- In this video, I react and echo Mark Goldbridge's video 'Football is Finished'. The wider football community need to continuously speak up about the standards of officiating in the Premier League and English football as a whole. It is important if we want to see changes and improvements in English football, that we all call out the bullshit and nonsense that plagues our league and sport.

Shoutout to Nottingham Forest for also speaking up and saying something and speaking the truth! ⚽️
Gary Neville is upset… I wonder why… hmmm
agreed, they have every right to call this out
Absolutely nonsense. 1 was a pen, 2 at most. It happens, such is life. They were promoted exactly for this reason, Huddersfield had 2 certain pens denied in the play offs. Take the rough with the smooth

Mike Dean openly admitted overseeing the cuccerella hair pull against Tottenham and gets rewarded with a job on Sky
Mike Dean saw Nicky Bunt knee Peter Cech in the head, and then ushered Cech off the field! What a J. Arthur Ranker is Mike Dean!
@@Nicholas_Buck yes mate he’s a cnut same as Taylor
Sly News and Mike Dean deserve each other, both are just as frigging useless as the other
But the point is: he didn’t “oversee” it did he. He clearly saw the foul and red card and deliberately chose not to give it. He should obviously have been fired
The standard of refereeing is absolutely atrocious and VAR is an absolute joke.
And the worst thing is that VAR works just fine in other leagues besides the Prem. Mind you Howard Webb was interviewed just a few days ago and he said that "VAR makes decisions to make the on field refs look better." Of course he didn't use those words but it's easy to read between the lines.
As a Liverpool fan, I was shocked that the ref and VAR didn’t give the pen to Chelsea against Citeh. But it wasn’t surprising.
It was horrible for us Chelsea fans, man Silva was in tears and that was our only chance at silverware, we been starving mate!
Set up a Manchester final
What would this Ref had done if he reffed Liverpool vs Tottenham in the Champions League final?
@@thomasfynn9113he’d have given Man City a pen! Obviously
I bet the ref was going to give the pen but his phone just sent a notification saying that the payment was just received
A good start would be to allow the viewers to hear the conversation between on-field officials and VAR team, as they do in rugby.
Ya.. They do that in cricket too.. It makes it more transparent.. 👍
Football has a lot of corruption and this should not be allowed teams need to stand up and demand answers....it's alot of money involved on the part of clubs and their fans ....we can't be ripped off by corrupt officials
The Nottingham Forrest situation baffles me Ashley Young had a hat trick of penalties and none of them were given
So penalties should be given on the quantity of incidents or for actual fouls?
@@johngibson6597 actual fouls obviously, all 3 instances were penalties
@@ethandillard4547 I concede that though it doesn't seem to take much for big men to fall down either! Sometimes they don't even have to be touched!
Good luck if you do one of these against one of the top teams in the league though. Imagine getting away with three Penalties against UTD. Not happening
When players don't perform they don't play. When refs don't perform they add VAR that also doesn't perform 😒
Good point well made. V A.R. could work well if the people in charge and using it were competent. But they are not. The V A.R. equivalent in rugby and cricket do not have the problems. We see with it in football and especially the Premier League.
When refs don't perform, they are dropped for a week and then again selected to officiate games the week after that. I find this absolutely infuriating
Not to mention VAR drawing the blue line over the top of Wan-Bissaka’s foot rather than at the end of it so that they could get their Manchester derby final. Would also like to mention that the penalty we got says everything that’s wrong at the minute. Saturday and there’s no pen for the grealish handball, Sunday and there’s a pen for the other one. The whole game is becoming more and more corrupt since the inclusion of VAR
I was sure that fourth goal of Coventry's was inside. Who draws the lines, it's ridiculous!
TBF, the penalty awarded to Coventry at the end was a ridiculous decision.
Don’t ever think Angry Rantman is done and dusted. He’s ranting in heaven…..
