've never actually seen anything built from eucalyptus. All our building lumber is pine. Dunno about toxic smoke, I've cooked stuff over campfires made of eucalyptus and didn't die. There is a tree called the Oliander that is highly toxic, early European settlers reported men cooking meat with spits made of it and dying before the fire cooled. Either way the part about gum trees burning super hot is very true.
Yep so overfunded they can go to different states outside their jurisdiction for a bogus claim because some entitled brat missed a payment for batmobile convertible
I actually think that tattoo artist deserves way more credit than he's getting. He flatly refused to do a neck tatt especially a portrait on the girl, and was able to get her to just do an American flag on the upper arm, a part that is easily coverable with clothes. He tried to get them to balk at the price likely because he didn't want to be seen as refusing service. The only thing I'd have liked to see is the tattoo be about half the size it is right now. Otherwise? I think he did a very good job. If he flatly denied, the parents may have gone to another, less moral tattoo artist who would do the neck portrait. That's the thing everyone has to remember, flatly denying means they may go elsewhere, at least making her get one in HIS shop he has control over what, where and how big to a decent degree, which is a huge deal. Yes obviously I'd prefer the girl not have got one at all, but given the initial request I think the artist was beyond responsible.
Hard agree. For the parents to jump at the chance for doing it for 500$ they must’ve already gotten a lot of rejections and were deadset on their daughter getting the tattoo. I can’t imagine any 9 year old girl coming up with tattooing a portrait of Donald Trump on her neck by themselves, this is 100% on the parents. She’s gonna be so thankful they went to Sosa’s tattoo shop when she grows up.
You do understand she can just get the Trump tattoo still? Right, the guy did it for money and is scum for doing it. Claims he is against kids getting tattoos but gives a kid a tattoo and wants a law named after him. LOL, the comments on here have zero thought behind them.
@GrandChessboard Yes but he talked her down to the flag INSTEAD of the Trump tattoo, and when she came back a year later confirmed she didn't want the trump tattoo. It was very well handled. He encouraged her to get the flag as an alternative, not in addition. He's against kids getting tattoos but he was worried given there's no law against it in his state, the girl would go to a true shitbag who would give her a neck portrait of Trump, which would be an insanely nigh unfixable life destroying decision. By comparison, a flag on the upper arm is extremely normal and is highly unlikely to damage her life in future. "The guy did it for money" well yes that's how capitalism works glad you showed up, he needs money to buy his food. Everyone does everything for money. You flip burgers just for the money for example. And I put a lot more than 0 thought into it. Keep in mind tattoos are also painful. So he gave her a small, inoffensive, hide-able tattoo to sate the desire of her (and/or her parents) to get one, while avoiding the LIFE DESTROYING first option. I refuse to criticise the tattoo artist here. The person deserving of criticism are the girls parents, they should never have even remotely been okay with it in the first place, and their eagerness is absolutely fucking HORRIFYING to the point I'd argue they at least need to be investigated by CPS because IMO they're engaging on child abuse and child neglect. The tattooist did the best he could when presented with a horrifying circumstance in an attempt to prevent the life destroying option while still satisfying them so they wouldn't seek the life destroying one elsewhere.
@@GrandChessboardhe talked her down from getting the trump tattoo…she came back a year later having changed her mind and got a touch up on the flag. What he did is absolutely not scummy and is the best case scenario. Sure, she could still decide to get it, but he talked her and the family down from a wayyyy worse neck tattoo and appeased them with something else to quell the situation. You’re delusional.
Having lost everything last summer in the Jasper wildfire, I know too well how this feels. I cannot express the empathy I feel to these people. It is heartbreaking.
I believe Sosa handled this the best way he could. The parents were willing to pay $500 for this tattoo, and before that the parents approved of a portrait of trump on the neck. If this guy said “no” to these parents they were probably just going to go to someone else, and that someone else might of done a tattoo on this girls neck and taken and taking the parents all the way to the bank for it. He did a good job convincing this girl to get a simple American flag on the shoulder. Obviously the parents should have not allowed this but what Sosa did convincing her to get something different and on the shoulder is probably the best case scenario compared to what could have happened.
I get that, but that was not his explicit reasoning. His first reasoning is he was “moved” by the parents love for America and Trump enough to get their child’s neck tattooed with Trump (originally). That’s crazy!! So sure maybe what he did is the lesser of two evils, but he should not be proud of it, and he should be absolutely calling those parents out, not sympathising with them.
i find this reasoning SO ODD. then let them go elsewhere?! so $500 is more important than ethics? i find so many things in america weird. this is one. if this happened anywhere else in the modern world, child protective services would be involved and the tattooist arrested. this. is. WEIRD.
Coloradoan here. My parents bought their dream home 8 years ago, after they worked their butts off their whole lives. Their insurance has gone up $5000 JUST this year. They are now having to sell their home. It's awful, their dream is going away just because of the insurance. That house has been a sanctuary for us and now it's going away, all because of the insurance hike. It's devastating.
my grandparents have had a condo in Colorado for like 30 years and are having to sell because of fire insurance costs too. I'm so sorry about your parents' house!
That’s awful. Someone has their eye on their property. If it’s not some corporation it’s the government. You can own your own property, but if you can’t pay the tax (that the government decides the $$) you’ll lose your home too.
Welcome to the side effects of not building any homes for 30 years and prices shooting through the roof. Not a single one of us should be surprised and Sharon's premiums are at an all-time high, and not a single one of us should be surprised. That insurance companies are making record profits year after year.
There have been student protests occurring in Serbia for the past 2 months because of a canopy collapse on Nov 1st due to poor renovations by the government. Would really appreciate you guys covering this since the government has been using the media to go after protest organizers
Years back when I first heard about feral eucalyptus trees growing in LA my mind instantly thought how they're basically wood soaked in oil. They can lead to some pretty devastating fires here in Straya but they're also meant to be here (despite that being their job in nature, things went out of wack once we stopped letting that happen). Would be so much worse in an area where they're not meant to exist. Freakin' tragic stuff.
i dont like that she got the tattoo but i think that him talking her out of the trump portrait is a good thing. Look if her parents are willing to let that happen, if he said no they would've just found someone that would say yes and they might not have the conscious to try to change the tattoo at all
