I am a female combat vet who served as a combat medic and FET member in Afghanistan. I have a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. When I was with my infantry unit, I passed a male standard PT test, doing more pushups than some of the guys in my company. It is disgusting and disgraceful the things Hegseth has said regarding the women who went before me, fought beside me, and have come after me. I fear he will destroy all the progress we have made for women in combat back decades. When I was injured in combat, the soldiers next to me treated the most injured soldier first, as they should have. I was a soldier and a medic to them, not a female, not a woman, not a lesser being. As a funeral director, what happened to the Beehler and Wells families is what keeps me up at night. I am so horrified that that situation could happen so easily. Best practice is to have the family confirm their loved ones identity, and I am so relieved every time a family chooses to view their loved one, especially before a cremation takes place.

I would imagine they know how they're voting ahead of time. I can imagine a situation where they're facing several delays, looks like no vote, they're at a restaurant or something. Go in, hit the button, or w/e. I trust they can remember y/n, and have zero chance of killing anyone with heavy equipment voting w a buzz. The school bus comparison isn't appropriate. A better comparison, I do maintenence at a bar and grill. If I come to work drunk, I won't be. If I'm at the bar as a patron and there's an unexpected sink failure, I go fix it assuming it's a simple job.
I'm a caregiver for a 93 yr old blind and mostly deaf lady who lives near the Hurst fire. I learned after returning to work (I was displaced by Eaton) that her elderly facility lacked an evacuation plan. The family hasn't yet put together a plan or go-bag for her. I'm not relating this to shame people. I'm giving this example of at risk disabled people falling through the cracks. Please if you have at-risk pets or separate-dwelling family members, make a plan for them and share it with anyone who might need to render service in a critical situation like this.
As someone who tries really hard to watch news from many different places (even Fox and Sky news (Australias Fox)), I love hearing you talk about the other headlines and what both sides of the media are saying. There was a time that was what all news channels did, but we are long past that. To be fair, Canada and Mexico provided additional firefighters, and equipment that will go back to the respective countries afterwards. The US government is also providing these same resources to California already. It's moreso additional funds to build back after the fires are dealt with that Trump said is conditional.

I’m a truck driver in the Southern California area, and this morning I was driving to Palm Springs where the wind was blowing quite a bit, and I just happened to see the start of a fire in Beaumont on the side of the freeway . It genuinely made me worry that if this blew up into a big fire, it wouldn’t matter as much as the fires in LA. I hope that people understand that all of Southern California is in danger right now. Please be safe.

9:34 Something similar happened to friends of my parents in 2023. The hospital called the husband saying his wife flat-lined and asking if they should stop compressions. He said to stop, and for a couple hours he thought his wife was dead. Then he gets a call saying they messed up the room numbers and that his wife was alive. So he told the hospital to stop resuscitation on a random person. Don’t know what happened after that, but he never got in trouble at least. Hospitals really need to get it together…
Recently a doctor at a hospital told me I had terminal cancer, even though I felt fine. Long story short, I was hospitalized and the they find out I was fine and they made the wrong call. I am so pissed off and glad at the same time (if that even makes sense). You don’t even know. 😠

As a funeral director, what happened to the Beehler and Wells families is what keeps me up at night. I am so horrified that that situation could happen so easily. Best practice is to have the family confirm their loved ones identity, and I am so relieved every time a family chooses to view their loved one, especially before a cremation takes place.

I'm a caregiver for a 93 yr old blind and mostly deaf lady who lives near the Hurst fire. I learned after returning to work (I was displaced by Eaton) that her elderly facility lacked an evacuation plan. The family hasn't yet put together a plan or go-bag for her. I'm not relating this to shame people. I'm giving this example of at risk disabled people falling through the cracks. Please if you have at-risk pets or separate-dwelling family members, make a plan for them and share it with anyone who might need to render service in a critical situation like this.
At least she has a path to safety, unlike the people who froze in their homes during the 2021 Texas power crisis. Thanks to bad republican policies.

9:34 Something similar happened to friends of my parents in 2023. The hospital called the husband saying his wife flat-lined and asking if they should stop compressions. He said to stop, and for a couple hours he thought his wife was dead. Then he gets a call saying they messed up the room numbers and that his wife was alive. So he told the hospital to stop resuscitation on a random person. Don’t know what happened after that, but he never got in trouble at least. Hospitals really need to get it together…

Recently a doctor at a hospital told me I had terminal cancer, even though I felt fine. Long story short, I was hospitalized and the they find out I was fine and they made the wrong call. I am so pissed off and glad at the same time (if that even makes sense). You don’t even know. 😠

In what world should it be legal for someone to be taken off of life support AND have all their final arrangements made without having any power of attorney or agent present to identify? Absolute negligence on the hospital's and funeral home's part!
