Thx for the clarifications between those 2 types of edge banding. I could not find any tutorial about the 1mm not pre-glue edging I bought. Eventually I don't have this glue at hand now, but what types of glue can we really use for this?
If you don't have the spray adhesive at hand, the other alternative is to use the contact glue which you can buy in various size tins. This will need to be applied by brush to both surfaces, waiting till touch dry, then sticking together carefully as seen on the video. Great video. I like the look better of the PVC edging, how does it hold up with the spray glue, I'd imagine it probably lifts I'd it in an area above the stove or something?
If you purchase a good brand spray adhesive it should hold up well. Above a stove should be okay providing there isn't a constant build up of moisture say, from steam and the edges of the cabinet door are always dripping (that would be extreme and your exhaust fan is not doing it's job!)
I round the corners using a sanding block then wipe clean with edge cleaner. When edging doors for example it depends what is seen first as to weather I edge the long side or short side first. E.g. if the doors are exposed and you see the side of them then I would do the short side then the long side last so it covers and that’s the final surface you would see, if that makes sense.

I prefer to use the 300mm/12” planer blades as you can control them a lot easier and also because of the long length it runs flat along your material better giving you a more flush finish on each edge. As for using an iron edge on an inside curve, that may be difficult as the iron won’t run flat along it. You might be better of doing this with the 1mm edge tape and contact glue. Try heating the edge tape up with a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the edge tape (where the curve area is) this will make it more playable when going on around the inside corner. Make sure you use something flat to also press it in so you eliminate any gaps between the edge tape and the shelf edge. Keep watching thanks again
You could try but may not get as good results as the warm iron melts the glue on the under side as well as providing a flat surface helping to press down the edge tape. Yes I think it’s a good idea using a router table (have you seen my table build?) hint, hint, you just have to make sure you get it set up perfect with a lot of trial runs. That's very informative! I do have a question though. We have some unpained mdf cabinet doors. I want to paint the fronts and apply the iron-on tape onto the sides. Which would I do first? I have a feeling that if I painted the fronts first, the cutter would scratch the paint off
Hi Michael Yes I would definitely edge first then paint, you would probably see a colour difference also if you didn’t when opening the doors…something else to consider 👍

No for 1-2mm edging I always use a contact glue method were I prepare both surfaces with the glue, wait till touch dry then apply. I only use 0.5mm pre-glued with an iron otherwise the whole process gets time consuming

Put the iron on the highest setting, usually linen or cotton, so it’s HOT. As for the sand paper, obviously use a fine grade so you don’t rub through you newly created edge too quickly (say 240-320 Grit) good luck with your project
Hi there, I haven’t had to fuss to much in regards to cleaning it, the roller mainly gets strings of glue on it which can easily be peeled off. The beauty of this machine and the glue puck system is it only heats up what it needs not like the cheaper Chinese versions which take small glue pellets. With those type of systems they have a glue pot set up which heats up and cools down when your finished with the machine. That’s the main issue with those type and why you eventually get crusty bits from the burnt or dried out glue in the pot which turned me off. Melamine board will generally come in max thickness of around 34mm (usually used for benchtop substrate) and the edging machine has a capacity of around 60mm

With the chamfer tool, the 1mm/0.6mm is referring to the size of chamfer it’s going to produce.

Can we paint the melamine edge?
Yes why not, but seeing it is plastic you will need to lightly sand it back and prepare it for whatever coating you want to use

I guess if you want too, you may have issues with the paint sticking properly on PVC/Plastic...
The thing is as far as I'm aware you cannot iron on 2mm edging and 2mm looks way nicer than 1mm
Umm, get an edge bander. Biesse Akron to be specific. That is how I edge band. Bahahahahahaha.XD
