      I often agree on the faked restore claims, but not this time. There was age-shade ghosting in the finish where the bad paint job was scratched off prior to the cleanup, which would have been a lot of work to fake. I might be wrong, but faking usually does not go to that length of detail. I like the video, because I try and rescue trashed guitars for the fun of it. I've cleaned off graffiti and oversprays before, and what I see here makes sense, if done carefully.

    • @rivalmindss

      these guitars look like they've been done up for certain genres for music where black white and red are popular color combos. also from my experience of painting my first bass guitar i ever had to look more "punk". also many late night scrollings through Reverb I dont question the legitimacy of these guitars.

    • @stephencook7720
      @stephencook7720 Год назад

      @@alexxmaestro Yes, it can look suspicious, but I've removed bad paintovers in a similar manner. I first removed terrible grafitti from a Soviet Elta bass because the original paint was extremely tough. Some ghost patterns still were visible because I used a removal compound that was too harsh, and worked on it too roughly. The last overpaint I removed was both paint and permanent marker on a Jolana Iris bass with badly checked finish. With a milder cleaning compound, the marker and overpaint was removed, without destroying or further damaging the checked finish underneath. Knowing what to use and how to use it is the key, also how tough is the original finish, and what will damage that.

      He obviously just slapped some water soluble paint all over it and cleaned it off. This video is a blatant scam

    • @rindred
      @rindred Год назад +10

      @@uv77mc85 Considering that some of the stains were under the finish, the only way that happens is that part of the paint has to be nitrocellulose. Nitro paint and clear merge into one layer because of the shared compound base.
      Of course, it could be that it was partially painted and the body faded some of the finish in sunlight while another paint was on top, but not totally covering the primary finish. And that paint could easily be water-based acrylics.
      If you assume that people don't use water-based acrylics when personalizing guitars, I suggest you look up a fellow by the name of George Harrison who once painted his Strat with water-based acrylics.

    • @uv77mc85
      @uv77mc85 Год назад +3

      @@rindred Ive been a guitar dealer for many years and i have never seen a home painted guitar where the paint just easily wiped off to leave a pristine original finish underneath. It looks fishy as fk. And I am pretty sure George stripped that strat first. I don't know what you mean about stains under the finish. OBG use a nitro finish.

    • @rindred
      @rindred Год назад +7

      George didn't strip the Strat from all I've read about it. I've been refinishing my own guitars, and it's easily possible to paint over an existing paint job without having to get down to bare wood. If you want it to look nice (a big if), you have to scuff the existing finish so there's mechanical grab for the new paint to hold on. Usually, it's better to do nitro over poly this way because you only have to scuff the clear and not remove the poly color underneath to make it work.
      If you put something like enamel or some kind of water-based acrylic over an existing finish, it's not going to stick in a nice way, flaking off from rubbing against your arm and whatnot. A body that has some wear/dings will at least have a little "grab" for paint to stick. This is why I think this guitar was some rank amateur's customization who deliberately gave it a rough look. I bet it was peeling and chipping like mad in the places it didn't stick to.
      The staining on the body under the clear of the original ivory nitro (visible in the final product even after the cleaning) is either due to color fading due to the paint on top of the finish causing the absorption of light to age it differently, or at least some of the paint the original owner sprayed on it was nitro paint like the OBG was painted in. Colored nitro paint/clear coat will chemically bond any additional coats sprayed on top of it. That's how touch-up paint pens for nitro paint jobs work - they will leech through the clear to restore the color underneath.

    Who keeps doing this to all these guitars over in Japan... Can he or she be stopped?

    Been wondering how much rubber glove been used for just 1 guitar. LOL. Just kidding.
    I love your works. So satisfying and neat!!
    Just a some suggestion. Hope you can translate for liquid or material that used for the cleaning works.
    But anyway, lots of love from Malaysia ❤😊

    I really like your videos. I'm a luthier also. And I learn a lot of different stuff. Thank you.
