    I wouldn’t compare Batman in knightfall with the dark knight returns at all because here Bruce’s heart is in the right place it’s just he’s not considering his health.

    I liked that these stories also borrow from Batman's time spent in Metropolis in Superman's absence. He not only drives himself beyond his human limits, but alienates his allies.

    I've always loved the Knightfall storyline. It's just an exciting and compelling narrative. I also love your take on this, I agree that this run really emphasized and highlights Batman's humanity and flaws, but not in a negative or angst-ridden way. Bruce's heart is in the right place, but sometimes he can over stretch himself, physically and mentally, and be his own worst enemy. I always look forward to your videos and this is another awesome take on a classic story. You have great insight into and love for the characters. Thank you, because no one on RUclips (or in DC's official documentaries) is doing exactly what you are doing with examining and covering Batman's history. I've learned so much from your videos. 🙂🦇

    Black Mask! I love him! One of the great underrated Batman villains. I love the fact that they introduced him as a somewhat gimmicky villain and gradually made him darker. Such as when his gang started out wearing cheap Halloween masks, but then began breaking into art museums at night, murdering the guards, and stealing African tribal masks for their new disguises. Black Mask himself slowly went insane, becoming convinced that a mannequin was his old girlfriend Circe. Such a great character. And then Ewan McGregor made him a joke in BIRDS OF PREY - one aspect of an otherwise enjoyable movie that I did NOT like.

    What if Knightfall had been released these days? I bet fans of the most badass and brainless Batman, like the ones from New 52 and DCEU, would suffer a complete mental breakdown when the see Batman having his ass kicked.
    When you have your hero be kicked in the ass, you want them to prevail and know how to defeat the bad guy by themselves (yes, I'm looking at you, Tom King).

    I'm catching up on all the Knightfall videos since I hadn't had the time of following them when released, and holy cow, not only the passion and care you have for this character is always present and makes the whole viewing experience so pleasant (nothing better than listening someone talking about what they love... especially if it's about Batman ahaha), but the way you've evolved technically since the early videos, while still maintaining a very recognizable stylistic identity is so great. I will always be thankful for the care you put into every part of this episodic documentary about the history of the Batman, because it allowed me to expand my knowledge about this character I've always loved, and discover what are now some of my favorite stories ever, always knowing that your analysis would be a very thoughtful and interested P.O.V. to start from. I would say something like "keep up the good work, if it makes you happy!", but judging by the commitment you've always put into this project, I'm sure that it makes you happy, so: take care, stay safe and keep doing what you love!

    I must admit to being a little perplexed on Bruce's reaction to his initial "failure": it's not like a villain hadn't escaped before, and Lucius _was_ saved. In normal circumstances Batman would've grit his teeth with "Next time, Black Mask... " Then again, it seems he was already feeling a sudden "mid-life crisis" of sorts, so maybe that was all it took: he felt like he was losing his edge, and one villain's escape "confirms" it to him.
    There's also some debate that Superman's death contributes to Bruce's breakdown, too... though I personally don't really see how. At this point, while they were certainly respected colleagues, they were hardly the bosom buddies of old (Frank Miller saw to that).

  • @jayt9608
    @jayt9608 11 месяцев назад +1

    I would argue that this is a continuation of the character traits from that Tim, Nightwing, and Alfred pointed out. Since the death of Jason, he cut himself off from his emotions and increased his carelessness and violence. This trend has continued, and even though Tim is now Robin, he is not a constant presence in the life of Bruce as he lives and cares for his father and is not in the mansion. The difference is that instead of taking Robin into danger to slow himself down and consider his actions, he instead reacts by sending Robin away. This trend will continue into the No Man's Land. This is also becomes a later source of frustration and friction in the relationship of Bruce Wayne and Tim Drake.

    Hey Salazar, another great video. I have a recommendation for a potential Robin-related video: could you do a video detailing the later life of the original Golden Age Dick Grayson? The stories that showcase him as an adult who has taken over the reins from Batman? There are barely - if any - videos on RUclips that talk about the later life of Earth-2 Robin. Hell he even became the batman of the justice league for a time - where he wore that costume that combined elements of the Batsuit and his original Robin costume. You could also do video that talks about the later life of the Earth-2 Batman. How he married Catwoman and had a daughter that became the huntress. How he became the police commissioner after Gordon and eventually died in a fight to the death with a criminal.

    Wow, you have outdone yourself with this review Mr Knight. Your analysis and critiques are concise and in-depth as I have come to expect but here its even more impressive considering how many issues you had to cover in just one video. This run explored the humanity of Bruce Wayne more extensivly than any other Batman comic before it, we had seen glimpses in 'A Death In The Family' but here we were invited to feel much more empathy with Bruce as he fights a one man battle against impossible odds on many levels. Thanks for letting us know which issue your gateway into the Batman universe was, a very good place to start it is too. I still remember how delighted I was to see Black Mask returning to the title back then, he has always been one of my favorite characters. I think its a real shame that Doug Moench didn't do more with him and the Red Witch. Unfortunately the Black Mask which came after No Man's Land was never the same after or since. Personally speaking my introduction to Batman in comics was back in 1982 and I haven't forgot how thrilling and engaging that first experience was.

      @@SalazarKnightThe comic in question was Batman #349 'Blood Sport' where Batman hardly appeard at all instead featuring Robin in peril throughout, it was radically different from the Batman 66 version from TV, the only thing I had to compare it to. The visuals within were disturbing and captivating to my young eyes owing to the practiced pencils of Gene Colon whom was somewhat of an expert in drawing horror comics and not discounting Alfredo Alcala's atmospheric inks setting the scenes of foreboding perfectly. The coming years I picked up many more Batmans from the nearby newspaper stores (remember when you could actually do that!) I was baffled when I came across my first Detective Comic, expecting the numbering to follow on with the Batman comics which I thought was the same, It took a while to suss out that that title came first. I think Bane is an overrated villain, and that's pretty much the only thing I have against ranking knightfall as a higher story, because it is a story about Batman's weakness and how he overcomes it long term. Plus I love how it gave so more attention to Tim Drake. Also I don't have the Prelude book, I only have the three large collections of knightfall. Are any of the stories in the Prelude exclusive to it and not in the three volumes? If so, I want to buy it.

    • @SalazarKnight
      @SalazarKnight  3 года назад +4

      Depends on the versions you have. The latest omnibus reprints everything including the prelude, but prior collections to that one separate the prelude from the main story; which makes it weird as Batman begins Knightfall already exhausted and there is little context to that without the prelude.