My thoughts exactly. Im against tattoos on children, I actually wanted to get a cross tattooed on my leg with my dads permission when i was 16. THANK GOD my state doesn't allow anyone, even with parents permission, to get tattoos until 18. With that said, I think I would have done the same thing if I was the artist. Especially since the parents where willing to pay so much money, and the law allows it, some scum bag definitely would have just agreed to tat the portrait on her if he turned her down. He did her a kindness by talking her down to the american flag and getting her to just stick to that.
@@maikolv2865here's the thing, it wasn't supposed to be the American flag, it was supposed to be a political figure, and children shouldn't have politics labeled everywhere
Yeah, pretty much this, like yes, the artist shouldn't have tattooed her at all. And obviously a lot of the blame goes towards the parents too. But, as you said, they would've found someone who said yes. Someone who, yeah, would've let her get a portrait of Trump (regardless of my feelings of the man, I would worry that she'd regret it, at least an American flag isn't too bad), but also someone who might've had shadier practices too.
Leaving out that over 30% of the LA fighter fighters are incarcerated people, who aren’t paid and won’t be allowed to be firefighters once released. Literally slave labour.
My father owns a one man Plumbing shop in Torrance and decided to take his HydroJerter to Pacific Palisades. Just found out he's the only first responder on the scene in that neighborhood helping put out embers and trees to prevent ember jumps. Cal fire needs some help from volunteers badly.
No, I’m with Sosa on this one. He made a smart move offering a compromise since the parents were a bit too gung-ho about this for whatever reason. I don’t know the motive here, but the parents were WAY too forward with this. Had Sosa not offered a compromise, she’d probably regret the Trump tattoo later in life. Plus: if he flat-out refused, the parents would probably just go to someone with less morals (and probably also less experience) to do this, and they’d do so without regrets. Any blame here primarily lies with the irresponsible parents for allowing their 9yo to get a tattoo of a political figure that’s been controversial for years. Sosa made the right move, but the parents absolutely did not. They’re the ones that need to learn a lesson.
In one of the article clips Phil showed, it said that the girl’s sister also got a tattoo at 9 and they thought of it as a tradition or something. I’m on Sosa’s side as well. If the parents want to show how grateful they are to be here, they should be the ones to get the tattoo- not their child.
I was in the 2018 spring creek CO fire that killed a bunch of people. I watched the fire break out from a ridge 1/4 mile away from where we parked. Guy knocked over a coal grill and the forest lit up. Within 10 minutes the fire was over 100ft tall and the wind was coming straight at me and my friends. We ended up running for 4 hours straight while watching the planes dropping FR. Forest fires are no joke, PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO BURN NOTICES.
And practice fire safety. Too many people assume nothing will go wrong and don’t follow basic safety tips like having a water supply of fireproof blanket to help stop a fire if they cause one
@@kumashock4074 Its insane how careless people are with fire. Its all fun and game until youre the one burning a significant percentage of the entire state. Accidents happen and fast.
@@SomeGuyWatchingRUclipsI remember watching the videos from the Spring Creek Fire. That was a fast burning blaze that spread unlike anything I had seen before. People were jumping in their trucks far before the flames were near right after receiving the evacuation notice just to be driving through a horror movie of hell itself within a few minutes. I will never forget watching those racing to escape as they operated in pure survival mode with fire on both sides of the road. I will never forget the one man driving on a dirt road at highway speeds as he was trying to outrun the flames of the forest that were keeping up with him make the choice to drive off the bridge and into the water.
I have a sibling who is convinced they are under constant surveillance. They latched onto some pure coincidences as proof (they would see moments on TV and movies that aligned with their worldview and say “See?! They stole that from me!” just as one example). That sibling has severe PTSD both from their own choices and the crap others put them through, and my entire family is worried about their mental health. Their recovery has been slow and painful, but they have taken several important steps and are on the right path. Here’s hoping they do not fall into the Tesla bomber’s darkness 🙏
The tattoo story is kinda crazy - but I don't find that I'm as upset with the tattoo artist as I am with the parents. Yes, it is weird & irresponsible to give a 9 year old a tattoo - but if overcharging $500 wasn't enough to dissuade the family, I doubt they wouldn't have gone elsewhere/gone somewhere shady to get it done. The artist is right that there needs to be more restrictions/safeguards. It's disappointing that this 9 year old got the tattoo, but this might have been the lesser evil in this case
@@Corgifan2 Sure, but then she probably would have gotten that tattoo of Trump on her neck some place else that was crazy enough to do it. The tattoo artist might not have been involved in it if he did that, but that girl would have had her life ruined. Honestly I think it was the least unethical thing to do, even if it’s still not great.
@@Corgifan2 then they'd just end up with an artist who cares less and is less qualified for the job. Either a better artist gets to play the bad guy and safely give the kid a more reasonable tattoo, or the parents keep shopping around until their child gets an ugly tattoo and an infection.
@@lightishredgummi Well, we can do the whole woulda, shoulda, coulda thing all day. But the problem here is that children shouldn't be getting tattoos, regardless of what state laws say. Parents can be coercive, artists can be irresponsible, and children cannot consent to decisions that are far more complex than they realize (most adults don't understand how the tattoo industry works, and that's why we as artists do a lot of explaining so they know what to expect, and even then things can go wrong).
This all feels so apocalyptic. Everything in the San Gabriel Valley is closed. So many of my friends have lost their homes. I had to go into work today and was met with so many of my clients needing to cancel their membership because they lost their homes. I even had to help a man and call 911 cause he lost his home in the fire and because he didn’t eat while he was evacuated he passed out because of low blood sugar, while waiting I heard so many people say they lost their homes. Our community is hurting but we are supporting each other the best way we know how. My heart aches for my hometown, it’s being reduced to ash.
As an Australian it should come as no surprise that I heavily empathise with the conditions around LA at the moment and I hope that people stay safe as a top priority. Whole thing reminds me of the 2003 Canberra fires which tire through the capital.
Same here, we've got far too much experience with bushfires and wildfires down here so it's easy to empathise with what's happening over there. It also makes it easy to hate (for lack of a better word) people like Keith Wasserman who want to "hire private firefighters to protect my home" rather than to help fight the fires in general.
@@spartanellsworth2336 there are parts that are having severe fire problems, but nothing compared to 2019-2020. Where I live we've been very lucky to actually have had rain the last couple of days.

