@@DannyLoyd → NO MURDERER HAS ETERNAL LIFE ABIDING IN HIM (1 JOHN 3:15) No Murderer Has Eternal Life Abiding in Him (1 John 3:15) March 19, 2019 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - 1 John 3:15, Abiding, Assurance, Fellowship, Perseverance, Transformation A reader who likes our magazine wrote, asking us to take him off our subscription list: It is with sadness I ask you to remove me from your mailing list. I truly love your materials. But 1 John is fairly clear that there has to be transformation in your life or eternal life simply doesn’t abide in you. So, in good conscience, I can’t continue reading the magazine. Please unsubscribe me. It hurts to get notes like that. But we did take him off our subscription list as requested. His note has an implied question in it. What does it mean for eternal life to abide in someone? In his view it means that the person is living a transformed life. Well, let’s look at the Scriptures he is alluding to in 1 John. 1 John 3:15. “Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.” Here is how Zane Hodges explains that in his commentary: Hatred of one’s brother is not only an experience of death; it is also an experience of murder. The person who hates his Christian brother is really no different from Cain (cf. verse 12), even though he may not commit the overt act of physically killing his brother. The spirit of hatred is that we want “to be rid” of our brother and would not really care if he died. But this is the spirit of a murderer. Someone will perhaps meet the apostle John in the kingdom and ask him, ‘‘What did you mean when you said that ‘no murderer has eternal life’? What about King David?” If so, John will certainly reply, “I never said, ‘No murderer has eternal life.’ What I said was, ‘No murderer has eternal life abiding in him.’” Once again, the key to this text is the concept of “abiding” (see discussion above under verse 14). Moreover, John’s concept of abiding is always that it is a reciprocal relationship, even as Jesus said: ‘‘Abide in Me, and I in you” (John 15:4; see discussion under 1 John 2:27). Since Christ Himself is eternal life (cf. 1 John 5:20), to say that someone does not have eternal life abiding in him is equivalent to saying that he does not have Christ abiding in him. Clearly, in the subsection concluded by this verse, John has been stigmatizing hatred for one’s brother as an action that separates the Christian from all real experience of the eternal life which he possesses as one who has “passed from death to life.” Although eternal life is the possession of each and every believer in Christ (cf. 1 John 5:1), hatred of one’s brother reflects the spirit of a murderer who is “abiding” in a realm of death where all vital experience with God’s life is lost (Hodges, 1-3 John, pp. 159-60). 1 John 3:17. “But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?” This verse is essentially parallel with v 15. If we as believers do not give to our brothers and sisters in need, then the love of God does not abide in us. Of course, the love of God is another way of speaking of everlasting life. Jesus is called everlasting life in 1 John 1:2 5:20. And we read in 1 John 4:16 that “God is love.” Note in 1 John 4:12, “If we love one another, God abides in us…” Hodges comments: But the Christian who acts so uncompassionately is not having a vital experience of God’s love. John’s rhetorical question, how does the love of God abide in him? means simply that God’s love does not abide in him. The calloused action of refusing help to his needy brother, even though he possesses the means, this world’s goods, is clear evidence that here is one in whom neither Christ, eternal life, nor the love of God are “abiding.” As Brown puts it, “The person described…is blocking the movement of divine love, which would lead him to treat his brother as Christ treated us, so divine love does not junction in such a person” [Raymond Brown, The Epistles of John, p. 450, italics added]. The uncompassionate Christian is not walking as his Master walked (cf. 2:6) and thus is not living the abiding life (Hodges, 1-3 John, pp. 161-62). The word abide (menō in Greek) is very common in 1 John. He uses it twenty-one times. Abiding is a key fellowship term for John (and for the Lord Jesus in John 14-15). While it is true that only believers in Christ can have everlasting life, God, and God’s love abiding in them, it is not true that God is always abiding in all believers. First John is an appeal to mature believers to continue to abide in Christ so that when He returns we will have confidence and not shame (1 John 2:28). We at GES promote the importance of a transformed life (Rom 12:2; 2 Cor 3:18). But to experience such a life one must abide in God’s Word (John 15:7; 1 John 2:14, 24). That is why we teach what God’s Word says, even when that teaching is not consistent with the popular theology of our day.

There were some church fathers and others who believed in some kind of eternal security before the Reformation. I've discussed some examples in a four-part series at Triablogue titled "Extrabiblical, Pre-Reformation Support For Eternal Security".
