    He’s a hero to me, because he is always willing to put his principles first. That’s it. Despite all the pressure that may be put on him by the biased media, despite all the sacrifices he may have to make in terms of ‘potentially’ being barred from future big tournaments (inc Grand Slams), he still stands up for his principles. This should be applauded! Instead, it’s derided. Well done Novak, please stay strong. Many many of us fully support you 👏👏

    It's incredible that Djokovic is willing to sacrifice his life's work and legacy just to stand up for our freedom of choice... Needless to say, Novak Djokovic has earned more than any other tennis player in history in terms of prize money. The paycheck is the last thing on his mind. Unfortunately too much manipulation by MSM. It's all about freedom of choice and respect to Novak for standing his ground (just like 100,000 health workers in UK who said 'no' to vax mandate). Dr John Campbell showed that natural immunity is more effective than the vax. I too am not vaxxed and many others but vaxxed or not we must unite to uphold the human right to bodily autonomy. It's the common sense thing to do.

  • @goranlojancic8420

    For a couple of thousands years we know some basic rules about totalitarian rules:
    1. Be afraid and do what we tell you because there is enemy around.
    2. Sacrifice for a common or greater good but exactly in a way we tell you, you mustn't improvise.
    3. Do what everybody else is doing and don't stand out.
    4. Your choices and opinions don't matter because we are in special circumstances.
    5. If you reject any of these previous four we will crash you as an example.
    I am not saying the Novak is some kind of the poster face for freedom of choice or freedom, at least not intentionally, but he indeed exposed how quickly we are ready to give up on our basic needs and freedoms simply because we are told to do so, even when messages form the top of political food chain are clumsy, contradicted and poorly organized into some kind of the logical continuity. I am fully vaccinated, with buster, and will continue to regularly take vaccine if Covic-19 becomes endemic disease. I just don't understand how on earth we came so easy and quickly to the point of belief that if one tennis player, regardless how popular and famous is, refuse to get along, everybody else will be stupid enough to do exactly what one tennis player did. Probably close to 90% of people in the world would get vaccine if they are able to do so this way or another. This whole thing with twisting the arms of people into submission is either utterly stupid or shows how little confidence in human common sense politicians have. Makes me wonder if this "Djokovic saga" has anything to do with vaccines at all.

    • @amylundy8664
      @amylundy8664 2 года назад

      You make some really interesting points & raise a few great questions. But I wonder if 90% of the world would take a vaccine if they could. Here in the US, anyone can. Vaccines are free and everywhere. People can even choose their brand. And yet, only about like 65% have.

    • @goranlojancic8420
      @goranlojancic8420 2 года назад +1

      @@amylundy8664 If it was played right from the beginning I am sure percent would be closer to what I have suggested. By playing right I mean clear and responsible messages, doctors and not politicians in a front line explaining, lack of exaggerated promises about what vaccine can actually do, etc. In these circumstances I believe that "your" percentage is closer to the reality. Plus, unequal global distribution of vaccines made them bit redundant in terms of effect on spreading due to constant appearances of new strains that learned how to bypass mRNA vaccines.
      Honestly, I first opted for 80%, which is probably more realistic, but then asked myself what would have happened if vaccines were not presented to public in almost biblical proportions that turned a lot of people against them when it became clear that their effect is somewhat limited. In my country (Serbia) during first months of vaccination people were waiting in long cues for hours to be vaccinated but as time was passing by interest started to fade.
      Djokovic Australian saga was a very good micro example of the type of management that is hovering over many decisions made during pandemic. One of the main reasons is the often neglected fact that from the very beginning to the very end of the Saga not one single decision was made based on the very issue that was in the centre of the entire story - Djokovic vaccination status. He was allowed, detained, allowed again by court and deported on account of unclear visa procedures, political estimates of the gain from responding to public outcry, court hearings and finally basically ridiculous perception of his effect on public sentiment of one entire continent. In short words, we managed to make a global news around something that shouldn't have been the problem at all in a first place. I fail to see how or if anyone benefited from anything that happened.
      By the way, I want to use this opportunity to congratulate all three of you for phenomenal coverage of the major tennis issues. You probably never intended it but this "Big Three" can stand for three of you as well. I am happy I found your channel.

    This comment is so dated no one will likely read it. I am an annoyingly huge Novak fan. I always wanted him to take the jab. My reasoning was very much along the lines of 'the common good' argument Amy alluded to. Serbia was one of the least vaccinated countries in the world. Novak, as their national hero, could have been the catalyst that had many of his countrymen and fans worldwide get vaccinated and save lives.
    I am of course thrilled he is at 24 and almost 400 weeks #1.

    Of course there could be new information regarding the mRna vaccines in the long term! Most people who are hesitant refer to the absence of long term data; historically vaccine trials take a few years whereas these ones did not. You kind of insinuate that the only reason why he is waiting is that he thinks he still has a few years and hopefully his body will still be in peak condition, which somewhat slanders him? I think that he would have made the same decision, even if the prospect of him playing in any tournaments in the next few years was completely in doubt, but I may be wrong. I was never a Djokovic fan, but as many seem to be saying, I see a man who has his principals and who sticks to it - integrity, a rare trait in todays world and definately not an easy position to be in!!!!!
    To label him stubborn would seem to me to be a childish sentiment. I think this issue is too big and too complicated - he is giving up A LOT to stick to his principals. Also to comment on the individual vs the common good - it can only be for the common good if it is effective at curtailing infection/transmission - does not seem to be the case, especially if the most highly vaccinated/boosted countries are exactly the countries with the highest infection rates (eg. Israel).