I was talking with a Semi driver that had just brought a trailer load in from LAX to our CMH (Columbus, OH) hub and was asking "how is California?" When he responded with, "everything is on fire." I honestly thought he was making a joke at first until I saw this coverage today. My thoughts, prayers, and hopes go out to those people. Stay safe
I saw on my RUclips news reel showing videos titles saying fire in LA but didn't end up watching the videos. only after watching this video did I comprehend how bad it is
The worst part about these fires, as someone who lives in san bernardino county and works in LA county, is that with all these fires going on, I am still expected to come into work. Why am I working when there is a fire that is literally almost 20 miles north of my work? When half the workers are worried about their homes and families in the west and the other half are worried about the winds gusting, knocking over telephone poles in the east. And we're supposed to act like everything is normal while we're in the office? Everyone in SoCal....PLEASE BE SAFE. It is something we're used to here but just BE SAFE
Agree completely. I'm down the road in San Diego and in our two worst wildfires my employer told everyone to stay home, and that was before we really were set up to work at home. It was strictly to keep roads clear and so people in the likely-to-evacuate zones could be home and prepared. Makes so much sense.
Wish you, your loved ones & everyone in California to be safe in this devastating time. 🫶🏻 It’s insane that places are expecting people to come in, bet your A&@ that the higher ups are staying home making sure they are safe. Absolutely sick. Again. Stay safe out there.
Actually, california passed a law where you can skip work as long as you reasonably fear that by doing so, your life is at risk and the employer cannot hold it against you.
@@SandraKern-z7l you know just as well as I do that if they use it then they won't out right hold it against you, but they will retaliate in other ways, extra tasks, meaningless work, etc. and while yes they did pass that law, a lot of people are in the office where I am now, because our company won't provide paid time off for these situations. coworker across from me is like 3 streets over from the hazard zone rn. still came in because he didn't have enough vacation time to focus on evacuating so he loaded what he could in his car and drove to work.
The artist still fucked up. Just because another artist would have done the trump tattoo doesn't mean tattooing the child was right. It's like saying no to doing a swastika on someone's forehead because you know another tattoo shop would and instead convincing them to have 88 on their cheek instead. Still wrong. I stayed in the Palisades a few years back. Tucked away in the mountains, this neighborhood was really nice, and really quiet. I don't know if that vacation home is still standing, but god I hope it still is. My host was incredibly generous with her time, drove me up the Pacific Coast Highway, and told me about this secretive spot that would give me an amazing view of the coast. She even made sure I made it back to public transit. God I really hope she's okay, and I hope her family and her dogs are safe too.
I just got of the phone with my parents and they lost there entire house to the Eaton fire. They evacuated yesterday and are safe but they are left with only what they could fit in the car. It’s been such a dry fall and early winter for SoCal. Please stay safe out here.
Having lost a house to a fire, it's true, houses burn really fast. My house went up in about 18 mins. Please evacuate as soon as it's ordered and stay safe.
My house burned down in 2004 and it was an old house. Old houses aren't any better than new houses let me tell you. The electrical cord to our dryer caught on fire and our house was on fire within minutes. It was night time and we were about to go on vacation the very next day. My mom, brother, and dog got out immediately while I got stuck on the second floor in less than a minute. I literally couldn't go down the steps it was so fucking hot. A police officer and neighbor/volunteer firefighter across the street tried to enter the house twice and made it 2 steps before they went right back out the front door which should tell you I definitely had no chance in hell getting down the stairs. Thankfully 2 neighbor boys across the street grabbed their ladder and I got to climb out the window to safety. I damn near jumped out the window due to how hot it was in my house.
I had a wildfire near my house a few years ago and I remember gaming on my pc when I heard about it then 10 minutes later I couldn’t figure out why it was so dark. Then a few minutes later I started packing just in case we evacuate and not long after that there were police officers outside telling everyone to evacuate. Luckily there was only one house lost in the fire and some minor property damage. I can’t remember exactly how but it was but it burned at least 10,000 acres. It’s nowhere near the severity of the fire in LA but it’s crazy how fast something like that can get really bad.

