I saw Shirley MacLaine, in Sweet Charity & this little gal brings it all that back... brought some tears to my eyes... where has time gone..? Great Performance.
I've never before seen that number on stage without the Fosse/Verdon choreography, Sutton Foster breathed a lot of life into the role. She dazzled, but she deserved better choreography.
This is 1:38 of a once in a decade or more performance. Not one wasted, gratuitous moment by Sutton and this is true for the entire performance. She is a skilled actor, singer, dancer, comedienne at the top of her game.
I was lucky enough to see it in 2016. Both were great. It was so good I wanted to see it again but it was sold out for the rest of the run so glad we bought our tickets when we did. I wish they would have moved this to Broadway, it would have done great. Too bad they didn't do a cast recording or the entire song isn't on youtube
For everyone asking about the wig and costume it's meant to be terrible. It's not just the costumes, but everything in the production was purposefully made a lot shittier. The set is sparse and not convincing, the band is much smaller and not as big of a star in the music, the costumes are tacky, all of this I personally believe was done as a statement because this musical romanticizes this poor girl constantly being used by men and just suffering the whole way through. By taking out the fun spectacle of the show we can now truly see how shitty Charity is treated. Now that said it does mean that this version of the show is just plain not as fun to watch. Even with Sutton Fosters amazing talent as Charity, I don't know if I would be willing to pay for a show like this, even if it was done purposefully which I think is pretty cool. Sorry for the essay, it's just every comment on this video is the exact same complaint.
interesting perspective. I saw it... it was very disappointing. And depressing, which is what you allude to about how bad Charity is treated. i think that could still be conveyed with decent costuming and hair. Les Mis has costumes galore and yet we feel bad for Fantine and Epoine.

I saw it and I found it very entertaining and enjoyed very much, it wasn't a big Broadway show, it was a nice little intimate show and was very enjoyable.
It's funny how her role on *Bunheads* sort of predicted her singing this for an audience. Also, I agree with everyone else; that wig and outfit just takes me out of the show.
she's amazing! the costume and wig are literally the worst things she's ever worn on the professional stage i don't think the Oger fiona costume is uglier! she looks like a purple nurse in a cheep costume shop wig. its actually the first time she's ever looked like she's wearing a wig ever. She is one of the easiest women on broadway to dress she's a chameleon, and this look actually looks like a costume! its completely distracting from the performance. i watched 2x cuz the first time didn't really notice the dancing due to her appearance
Elphaboy totally agree! This is one of my favorite shows (and plays and movies) and although I get that the time period of it is a big part of it i was excited when i read that they were going in a more modern direction. Now I see this costume and I'm really confused. Sutton can do no wrong and I think she's perfect for the role but idk about this aspect of the revival.
yea its just too off the wall i feel like the hair style and the dress are competing for which is more "incorrect" as a design choice. so in this fight no one is a winner and sutton is the over-shadowed battle ground
You're not getting that these are the choices "Charity" would have made- the wig she would have chosen, etc. Gritty, nasty ,etc. like the original source material (Fellini's movie) . One of the other wigs she wears at the Fandango is different, more polished, some type of a French knot. These items are organic to the role and this production.