I don’t want to hear what the “Church Fathers” had to say, I want to hear what God’s Word has to say. And my God is capable of conveying what He wants us to know through His Word. Jesus spoke of these rascals. Matthew 15:5-9 “But ye say, Whosoever shall say to his father or his mother, It is a gift, by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; And honour not his father or his mother, he shall be free. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of none effect by your tradition. Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying, This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.”
Sidenote: Augustine did not actually teach "once saved, always saved." He did believe that a Christian could apostasize, so Mr. Bercot is incorrect in his assertion
If OSAS is false then why did Jesus die? God sent his only Son to die once, period! Once you’re saved, truly saved, then nothing can snatch us out of Gods’ hand! We don’t have to keep getting resaved but we do need to repent
You are correct. The reason so many fail to understand the Biblical truth of once saved always saved is because these people are not saved. They all remain totally spiritually dead and blind.
Jesus did not "pray" for the whole [entire] world, but [*only] for those given to Him by His Father to be Eternally Saved, and receive the Free Gift of Everlasting Life.. ● John 17 : 9 ● Romans 9 : 14 - 24
These people confuse salvation and fellowship. Their confusion causes them to deny Jesus' work at the cross, deny the purpose of the Holy Spirit in the Church, and demands God have fellowship with sin based on a curve grading system. 0-3
I agree with you and Scripture. If we could lose our salvation then why does the Scriptures say the following? Hebrews 12:6-9 “For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?” 1 Corinthians 5:5 “To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.” Essentially a salvage sub-contractor. He paid a dear price for us and saved Christians are extremely valuable to Him. The flesh is corrupt, however, the soul that He saved is of extreme value to Him.
God chastises us when we get off track, because He loves us and wants us to persevere in the faith. If we ignore His chastisement, that's on us. Hebrews 10 is very clear on this. "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.... For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries"
@@theTavis01 Hebrews 10:11-14 “And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered ONE sacrifice for sins FOR EVER, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by ONE offering he hath perfected FOR EVER them that are sanctified.” There is no more sacrifice for sins because one Sacrifice covered it all. Matthew 5:17 “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.” When you were born to your mother you will always be her son, no matter what your relationship is with her. When you are born again you become Gods son. Nothing can change that. You will always be His son. There is a huge difference between kinship and relationship. They are two totally different things. Jesus died for all of our sins, one time. Hebrews 10:27 isn’t talking about Hell, (fiery anger) it is talking about judgement against a rebellious son. (Just like baptism isn’t always talking about water). Severe judgment 1 Corinthians 5:5 “To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.” So if a person commits continual sin, why would 1:Corinthians 5:5 say “…that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus”? Relationship and kinship are two different things. John 3:6 “That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” The only difference is that one is flesh and one is spirit.
@@privatepilot4064 "There is no more sacrifice for sins because one Sacrifice covered it all." No, that's not at all what it is saying. It is saying that Jesus' sacrifice no longer applies "When you are born again you become Gods son." That's right! "Nothing can change that." Nothing EXTERNAL has the power to change that, correct. We can still choose to reject God though and walk away from the faith. Romans 8:38-39 is describing EXTERNAL phenomena "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." Praise God! I read that verse at my baptism, it is so beautiful. But it says nothing about being somehow prevented from walking away if that's really what you want to do. "You will always be His son." If you endure in your faith, that is correct! Romans 8:23 "Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body." 2 Peter 1:10-11 "Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ." "it is talking about judgement against a rebellious son. " No that is incorrect. That is what you quoted, from Chapter 12. Chapter 10 describes specifically a "fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries." That's not chastisement, that's the second death. That is why Paul finishes the passage with "It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God." OSAS demonstrates zero fear. Ziltch. Nada. "Jesus died for all of our sins, one time" That's right! But unless you are a universalist who thinks all people are automatically saved no matter what, you must acknowledge that there are criteria involved in accepting this gracious offer. Those conditions are faith and love. Those are not one-time things, but if we want to follow Jesus it is a lifelong commitment of faith and love. We must endure in those, daily picking up our cross and choosing Him over the world. The Bible literally says nothing about a one time thing, and people pretend that's true in an attempt to give themselves reassurance, but you never have any real assurance at all because how do you know if you really had the "right" moment of faith for your "once saved" to really be "always saved." In very stark contrast, enduring in your faith gives you much assurance, because you feel how close God is, and you know that even if your faith hasn't been perfect, if you choose God then He will accept you through His grace. "So if a person commits continual sin, why would 1:Corinthians 5:5 say " Because it says so that they MAY be saved. Like chastisement, God is giving them opportunity to repent. "Relationship and kinship are two different things." Sure pal. I have no idea what you think that means, but it's not in the Bible. Our relationship to God in heaven is also described as a wedding, when the two become one. If you think you're going to pull a legal technicality on God, you're going to be in for quite a shock!