The fires have been devastating. I grew up in Pacific Palisades and currently live next to Eaton Canyon. @@candybunny506 Someone else doing it is irrelevant and hypothetical. NO ONE should be tattooing children, period. If they went to someone else we would just be talking about a different tattooer, instead of this guy. Nothing changes it's still wrong.
We live south of the 210. The winds were absolutely crazy and destructive on their own, then top that off with the fire. It really looks like a disaster zone.
I have a friend just south of LA and he told me their power has been on and off for two days now just from the winds. So scary! I hope y'all stay safe over there!
I was there yesterday for a doctors appointment (I was their last appointment for the day very early) there were shopping carts, trash cans and trees all over the freeway and streets.
This is America, kids kill each other in math class. A little girl wants a flag tattoo? Seems like the anger is inconsistent. Perhaps yes more laws should be passed to help children, should it really stop at tattoos?
It’s terrible that tattooing a minor is somehow legal and that the parents were right there supporting it, but I can at least appreciate that the tattoo artist allowed the girl to get a tattoo done in a clean, presumably, shop under sanitary conditions. With how amped there were about her getting the tattoo done (willing to pay $500 for an $80 piece) who’s to say they wouldn’t have ended up getting it done in some shady apartment by a non-licensed artist if shops kept turning them away. At least now there is less of a chance that an infection of some sort would result.
People need to be more aware, a small fire in Los Angeles burned down more than 1,000 homes and 22,000 acres. Do people forget what happened to Maui Hawaii?? A small fire destroyed everything there
I'm in Burbank and packed up with only necessary items if the fire starts moving closer. Hopefully the winds continue to get weaker so we can get air support for the fires. Heart goes out to my fellow LA peeps who already lost their homes. 💔💔
Burbank here too! My family all have our pills, pillows, pants, and pets ready to go with the equestrian center on standby for my horses. Be safe my neighbors! All my love ❤
3:02 "One of the biggest issues ... is manpower" LA County population: ~9,663,000 Makes me think of Samuel Coleridge: "Water, water, every where, nor any drop to drink" 9M person-strong bucket brigade between ocean and fire would be quite a sight, but still completely useless here :(
1.5 years ago we had a fire in Nova Scotia, Canada in a suburb and it destroyed hundreds of homes. I can’t explain properly how much I feel for everyone affected by the fire. I wish everyone safety and love
As an Arizonan, I can tell you that the same people screaming about their "rights and freedoms" are the same ones that would be appalled by a 9yo getting a tattoo. They want their right to send their kids to school without vaccines, have guns, and shoot fireworks but they need to "protect the children" from body mods. (No, 9yo's should not be getting tattoos and should explicitly be illegal)
Girl... The parents in this story are anti-science but pro-tattoo on a 9yo. Get real. Trump supporters don't have a logic, they just hate anything that's good because goodness is for the other side.
@@boston18sfs I mean...first off, they were literally invented to help kids who go through puberty too quickly and too soon (which is a very real thing that happens and is extremely uncomfortable and distressing for them). So, jot that down. Secondly, the effects of puberty blockers are completely reversible. There is no long-term damage done to them. That's why it's safe to prescribe them to children of a certain age for gender affirming care. Like, if your concern is that it will hurt them - it will not. They can change their minds at any time and they will be fine and if it's not for gender reasons and it's for early onset puberty reasons, then yes...they very much do need those. The reason why we know this is for the reason I mentioned above - we know how they work because this is how doctors treat early onset puberty. Once they get to a more appropriate/comfortable age to undergo puberty with minimal discomfort and distress according to their age range, then they can just stop taking the blockers and they'll be fine. So the reality is that there's nothing to worry about. They're fine. It's reversible with no permanent long-lasting damage. It's fine.
I repeat, when you're told to evacuate from a fire, grab what you can and leave! You might think you have time but traffic is a thing! The town I worked at during the 2020 LNU fires had to evacauate and a commute that normally takes 12 minutes took three hours to leave! Everything was on fire, from the mountains in the distance to the railing four feet from me. If they say "You gotta leave", don't assume it's something you can put off until the last second!
As a tribesman living in Oklahoma, I don't see the issue with the girl getting the tattoo. In many of the native tribes around the world (including mine), a mark (tattoo) is received as part of the Rite of Passage ritual for becoming a naturalized adult (entering puberty). That age ranges from 9 to whenever they start. This is a common practice around the entire world. My only concern was the fact that she wanted the face of Trump on her body. Why not the Turkish flag since they were from Turkey? Or better yet, why not some design incorporating both American and Turkish flags as she is part of two groups now?
This is the take I was looking for. When Phil first described the situation I was thinking that this was some rich white family. And that would be sad enough, that a little girl is being brought up in an environment where she sees this disgusting , hateful old man as a hero, but to hear that the family is Turkish... I'm glad that the artist managed to convince her to get something a little less "Trump worship-y" for when the family realises that they're trying to align themselves with the Leopards-eating-faces party.
As a Turk myself I cringed super hard when I heard Phil say that they were from Turkey however they may not be necessarily Turkish. There are many refugees/immigrants who obtained citizenships after some time and they use Turkey as a spring board to move to Europe or NA. Kurds also do this a lot but most of the time they prefer to go to Europe. Most Turks don't get tattoos themselves and don't like them let alone allowing them on their underage children. Even if they are it is very uncommon and would mean the family are just a bunch of nutjobs.
If it turns out the LA fire’s been caused by PGnE, I vote we dissolve them as a company. The videos remind me of the horror of the Paradise fire, and frankly they should have been dissolved because of that alone.
I really don’t understand the freak out with the tattoo. It’s legal, it only impacts the girl who gave approval with her parents, and it can be removed if she hates it later. People need to calm down.
It's just outright crazy how we went from having so much rain in the past year to now going through a big drought but then again, N Cal has been reporting a lot of flooding while so Cal has been a drought ever since. This is just reminding me that wildfire disaster at the town of Paradise and seeing we are getting a 4th wildfire. I am getting flashbacks to those big ol fires from San Diego from a Decade ago.
Not to mean but why are people doing cookouts or making fires when its so windy that it was pushing cars on the freeway. I was driving out there and there was so many car accidents yesterday.
People have this stupid idea that nature doesn't affect them. My neighbor burned our duplex down when she burned cardboard 5 feet away from the dividing wall. It was 95, dry and the wind was blowing towards the fence.
As an Australian who's country is regularly on fire, I have advice for others who don't regularly see bushfires. 1. Just pack up and leave. No property is worth your life or the life of your family. Ever. Don't listen to people who boast their machismo about preparing to defend their land with a Walmart garden hose and a bucket. You will lose, you will die. There is no shame in chosing life. 2. Leave EARLY. When you know a bush fire is close, or the weather prevents a high risk, pre-emptively pack important stuff into your car like food, water, photos and documents. Bushfires can make their own wind and move unpredictably. They can blow embers *miles* ahead of them, can advance miles per minute, and will steer themselves. If you cannot fit everything important in your car, bury it. Wrap it in tarp, bury it several feet deep. 3. If you have nowhere to flee to like family out of state or a hotel, find a large body of water. A lake, a river, a water tank. (Preferably one that's not home to alligators, but if there's a fire right there beggars can't be choosers). Just dive right in, keep as much of yourself submerged as you can as often as you can, either just having your lips above water, or dive and resurface. You will have to wait here for potentially hours for a bushfire to pass you. 4. Listen to the authorities. I hate cops too, but emergency service workers have information you do not. If they same time to go, it's time to go, no questions. See point one. God bless and good luck to those who are staring down the LA fires.
The thing is we have all those same exact warnings and advice. California even sends firefighters down to Australia to help with fires. But people still refuse to believe that taking action to prevent risk is something they should do. Granted I understand that it's in fact january, our winter and we're supposed to get rain during our Winters and is not supposed to be this warm, dry and windy. But the fact that someone who knows buyers are a thing in California because they're in the backyard they start a fire! The newscast knows when the infamous Santa Ana winds come rolling along. Contact for those who don't know what they are, the weather pattern shifts and we get the warm dry air from the desert versus the cooler ocean air. And the wind is fast, at 100 mph, 120 kph. So those deaths for the Pacific Palisades fire and all that destruction could have been prevented if someone didn't light a fire during the worst possible time. The other fires can be started with just the static electricity generated from all this dry air. But it's too soon to figure out the exact cause if the person who caught their backyard on Fire doesn't call 911.
@doglover1neo it's the bane of all Australians when some entitled idiot who thinks they know better lights a fire on a total fire ban day. We absolutely call in the fire department who hate these people even more who then boot stomp through their house and flood that fire just to prove a point.
The fires in Los Angeles are things we always here about what could happen to only have it happen. I just talked to a friend that been in the hospital fighting from an infection to only find he lost everything in the fire. He lost his Brother, Father and Home...no one should have to go through that or experience that.
Insurance agent in Southern California here. I can confirm, over the past year many carriers have stopped providing coverage altogether. The California Fair Plan is not a fun insurance company to work with. You can’t even get coverage formally bound until an inspector has physically come out to your location. Not to mention the pricing! I have had to give so many customers bad news on their latest coverage renewals. Not a lot of happy campers. But I’m sure they’re all happy to have coverage now. Not looking forward to the possible influx of claim submission in the next few days.
Wow, I can’t believe I finally did it. I never would have guessed I’d have such a niche perspective on a story on Phil’s show. This was the moment my entire life was leading up to. I have served my purpose.
I really appreciate your approach to the news. I was trying to explain media literacy to someone and used one of your videos as a perfect example of hearing all sides of a new story. He was like why don't all news places do that, and I was like cuz they get paid to say what they say.
Girlfriend of mine got a tattoo when she was young. It was her medical alert because she kept losing the bracelet. She still has no regrets 25 years later.
I’m in LA and last night the winds blew down a tree and caused a transformer to explode a few blocks over. Thankfully crews put out the small fire before it could become another big fire. It’s been 24 hours and we still don’t have power but thankfully we’re safe from the fires for now. The winds are absolutely insane though. I’ve only seen winds like this out in the flat areas of Fontana. Stay safe everyone!

