Also, it would have taken time for Anakin to become strong enough to defeat Palpatine. Eventually he would have been able to become strong enough in The Force to defeat him, but in ROTS, Anakin loses to Palpatine.

Obi Wan would have won even without the high ground. Not because he is stronger, better or even smarter, but because he fights smarter. He defend and do not move as much as Anakin does. Both of them are tired (they both get slower if you compare the very fast paced first parts to the slower end). Anakin is the one who do more crazy moves, and by doing so he is getting tired sooner than Obi Wan. The age gap is not big enough to allow Anakin to move way more and get less tired than Obi Wan. Anakin is so angry that he ignore his stamina, but the fight shows that for the second half of the fight, he is not even close to be as fast as he was at the beginning. Anakin really thought he could end the fight fast, but Obi Wan held.
