- What is a marketing goal and a S.M.A.R.T. objective? What are the outcomes in managing a company by objectives? How do astronauts set and achieve goals?
In this second lesson of my strategic digital marketing course, I deepen what a marketing objective is. I explain the goal-setting theory by Edwin A. Locke and Gary P. Latham and link it to the Expectancy theory of Victor Harold Vroom. This literature represents the foundation of goal-setting and is necessary to understand the S.M.A.R.T. goal.
The S.M.A.R.T. goal is one of the criteria to guide goal-setting and represents an acronym which means that an objective should be specific, measurable, attractive, reachable and timed (or time-oriented).
Finally, I share the take away of a very insightful video shot by the Canadian Space Agency and NASA about a speech of the Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield who imparted some sound advice on how someone can achieve their goals and become the person they wish to be.
