Now I know where to go when I visit my cousin in JB. Thank you boss for showing love to both iChang and Jimmy. Thank you 2nd gen for taking over the family business so that we still can taste awesome goreng pisang.
9:55 Bananas for Pisang Goreng are mostly from varieties which is not readily edible because for that variety the carbohidrate is in complex form, our human body find it problematic to digest. If you do eat them raw, even though it is as ripe as it can be, it'd taste so plain or even yucky because the carb is not in sugar form yet. That's why those bananas are fried, so that the complex carb would decompose into smaller carb-chains, ie. sugar form. That very sweet banana at 9:55 perhaps is very sweet because it's from varieties that is edible raw, ie. the sugar is already in simple form and when cooked it goes thru caramelization. People usually tend to avoid frying such variety though, because it can easily become too mushy and caramelish (can tell from the blackish color if it's only lightly coated with breading/flour or not coated at all).
Hi Jimmy and ichang...wonderful to have both of you in here...just to say you miss another wonderful dish of tahu goreng.... serve just a few steps away from where you shot your final comments...on the steps of the upper stalls...hope you get another chance to come and enjoy the best TAHU GORENG in johor..
I never went to johor but i knew that pisang goreng with sambal kicap is the best combo. My late mom was the one tht taught me to eat like that and it's the best. And the jemput2 or round fritter usually use the ripest bananas, so you actually don't need to even put any sugar bc the sweetness is enough. Some might use wheat flour but my family use blended uncooked rice that's soaked for a few hours to soften a bit
During my childhood, I remember Pisang goreng will be like my everyday menu and my mother served them as breakfast. We have kebun Pisang and Pisang stock forever... Some time we also eat Pisang goreng with asam pedas gravy as our snack and I am from Johor.
when the bunch of pisang is ripe.. you mom will cook it for breakfast and minum petang... you will have to eat a menu mostly from pisang for almost everyday until the pisang is finish... from the not so ripe pisang goreng..ripe pisang goreng... to cekodok pisang..lepat..nagasari... and the last one is pengat pisang... One bunch of pisang is a lot!

Singaporean always come to johor because its near and the price is cheaper because of the currency. Sometimes they buying anything and bring back to singapore. For johorean we ate Pisang goreng and dipped with kicap.
before pandemic they came to johor weekly too, like sometimes just to go to the farmers markets. it's just like how malaysians go balik kampung over the weekend. i was shocked to see so many singaporeans at the pasar tani when i did my practical in JB lol
what i really enjoy watching your videos is how you communicate with local people and how generous and very welcoming they are, everytime i see that i'll feel goosebumps😃
Different type of pisang have different unique taste. But the real secret is the flour they use. They mix a few different type of flour to create their own signature taste which differs them from other pisang goreng sellers. Thats their secret recipe.
In Malaysia, we only use 3 types of pisang to make pisang goreng. The ones on the floor is called pisang kapok/pisang nipah and the big ones hanging is called pisang tanduk(horn banana) because they look like horns of baffalos and pisang raja(royale banana). Only these two are suitable for fritters. The other types that you usually eat at home...when they are over ripe you can put flour and some sugar and make jemput jemput also called cokodok pisang(banana balls). Yes, there are many other ways to eat different types of bananas in Malaysia. Some are made into desserts(example pengat pisang), snacks like keropok pisang and some are cooked as dishes to be eaten with rice.
Both of you should have tried the "GORNG PISANG TANJUNG BUNGAH" in PENANG ISLAND where you were here! This road side stall on a van sells: 1) Pisang Goreng, [deep-fried banana], 2) Kuih Bakul [glutinous rice], 3) Kuih Kidok [banana cake], 4) Ubi Keladi [yam], 5) Ubi Keledek [sweet potato], 6) Ubi Kayu [tapioca], 7) Kacang Hijau [green bean] & 8) Goreng Cempedak.....

As I propose before .. Eating fry banana with sambal kicap ... is a must ...if you visit JOHOR.. and Johor are very famous with Pisang tanduk ... Horn banana... It's very sweet banana
I hope you keep enjoying the foods in Johor. There is many other food where it is different from state to state but as Johorean I am biased to say that our food is the best in Malaysia and some say in Singapore and Batam as well
Pisang tanduk the longest one, cut into rounds is actually plantain species. Pisang nipah too, is a type of plantain but pisang raja is banana species. In malaysia, all of them are considered as pisang which translate to banana 😂. Plantains are less sweet but many malaysian varieties are quite sweet and made into nice and sweet pisang goreng. For cucur or cekodok pisang, you need to use bananas, cannot use plantains because the bananas need to be mashed to make the batter
Oh my goodness! With all the craziness that is happening around the world, your video brings a sense of feel-good and is very calming. Makes me want to go back to my hometown and enjoy the array of pisang deliciousness. That sambal kicap is gold! Domo arigato Jimmy and IChang for yet another mouth-watering, crunchy video...Enjoyed it so much! By the way, my late mom used to cook my late father's favourite tea snack called 'Pisang Janda Kelisa.' She used pisang raja, cut into two and fry until golden brown. Once you take it out of the wok, you apply a dollop of butter on it while it is still hot and sprinkle it with caster sugar or honey! You will have non-stop food orgasms!
Pisang goreng lagi sedap kalau dimakan dengan "sambal kacang" pedas manis...tak ramai yang buat tapi dirumah saya mesti ada sambal kacang kalau makan pisang goreng...

Johor sambal kicap is quite special because some of us put in a clove of garlic...pounded with some cili padi ...add in some sweet & dark soy sauce and some lime juice in...some people prefer light soy sauce but it will be saltier and usually you have to add in a little sugar to balance the taste...but all in all the recipes varies in diffwrent households depending on family members preference...i really enjoy watching you both enjoying pisang goreng at Mawar...👍👍
The banana which still in floor in Sabah name Pisang Saba or Pisang rebus .. if u boils OMG so sweet but make sure already yellow the skin. Sabah we use that kind of banana especially for Pisang Goreng
I'm not from Johor but even I rarely eat pisang goreng without sambal kicap now. I live in Selangor and not all pisang goreng stall offer sambal kicap. If they did not offer it, i'll just get back home to make it myself. Sambal kicap is dangerous because it makes you want to keep eating. Very dangerous.