@@theTavis01 Your argument isn’t with me. I provided the Scripture. I didn’t get indignant with you, but simply and respectfully provided Scripture. 2 Corinthians 6:2 “(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the DAY OF SALVATION have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the DAY of salvation.)” 2 Timothy 1:12 “For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that HE IS ABLE TO KEEP THAT (not me, but Him) which I have committed unto him against THAT DAY.” What day? The day I was spiritually birthed. Ephesians 1:13-14 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were SEALED with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession (our bodies), unto the praise of his glory.” Kinship means being part of a family. Relationship is the way two or more people behave toward each other. Kinship and relationship is found throughout the Scriptures. You can’t have a relationship with your Father if you are not part of His family. So if you don’t behave properly toward your mother then you are no longer her son? She may discipline you however you will still be her son. Once you are born to her you can not reverse that. Once you are born again, likewise you can not reverse that. John 3:4-6 “Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water (not baptism, it’s when your mothers water broke) and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” Birth is a one way trip. Once you’re out you can’t go back in. No matter what you do. You quoted Romans 8:38-39 “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” I’m IN Christ Jesus. John 10:28-29 “And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any MAN pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and NO MAN is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.” I’m a man, you’re a man. And He gives us eternal life and we shall never perish. Do we have the power to pluck ourselves out of His hand? Not according to that. No man means no one. Including me or you. And He said it twice. Ephesians 5:30 “For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.” You quoted, It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God, it was a fearful thing when my Dad came home from work and I knew I was getting a spanking. Likewise with God my Father. But I was still part of the family, no matter what I did. God the Father doesn’t throw us out either. Hebrews 10:11-14 is saying that Jesus’ sacrifice DOES apply. It says it twice. In verse 12 and 14 it says His sacrifice was for sins FOREVER. (When I capitalize I’m not yelling, I’m emphasizing). Hebrews 10:17 “And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.” Actually, all of Hebrews chapter 10 makes verses 11-14 make much more sense.

Bob concedes the first point here. I wouldn't, and I don't think his mentor Zane Hodges would have either. What we see in the historical record is not the actual traditions of the past, it's the subset of traditions that we have historical record of. Based on the poverty of records from that era, there is scarce evidence that today's "traditions" even vaguely emulate the traditions of that time. The poverty of records provides a very straightforward lever for unclean spirits to use to influence and distort the plain message of Scripture. All they need to do is destroy the old texts that represent traditions of the truth. Even within the New Testament, the conflict between the Alexandrian and Antiochan text types demonstrates doctrinal meddling. Ultimately, Scripture IS the record of the correct traditions. Seeking "traditions" outside of it is seeking the work of Satan. A distinction to be made is between Christianity-of-the-trenches (eg. low-church scriptural gospel-preachers) and Christianity-of-the-scribes (eg. academic Dispensationalists, monastics). Would Paul have written his epistles if he was not incarcerated? Eternal security is a Christianity-of-the-trenches teaching. In John 5:24, John records Jesus as teaching that he who believes has passed from death into life. So, here we have a clear teaching of eternal security. 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 ought to be a red-flag for those seeking extra-Scriptural traditions, to say nothing of Christ's depictions of the scribes: woeful fools akin to the Pharisees. The Heresy of Orthodoxy by Andreas J. Köstenberger and Michael J. Kruger provides a great documentation of how incoherent early "tradition" was, and The Doctrine of Grace in the Apostolic... by Thomas F. Torrance demonstrates how quickly after Christ's death (the direct disciples of Christ did admirably, everyone after discernibly falls away) we can see divergence in the teachings of the church.
