Suka tengok how jimmy treat his wife, ichang… so gentlemen. From the 1st video until now, Jimmy respect soo much towards Ichang. Everything is ichang did 1st. Ichang akan makan dulu then baru turn Jimmy. Jimmy is soo nice and lovely husband 🥰🥰 please jimmy take a good care of ichang forever ya. I adore both of you 🥰
Lovely couple!!!
I am from Perlis. But live in KL because of work. Had live in KL for more than 10 years. But trust me, nothing can beat Perlis. My heart is always longing and yearning for Perlis. When I brokedown or lost my spirit, I will take a bus trip back to Perlis. And I will just walk and walk along the green paddy fields and stare at them for hours. It is my way of healing. My ultimate wish is to buy a land in Perlis, build a small house here and settle down. Pray for me guys.
no wonder ichang is so humble.. she grew up in countryside.
Welcome to my hometown Perlis. This Warung Tepi Sawah located just a few km from my house 💕 hope you guys enjoyed staying in Perlis, the smallest state in Malaysia 🫣

Wow! Your hometown is awesome 👍
I heard that Perlis only have 8 residents. Is it correct?
terima kasih sudi datang ke kampung saya
Your ability to eat a curry dish while wearing a white shirt in most of your videos is so admirable... stuff of legend! 😲
I got one proverb from Malay (Peribahasa) for iChang and Jimmy because u guys surrounded by paddy field area, it sound like this 'ikut resmi padi, semakin tunduk semakin berisi' means more knowledgeable or higher rank you become, more humble you behave. The Malay take paddy plant as example how to act in our life, when paddy plant become bigger and mature, it will falls down.
That roti pancake called PEK-NGA.
Northern style of peknga usually made from wheat flour, shredded newly mature coconut, egg, water, salt, sugar. Shredded coconut is an identity ingredient for peknga.
Actually Peknga is short forms of Tempek(spread) atas(on the)belanga(pan).
It's a traditional Malay pancakes usually ate during breakfast.
And another thing, in Perlis curry is called 'gulai', and it taste a bit different from curry mamak.
@@azharazmi4605 yup but southern don’t call it as peknga they just call it ‘lempeng’. And southern lempeng just plain and usually paired with types of sambal.
Aiyoo..missing that so called lempeng. It's been so long since I eat that. 😭
kt terengganu panggil lempeng nyor kot
That's not roti, that's *lempeng,* my favorite breakfast when I was small, living in kampung with my parents! My mom liked to make all those traditional malay food, kuihs and dishes. We either ate it with chicken/fish/beef/mutton curry or masak lemak chilli api (the yellow colored coconut gravy unique to negeri sembilan) but the secret was the curry/masak lemak was overnight leftover and reheated, then it felt more kaw, yum! 😋
Or, even more yummy, we also ate it with grated young coconut flesh plus a generous sprinkle of our traditional gula melaka or gula enau (mind you, it's not gula merah or brown sugar, which doesn't taste creamy, and which feels a bit bitter). Of course as a small kid, sometimes it was eaten together with condensed milk 😅
You guys have to learn the more proper way to eat that *ikan kembung* (I don't think it's mackerel family, but not sure) because the way ichang hacked the fish, that got the tulang (bones) all over the place, one day you're gonna get some stuck in your throat because they are hidden within the gravy.
Anyway, kudos to you guys for this discovery, this is the type of eatery, we malays call them *warung* and they are usually roadside, hence *warung tepi jalan* because this is the kind where you can sample the local traditional foods and dishes. Good job! 👍
Local people call it Peknga
Nothern part people call PEKNGA…
Malaysian pancake @ lempeng
Terbaik penjelasan bos ..kami panggey peknga tp sebut lempeng juga bleh paham.👍👍👍
Baiklah.
Harap maklum.
Ironically I was so fascinated with Japan since my childhood...never thought I would see japanese fascinated with my country for a change lol..
Thank you for introducing Perlis. It's so beautiful indeed. It's a shame, that as a Malaysian myself, I've not been to Perlis. I'll make sure to make a trip there next month (school holiday) 😉👍🏻
Mee too...sad
You can always fly to Langkawi for holiday and take a day trip via ferry to Kuala Perlis.
Such a beautiful place! Don't we just love our country's beauty?
You would love the food there..as a Malay, i find that Northern states have the most delicious food...
I fell in love with Perlis too though I'm a Perakian. It has a different vibe!
Perlis is sangat cantik...that places you stay is so beutiful at morning....so nice...
18:24 its the other way round.. West Southern Thai formerly belongs to Kedah, even perlis and Penang as well.
Malays do not call shredded coconut 'santan'. Santan is the coconut milk. Shredded coconut is kelapa parut. Kelapa or coconut is called Nyiok in Kedah and Perlis.
