I’ve found San Diego very unique in its own right. It’s because it’s a very well-known city, but not for everybody. The weather is perfection 7-8 months out of the year where it feels neither hot, cold, or warm. Just very room temperature with a few token warm or hot weeks in late summer or early fall and maybe 40 at the coldest in winter. You can live comfortably in your home never running heat or AC. The downtown skyline has no remarkable buildings of note, just a few skyscrapers and high-rise apartments. The cost of living. It’s very high, but not nearly as bad as the Bay Area and a little cheaper than LA and Orange County. Food. Best Mexican food I’ve ever had is in Barrio Logan at Las Quattro Milpas, a Family-owned cafeteria with a limited menu of homemade tortillas, tacos, beans and rice, and tamales. Also The Chicken Pie Shop is worthy for All-American comfort food. People. They’re a lot more chill, live and let live, and not all concerned about money and social status for the most part. A millionaire in La Jolla and working man living in Claremont will talk to each other. Beaches. Better than LA, but a little cold for some. Coronado, La Jolla, and Belmont are the main ones. A mediocre Major League Baseball team that’s been around 50 years, but never stood out or won the World Series. Amusement parks are Sea World and Legoland just outside the city, nowhere near the hype of Disneyland or Six Flags. The downside is if you’re a flashy person into sophisticated culture, the arts, and nightlife, you’ll probably be disappointed and bored. And most of the folks are conservative that hate the liberal policies of most of California.

Having only one sports team isn't a drawback. Olympic Training Center is down there. There are many golf courses over there in the county. San Diego Gulls hockey team, Sockers indoor soccer and an indoor lacrosse team plays at Pechanga Arena. New soccer stadium will be built over near there. Another stadium is being built near what was Qualcomm Stadium. SDSU, University of San Diego and UCSD are Division I universities that have athletic teams. San Diego sports scene is very distinctive even with only a nationally recognized sports team.

@@gavingriffiths1831 Sacramento’s 1850 incorporation under the Americans is older by a month, but San Diego is definitely much older.
San Diego was named and established in 1769 as California’s first Spanish mission/settlement, and they moved up north from there.
The Sacramento Valley and River were not named until 1808, and Sacramento City started being built by Americans in 1848.

I will do a pros/cons list...i'll start with con first...please click "read more" full review on here.
Con - San Diego can feel like a small town even though it is larger than San Francisco. Many times you will often run into the same people or someone you know when you are out. Same if you date someone, they might know someone else you might already know. Can be a very incestuous city. Also there is not enough industry in the city. There are far more various jobs in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Cost of living is expensive for a city with the lack of industry. Can also run on the conservative side, many Reagan era Republicans with their Vanity plates on their cars (because they still think Vanity plates are in fashion). Also common courtesy is lacking, pedestrians do not thank you for letting them cross the road or street, drivers have a bad habit of not letting drivers merge into lanes on the highway, many start driving faster to block the drivers from merging out of spite! People are also very thin skinned if you say anything bad about San Diego, they get defensive like it was an insult to them personally. Lastly it is very transient, so many people always moving in and moving out...which can be hard to develop any relationships that way. There is a trend where many people are moving out of San Diego, and California in general, the last census form showed the slowest growth in any time in history.
Now I will list the pluses... I saved the plus for after, since everyone talks about the positives only...
Plus - Best weather in the entire state (although SD gets over shadowed by SF and LA it still has better overall weather year round, not as cool or hot as the rest of California). It is also CHEAPER than Los Angeles and San Francisco. The quality of life is better because of the laid back 'bro/dude/hey man' culture of people. Even the females emulate it, man. Especially people in their 20s to mid 40s. People are generally nicer in San Diego compared to other bigger cities in California. It is more slow paced (except at the supermarket or on the highways when letting other cars merge into a lane). You don't need to really dress expensive here, many people wear t-shirts and cheap flip flops in restaurants and stores. Where you went to college and the level of education you have is also not as big of a deal in San Diego, it's not judgmental. The beaches are not as crowded and parking is usually free. It is a right to life city, not and work to live city...many people like it so much they purposely chose careers or jobs where they earn less just to stay in San Diego. People don't have to move to San Diego...they chose to. Any other city you move to in California, or the country will be a downgrade in climate compared to San Diego which is more mild year round.

I am biracial Irish , German Jamaican and Spanish. I am a college graduate of Harvard and NYU Stern Business School. I own my own Insurance Agency - Senior Life Agency of Los Angeles through World Financial Group.
So here is my reason for desiring a move to San Diego California. First I do life insurance from home here in NYC all over California, second interracial relationships are dead and no where to be found in NYC. I have lived many places including Los Angeles and no have I seen a place so segregated.
San Diego California is listed as a colorblind environment where in does not matter who you love or want to share your life with.
This is important to me because in NYC segregation is front and center and is you are biracial like me there's
just no chance to find love if you are black/ mixed seeking a White female in a relationship.
So bring in San Diego would you say people are open minded and accepting and more concerned about the character and content of a person over race?
I am sure many more people have this concern but are afraid to ask.
Thank you and I will wait for your response.

If you're not making six figures, you're not making it. Unless you want roommates for life. I've been fortunate to have lived here all my life, and watch the cost of living skyrocket while wages remain stagnant. Driving culture is very aggressive, somewhat similar to Los Angeles, but I feel it's worse. Public transportation sucks. Nearly everyone drives. People typically drive at least a half hour to get to work, typically more. Who knows what it will be like after COVID, but this is a major food place, so if you like variety, you will not be bored. Great place for beer lovers. Everyone in Hillcrest has a dog and no one picks up their dog poop, so be prepared to step in it if you live there.. San Diego County is not a melting pot but a bunch of small, very different communities. Some parts have people living in the present day, and some are very racist. There are very poor areas, but mostly middle class, and some well-to-do to very rich. If you like the beach, be prepared for the smell (it's horrible, unless you like the stink of kelp). There are hiking trails which are nice and away from city noise. The best thing about San Diego is the weather- just about year-round beautiful weather. It rarely rains and you can go exercising outside and plan events easily. You'll never have to scrape snow!

I don’t have a car. I want to transfer schools to SDSU but I’m not too sure about living in a dorm. I would like to live in a suite style student apartment or just live on my own in a studio that’s close to school & by the beach. I guess I’m mostly worried about expenses. Like out of state tuition, rent etc. Is it unrealistic for me to move out there for next fall?

    • @BernMcGovern
      @BernMcGovern  4 года назад +1

I think anything is possible. I obviously don’t know your entire situation and in-state tuition is way cheaper then out of state here in California. My two cents - don’t rack up a ton of college debt when you can get the same education in whatever state your for a quarter of the price. You can always move to San Diego after college with all the money you would have saved.
But it is possible especially if you have roommates.

I'm a senior now so I was living in Miami and San Diego looks way bigger! But I need a climate with a lot less humidity originally from Colorado so dry heat is welcome. But my question is are there any Senior Communities at all there?? or is San Diego pretty much for the younger crowd like Key west in Florida is? The changing of the seasons is not a con for me LOL that's one of the reasons I am really considering San Diego I have a very progressed very painful Rheumatic disease. So pretty much even weather no extreme highs and lows with lower humidity it's what I need. San Diego is so freaking big I didn't realize it was such a big city. Maybe I should check out Baja California maybe that's smaller? Thanks in advance sorry I rambled on so long LOL