“There is nooOOooOOO PASSION. NO VISION!! NO AGGRESSSSHHHHHIUN! NO FOOKIN MINDSEET IN DEZ FOOTBALL CLUB!!”
The Nottingham Forest vs Everton example is a prime one. Especially seeing the fact they reported that the VAR was a known Luton fan to the PGMOL
This is how football works, in 10 years' time: there will be the inquiry, probe, and investigations when someone decides to confess and reveal the dirty deeds of this era.
Some1 have already come out with something like this. Mike Dean came out and Said the 2-2 game between Chelsea and spurs, where they lost the title to leichster, he on purpose kept Dier on the field to Keep the “exitement” of the game.
Pretty sure his reasoning was that the game was too aggressive and he wouldve had to give multiple reds to both sides which we all onow wouodve caused many fights to break out@@peterjantzen12
This is how life* works
I bet they don’t
@@Ali-lc7vp That's OK then.
I watched the WHOLE Nottingham Forrest game and as a neutral (I am a CFC Fan) I was outraged!! When I saw the first penalty not called I was shocked then literally within 20 minutes there were another 3 back to back all CLEAR penalties not called! I couldn’t believe it I thought maybe the VAR system was down or not working 🤦♂️
Notice non of the facade of the big replays and explanations. Attwell didn’t even check the last one when your ex player got taken down. Madness
This is the same bloody Referee that killed Buffon and Juventus few years ago in the greatest comeback in the history of UCL! People don’t change…
You're talking about a bag of rubbish for a heart ❤️
The reason why VAR is bad is because they are not independent from the on-field referees. If I am correct, sometimes on-field referees are allocated as VAR officials for some matches. VAR should be independent from on-field referees so that there won't be a need for the referees to be protected but more to add value, and make sure mistakes are controlled.
Yep its mostly on field refs in the VAR room
Remember what Mike Dean said when he agreed with Taylor. He said he has to side with his bloke
One thing not mentioned is if it was penalty or not we all agree it touched grealish so penalty or corner but ref gave goal kick & you clearly see grealish smiling he knew he got away with it
They didn't give a corner because they knew that it would automatically mean penalty
@@kevinmawereza1015 still don’t make it right decision
That's the thing if it was a corner then why was it not a penalty if they are indicating "yes it did touch his arm" even VAR had a look which made me go crazy
In the FA cup case its simple a Manchester derby final will make more money than a Chelsea Coventry final
They, the media, were talking about it since last week
You just spoke my mind. Chelsea was robbed and same for Coventry. Their last minute goal against Man United was a goal.
Are you forgetting that City got away with a penalty but UTD got one against them in the Coventry match that was the same.
Don't be biased united got a decision against them and man city didn't
@@jacintahelen4137 Coventry not robbed,it was offside pure and simple and until the rules are changed that's how it is
From where I was sitting at Wembley, all you could see was the shot being deflected, Cole Palmer with his arms outstretched asking Oliver about something. We were all calling for a corner, what else could it be. It was only driving home after the game that we heard about a penalty not being given. Even Danny Murphy, the ex Man. City one, was saying it was a blatant penalty and could not understand how it wasn't given, this was on Talk Sport. I have been to the last four games we have played at Wembley and in everyone there has been a controversial VAR call that has robbed us of a goal.
We could see from behind Grealish raised his arm diverting the goal bound shot out to touch that may not have been saved when you see how late the keeper got across to the post. Then Oliver compounded the con by awarding a goal kick.
I genuinely think we are not allowed to win another trophy post Roman. Always some level of controversy. The lukaku disallowed goal was the worst.
@@nathanhenry7692 That one was so blatant, sadly I am thinking the same thing. When you see the Coventry goal being denied for a toe nail being offside, how often has that happened to us against Liverpool.
Danny Murphy’s never played for City or even the other one
Thank you for speaking up George 👏👏enough is enough
RIP Angry Rantman
Mike Dean didn't want to cause Anthony Taylor any grief by sending him to check VAR cause they're "mates." Football died that day.