Shredded coconut, Perlis people call it "nyoq kukoq"
Speaking of which, there’s one favourite “Malay Peribahasa” that I would like to share to both Ichang and Jimmy. The peribahasa is “ Ikut resmi padi, makin berisi makin tunduk”. Translate directly, it would mean, “be like paddy, the more fatter (as it contains rice), the more it bow down (to the earth as depicted in the picture clipped in the video)”. The proper meaning for the peribahasa is, the more knowlegable (higher status) a person is, the more humble the person should be (something like that). I think this sharing very proper, judging, Ichang can relate to paddy very closely (remind of her hometown). One more thing is, resmi padi is kinda closely related to Japanese as well, due to the act of “bowing down” that became a part of your cultural identity 😂 A wholesome content as always and keep em coming Ichang and Jimmy!
nice anology 👏
10pm and first thing i see is sambal. How can i see sambal almost everyday and still feel like eating it HAHA
Ahh..this really brought tears to my eyes😭. Really2 miss my hometown. Born and raised here i can guarantee this is the best place in Malaysia you could live peacefully after retirement. The view is extremely superb especially after the rain. The food, our people and geography landscape might be the best in this country. Nothing can compare living in kuala lumpur with our lovely hometown. This place have a special sentimental value for us..that's why this place was named PERLIS INDERA KAYANGAN🟡🔵
So glad Ichang and Jimmy went to Perlis. I lived there for two years. It's the most beautiful place in Malaysia. The people are friendly and food is great. The ikan grut bakar in Kuala Perlis was my favourite.
That's the thing with life isn't it? One moment you're peacefully enjoying mother nature and its beauty, the next thing you know you're on the ground in pain from a fall. Moral of the story is to always be on your toes. Take care iChang!✌️
The pancake you ate with curry is called lempeng kelapa. the pulut looked so good. My late mother used to make tiny balls of pulut then rolled it in the coconut. Just a perfect size to put in our mouth😊
Im an alumni from University Malaysia Perlis. Living in Terengganu. Our campus is walking distance from Warung Tepi Sawah. Miss the view and the food there. Would like you to experience Terengganu too
IChang really knows food, she just look at stuff and can know the ingredients
Food in Perlis are heavily influenced by Thai food since we are so close to the border. Also we like to eat pulut. Pulut ikan masin. Pulut ayam. Pulut pelam. Pulut durian. Pulut sambal. I love my hometown because foods are great and cheap 😆. And it's easy to go everywhere. No traffic jam.
It is moonsoon time in Malaysia usually they let the rice paddy field flooded. After rain season passed, they will reseed and plant the whole paddy fields. Oh i miss coming home to Perlis. Happy that you enjoyed the trip!
The field on the left is the rice field, and the small green offshoot you see in the water is the seedlings of the rice crop. It was a very early stage of rice plant growing but due to the heavy rain they are slightly submerged, then due to that some seedlings died due to being eaten by snails. That's why you see uneven spot on that field.
Then the field on your right with the tall plant is just grass and weeds, the field is not properly maintained or likely they just leave it like that and didn't plant any rice
Day by day you guys know a lot about Malaysia and food. So impressed you know every state located and makes you know a lot about our culture as well....congratulations 🥰
Their Apom Lenggang is a bit different to that in Kedah. Kedah's version has crispy bits on the side.
most of the fish curry in malaysia has a hint of sourness to it, so its a little different from chicken or beef curry :)
Perlis.. the most relaxed & calm place in Malaysia. Studied there for 4.5yrs there. Cheap but good food, mostly Thai style with local signature 😍😍
missing kampung wai rite my bro.... hehe
@@sayaanda6041 haha. Geng unimap la kalo dah mentioned kampung wai 😄
Kemon mior.. die hard roda panas
The weed in the paddy field is called "menerung"... Kinda high tall wetland grass... The local used to harvest & dried it to make a floor mat or related craft @ woven basket / bag etc... Anyway there's a term for coconut flakes / grated - kelapa parut. Santan - coconut milk, fried grated coconut & grind well, it becomes kerisik. If you boil / cook the santan till it ' pecah minyak', you may get a coconut oil & the residue of the oil, we called it 'tahi minyak' & it taste so good with koleh kacang. I think you guys should try that kuih too :)
How am I going to explain that ' tahi minyak ' if people asking me to translate that in English 🤔🤣🤣
@@azharazmi4605 just tell them it's _the sh:t from coconut oil_ er, I mean it's _the p00 from coconut oil_ er no, I think we have to be even more gentle with the choice of word, so let's just tell them it's _the dropping from coconut oil_ 😬😂

Aku habaq kt ichang pecah myk sbb dia phm... Kih3 dok tgk few videos dia dok msk Kari sugu Pavithra tu... Term lain yg chef 2 selalu guna - oil separated / splitting... ;)
I love fish curry more than beef or chicken curry because only fish curry has sourness. That is the difference of northern style curry ( Perlis right up to Perak ) where else Kelantan & Terengganu's curry a bit sweeter. I-Chang should also try another type of dish eaten with sambal and or coconut shavings which is boiled cassava. That is traditional kampung dish & difficult to find. Jimmy is clever to eat the glutinous rice, coconut shavings & fermented fish. That is one dish difficult to find too. As for the paddy field, now is the monsoon season, always raining. Most paddy field will get 'drowned' 😂😂😂, so no planting
Dear ichang. I began watching this video at 10.30.when I was abt to sleep. suddenly I felt so hungry... my mouth watery when I saw u ate the " lempeng nyoq" (coconut pancake).. with curry & the pulut kelapa with ikan masin
As a Malaysian, Perlis is the one and only state I haven't had a chance to visit yet 😅 so beautiful 🌾🌾🌾🌳🌴
The sambal and gravy in Malaysia are just too unique and yummy!