I heard someone mention there was a wildfire and didn't think anything of it-- that's how common they are here in SoCal; I've lived here all my life-- but then experiencing the violent winds and watching the livestream news coverage on the scene-- the sheer height and intensity of the flames, the pitch-black plumes of smoke-- nature disintegrated, homes and cars melted away, horses needing to be led to safety, elderly folks in wheelchairs needing specialized rescue, people who survived but were still visibly shaken, holding back tears in their eyes-- it was heartbreaking, absolutely heartbreaking

As a tattooist, I can tell you that tattooing a nine year old is crazy work.... but if it's legal in the state he lives in with parental consent then, let me be honest with you, it would be him or any one else in the state that would do it. My morals aside, its probably best that he did it and not someone that would mangle their skin. Red white and blue are super easy to cover up so this persons life and skin are probably safe. We got to choose our battles wisely and remember THE PARENTS ALLOWED this to happen and because of the laws it's technically none of our business.
As someone from a reddish state who has lived in LA for nearly a decade, it’s been really disheartening to see all the vitriol in regards to the fires. Yes, a lot of wealthy folks have been impacted, and they have the resources to rebuild and recover. First of that, that doesn’t mean it it isn’t a tragic and traumatic event. And second of all, countless people who are not wealthy and don’t have those kind of options are devastated by this too. Not to mention the wildlife that’s been destroyed. This isn’t left vs. right. Lives have been destroyed by this. The purposefully poisonous snd provocative words being slung our way has been really hard to witness.

