Slept on guitar for heavy music in 2021? Ibanez RGIXL7 Demo and Review

  • It's always escaped me why there were barely any reviews on this guitar out there! Hopefully this review can inform you on what this guitar is capable of and if it's right for you. I definitely struggled to get used to it but I'm totally in love with it now. I forgot to touch on this in the review but it might be a little bit overkill if what you're playing is mostly in Drop A / Standard 7 tuning, but maybe that's why this thing has gone so unnoticed. I mean I suppose it could work out with lighter gauge strings (I'm running .011-.058 Ernie Balls) but I haven't tested it in those tunings.
    Here's a link to the guitar on Sweetwater if you want to check it out yourself:
    www.sweetwater...
    I know the color grading is all over the place and I'm super awkward / scatterbrained while giving the review but I'd rather put this out there and improve later than just sit on it. Maybe I'll redo this video one day and talk like a normal person lol.
    But anyways I hope you liked the demo! Here's the gear I used:
    Guitar: #Ibanez #RGIXL7
    Bass: Washburn Taurus 4
    Amp sims: #NeuralDSP Nameless Suite and Line 6 Helix for bass
    Drum MIDI: GGD Modern and Massive
    Let me know if you'd like more of this type of stuff in the future! :^)

    Just got this guitar and with it being my first 7 string and baritone scale length guitar, I've honestly not had to adjust to the 7th, I feel like got used to the 7th string instantly! The way I thought of it when I played it was to play it as I would my 6, the only thing I'm adjusting to is the length and the size of the frets. But with all that in mind, I am absolutely over the moon with this guitar and I don't think I could go back to 6 strings for a while haha! Sick playing btw bro!

      I feel like 7 string doesn’t even really have that steep a learning curve. If anything it’s a mental block on the bigger string when you start out. Some people give it up just cuz they don’t wanna work through it. You can still do chords like normal on the low end on 7. But once you go 8, it’s a whole other world. I’ve seen people move on to 7 string with ease in a matter of a month or two. But 8 is where the challenge really starts. Especially if you go from 6 straight to 8.

    • @Epichicken
      @Epichicken  2 года назад +1

      Tuning stability is fantastic! As with any guitar make sure you set it up correctly and intonate it, but those Grover locking tuners hold things down! To hit Drop E on this 27 inch neck you should aim for an 8 string set (use every string except the highest) or any set that goes 0.080 gauge on the lowest string. I personally use the NYXL 8 string Custom Light set to hit E standard down one octave, so should be fine for Drop E.

The nut seemed like it was the wrong size and way too big, flaws in the paint, binding up the neck was split, fretwork was God awful and there were sharp frets all the way up the neck, the ebony fretboard was split from the 24th to the 12th and the cheap lumilay side dots were a joke and not lined up correctly. It had nickel frets. I was extremely disappointed and the fact it costed that much and I returned it and spent 400$ more and got the Jake Bowen signature 7 that felt like it had prestige quality fretwork and the quality was top notch.

    I've have bought one of these in a heartbeat if only it had a white Bound Neck and thin white-bound Head, Floyd Style Floating Trem, and a Gloss back body and headstock. ...
    The Satin Finish picks up human oil so easily and marks the body. Trying to remove the "Human oil" Smudge marks, you end up buffing the finish to shine .. then you're fucked because you can't go backwards!
    Satin-finishes suck in every case for this reason, and I've tried with many different colors over the years, Grey, Blue's etc to try n make them work and they just don't other than for a photo shoot right after being presented by the factory.
    If the specs alone are enough - BUY IT NOW because I don't expect Ibanez will offer this much more in the future, especially with a reverse HeadStock at that Scale Length now Dino has gone and they SHOULD have done this 10years ago .....
    But if you're really only into the finish with the reverse headstock for an Ibanez 7String DONT DO IT TO YOUR SELF!!! You'll only end up like one of the poor idiots who sunk a *STOOOPID* amount of money into the very limited edition Joe Satch "Chrome" Model in the late 90's only to watch the "Chrome" flake off.... within the next year ..

      If you're having trouble picking I would look at a comparison between the pickups themselves because I personally feel like that has the most impact on the sound. Wish you the best on your quest for tone!

      @synyster6297 3 года назад +2

      Be careful with solar guitars. Been hearing some bad things about them recently with fret board wood cracking during transit. Look up the solar discord page, apparently it’s not just something that happened to one or two of them. And as for differences, you’re getting betting quality control from Ibanez (imho) as well as a slightly longer scale (26.5 vs 27), coil tap, and branded locking tuners. If you’re debating between the two, the extra hundred for the Ibanez is well worth it
