Rest in peace Brad Gobright.
My heart stopped when I saw him on the screen.
Same 💔
Thanks for including Brad in this film. What a wonderful surprise that put tears in my eyes
Same.
I had tears streaming download my face! I had a senior friend whom put up a lot of climbs in New Zealand. We did multi pitch climbs together starting in the dark & finishing in the dark.Share a beer together and then split. He was an absolute legend in my eyes. He'd be frustrated about his abilities yet he were stronger than most guy a third his age.His perception and outlook on things were so freed of the dogma of most people. This Doco brought back some nice memories 😌 ✌️ Respect!

My man the Hud. So proud to see him getting after it so long after we did the Salathe together in 1974. A couple of the stills in this film I took with my old Nikormat on that, our first trip up the Big Stone. I'm honered that they editors choose to use those shots to tell this fabulous story.
Dude that’s so cool! Are you still cl8mbing?
That's awesome man!
Man, the climbing culture has got to be one of the most laid back groups of people I’ve ever seen
You don't know it from the inside then . There are a bunch of ego maniacal, driven, testosterone filled men.
It's because it's a zen based sport, not an adrenaline based sport. The better the climber, the greater their humility and control of their ego. It's closer to Yoga than most other extreme sports. Most of the ego's in the sport exist between 5.11a and 5.12d.
@@LeighMcClurg awesome!
wait till you meet nudists
@@LeighMcClurg I know some absolute asshats that can climb up to 9a or even v15. No one is free of their ego just because they are good at climbing.
20:00 The fact that Alex Honnold did that move without a rope is so insane
When he started crying at the top and they just held each other. That was so amazing and really touched me! That’s the true climbing spirit right there.
i will go as far as to say that this is the best film about climbing the Freerider
“As Free As Can Be” would definitely be an epic inscription on your tombstone
What a great pair- loved this!
One of the best climbing film ever for sure. Actually one of the best film ever regardless the climbing. These two are real gentlemen, in every way, showing so much humility despite extraordinary achievments. My total respect. Well done arcteryx for supporting an unorthodox story that carries many essential life lessons.
This was spectacular! I love not only their amazing friendship, but the support they give each other on the rock. I was rock climber for 23 years and had to give it up due to a painful foot condition. I miss it every day, so watching this video really hit deep in my soul. As we age, we cannot do the things we did in our youth, at least not to the same extent. I totally understand why Mark got emotional at the summit. Bravo Mark and Jordan!
I’m a young guy who just got into climbing outdoors with a couple buddies late last year and I can only hope to be making memories like these two soon… of course not quite the age discrepancy but just the way they support each other is inspiring. I’ve been on a few trips with them so far but these big wall climbs are legit adventures
I love that at the very top when belaying the follower Mark uses a grigri and Jordan uses a friggin hip belay! Rubbing off on each other I guess haha.
I am a 60+ average climber. 30+ years. This gave me hope of my climbing future.❤
WE WANT MORE JORDAN CANNON CONTENT!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
In college, I was good friends with Todd Skinner and Paul Piana, who did what is generally acknowledged as the first free ascent of El Cap. We were all climbing geeks, like Jordan, and two of our favorite articles in Climbing magazine were about the free climbing exploits of Mark and Max - I think the articles were titled "The Art of the States" and "The State of the Art," or something like that.
Now Todd and Paul generated their share of controversy, but that is not of concern to me. Several years ago I got a mountain bike shuttle at Lake Tahoe, and our driver was Max Jones! (He owns the shuttle company.) After all the riders got their bikes and left, I mentioned to Max that I had been friends with Todd, and that we were great admirers of he and Mark. Max told me that had met Todd and the two of them had a great conversation. He seemed to be a gracious and humble man, as Mark appears to be, as well. Hats off to them!
I honor another old Sierra climber: Reggie Donatelli. Reggie put up First, Second, and First Winter Ascents throughout the Sierras in the 50's and 60's, notably First Winter Ascent of Mt. Morrison. I worked with him at a long time sporting goods store at Lake Tahoe, The Outdoorsman. He was also small of stature but great in Spirit. We went climbing together, skiing together, and played volleyball on the beach together when he was in his late '60s. RIP Reggie. ( & Bob!)