The church fathers writings contradict each other so often it’s ridiculous. One moment it’s the Eucharist is literal the next it’s symbolic, one minute baptisms saves the next it’s a declaration of faith. The church father writings are too fallible and clearly tampered with and corrupted to be treated as a reliable source to get doctrine from. Funny how miticulous Christian’s are with making sure there’s absolutely no errors in the NT as there isn’t any, but they’ll completely trust a clearly tampered with source to back their false doctrine because they know it has no scriptural standing.
The fact is, what the world knows as the church has nothing whatsoever to do with the gospel, nor the Christianity of the Bible. If anyone is actually a Christian they will not have anything whatsoever to do with anything called the/a church.
@@DannyLoyd ,...Correct! The church fathers are those who went out from the apostles but were not of the apostles. Excellent clarification Bob . Works Salvation makes no sense whatsoever . One must sacrifice Sola Scriptura (The Bible alone) as the authority - ironically - in order to be convinced of the Perseverance until death in an Unknowable level of hopefully good enough behavioral performance (works) to be rewarded with/earn/be paid with entrance into His Kingdom . These otherwise highly credentialed "Scholars" ultimately believe the impossible : that their Perseverance in Performance is decisive in their eternal destination .
it's perseverance in FAITH, not perseverance in "performance." The dishonesty of this false dichotomy is stunning. Was it a work the FIRST time you came to faith? No? Then why would it be work to CONTINUE in your faith? Makes literally zero sense. The documentary made this exceedingly clear as well.
@@theTavis01 Faith is not works . You're clearly equivocating . Faith is not repentance (turning from all sins till death) . Faith is being convinced of any given proposition . Eternal Justification before God is only by the singular means of acquiring the endless Righteousness that He imputes to all who believe in Him for eternal life : ..."therefore it (eternal Justification before God) is by faith that it might be ACCORDING TO GRACE that the Promise would be Certain" (Romans 4:16) . Doubtless certitude of the present possession of Everlasting Life that cannot be lost is the definition of faith in Jesus . Conversely , unbelief in Him (John 3:18) for what He actually Certifies (John 3:16,5:24,11:23-27) looks instead to wholly fallible and purely subjective metrics (one's hopefully... but never certain...level of performance till death) . So , your attempts to transmute a merit free instrument (faith/belief) into a lifelong perseverance in an Unknowable level (%) of hopefully good enough behavioral performance (faithfulness/repentance/obedience/works) has zero Exegetical support . There's not a single passage in Scripture that affirms your proposition . There's nothing remotely logical nor Exegetical in the presuppositions of Conditional "security" (a textbook incoherence) . It turns Jesus - and the inspired writers of Scripture - into liars . The Object and Content of one's faith whereby one is irreversibly born again is the quintessential issue . Your/their Object and Content clearly denies the Objective certitude of the possession of irrevocable Everlasting Life this side of the grave . Rather , one is left Topping Out at DOUBT of one's Everlasting destination , the antithesis of assurance (faith) . The Object and Content therefore looks to one's "hopefully good enough behavioral performance" (faithfulness/obedience/fruitfulness/works) , instead of His free and undeserving Gift . That is patently contradictory to every conceivable Evangelistic/Everlasting Life/Justification before God passage in the Bible : John 1:12-13,3:1-18,4:10-14,5:24,6:28-47,10,11:23-27,20:31 ; Acts 16:31 ; 1 John 5:1,10-13 ; Galatians 2:16,3:26 ; 1 Timothy 1:16 ; Ephesians 2:8-9 ; Romans 3:20-5:11,11:6,29 ; Titus 3:5 ; Philippians 3:9 ; book of Galatians . As such , all who hold to Perseverance in Performance till death cannot qualify nor quantify their assertion . Nor have you done so , very obviously .
@@soljos1190 "one's hopefully... but never certain...level of performance till death" Like I said, you are trying to force this into a FALSE dichotomy of faith vs works. The question is, do we need to endure in our FAITH? Not works. Faith. Got it? "There's not a single passage in Scripture that affirms your proposition" That is mind-numbingly wrong. You just make excuses for all the verses which CLEARLY talk about the need to endure in our faith. For example, when Jesus says "the one who endure to the end will be saved" and "Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life... I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown." And Paul says "stand firm in the faith" and "If we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us;" "a lifelong perseverance in an Unknowable level (%) of hopefully good enough behavioral performance " Ugh. Faith is NOT behavioral performance. It's faith. And the SAME exact thing can be said of OSAS - how do you know you achieved "real" faith at one magic moment??? If you can answer that, you can ABSOLUTELY know if you are enduring in your faith or not. "instead of His free and undeserving Gift" Enduring in faith is CONTINUING to trust in God's gracious gift, instead of taking it for granted. "Your/their Object and Content clearly denies the Objective certitude of the possession of irrevocable Everlasting Life" none of that verbage is actually found in the Bible.

