I just hope that GM gets the message of the EUV’s popularity, and uses that body style in the future. I thought it was a goofy attempt at following popular trends until I sat in it. The low priced options for ventilated seats, and the extended rear seat room make it an outstanding choice for grocery getting/ work taxi duty. I own an Ice Blue Metallic Premiere base with no sunroof or SCruise. I have gotten as far as 200 miles with 60 miles still left on the guess-o-meter. I think it’s a perfect little car for little car duty. It’s not the fastest EV, but up until 85 mph- it’s plenty quick. Around town, it’s a hoot to drive, and personally, I get lower efficiency in town than I do on long trips to my parent’s house- because where I live you have to drive offensively or get bullied by speeding Suburbans with 28” wheels and jacked up F-150 4WDs. I’ve always solid Ford fan for 30 years, but as far as EVs go- I think GM is doing the best out of the domestic manufacturers. Just keep in mind, it is GM, they will screw it up eventually. All they need to do is focus on building EVs with passenger comfort in mind- more cabin room, ventilated seats, etc and keep the sales prices down and they will carve out a niche.
I really appreciate your straight forward no-nonsense reviews without the clickbait titles. I've had a Volt for almost 10 years now and its the best car I've ever owned. I've been waiting waiting waiting for the Equinox EV to appear... hopefully soon.
I’ve owned my Bolt EUV for almost a year now. Love the car overall, it’s been great. I have a Premier trim with Super Cruise and it works pretty well on long highway trips. Speaking of which, I’ve done a couple longer journeys from my home in Ohio to Washington DC and Northern Michigan. While faster charging would definitely be nice, it was still doable for those distances of 400-500 miles. Wouldn’t want to go coast to coast though. Highly recommend the EUV if you’re able to find one - most appear to be spoken for.
TY for another direct and practical review! If you seldom road-trip, this is a fantastic entry level EV! I bought an EUV (waiting for delivery) and it is perfect for my use case. I commute 92-100 miles per day on local and heavy traffic interstate roads. It’s a no brainer from a price point perspective ESPECIALLY when factoring in local and federal incentives. Unless the Equinox comes in close to 30k starting (it won’t ) , the Bolt name will be back to fill the void in the market that currently exists
Great review. As you said a shame if they truly get rid of the Bolt. Even given some of the Bolts early issues, Bolt drivers are some of the most enthusiastic out there.
Trrrific review! Just finished viewing 2 c.r. Reviews of new trax and evista and this little girl did a far better job of providing car info than they did on both combined.
Fantastic review‼️ I drove my Bolt Premier 65k miles in 2 years as an Uber driver. Fantastic around town car with great passenger space for such a small car. Drives like a dream and with the 360 bird's eye camera view and shorter wheelbase, more navigable than my new Model 3. The whole Bolt lineup are great 2nd cars, but impractical for road trips because of the slow charging.
I use my BOLT EUV to drive to Sacramento from San Jose weekly and LVL2 charge for a few hours and drive back. If I need to DCF it takes about 15-20 min to give me enough range to drive back to SJ.
Hope the Boltium will look more along the lines of the orange concept car. We know Ultium platform require more width, so the new Bolt will be wider. Competition will be stiff in the next 5 years for this price point. Especially when Fisker Pear enters the chat.
Another informative, thorough, articulate review from you, Lorraine! Y'know… I really like both models of the Bolt. I'd seriously consider one if it just offered AWD, more range, and faster DCFC charging. Frankly, I think it's a mistake for GM to discontinue it, as they could simply equip it with an Ultium battery. And with the transition to NACS, access to Superchargers would really help sell it. By the way, Callas is a truly beautiful dog… just like his master!
Tesla chargers are definitely not the way to go currently. The entire northwestern western part of PA is completely devoid of Tesla chargers save for Erie. There's enough CCS chargers to get by even with my Bolt. Down with NACS. And you don't need AWD unless you live in super brutal winters. The bolt does perfectly fine on a set of good winter tires.
