What makes ichang and Jimmy videos different from others, aside from their kindness, appreciation and consideration for our Malaysian cultures, that they researched each food and state reasonably well before they feast. It's not merely a channel for eating and cooking. Their commentaries while savouring each dishes is something that I always looking forward to..like what elements of the food they can taste (eg galangal, nuts, ginger etc), or nasi ambeng has no prominent flavour profile. While some of Jimmy's comments made me laugh, mostly I learned something everytime I watch their video. My father's from Johor but I never knew about the culture of eating laksa Johor by hand. Many thanks ichang and Jimmy 👍👍

I'm sure apart from the "abang" being in a rush, the reason why he paid for you and left was because you wouldn't be able to refuse his kind gesture, or repay him in any other form. A sincere act of kindness without expecting anything in return. I have met many people doing it this way. Not to say that if someone pays for you and stayed around, they're insincere!

Also in case no one has said it yet, the fried 'tempe' that Jimmy ate is actually cow's lungs. It's typically boiled first, then sliced thinly and deep fried with the rempahs.

IChang our prophet Muhammad did say through Al-Bukhari narrated in his Sahih that Abu Hurairah said: The Prophet said: "If a house fly falls in the drink of anyone of you, he should dip it (in the drink), for one of its wings has a disease and the other has the cure for the disease"

11:11 nasi ambang (malay dialect) or nasi ambeng (javaness dialect) that you got in the video seems not really traditions one.
In nutshell, yes it is like mixed rice or bento in your culture but the history of nasi ambeng was started for some sort of thanksgiving (we called it “kenduri kesyukuran”).
The tranditions that i knew are relally depending of the type of “lauk” that accompanied the white fluffy rice, such as ayam masak kicap, mee goreng, serunding kelapa, sambal goreng jawa, sambal tomat, ikan masin bulu ayam (this one is as same as what you had, not ikan bilis,?ikan masin or salty fish).
So the different i can see from what you had was the sayur kobis only while the tradition one must have sambal goreng jawa . It is stir-fried mixed veges like long beans, fried tofu, fried potato, fried tempe, tauhu kering/dried tofu, suhun/glass noodle, 3 type of chilies, herbs and the way it cooked; sole only with more soy sauce or some cook it with coconut milk and dried it up.
You may watch YT : Destinasi TV that the host make it with a bunch of ladies in Johor.
16:22 is Paru Goreng Sambal or Fried beef lung with sambal. 😅 not tempe sambal
Anyway, love your video as usual.
Thank you for your foods exploration.
Keep sharing and don’t forget to work out too🤭🥹😆😆

Selalunya kami makan laksa atau nasi kat kedai tak guna tangan sebab malas basuh tangan. 🤣
Part ichang kata roti jala sama macam seluar dalam jimmy. Lol.🤣 Ingat orang malaysia je guna istilah tu.
Yang jimmy makan tu rasanya paru(beef lungs) goreng.

Mostly Javanese Malaysia are from Johor, Selangor & a little in Perak...Nasi Ambeng also can be found in Selangor... Durian Gravy(Kuah/Serawa Durian) also the best dipping for Roti Jala...

I eat noodle with hands before when there's no utensils. but the reason some people eat that laksa with hand because it wasn't very hot and the gravy was thick. Imagine you eat a hot bowl of Penang Laksa with hand. You hurt yourself more than you enjoy eat it 🤣

omg i spent my childhood in this neighbourhood in larkin just a few houses away…. JB people eat Johor Laksa with bare hands but normally at home.. I also seldom see people eat this laksa using bare hands at restaurants- mainly using fork and spoon… the thicker the sauce the better.. my favorite food since childhood .. special dish during Hari Raya in JB❤.. itadakimasu!