Nice to meet you, I look forward to new videos
Hi... Ichang, Hi... Jimmy. You guy's in Perlis already!! Soon you'll be more Malaysian than the Malaysian..... 😅
You travelling to all the states in Malaysia than us and not afraid to taste all kinds of foods. Good for you.
Keep going all the way to the south, you will discover more. Stay safe and enjoy.
Wahhh, that's so nice. While you're in the northern states, there are some rare foods you can find over there. One of them is Emping Padi and Ringgi. They're made of paddy and eaten with grated coconuts/santan and gula melaka. The difference between Emping and Ringgi is Ringgi are made of younger paddies, which also give rise to its fragrant scent.
@iChang Welcome to Perlis. We just starting the rice planting season, the field that you see with little leaves coming out is the seedlings while the tall stems are grass named 'Menerong'. Its an invasive grass.
Perlis is super nice country that you never ever will have headache...the people is supernice and shy...vibes kampung everywhere that you will never find in other place...
I chang should visit muzium paddy at kedah, so you can know a variety paddy in Malaysia
I had been to Perlis during my childhood and it is still the most relaxing place for me.
the roti Ichang eat, we called it Lempeng @ Peknga (Kedah/Perlis called) made from flour + coconut...
Dear Jimmy ang i-Chang, the meal, pulut + ikan masin + coconut shredded normally eaten by kampung people when they doing paddy field work. And it's will serve during harvesting season. Nowadays, people take it as breakfast or during rewang ( big work before kenduri)
I saw you two at the stall but I was shy to say hi. Ichang is so small :D
Glad ichang not badly hurt when slipped from the stairs.....
We (two lecturers and 20+ students) tried to go eat at the Warung Tepi Sawah, but on both days the place was absolutely packed at 8am. So we had to go eat somewhere else... If in Kedah or Perlis you should try Roti Doll and Roti Sanggul.
The scenery is so beautiful 😊
that is a typical kampung breakfast for northern malaysians 😊 its "peknga nyok" ( coconut pancake) served with "gulai temenung" (fish curry) 🤤
Im glad and happy that you guys come and explore the nothern side of Malaysia like Kedah, Penang and Perlis. It is more calm because these states are not too crowded with tall buildings. I hope I will see you guys one day btw I live in Kedah😁.
These food, like fish curry, lempeng , kind like roti canai, pulut, and etc are Malay food.. Whereas curry, and roti at Nasi Kandar restaurant are Indian food(Mamak)... You will find the taste is different even the names quite similar..
Thank you ichang because you're willing to come here. This is my hometown. The smallest region in Malaysia. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy your every single journey and experience when being here.
don't forget to try Laksa at Kuala Perlis. although it is just like Laksa kedah but there are slight difference. and for something to be cook extra crispy, just say to the seller extra garing. that tea you drink maybe they use the tea powder from Thailand as Thailand is so near so Thai goods can be easily bought. maybe next time try the local coffee / kopi Kampung. it taste different from the usual instant coffee
i recommend laksa d adna is the best choice my favourite port..
It’s nice hearing iChang’s hometown story. It was so heartwarming. Now I’m wondering how Jimmy met iChang 😅
That teh ice they put honey inside. And the rice fields, they cannot plant rice yet due to rainy seasons. And pulut ikan masin is our ancestor’s kind of meal !

Wow!!! So nice the place. The breakfast you just eaten also look so nice. Thanks for introducing Perlis to us.
The history of Perlis can be traced back to 1800, when it was originally a part of the older kingdom of Kedah. It was then separated from Kedah in 1942 and became a Thai vassal state during the period of Siamese influence.
@@hawaandroid2786 kan. most Malaysians don't know the difference between Siam & Thai.

It is salted mackerel fish, my favourite salted fish. I would it that salted fish with white rice and fried egg, pour a little bit of soy sauce on top of egg and rice. I could also used the soy sauce separately by mixing it with slice onions and chilies. Very quick and easy menu especially for single people on a budget.
Jangan lupa ke Gua Kelam , Wang Kelian dan Padang Besar , Kuala Perlis jetty ke Langkawi