The bolt and EUV are great cars and really the only good affordable options. I hope the bolt comes back on ultium otherwise there will be basically no options for a car ev aside from a model 3.
It looks like the Bolt will live on , thanks to the agreement between GM and UAW . But I should have commented on this video first , sorry for allowing myself to be distracted . This is a very good video that gives a lot of information on the Bolt euv . Most others are more like a commercial for the vehicle , so thumbs up from me , God bless America , go green and I'm out 🎭
I wonder what they'll replace the Chevy bolt EV with? Because I have a strong feeling there's going to be another Eevee that will replace it and rival the mustang Mach E.
Considering the vast majority of Chevy’s dealer network is ripping off the taxpayer by upping the price of these cars in the face of an ev rebate program with tacit approval from Chevy (they say they don’t control the dealers but also refuse to limit sales to bad actor dealers), I won’t buy any car from them ever again.
I love my EUV to death. It just eats up miles on long highway drives. I only wish they put a more powerful wireless charger in it since it can't keep up with android auto's power draw.
These are great if you keep a car 3-5 years. Problem is it's not a long-term vehicle. At some point north of 100,000 miles, you will need to replace the battery. Even the relatively small Bolt battery replacement runs about $17,000.
Hello, EVs are fantastic long term vehicles. Stay tuned for our upcoming annual maintenence video, one of the cars in the series has over 100,000 miles.
I was dumbfounded when I heard GM would discontinue the Chevy bolt?? This was a successful EV that’s been around since 2016. You may be right to think GM will bring back the Bolt. But, it is still difficult to understand why GM (which no longer has asuccessld icontinues the bolt). The Ford F150 is not in mass production; and unless truck people have changed over the last 15 years, they have no interest in EVs. They only want big trucks big & hi horsepower SUVs. What is GM and Ford thinking?
For most of its lifespan, the Bolt did not sell well and during the battery recall none were produced. That combined with the old tech make it an easy decision to stop making Bolts and convert the factory to make Silverado EVs.
It COST $23 DOLLARS to charge from 17% to 80%? That means a full charge is at least $30 dollars very close to a full tank for a small car in most states.i thought electric cars were cheaper to refuel 😂😂
Well it is now Aug 2023 and supposedly the Chevy Bolt is coming back, along with the 2024 Blazer and Equinox EV's. That said, i got tired of waiting for GM to do their thing with EV's - and I now have a Tesla 2023 model Y long range vehicle. I originally was going to get the latest Bolt EV 2 years ago, and then decided with the Equinox EV. But who knows when these will ever come out and what would be the wait times Plus I didn't want to buy from greedy dealerships. So Bye Bye GM. End of story.
GM's EVs are a bit of mess - it seems Ultium pack charging has major thermal problems and GM doesn't seem able to make Ultium cars in any significant volume. Too bad Bolt is being killed off, but it does need 100 kW (minimum) DCFC.
I am considering this. I was told by the person I would be dealing with said "no ADM's". I agree the Ultium platform needs to bake for a few years.@@barryw9473
Why do all you YT reviewers seem oblivious to the battery bottleneck? GM is planning on rolling out the Equinox and their truck within the next 6-12 months. Where do you think they’re getting the batteries for these? Did the battery fairy just say, ‘hey Chevy, here’s some batteries for an additional 50,000 vehicles’. No, no, sorry, the fairy set the extra capacity aside for Tesla. 😢. Once they get their battery manufacturing up and running, say, in another 3-4 years, they’ll bring the Bolt back and yes it will be using the second (or third) gen Ultium architecture.

Thats a odd charging curve, usually I can get at least 51-53kW at that same state of charge, then dipping in the 40s must be the heat.
I get 50-55kw pretty reliably from ~30-ish% up until 50%. The bolt doesn't like charging with a hot pack evidently.