Being in LA right now has been insanity this week.. Crime wise too, with break-ins, looting houses, attacks / assaults.. Bur also people reporting random fires all over town, down wires and trees, people stuck or injured all over town.. It’s utter insanity 😢
Hearing about the outrage of a 9 year old getting a tattoo, while knowing there is at least one Christian denomination that requires tattooing children on their wrist before they are 2 years old. It doesn't matter that it's a cultural practice. It is body modification/mutilation done without the child's consent. Piercings, circumcision, tattoos, all of it should have a minimum 1 year waiting period, after a child can understand and ask for it multiple times. Surgical procedures for medical reasons should be between a doctor and their patient and guardians.
I would be very careful grouping circumcision in with all of that stuff. I’m not saying I disagree with you, only to be careful which cultural practices you speak against.
I mean if you need the parents' permission there's already a subtle acknowledgement that the child can't make that decision for themselves so you shouldn't be doing anything permanent to kids
@@benunder50 FGM is a cultural practice as well, yet everyone should be speaking up about it. I do not care what culture you come from, modifying your childs body without consent is horrific, wrong and can lead to severe issues later in life.
Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t bring myself to care too much about the tattoo. Should she have gotten it? No. Should the parents and tattoo artist maybe stepped in more? Yeah, probably. But that’s kinda where my thinking ends. I only have so much energy to use, and I can’t bring myself to waste it on a story that at the end of the day isn’t going to really affect anything in the world

This is exactly what I was going to comment.
He can pay rent at a tattoo shop, his bills are likely well paid; he didn't need to do this.
exactly. the artist hates it, the audience hates it, but everyone knows it was the most harm-reductive choice.