Both of them pompous little farts ,
I have been a Chelsea Fan since 1967 and have had the pleasure of witnessing the progression of Chelsea and the Premier League.
This is now being destroyed by VAR & the PGMOL . i recently watched the Championship game between Middlesborough & Leeds and I had forgotten what is was like to watch a top class match without VAR. Bring back the old days and throw out VAR , BEFORE ITS TO LATE.
I would love a listen in between the on field refs and the var during the handball
football is fixed, VAR was not to make the game fair, it was to make it well and truly “fixed”.
Amen 🙏🏻
As for City Chelsea,Either he saw the handball but deemed it accidental, still corner. Or he missed it & VAR has to to direct him to the screen, where he can say penalty or corner. What they did was the only scenario that didn’t make sense
Here in Portugal this season every time the ref goes to see the VAR ... afterwards they relay to the crowd (like Rugby and American Football) the decision.
Watching the Forest game v Everton, with them aggrieved at 3 non penalties. 1st i can understand not enough. 2nd handball, like our claim v City should've been given. 3rd on Hudson Odoi, clear penalty. So 0/3 pens, shouldve been least 1. There survival hangs in the balance so these decisions are crucial. Luton bias been spoken about...
Well done George! Agree totally with all you said. Watched Brent’s vid and he’s spot on eh 💙
This video needs to go viral
They're corrupt
The penalty not being given is one thing how was City given a goal kick ....haven't heard anyone raising that as a major blunder.
It is one thing to say the referee saw the handball but decided it's not deliberate or close proximity or whatever excuse given. But when the referee does not see any touch by a Man City player on wall that is inside the penalty area, you can't say it's not clear he has made an error. HE GAVE A GOAL KICK!!!
I think the worst ever was when Cucurella was assaulted in our penalty area against the spuds in a 2-2draw when he was yanked/dragged to the floor by his hair & Anthony Taylor gave no foul & I believe it was Kane who scored straight after. In a normal world the offender would of been arrested & prosecuted for assault if it had of happened on the streets as it was that bad. And then sometime later after MIKE DEAN had retired (who was in charge of VAR that day) then admitted he should of told his buddy Anthony Taylor that it was a clear foul & it should of been a free kick but didn't say anything because he didn't want his MATE to be put under pressure & get him in any trouble! Now if that ain't the most disgusting cheating in football I don't know what is!! It just proves there are officials out there & top ones that are willing to break the rules for their own gains! In the end, even after retirement & admitting what he did, still no action was taken & still no improvements have been made. Mike Dean - Proof that Refs CHEAT!!
The ball went straight out of play having hit Grealish’s hand. City were then given a goal kick
How many times has Anthony Taylor made vital blunders on the big stage (even in the one week he went to the championship)? Still he keeps getting finals & big matches🤦♂️
Any other profession, regular incompetence of this level would not be rewarded, you'd be demoted or out of a job.
We need VAR for VAR
Commentator:"...awaiting a VAR-VAR decision. I believe that they're checking to see if the VAR operator is wearing a Luton shirt"
Keep the discussion going. Well done to you and Mark👍
Sport and corruption unfortunately just goes hand in hand - too much money in sport to avoid it
Before VAR came in they promised it would only be used for clear and obvious errors but now it’s being used to scrutinise everything. This is leading to matches being easily manipulated to get the results the people in charge want.
and it's usually in Premier league not other leauges
I don’t watch other leagues, but we always hear, “Vardrid” “Varcelona” so I think they experience it too. I just know we’ve been severely robbed by Barca in UCL before. Probably many other teams too.
Didn't you watch elclassico yesterday???Robbery at the highest order
England refs are europe's trash+VAR
They said that grealish was bringing his arm towards his body . Nonsense , if it hits his arm it’s handball full stop!!! Does not matter which way his arm is going!!!!!
