Even after all the years since this has come out, it's still possibly my favorite video on RUclips.
I watch it at least once a month.
watched it again and wanted to write the same... thank you!
Dead serious same.
I'm 61, 9 summits away from 400 unique mountains climbed. My advice: Happiness is fleeting. Joy transcends sadness. Joy is found by living according to your values. The journey of self-discovery is honing in on your true values that you hold even though some major portion of society does not hold your values. If you live according to your values no temporal sorrow is lasting. Your deep embrace of life includes your impending doom. Woohoo!
I remember seeing it the first time at EOFT, dont remember the year. Was searching so long for this masterpiece, until I found it again. Since then I come back every year to this video. Everytime breathless, shaking and pipi eyes.. Until next time :)
I frequently find myself coming back to this video and getting teary eyed every time. This video/message moves me.
100% the same, sitting here crying - again. For the 10th time or so :)
Oooh, so I am not the only one - cheers :)
Here I am again…crying in my car. Haha
This is my all time favourite video on RUclips. I try to watch it once a year just to ground myself and get inspired x
“Derek's story, conveyed in such a beautifully crafted visual style, was so inspiring, that after seeing this film, you just can't wait to get out there and write your own.”
Congratulations to Duct Tape Then Beer on winning “Best Short Mountain Film” at the Banff Mountain Film Festival.
On long days in the office I watch this to remind myself that what happens in between and while you are waiting is what life really is. It's the little triumphs as well as the big goals that really make it worth it. It all shapes us the days in the office and the days in the trees.
3:10 "Money spent living passionately is better than any gear you can buy" I like that idea
Absolutely celebrating 60 this year.
This is something i will watch over and over again, on the good days and bad days. Thank you for sharing and inspiring.
I ran away in my 30's to ride Lipizzan Stallions almost every day. Then I hit 40 and had to go work in the corporate world...at least I can afford new whitewater kayaks and adventures on the river. Just not daily...Great message! GET OUT and Get Some!
Don't know how many times I've watched this and still I cry like a baby every time. So much inspiration.
My dreams come true on Monday's by the way. :)
This brought tears to my eyes. An amazing piece of work! VERY INSPIRING.
Today I’m 35, thanks for this video
Amazing, absolutely inspirational. Live life.
Thanks!
Thank Laura for leading me to you - inspiring when I need it
There is something in the sound of Brendan's voice that I love so much. This video was so encouraging and inspiring! Thanks!
Funny, I was thinking the opposite, that creaky voice thing is a annoying way of speaking.
Beautiful!!
DAMN ! That was awesome !!
Merci d'avoir été là Danielle
Cool vid. Just made my bad day better. Thanks.
Inspirational video
Thank you!
This was amazing 😢
Congratulations! I'm in the same age... 😋 But still chasing the dreams...😉
Thank you Michael.
Thank YOU Simon!
People who get so mad about another person enjoying their life often aren't enjoying their own. I'm sorry.
I love Arcteryx for making this awesome video... it reminds me everyday that using their stuff will always be good no matter what. Except for the price-tag of course, that shit never changes ;D
Great your 35th birthday :)
happy birthday
Well said.....
Totally know what you mean Jake, well said.
Thank you Riley, so glad it connected with you.
OK - have to agree with you there.
Cool...
What is happiness?
Is it, go to school. Go to college. Get married. Have kids. Work till you're old. Retire. Die?
Does it vary? Person to person?

There was a german and longer Version of it. somebody knows in whitch documentary it was?
dam
Fuck.
I'm 22, almost finished some studies two years ago, then decided to do what I want, traveling, living life. So I did not finished them. The last half year I started climbing, became pretty good at it but just because it was such a joy. But then i decided to study again and am prepairing now for that. Climbing time shrinks and it makes me sad. But otherwise.. the climbing equipment costs money. I got a job in a pizzaria, which is quite odd, but climbing made it ok. I'm in dischord..
Un jour a la fois je pense beaucoup a toi Danielle
I am so-called the top 10% earner but never felt happy when I saw that paycheck every two weeks. I was happy when I lived on $300 a month in the middle of Iowa with friends and nature.
Today is my birthday! :D
Beautiful. A man living the adventurous life.

Oh, go back to bed, you grumpy old bugger.
Way too much talking in this one. I, much prefer, Silencer and Springtime.
Knee-jerk critical reaction here to the line "and making pretty girls laugh." Writers, in the future, can we make that, "[insert any adjective other than pretty] girls making me laugh." Same goes for the pretty dress part. Man... that stuff is SO played out.
You only want to make girls laugh if they're pretty? How shallow
