I believe the main reason she won the tony is because she stepped out of her comfort zone to play a part that many thought was not right for her. Not only that but she played it her way and still manage to please many people during her run who had doubt. There can be only one ethel merman and patti is her own person, where sutton is far different then the two of them (thank God). Patina won for pippin, a far better musical then sister act. Let's be gratful for that and leave ms. Foster alone.
mmbr01rrf The "Unsinkable Molly Brown" may be one of the "irons in the fire" she recently hinted at. The owners wanted a revamp and finally persuaded Dick Scanlan and Michael Rafter to work on a new score from the Meredith Wilson oeuvre. It's already been staged in Denver with Kathleen Marshall directing and Sutton has done a reading with Mark Kudish.
walt1896 I knew that a revamp had been staged in Denver with Marshall directing but I didn't know Sutton had done the reading. A production with her as 'Molly' would be the answer to a prayer. Thanks for the info. I wonder if the Bunheads people would be interested in providing some backing ?
The way Daniel says "Anything Goes"..... Just adorable :) And how gracious Sutton is to Julien? So lovely. She is a rare down to earth gem in the theatre world
i love how she's proclaiming her love for her boyfriends at the time Christian in 2002 and Bobby in 2011 and you look back on it and it's funny that she ended marrying someone completely different XD
She was only divorced from Christian Borle a year, and then says here that she is happier in her life (and job) than she has ever been?! I feel a little bit sorry for Christian!
Same. I remember seeing this live and feel in love with her. I feel like I know her. Then got hooked on Younger. And saw her in the music man. A superstar
In general i m a Patti LuPone fan in Anything Goes BUT i must say that i was AMAZED by her speech... I dont know if there has been any other artist during her acceptance speech to try to promote someone who really loves instead of herself... She seems so so so honest and so modest! I wish the best for her and even more awards, and even more people admiring her and supporting her!
Watching her onstage live was akin to watching Bernadette Peters: a true comdienne, and a legend in the making. She is absolutely phenomenal, and I know that this is only the beginning for her. Bravo, Sutton Foster - you completely deserved this Tony!!
I like how a typical speech would be thank you to my family, friends, people who work with us, etc etc then walks away with just a smile on their face. Sutton made it orginal and charming by thanking her dresser! Love her wit!
She is the cutest thing ever. She had some VERY tough performers going against her, especially Miller for Sister Act. Sutton is so damn talented. Great role for her, great voice, great dancer, just great over all. She deserved the award :)
PBS Great Performances sent me here! I was 18 about to end my junior year of HS when Sutton gave this speech. And i regret not having seen her give this triple threat performance until now eleven years later.
...I seriously don't understand how anyone could hate on Sutton Foster. I think she is a beautiful, wonderful, sweet, and down to earth person - an enormously talented star - and deserves every award and critical acclaim she's received, and more.
Whaaaat is going on with all this hate?! If you don't like her, PLEASE just don't watch her videos? It's terribly upsetting for those of us who do. Imagine if the lady herself read these comments - from what I've seen she seems like a very lovely lady and these comments may hurt her deeply. She's exceptionally talented and beautiful in her own way. She is far above anyone making negative comments about her on here. Grow up.
I am so sorry I did not get to see this. Did not think it would be off Broadway so soon. I live 60 miles north of NYC & have seen lots of shows!! She is very talented & personality plus!!
I'm watching this a week before Lin leaves Hamilton. She said "He's leaving in a week" and I broke down in tears. Linnamon, why do you do this to me? #youllbeback
Okay, thats how YOU see it,NOT everyone else. To me Patina was over the top & she's just as amazing as Sutton Foster & believe it or not she has that certain flavor that Sutton doesn't.Patina showed just as kind of a star wattage that makes for Broadway legends too , she gave it HER ALL and she CARRIES IT ON HER BACK.She taught those sistas how to sing ! Sister Act was one of the top 10 shows to see that year , it's excellent & Act 2 was just habit forming ! Too me she & the show won in my heart
God I love her! It's funny how she have more attention to her dresser than herself. That shows how selfless she is. She just seems really down to earth for an actress and someday I want to be as good as her.
You are aware that this was Ms. Foster's SECOND Tony Award and that she was picked to create FIVE ORIGINAL lead roles in FIVE ORIGINAL musicals in a row before having Roundabout build this revival of "Anything Goes" around her, and that Ben Brantley (NY Times critic) stated that she was(is) the leading, triple-threat actress on The Street in his 2011 review ? I think Ms. Miller just got her award. Not sure if you're aware of whom you trashing.
Yeah, that was so sweet of her to acknowledge her dresser! I agree with the others though that the other nominees were better than Sutton was for this role (I had issues with her 'fitness' for the role, though I certainly didn't doubt her dancing and acting abilities).
yes ok but your mistake here is that herself NOT her character on bun heads. Sutton's posture is good. She created this sort of limp, uncaring posture for Michele which works with the character's personality and also adds another dimension of comedy to the show. Michele is supposed to be something of an oxymoron, a good example being in this case having bad posture and being a brilliant dancer.
Well, if one believes that their unique talents are God-given then, yeah....a little nod of thanks to the one who gave the gift is more than appropriate. And since when does believing in something greater than ourselves make us sheep? I love it when non-believers act so superior and are so critical of those who don't happen to agree with their non-beliefs. So inclusive, isn't it?
lol, that dresser is probably the most well known named dresser in history just because of that speech
I love how she just told us his life story unprovoked 😭😭
I believe the main reason she won the tony is because she stepped out of her comfort zone to play a part that many thought was not right for her. Not only that but she played it her way and still manage to please many people during her run who had doubt. couldn't have put it better myself!
"Violet" was further out of her comfort zone than Reno.
LEAV SUTTON ALOOONE

Am I the only one that teared up as she blubbered over how great and talented her dresser is??
i love how she's proclaiming her love for her boyfriends at the time Christian in 2002 and Bobby in 2011 and you look back on it and it's funny that she ended marrying someone completely different XD

My love for Sutton Foster cannot be put into words. She's just so real.

