- When I pack OCC shoeboxes, these essential items are what I add FIRST, followed by a WOW item and fillers! These essentials provide the foundation of my boxes. This packing process keeps things simple and more easily produces quality shoeboxes with a variety of items! 🎁

I always add a ball or jumprope to every box.
And a stuffie even if it’s small.

I'm what i call myslelf a filler smuggler. Every year i bring a bag of little extras like mini pop its, fidget toys, bouncy balls, etc small things that can always fit in somewhere. And i bring this bag to the back of the church were they have all the boxes and i take a bunch of them and add at least one extra little thing to the box, depending on how "good" the box already is and how much space is left. Even just a little extra joy means a lot to them.

I have also a couple of things I add to every shoebox. I am from Germany and we are allowed to send different items like toothpaste or shower gel as long as it is sealed in a plastic bag. So I always include a comb/brush, a toothbrush, toothpaste, a washcloth/magic towel, a bar of soap or shower gel, a bar of solid shampoo. For the 10-14 year old I add a roll- on too. For the school supplies I alwas add 2 notebooks (one with lines and one with squares), pencils, coloured pencils, a pencil pouch, a rubber and a sharpener. For the older kids I add a ruler, a set square and a compass too. Last but not least 1-2 pieces of clothing. The rest is a Wow-item (a plushie or a doll) and some toys in different sizes to fill all the little spaces in the box. That's what I send.

That's amazing and an understand of what the needs are! Good school supplies and personal care essentials! And then of course everything is fun and great! But yes yo everything you send, and in the USA they can replace the items they can't send with other essentials. When you send crayons or paper you need to think; how much time take my kids to get through this many crayons or pencils or paper at school. A toothbrush. So yes quality is so important, and the essentials must be really think through! Is fun to send toys and other things, but for kids that have nothing, a notebook for school and some pencils and pens, and all their essentials to get through the entire year is a joy. And they are also gonna share with the ones that have nothing.
A toothbrush, a hairbrush think of everything you get for granted, is magic! As magic as any toy! ❤😊

I love that! It was actually my #11 but I miscounted 😄❤ Stuffed animals are such a bringer of joy and comfort.
These are items we try to include in every box as well. Especially the school supplies!

I always put school supplies in a pencil pouch and a plush. The rest would depend on age. I always try a ball: pink bouncy kind or o ball, some sort of car, toothbrush, always use the OCC plastic box. Toddlers get a full size coloring book and other kids get a full size notebook. I used to do a drawstring bag. I just stopped feeling the need to. But I send the proper plastic box so don’t worry and I think the OCC cardboard in better condition of late.

@@KellysKidz having a hard time fitting what I bought so I’ll send what does not fit as fillers. Also got some extra beanie babies for fillers. They are all ages aren’t they. It’s so hard to pick as well so I got a boxful. I like the Aurora mini’s as well. A smaller plush a good size to add to a box that had something removed or half empty. Committing to a box is already $14 at hobby lobby with the shipping and the container. A person only doing boxes a couple years may not realize how much to ‘fill the box’. They think they gathered enough over 2 stores and spent a great deal of money but maybe the box could use a little more? After a while doing then you realize spend the money on a couple things, they are worth the real estate taking up the box. I’m doing 2-4’s and even they get school supplies. I don’t put in scissors ever though. Seems like they are really stressing to people to fill the box. I wonder if fillers won’t be necessary in a few years?
My tip is always using a soft toy it’s so key any of these kids don’t own one.
