@@TheGebs24 I appreciate you Gem, your unearthing stuff from my 20's (48 now, am I your oldest subscriber?). I try to feedback anything useful. My best gaming years were 95-98. The range of games on Saturn, PS1 and N64 was just magnificent and never bettered. I bought probably 100 games in those years alone and nothing has come close. I rarely buy more than 10 games per generation now, not into most cinematic games. I want that frenetic AAA gameplay back none of this wait 35 mins for the next gameplay area.
I wouldn't be without my 3DO, I have the Goldstar version... It wasn't even a console that I intended to buy, but I won a bundle in 'Ultimate Future Games' magazine for writing the star letter and I still own that very same unit to this day.... It's a pretty awesome machine! I love Return Fire, Killing Time, PO'ed, Samurai Shodown and the best 32bit version of SSF2T! Nice video, some games for me to look out for there!
It’s nice to see someone giving the 3do respect instead of slagging it off. Apart from the more obvious titles my favourites were Demolition man and Return Fire. Hope you found time to play these since making the video. Thanks for uploading and bringing back some memories.
I really liked the Wing Commander games back in the day and specially Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger, the 3DO version of that one is highly regarded. I was really impressed by those FMV games back in the day and thought this would be more the future for movies being interactive then consider it video games. More like a movie where the director could make multiple story branches where you could choose/influence how the story progressed and offering re-watch value as in making different choices on a next sitting. Canon Fodder was a game I played tons on a MS-DOS PC and loved it's humor.
I've been the proud I owner of a 3d0 since 1994 ,of course I've been through a few. Best and most reliable one to get is the Japanese fz10...nice camera angle by the way !!!
3DO log boxes were unique when the console was released, and was a nice touch at the time. It allowed for longer instruction manuals, etc. Too bad they don't age too well if not stored properly.
I played 3DO Road Rash from September 94 right until Dec94 when I picked up the PS1. At the time, without knowing much about most of these games coming from the Amiga I didn't buy many games as they were expensive and quiet hard to find new. In fact in my local town of Bedford the only stockist of 3DO PAL games was a Panasonic TV dealer. For the record, 99% of games work on NTSC machines and the borders are all gone and games run at the correct speed. I bought a PAL 3DO but swapped it in 94 as someone wanted rid of a NTSC machine which requiring an NTSC compatible TV at the time meant they couldn't easily sell it. But for me, I'd just go and upgrade my TV. I still have my 3DO to this day with about 10 games, no ambition to increase the collection. You should replace those cases though. For a couple of quid its easily done.
Gemma, don’t be fooled by the covee art, the 3DO Fifa was a unique version. It was the first time EA attempted a 3D version. The 3DO FIFA looks and plays different to all others.
Great story Gemma about Bullfrog and raiding bins:) I was lucky enough to be a play tester for them a long time ago when Syndicate Wars and Theme Hospital were being developed for the PS1/PC (great memories of that:) All the best.
Hello great video and love the room I'm looking at making a retro gaming area 😀 My biggest wonder was Sega saturn always wanted one so bad but never ever played one ⭐
For the record. Total Eclipse and Shock Wave are 2 3D shooters on the 3DO. Total Eclipse came with my 3DO. Return Fire is a top down shooter. I bought it because everytime I went into the Panasonic Dealer TV shop the staff were playing it during quiet periods and laughing and shouting across the store. It is a very nice game. I found most enemies are a bit too close when they come on screen but the soundtrack is awesome and the gameplay is top notch. Worth picking up.
From my recollection the big cases are all USA region games. I think there were 1 or 2 PAL games in the big cases but most of them would be USA games. In the store I went to, almost all 3DO games were in double CD cases. ALL USA games used the big cases. Probably a marketing move as in the day 3DO would take up very little shelf space in stores as there were only a few games out for a long period of time. In 94 when it came out SNES and Genesis would have taken up the whole store.
Great collection Gemma! There was Slayer 2 / Deathkeep which I enjoyed more than the first. Also recommend checking out Need For Speed, Phoenix 3 and Powers Kingdom.
You’re smashing it at the moment Gem, the content has been bang on! My only critique would be your branding, it’s a bit inconsistent but other than that, you’re doing amazing 👊 one of the best in the UK! 🇬🇧
TheGebs24 the feel overall you’ve got going is great! But you fluctuate with different assets a lot. Sometimes it’s a little off putting as one video it’s there (you’ll have a comic book style transition) and then the next you’re using something completely different. It’s not major, just with some of the bigger youtubers I watch & design for, people notice and enjoy a ‘uniform’ design
@@rngraphics Have to disagree. The transitions always suit the nature of the video for me. I'd be bored with the same ones every time. Every RUclipsr is unique, so I don't think Gems should look to mirror others at all.
Completely agree with you on so many things in this video. I think with handed like Cannon Fodder and Syndicate, they both really need to be played on a system with a mouse, as that's the control scheme they were designed for. While you CAN play them with a d-pad, they never seem to work as well - I think it's because you don't have the fluidity of movement. Both the Snes and Mega Drive versions of Cannon Fodder are compatible with the mouse for those systems, but sadly none of the console versions of Syndicate are mouse-compatible, which is real shame. If you give Syndicate a go on the Amiga, you might find it's much improved than playing using a controller. Cannon Fodder would work brilliantly on modern consoles if it was made as a twin stick shooter with one stick controlling direction and the other controlling aim. I don't know if it's stuck in rights hell at the moment, but it wouldn't surprise me. Another World came out before Flashback, and isn't actually part of the same series - they just happened to have a similar animation style and the same publisher - but other than that, they have no connection. Another World does have a Mega CD sequel , called Heart of the Alien, which includes the original game. I loved Flashback on the Amiga, but it's control scheme leave a lot to be desired. It can be very difficult getting the character to do what you want him to do. If it had been more context sensitive, I think that would have made it much easier. I always found Wing Commander an excellent and engaging game - but in my opinion only feels right when played with an analogue joystick
It's funny that on the Space Hulk advertisements I could read "Hulk copyright Marvel comics" whereas the characters had nothing to do with the MCU. I don't know about other countries but the Wing Commander series was highly regarded in France (Joystick magazine gave episodes 1 and 2 100%! Then Wing Commander III with Mark hamill starring in FMV sequences looked epic too). Not sure which episode the 3DO version is a port of, but it's probably very good. Virtuoso was panned by reviewers :) Super SFII Turbo was considered like the best port of the game for a while, very close to the arcade. Another World came before Flashback which uses similar animation technology, but that's all, the stories are different. The gameplay is simpler too, so you may prefer it to Flashback. For (first person) shooter, Wolfenstein 3D was a great conversion too.
Bummer, I'm 40 now and went looking for my old console. Turns out mum sat it on her garage sale table few years back. Bummer. Had Myst, Road Rash, Golf, Road Rash. All went for 25 bucks. I could cry.