Its not eucalyptus trees. It's dry conditions

@djadelaney that's awful ... I know we aren't the only ones. I'm so sorry about your family. It isn't fair.
That’s awful. Someone has their eye on their property. If it’s not some corporation it’s the government. You can own your own property, but if you can’t pay the tax (that the government decides the $$) you’ll lose your home too.
Vote for politicians that will manage the area and land around you to better protect your assets.
Welcome to the side effects of not building any homes for 30 years and prices shooting through the roof.
Look if her parents are willing to let that happen, if he said no they would've just found someone that would say yes and they might not have the conscious to try to change the tattoo at all
That's a good point
My thoughts exactly. Im against tattoos on children, I actually wanted to get a cross tattooed on my leg with my dads permission when i was 16. THANK GOD my state doesn't allow anyone, even with parents permission, to get tattoos until 18. With that said, I think I would have done the same thing if I was the artist. Especially since the parents where willing to pay so much money, and the law allows it, some scum bag definitely would have just agreed to tat the portrait on her if he turned her down. He did her a kindness by talking her down to the american flag and getting her to just stick to that.
Yeah, when someone pays go away money it's hard to say no.

Or he could have just said “no” altogether. Like most people would.

We ended up running for 4 hours straight while watching the planes dropping FR. Forest fires are no joke, PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO BURN NOTICES.

I’m upset with both. Sure the parents are terrible, but the business owner could easily refuse the service.
@Ironcorgi2 and then the parents would have gone elsewhere, and their kid would have likely gotten Trump on their neck.
Everyone in SoCal....PLEASE BE SAFE. It is something we're used to here but just BE SAFE
Agree completely. I'm down the road in San Diego and in our two worst wildfires my employer told everyone to stay home, and that was before we really were set up to work at home.
Open concept floor plans are extremely popular now and they burn even faster because of that.

As an Australian after 2019 fires - those fires are nightmare fuel.
Stay safe people...
I was looking for something like this, thank you. All excellent points.
Tattooing a child is barbaric. Whether they want it or not. Tradition is dogshit and not an excuse, normalizing stupidity is not good.
You are comparing a spiritual/religious practice to getting a tattoo of a politician (or flag as it ended up being)?
I miss the Couch in the background
Same dude, same

JD Vance misses it too

If it turns out the LA fire’s been caused by PGnE, I vote we dissolve them as a company.
The videos remind me of the horror of the Paradise fire, and frankly they should have been dissolved because of that alone.
I really don’t understand the freak out with the tattoo. It’s legal, it only impacts the girl who gave approval with her parents, and it can be removed if she hates it later. People need to calm down.
This
It's just outright crazy how we went from having so much rain in the past year to now going through a big drought but then again, N Cal has been reporting a lot of flooding while so Cal has been a drought ever since. This is just reminding me that wildfire disaster at the town of Paradise and seeing we are getting a 4th wildfire. I am getting flashbacks to those big ol fires from San Diego from a Decade ago.
Isn't that because last year was El Niño and this year is La Niña?
Not to mean but why are people doing cookouts or making fires when its so windy that it was pushing cars on the freeway. I was driving out there and there was so many car accidents yesterday.
That's not mean at all
People have this stupid idea that nature doesn't affect them. My neighbor burned our duplex down when she burned cardboard 5 feet away from the dividing wall. It was 95, dry and the wind was blowing towards the fence.
Because they’re stupid
So they defunded the fire department and funded the police, more? Recently? And then this happened?
We are praying 🙏 here in the south 😔
The fires in Los Angeles are things we always here about what could happen to only have it happen. I just talked to a friend that been in the hospital fighting from an infection to only find he lost everything in the fire. He lost his Brother, Father and Home...no one should have to go through that or experience that.
Phil just said theres only two deaths but i think its much higher unfortunately
I have served my purpose.
this is true. my aunt just lost everything in alta dena they had to get insurance for the house through an agency in the fucking UK.
The california unfair plan isn't very fair.
I really appreciate your approach to the news. I was trying to explain media literacy to someone and used one of your videos as a perfect example of hearing all sides of a new story. He was like why don't all news places do that, and I was like cuz they get paid to say what they say.
LOOOOL 😂 hahahahhahahahahahahaha phil neutral LOOLOLOOLOLOL
Girlfriend of mine got a tattoo when she was young. It was her medical alert because she kept losing the bracelet. She still has no regrets 25 years later.
I’m in LA and last night the winds blew down a tree and caused a transformer to explode a few blocks over. Thankfully crews put out the small fire before it could become another big fire. It’s been 24 hours and we still don’t have power but thankfully we’re safe from the fires for now. The winds are absolutely insane though. I’ve only seen winds like this out in the flat areas of Fontana. Stay safe everyone!
I just hope the smelt are safe
Thank you for including how other news sources are covering events, it really does make a difference
If that little girl and her parents were ok with her getting a tattoo, and he tried what he could to dissuade them. People are jumping to hate him and everyone involved, the only ones in the wrong are the people who this situation upsets
As a not edit addition, her wanting a trump tattoo is a problem
The parents are also in the wrong for allowing their NINE year old to get a tattoo
@heylookitstay4857 kids will never learn if you don't allow them to make choices
@@lathanchurch8352lol no
The parents were obviously the reason why she wanted it in the first place