I lean towards the opinion that he might regret it in the future, it kinda reminds of the situation back when he didn't want to undergo a sugery. But it is what is. If someone hasn't watched the interview yet, I'd recommend choosing audio version on Spotify or BBC website, because this TV version was edited and some thoughtful Nole's qouates were cut out. WOW! Did not expect this strong conviction win out based on Novak's having gotten surgery after he DID NOT WANT to have surgery for his career and legacy. It's only when our convictions and principals are tested, that we really know! Looks like I was mistaken. Nole has picked his Principals over Politics and career Play in 2022. He will drop from being #1 sometime in the next few weeks/month & then miss the remainder of the 2022 season GS’s. Let’s see what Wimbledon, Roland Garros & Flushing Meadow decide about their rules ~ I’m prognosticating 90/10 or 95/5 that all players will have to be vaxed in 2022 for the remaining 3 GS’s competitions. Needing more information does not seem relevant unless we look at Immunology, Epidiomolgy & clinical issues with RNA-based vax's versus classical vax's which will require years/decades of data to unpack. The human immue system and I believe natural immunity will ALWAYS be superior. That said, vaccines have been crucial in keeping people alive and keeping people from getting rerally ill. What bothers me is people, who support Novak's decision, are saying the other tennis players are "sheep" "followers" "weak" for taking the vaccine. That really bothers me. Perhaps just a few players did get vaccinated so they can play in tournaments (I actually don't know if any did) but there are players who actually believe in medical science and chose to take the vaccine based on that belief. Just because Novak chose a certain path doesn't make him smarter, wiser or more intelligent from someone who took a different path. The bottom line is; there are people who want this pandemic to end and they also believe in medical science. Stop labeling those people are "sheep" or any other derogatory term.

    After seeing the full interview (versus the two clips in the original article) I believe the interviewer did an excellent job overall. I'm still quite mixed about Novak's sharing in this interview. He still seems emotionally disconnected. I mean if McEnroe and Connors went up in arms with the goings ons in Australia this year, then one would think Novak would have something to say. If I'm right, when he comes back he may not be at his best. And if one looks at Nadal still being around, how much FAA has improved in such a short time, and Medvedev continuing to grow, Novak maybe ought not assume he can just take more slams at all. All that said I'm a huge Djokovic fan and want to see him continuing to shine! Some editing going on in this episode? So curious how the show got cut and re-started just after Amy discussed briefly her decision to get fully vaccinated herself. Amy was kind of giggling upon the resumption so trying to guess how it got cut there and why. 🙂

      Sure. I’ll tell you. For one thing I got a dry throat at the end there & was trying not to cough 😷🤣
      Secondly, the 3 of us agreed before the show that we didn’t want to re-litigate Novak’s Australian drama because we did several shows on that in January. That said, our show is unscripted. Gill posed a question about Alex Hawke. I made the comment that I thought it was pretty clear Novak would not “stir anti-vax sentiment” … so we ended up going back to Australia, which we really did not intend to do. Too much else to discuss. I quickly steered the conversation back to future tournaments, and that’s where we picked it back up.

    I respect Novak as a tennis player. I accept that it's his choice whether or not to be vaccinated. But let's be real here: the 'sacrifice' he's making is to refuse a life-saving vaccine that 40% of the world's population hasn't even been given a chance to access. I used to root for Novak most of the time, but I doubt I will any more. Whether he likes it or not, Novak is a public figure, and people are going to be influenced by his decision, which may not be anti-vax in the strictest sense, but definitely flies in the face of the abundant scientific information we have. Some things are more important than tennis, including public health. When this pandemic ends (hopefully soon), it will be no thanks to him. He's taking a principled stand no doubt, but in my opinion it's a wrong one, and will cause harm.
    Great episode Amy, Joel, Gill... enjoyed the discussion.

      Totally disagree - this is not a real vaccine - it does not prevent you from getting the virus, but helps those with compromised immune systems to recover from it. It is not necessary at this stage for Novak to risk getting the vaccine. FYI at this stage the vaccine is pretty much useless against the present variant- Omicron. The pandemic is now an endemic and as Novak has natural immunity, he does not need the vaccine. He is totally capable of making an informed decision.

  • @borisnahalka3027

    yes, now we know, that Novak is (arrogantly) sure, that he will be winning majors after the pandemic is over, so he can wait. I respect his integrity and his resolve and his belief in himself, but ultimately what it shows me is that he thinks of himself as a kind of superman and that may backfire big time. just for disclosure: I'm a fan of Novak's tennis, I'm not a fan of Novak's personality.
    see, I didn't want to take a shot, but I was forced to if I wanted to keep my job. Novak has the luxury to wait and see. maybe better vaccine, maybe covid retreat, whatever, but it doesn't resonate well with people who do not have this luxury. it all goes down with this. Novak is strongly believing, that in say, 2 years' time he will be winning majors and Rafa will not. that, in my opinion, is his reasoning and he might be right and he might be wrong. only time will tell.
    big 3 competing at the same major again? Wimbledon if we are lucky, the US open if we are very lucky.

      If you are vaccinated, why are you worried? Don't you trust the vaccine to protect you? Novak would be the safest person to be around - he has strong natural immunity. Why aren't you talking about that, or the young athletic guys who have died from myocarditis after getting the vaccine. Novak is the smart one for not being a sheep and a bully like so many .