This weekend really crystallised just how crooked and corrupt the officiating in England really is. Specifically the Forrest game and both FA cup semi’s. How can anyone take football seriously when we see dodgy things happening in almost every game. I’ve said that perhaps a way to get some accountability is the officials being forced to attend press conferences every game and explain their decisions to journalists just like the manangers do. Then maybe they won’t get so many things wrong and we see some consistency
That is a great idea! Enough is enough
@@oscarspannare3585 I think every fan is sick of it. Inconsistency, dodgy decisions every game. Something needs to change.
@@Neo_Rain146 spot on
Taylor was the same referee that only weeks ago didn't give a penalty when Forest were at 2-2 at home to Newcastle.
Even Alan Shearer admitted on match of the day Newcastle had got away with one.
Minutes later Newcastle went on to get the winner. There was a blatant body check in the build up by Dan Burns that Shearer thought was funny.
Taylor,Jones,Tierney and Atwell will have Forests relegation blood on their hands.
ALSO needs to be said the punditry that is continuing to protect these horrendous decisions. Constantly slamming the team releasing statements to "get over it" is unacceptable and a joke. I've seen it from Forest, Arsenal, and others who released statements after PGMOL errors. Disgusting
If referees are coming out and admitting casual errors, major errors made every game, every week for at least 2 years now, there's a point where you look at the leadership. Howard Webb's role as the leader of PGMOL should be heavily scrutinized.
I think it will be a good idea if the clubs have representatives in VAR rooms to help actually speak up in issues that VAR can resolve.
Too many chefs in the kitchen. Just scrap it until a computer can do it all in real time
Couldn’t agree more Benson, great video. I know no one cares, but we are seeing very similar issues in MLS with PRO (ref union in the US) refs that are constantly protecting each other from repercussions of wrong decisions. There needs to be a third party ref auditing processes that keeps these same refs from making the same poor decisions against the same clubs.
You're forgetting last month when the ref gave you 2 soft pens against united"
Need to get supporters at the games, doing banners and chanting about the pgmol for things to be done, so it’s televised
What if all the football fans stop buying season ticket against this corruption. Football is nothing without fans......
Chelsea robbed, Coventry robbed. One of the biggest football stories EVER was stripped because of sheer incompetence. Can't stand football anymore.
they clearly want manchester derby in the final

Coventry not robbed, offside pure and simple, if u like it or not until the rules are changed that's how it is
@@markstevenson1646 when VAR paints the line over Wan-Bissaka's foot, it's not offside. Coventry robbed.
Two solutions: 1. set the var team independent. Like the jury system in the court, invite randomly selected people from the public to form the team.
2. Set up a referee-of-the referee system, by evaluating the performance of the referee after each match, deducting points for errors made, and at the end of the season relegating the worst performing referees to a lower league that they can officiate.
George as a Chelsea fan, I’m a huge fan of both you and Goldbridge… would love to see you guys collaborate on a video together, maybe try reaching out to him and see if he’s interested?
Yes fair play to goldbridge he was spot on I watch the video and all the facts back up what he says
They wanted a city United final simple as
George Benson is an absolute legend of the music world, one of my favourite artists. You're in good company with that name! Anyway, I'm a Forest fan and am struggling with this premier League to the point of missing the championship.
Someone else said reps from each team should be in the var room and I think either that should happen or teams should be allowed to force a review that’s been passed over once per game
Spot Effing On, George.
If a man has it's hands on something. He will corrupt it. Money will finish football the way we know it. 💯
Remember they all got books too write .
I think the main reason why English VAR and referring keeps getting things wrong is due to a lack of understanding of the actual laws governing a football match.
The video assistant is to assist the ref but it's to assist somebody who actually understands what they are looking it or for.
Pre VAR Graham Poll used to be that guy. When his name came up we knew JT had a 50/50% chance of being sent off
Biggest way this can improve is mic-ing up the referees. Let them be held to account and the whole crowd can hear the officials' decisions on their mic.