Like watching 2 anime characters.
Mark: The old hyped up geezer
Jordan: The cool collected and strategic guy who always pulls up his glasses like a badass.
The heart of a climber. Congratulations Mark, you earned it twice!
It's amazing how they each gave the other the greatest gift possible: the Jordan's time according to Mark; and Mark as Jodan's hero inspiring him. Great story!
Best climbing video I’ve seen in a while. Thank you. This made my day.
Respect...it takes a lot of commitment, stamina and a good dose of craziness to do that at 60+. He has my total admiration!!
Talk about a great friendship. I appreciated them sharing their authenticity about the route.
❤ love your respect for history and tradition. From the UK with most of my climbing in 🏴 Highlands, the Alps & a couple of Karakoram trips tradition and history wherever you are, be it trad climbing, iced, mixed, alpine, big wall, sea cliff are your everyday companions & guides. I love the culture of different areas and the universal love of all citizens living their best life vertical (&/or surfing stick/lid, foot launching a speedwing, furkling about underground or messing with kites).
Agree with everyone here, this is the best, loveliest, most inspiring climbing doco I've ever seen. So much love for those two.
I don't even know how many times I've watched this now but it's easily ones of my favorite films and docs I've ever seen
When Mark was climbing the hardest route (at the time) in the world at 5.13, I was happy to do 5.9/10a at the same age. Today I'm climbing 5.13, with a target of 14a. Climbing is an awesome lifetime sport. Pace yourself accordingly.
What an amazing watch. Two top guys showing the world what climbing is truly about. Respect to you both.
What a fantastic little gem. The journey of climbing encapsulated. As for the slip at 20:05... terrifying with Free Solo in the back of your mind.
SAME THOUGHTS OVER HERE I ALMOST SCREAMED WITH ALEX IN MY HEAD
Simply awe inspiring!!
That was killer! It puts in in perspective that Honnold free soloed this route.
Brilliant! Best climbing movie ever!
What a beautiful gift to all climbers. Jordan's skills as a climber are far outweighed by his love of the sport and his appreciation for those who paved the way for him. Not to mention his compassion and support for Mark.
THIS is what I am talking about….ha ha ha old timer here in my 60’s - this is awesome
As a NOLS instructor at age 67, I could totally understand this film. WAY to go you two and Acteryx. i don't climb as hard as Mark these days, but have the same inspiratiion to climb the Cassin Ridge on Denali as he had. Anyone what to drag my ass up the Cassin
Sam Samuelson
Jordan is Marks hero. Mark is Jordans hero. Anyone who's seen this video clearly knows that their both heroes!
wow, had tears in my eyes. What an incredible pair of humans. This is what climbing is about
I laughted, I cried, I've been inspired, how much better can a climbing movie be?
“These guys keep peeing on us” 😂 I’d never thought that was a thing that could happen 😂
What total sweethearts. They both get that it's not about the grade, but about the climb together
What a great movie!!! Inspiration and fun. Really love this movie. Thank you for sharing!
what a gem of a film.
One of the most amazing climbing films. Great to see them learn from each other and create the bond they now share.
oh man, I‘ve watched this movie so many times now… I still tear up at 24:00 every. single. time.
This is one of my favorite climbing documentaries ever. So so good.
damn it. this is some of the most wholesome stuff i’ve seen in a long time.
Fantastic film about climbing! Plus this video shows what Honnold did at Boulder problem!!!! But I would like to say I know one Hungarian climber who is 65 years old and he is climbing on top level routs. (maybe Arc'teryx should make a film about him) It's a great honor to climb next to him. That Hungarian climbers what I know they don't let to make videos about themselves . One of them is at El Capitan right now. (Hungary has no even a mountain :) )
MAN !! I Love climbing videos, the dirt bags, living the valley dream...I love youcall so much brother's and sisters...to the heart of big wall climbing , from the heart of Wales, U.K.. legends have climbed in my beautiful country Peaks...the heart of a climber...what a privilege to FEEL your ascent Mark, to its emotional waterfall conclusion at the top anchor of Freerider...you rock my friend...just wish I'd had sone time on those legendary routes...TO CLIMBING ❤🍺🐐🕷🦥
That is the best climbing, heartfelt, full on movie EVER! Thank you all who made this happen! Warmly, Gabriel
Can’t believe I just found this video, god damn that is beautiful
Actually one of the best and most inspiring documentaries I've ever watched.