Sutton is just adorable. I love her so much.
i love musicals yay I had to read this in Trump's voice given your profile picture 😂

Man watching this made me tear up. I love how genuine she is.

Can I love Sutton any more than I do?....... Hmmmmm nope
Maggie M Jonathan groff
@Christie M Exactly my thoughts
HOW COULD ANYONE NOT LOVE SUTTON AFTER THIS SPEECH
PBS Great Performances sent me here! I was 18 about to end my junior year of HS when Sutton gave this speech. And i regret not having seen her give this triple threat performance until now eleven years later.
How generous of Sutton to mention her dresser like that. She is not only talented, but a kind and lovely person as well. I knew I liked her!
As a former performer, yes , dressers are extremely important.
I agree! They definitely are!!
I’m a former theatre kid too
Thank you 😊
god bless you Sutton foster 2011 amen amen.
...I seriously don't understand how anyone could hate on Sutton Foster.
I think she is a beautiful, wonderful, sweet, and down to earth person - an enormously talented star - and deserves every award and critical acclaim she's received, and more.
She's so generous, this award was about her, but she made it about several other people, wow!
Whaaaat is going on with all this hate?! If you don't like her, PLEASE just don't watch her videos? It's terribly upsetting for those of us who do. Sutton Foster is my HERO!!! She is the reason I decided to do theater! I LOVE YOU SUTTON FOSTER!!! You are the best Broadway actress EVER!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't think I could love her any more than I already do... then there she is, standing next to freakin Harry Potter ! Lol
i think it's funny how some people make comments under this video with the same arrogance a professional critic would have....
I love how humble and perfect she is!!!!
Lovely speech and she's just amazing, I have this kind of mixed feeling watching this
I am so sorry I did not get to see this. Did not think it would be off Broadway so soon. I live 60 miles north of NYC & have seen lots of shows!! She is very talented & personality plus!!
I regret not seeing it until PBS broadcasted the show
Amazing. Inspiring. JUst some words that describes Sutton and her talent/passion for the theatre. Sutton deserves everything she is so talented.
I was teary eyed when she was thanking her dresser. damn onions..
I love her. A brilliant talent and a real sweetheart.
She is my inspiration and a true joy to watch!!

That was an adorable speech!
Why did I cry to this?!?!??
Love it! Soo dramatic! She was so good in Anything goes!
She is a hot mess express in the best possible way in this speech. My heart.
She played Reno Sweeney, the leading female role :)
Love her so much! HAPPY BIRTHDY!
IT'S HARRY FREAKING POTTER!!!!
Wow..she is so amazing!
Her speech was a performance! I loved it.
The way that Daniel says "Anything Goes" is adorable. :)
God I love her! It's funny how she have more attention to her dresser than herself. That shows how selfless she is. She just seems really down to earth for an actress and someday I want to be as good as her.
One day I'll stand up there and get that emotional about a dresser

Well deserved win!

@sicronj and everyone is here to watch sutton freaking foster!
She wasn't just there randomly, she was nominated for a Tony Award :)
Sutton and Bobby, the last straight actors on Broadway!!!!
You got to love this woman!
amazing speech!! :)
She got carried away at the end, which was kinda weird but also charming and real.
She even got a tony from a wizard!!!
Why not? Bunheads is a great show in my opinion
She's adorable !
0:23 is adorable! :) I either wanted Sutton or Donna to win (b/c she was in Tangled). Sutton deserved it! =D
She is so cute! I love her.
Oh Sutton
Sutton is Fab! :D
She is adorable
@usdangirl23 They worked together for 9 years and they are best friends. I would be teary if a colleague and best friend was moving away.
Love her
She is such a goddess. Love her!
This woman is remarkable.
she is good singer and she is fit
SUTTON!, SUTTON!, SUTTON!
The way she mentioned her dresser leaving next week 😭😭
As a dresser I am SOBBING.
I remember when Daniel Radcliffe was basically Tom Holland
Daniel will always be the Boy Who Lived To Me
i remember bobby cannavale, [sutton's, actor boyfriend], as a kid, in the streets of union city nj. though, i did not know him personally.
Did they misspell Beth's last name there?
Yeah, that was so sweet of her to acknowledge her dresser! I agree with the others though that the other nominees were better than Sutton was for this role (I had issues with her 'fitness' for the role, though I certainly didn't doubt her dancing and acting abilities).
Is that Joanna Lumley sitting right behind Sutton? Lovely!
yes ok but your mistake here is that herself NOT her character on bun heads. Sutton's posture is good. She created this sort of limp, uncaring posture for Michele which works with the character's personality and also adds another dimension of comedy to the show. Nailed it Sutton

Was that joanna lumley behind sutton foster :O ? lmao
Yeh. Just chilling there
I've been searching for it but I cant find it anywhere
Daniel Radcliff is soo short! i never noticed until i saw him next to Sutton lol
Did she mention Cole Porter? He did the songs....
Are you saying that she is too decent and humble to let herself be the center of attention? If that is what you are implying, that is very sweet!
She thanked her DRESSER.......YEA YEA....Dressers are the best.....
Harry Potter giving reno Sweeney an award 😅
And this moment came when my childhood was coming to an end
What a doll!