Phil, I love it when you cover multiple sides of a story. It makes me trust you more than the mainstream media.
Backyard fire with Santa Ana winds....
Media warned about this all day and here we are...
I think everyone is generally on the same page that tattooing a 9 year oldv is not something that should happen. Kinda on the side of the tattoo artist saying that there should be more regulation if everyone is going to say that it was unethical and wrong
I'm in Long Beach for a convention. As our plane landed in LAX, so many phones started going off with the emergency alert tone. You couldn't see LA at all while we descended with how thick the smoke is.
Phil, you are my primary news source, not because you cover everything with complete non-bias, but because you make it easy to keep learning. I'm one of the people that follows the links and wants to learn more, but you are my launch pad. Thank you for that.
Dude is bias bro lol always republican are bad but I won’t cover the bad democratic stuff. Open your eyes
He is openly biased, he has literally talked about how this is a bubble of people. Never trust a single news source to not be biased because humans are always biased.
Phil is biased, its almost impossible for any form of media consumed to not have a bias

On the tattoo story, tattooing is one of the oldest forms of artistry and has so much culture significance to a plethora of historical cultures across the globe. I think we need to dial it back on that, and I personally think the artist handled it the best way possible
Turns out stupid is a universal trait.
With the south Korea situation.
The guy called for martial law, because he was going to lose. And people still support him?
Absolute madness, but nothing surprises me in politics these days 🤦♂️
The Russian disinformation machine is at work. US news outlets don’t typically employ fully bilingual journalists (they can get much better jobs in business as simultaneous translators) so they probably aren’t talking to the actual protesters. I’d bet you $100 they have EXACTLY the same transphobic homophobic xenophobic pedophile obsessed satanic panic style rhetoric as both Qanon and the bolsonaristas. They probably believe in adrenochrome and the cabal too. It’s some sort of botnet employed by… someone? (putin) to destabilize countries. You can’t see where it is but you can see where it’s been because it makes stupid people all rant about the exact same topics, despite being in totally different language groups.
Sometimes, America makes it hard to love her.
Can we just take a second to talk about how utterly bizzare it is that a 9 year old wanted a Trump tattoo? Yet another example of "protect the kids from politics....unless of course they're conservative politics."
What a farce.
i have a feeling it wasn't her idea
SO your thoughts on transing kids?
I think the crazier part is they arent even citizens. Usually people in other countries dislike trump.
I have noticed you’ve been a less biased lately when covering politics and I really appreciate it. Even though ima die hard liberal I want to make my own opinions when it comes to the news
Phil has never been “less biased” he’s always bias

I live in Pasadena and my home is fortunately fine for now and not under mandatory evacuation, but many of my friends have had their houses reduced to ash already. We had to leave our house because it’s old and drafty and the smoke fumes were seeping through. Stay safe y’all
As a tattooist, I can tell you that tattooing a nine year old is crazy work.... but if it's legal in the state he lives in with parental consent then, let me be honest with you, it would be him or any one else in the state that would do it.
Thank you. This has been my experience as well seeing comments on press conferences for Pasadena and I just... I don't understand how folks don't have sympathy for their fellow man...
@@benunder50 both male and female circumcision.
@benunder50 Why? It's body mutilation. Just bacuse it's a "Cultural Practice" doesn't change the fact it is body mutilation and really fucking weird.
Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t bring myself to care too much about the tattoo. Should she have gotten it? No. Should the parents and tattoo artist maybe stepped in more? Yeah, probably. But that’s kinda where my thinking ends. I only have so much energy to use, and I can’t bring myself to waste it on a story that at the end of the day isn’t going to really affect anything in the world
Phil, give us a “Fire Alarm Warning” next time!! My dog freaked out😂
My cat did too, and she was halfway up the other side of the house!
It’s a trigger for me too! 😭
Invest in earbuds.
My dog freaks out too, when the smoke alarm goes off. Even if it just chirps. Between the ear piercing waiil of the alarm, and the LOUD barking of my #140 dog, I don't think I'm going to sleep through a fire!!!!
I understand that there is a lot of outrage at a minor getting something permanently done to their bodies... Hmmm sounds familiar though...I wonder what other permanent things are being done to the bodies of minors that we should all be outraged about..... Anyone?
The situation in LA is tragic, I hope for people to be safe
Didn't Joe Rogan say last year that he talked to a firefighter back when he lived in LA who told him all it would take is a fire and the right wind and LA is just fucked...damn guess he was right.