“It’s not Man City’s fault” Idk about that with 115 charges on their head 😂
This needs momentum
2014 premier league, 2017 2020 2021 FA cup final, 2022 2024 league cup final, and the recent semi final in FA cup. Apparently FA hate us. PGMOL is a dictatorship. Letting referee controlling the game is crazy. Don’t forget UK government wanted Chelsea to die too, they forced Roman to sell his favourite team just to ruin Chelsea. Maybe we are evil as fuck😂 Idk
It goes back to before Roman. The FA, and Rupert Murdoch, hated Ken Bates.
This issue isn't exclusive to the PL. I see the same in LA Liga as well, refs are just horrible. VAR doesn't do anything at all. Hence why we must hear the conversations between the on field ref and VAR room refs to understand how they came to a decision. If they can't then AI should be refs, not humans
Problem is i am even getting used to it now its just ridiculous what ive seen. Remember 2 or 3 seasons back a west ham player literally bends down and blocks the ball with his hand that was going on target and there is no one near him no one blocking view and somehow that wasnt seen even the west ham player was laughing about it. It boils my blood
Refs need to start getting fined or even suspended because there is no excuse with var available
Every var situation has to be seen on the big screen for everyone to see. And after each game explaining why the decision is make.
Being a leeds fan we always get referees who are fans of rival Yorkshire teams and they're clearly biased. Andrew Madley and Bobby Madley are well known Huddersfield fans and they're ref'd Leeds games a few times and they're always terrible... it's clearly biased. Not to mention the fact Huddersfield are in the same league they officiate in. If people don't think bias and unconscious bias don't exist they're fools.
Actually there are no valid excuses that the Officials can give.
It really isn't corruption - it's just incompetance.
With that much money flying about there’s always going to be corruption
@@niblet112 Bad VAR decisions are not evidence of corruption. Thats a conspiracy theory.
The VAR referees should not have direct contact with the referee on the pitch in the first place, that way they can't be affected from what he is saying.
There was a report a few years ago about corruption in football, when Italy, Spain and an un-named country was named to be corrupt and I've got a funny feeling the UN-named country was England, because some of the decision I've seen has to be put down as corruption
I don't know why the refs dont get fined when they get it blatantly wrong!!!!
LFC Fan here, i wasn't suprised this wasn't given when I saw that M Oliver is the ref
Totally agree
I think the only way it’s going to change is if clubs will start speaking just like Forest did
The referee gave a goal kick to Man City. Meaning he did not see any touch by a Man City player, right. Why does VAR think that is not a clear and obvious error for the penalty claim since the Referee didn't even see ANY TOUCH!!! If the Referee didn't see it, you must show it to him. Why was he not shown the incident on VAR.
There is huge absence of integrity among match officials including VAR and it resonates what happened in Spain. You will repeatedly see Tottenham, City, Arsenal and Liverpool getting advantages from the match officials.
Mark Smugbridge doesn't ever mention the bullying and intimidation of the referees in 90s by all the Yanited players. Ferguson constantly pointing at his watch to influence the ref, it even was known as Fergie time. Let's blame the ref's because we're not the club we used to be. Hypocrisy at its best
The on field ref has too much power. He can’t cover enough of the field with sufficient vision. They should have more officials for better coverage and like the NFL, give the managers a challenge flag per half for mandatory review and public explanation. If they win the challenge they keep the right to challenge again.
Football is finished not just in the EPL but also Laliga
Especially that game last night with Barcalona not getting that goal against Madrid
THANK YOU GEORGE.
WE NEED MORE AND MORE OF YOU TO JOIN THE LIKES OF MARK TO SPEAK UP AND SPEAK THE TRUTH TO POWER.
PLEASE SAVE OUR BEAUTIFUL GAME.
SAVE THE INTEGRITY OF FOOTBALL THAT WE ALL LOVE.
SOME CLUBS ARE OR AREN'T WHERE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE ON THE TABLE BECAUSE OF INTENTIONALLY BAD DECISIONS FOR OR AGAINST THEM.
IT'S A SHAME.
