It’s funny. I started WHF in 6th edition. Coming over from historical board games. To me, that’s the proper edition. Smaller units (10-30), guess range, etc. I remember 7th edition as being okay, it seems like cavalry got changed a bit from 6th. But I didn’t care for 8th at all. The much bigger tar pit units really turned me off, I remember thinking that it was just a way to force people to buy more models. And was that the edition when they allowed pre-measuring?
6th was ‘my’ edition too (Robin is just old 😂😅) and I would agree with your assessment. I don’t care what the meta is for old world, we will be playing with old school unit sizes and themes so stick around if that sounds appealing! 😁