One of the greatest climbing films i’ve ever seen. Thank you!
That was just beautiful! Pure beauty!

Loved it! I don’t even climb. I enjoy the scenery and decent humanity!

Nice edit and arc. The way stories are supposed to be told. Really like the finish music- like desert for the ears.
My favorite climbing movie of all time. What a great story. :)
YEEHARJUSTFREAKINWOW!! That's a bloody good film!!!
What a beautiful friendship. That's two good men right there world.
Thanks to everyone involved with a huge shout out to the crew! 🤘🤘🤘The best climbing film for me this year by far.
Great seeing a new school crusher in Jordan teaming up with a true legend in mark. Keep crushing!!
I have never climbed rock but this mad me so happy
I try my best to repeat the 'Nothing could be finer' song every time I go climbing. Mark rules.
What a wonderful duo and story! Friendship, history, top-notch climbing, sober filming & editing... Has this video documented the essence of climbing in its purest form? One of my all-time favourite climbing videos.
Congrats Mark, Jordan, Arcteryx!
that was really sweet, fantastic show
Holy crap! A most amazing and inspirational story. Thank you for allowing me to join you to be as Free as Can Be! Such a great film in a pure form. Love you guys!
So... beautiful these two guys are. I mean the age gap, still, the adventure, their friendship, and again, the age gap 🙂so amazing!
This is the coolest film. Well done Arc'teryx! Mark is an inspiration to old folks worldwide. A senior citizen devoting a year to freeing El Cap is pretty f-ing cool! Inspires me to go back in my 60's and try the couple of things I wish I'd finished in my 20's.
This is the most beautiful climbing story I could ever even imagine.
Thank you.
Beautiful movie!
This is was such a great film! And I loved the friendship they created. Definitely one of my new favorites. Thank you for creating this wonderful story.
My goodness, that was wholesome! Amazing friendship, amazing journey!
Thanks a lot for all these emotions you did guys bring to me watching this film. That was fantastic and what you did even more. You are beautiful men
The part where they held each other really touched me. Really brought tears to my eyes, so sweet
THE Best duo in the world!!
Men of steel and hearts of gold.
What a touching, inspirational, bold and humble act of love. What happened there is neither a lesson about success or failure. It is a lesson about how we can achieve anything we want when we put a goal in our mind and happen to find that perfect alignment with one of ours.
Oh my gawd, What an awesome story of a heart warming friendship.
Fantastic!!! Bravo! what an amazing accomplishment!
I’ve been climbing and still do after 30 years and for me, It is about having fun and getting a total body and mind workout. Congrats to both of them
Wonderfull XD The Best short climbing film I ever seen!
2 true legends. this video goes in my top 3 climbing videos of all time.
That was amazing to watch. Unbelievably cuffed for the two of them.
amazing inspiration , to say something about it which doesn't include a single hero but "a village" :) and history stories that are there how we connect :)
Great film! Thank you!
absolutely awesome story, so fascinating!
Brilliant!!!
Loved every second of this movie
best climbing video I've watched ❤
What a wholesome watch this was, beautiful friendship and attitude towards life,as a amateur hiker I tried out a indoor wall climbing session recently enough and I can totally see how this level of climbing grabs a person,so impressive a person in their 60s completed this climb let alone a younger person, very inspiring
Outstanding! I am not a climber currently, but the community, the friendship here, helping a person through their struggles and failures, continuing to believe in them... This deserves the awards and these friends deserve each other.
It's not the goal, it's the journey. Obtaining the goal is only one nano-second in time.
This is really a lovely film
Insane but inspirational. The inter-generational comraderie is special in this video. Well done and thank you 👏
Awesome video and about a very cool friendship and bond. Don't mind saying I leaked a little awesomeness out of my eyes at the end of that one. Great job Mark and Jordan!
What a fantastic story! Their partnership through this is touching and inspiring.
What a beautiful human story
An amazing story and friendship
Absolutely loved this. I read an article about this film and this duo, I'm glad I was finally able to see the film.