It makes me as a fan lose interest in watching the games. I get so frustrated with incompetence and then the complete lack of accountability from the media just damages the integrity of the entire sport in England.
VAR should have started with the obvious calls, like who touched the ball last. The Grealish call on Saturday being a prime example. No penalty fine - but give the corner. Instead they started with the hardest calls, which are mostly subjective anyway. Five people can look at the same play a dozen times and see it 5 different ways.
Couldn’t agree more George.
When a vast percentage of refugees are from the Manchester areas it’s not surprising the final is between two local communities again
Refugees? 😂
Yeah, if you win, you go through. Are you too much of a Neanderthal to understand that?
I've been calling for this for years, why don't we mic the refs like they fo in rugby???
Any rugby fans here? Are there any ref scandals to this extent?
The mainstream media and pundits are more concerned about the reaction from the managers and clubs who have been subjected to unfair decisions, rather than discussing about the appalling decisions themselves. This season has been a disgrace in terms of refereeing decisions, and unfortunately this may continue going forward.
This is a great video George, but the Media won't do sh*t... The game was on BBC, and the way the actual commentators were blatantly biased for city, specially the handball, how they thought "if a pen was given, it would be harsh for city" I muted the game, and listened to a RUclips watch along instead
the media won't touch that, city audience is too lucrative for them
Great video. I am a Luton fan, West Ham at Luton clear pen. Vs Fulham clear Pen, Man U Vs Wolves clear Pen, Forest at the weekend at least one clear pen Vs Everton. Could go on, officials dreadful. About time they had been called out.
Why dont we let AI robots play football matches too 😂
AI should ref the games😂
One of the ironies of this is, you get the likes of Halsey, Hackett, Dean, Winter keep piping up but where were they when they made errors? Nowhere to be seen!
Fans should cancel their subscriptions. Lets hit the TV companies in the pocket who will then tell the authorities to clean up their act.
This is the reason why I don’t watch football anymore except at the stadium. Officiating these days is an absolute disgrace and most decisions falls into the categories of gross incompetence or total corruption!!
VAR should have been like what 3rd umpire is in cricket. I usually pronounce PGMOL as PIG-MOL. We need foreign referees in PL. Probably get those from AFCON games, PL will at least be a lot entertaining than what we get from Howard Webb, Michael Oliver and co.
There should be accountibility for refereers decision especially after having technology on their side to support decision making. Also they should be brought to conferences and explain their decisions
It was not just us ....I watched the fantastic Coventry game and was spitting when VAR killed off the Coventry winner (was it a toe nail) .....as an ex player I have watched refereeing decline since the 1980s (this is a major problem at non league level also).....liked the video and agree with you - the sad thing is that this is creeping into rugger as well and causing needless dismissals - I do believe that Chelsea are moving in the right direction but we do need to get rid of people like Jackson and Noni Madueke who are just passengers - the penalty farce against Everton just proved that there are still players who think there is a i in team....hopefully we will derail Arsenal as they flatter to deceive and of course Spurs just to fuck them off .....a minor European place is possible which after the muddle we have been in all season will be a small reward .....to finish I watched the Chelsea v Leeds FA Cup final from 1970 to remind me the way football used to be - the referee in that game was really good given what happened - Even Charlie Cooke got involved and that was saying something .....Blue Remembered Hills ....
Agree with all of that mate 💙
If it's offside, it's offside, no arguing there; it's a straightforward rule. But the handball rule is a whole different story-it's practically impossible to predict. How come Wan-Bissaka gets penalized for a handball in a natural position, yet Grealish's isn't given? You've completely missed the point of the discussion, something you should've considered before typing all that out. Disappointed. And let's not play the victim card. Chelsea has had 12 penalties (the most in the league, by the way) compared to United's 6, just as an example. We all get calls against us; you're not exempt.
The corruption runs deeper than you think ...
They should apply VAR like in Tennis, every team has 1 challenge per halftime and 1 additional when they reach extra time.