2 Timothy 2:12] IF we endure, we will also reign with him. IF we disown him, he will also disown us; IF we deny Him he will deny us. IF you walk away from the Savior rejecting Him you are damned. He will renounce you. Matthew 10:33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven. 2 Timothy 2:13 IF we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself. It does not mean He will remain faithful to you otherwise deny in v-12 would mean nothing. IF you are faithless and throw it away, you're not a believer. He is faithful to Himself. The way he vindicated Himself is by throwing you out. God values His trustworthiness and IF you decide I'm going to go my own way to a life of sin you no longer trust in Him. He's faithful to the worth of His name. The way God vindicates His trustworthiness to those who reject it, its called hell. Don't fool yourself with your unbelief by thinking God's still faithful to me He is faithful He cannot deny Himself, that's who He is faithful to. IF you hold to Jesus saying you are trustworthy you are everything to me, acknowledge you're just a hopeless sinner He cannot deny you. Your security is as firm as His allegiance is to His name.
You believe in yourself , since you don't believe in Him FOR His doubtless Guarantee of irrevocable Everlasting Life (John 3:16 & Ephesians 2:8-9) .That's the Object and Content of your works righteousness soteriology , as follows : 1.Repentance (turning from all sins till death) which eventuates in your perseverance in an Unknowable level (%) of hopefully good enough behavioral performance (works) . 2. Physical Water Baptism . 3. Continuous "faith" till death (even while sinning (?) ... how's that work exactly ?) in self selected attributes//DBR . That's undeniable . Yet , Scripture contains no passage stating : "Whosoever repents (turns from all sins till death and perseveres till death in an Unknowable level of hopefully good enough behavioral performance (works) /Is Physically Water Baptized/Continuously believes (in self selected attributes/DBR) ...even while sinning (?) ...shall be paid with/earn/merit/be rewarded with entrance into His Kingdom" . Your complete inability to articulate how "good ya gotta be" till death , is affirming the impossible , but lays bare the utter Unknowabilty of ever possessing the free and meritless Gift of Everlasting Life , this side of the grave . That anyone can find the above affirmation convincing is as tragic as it is continuing evidence of 2 Corinthians 4:4 .
I know that a YT comment will be unpersuasive to anyone convinced, but for those that stumbled on this video, who like myself, have researched this topic and have debated it internally, here's a different point of view. No,"tradition" should be the principal argument to define something as right or wrong, early history from the early patristic era does at least point us to what was considered common belief and IF our beliefs do suddenly diverge from those, then they should do so based upon solid biblical doctrine. There were many accretions that crept in during the 3-4th century that were departures from the apostolic and early patristic eras, so IF a new doctrine emerges, we should absolutely question the motivation and the authenticity of the teaching/doctrine and poignantly ask "why". Once saved always saved (Eternal Security) in the sense that if a person gets "saved" they cannot do or believe in anything to become "unsaved" or apostate, is a point of great contention, both with history AND with most denominations, this is not in doubt. However, I think it's important to understand the division for many is not over "faith" or "works plus faith" dichotomies as are posited by the content creator. I don't wrestle with being saved through "faith" alone (in Christ) as works extend from my faith and aren't the source of my salvation but evidence of it. I DO however, have a huge problem (logically and more important Bibilically) with the idea that a person cannot "unbelieve" something. When I was a child, there were many things that I believed and I "changed my heart/mind" on afterwards. Lots of kids believed in Santa or the Easter Bunny only to later reject those beliefs. I am not fixed to any specific belief in that once I have believed it, I cannot change it. One can change their mind on politics, social issues, scientific issues....marriages end because one spouse strays and/or "falls out of love" with the other. Yet, if I take ES to it's logical conclusion, GOD locks believers into a non-escape clause and will drag them kicking and screaming to heaven? As hard as it is to imagine, there simply are those who don't want to go. Additionally, ES is inconsistent with both Old Testament precedent/parallels, and New Testament teaching as well, and was, in all likelihood, not believed by the largest part of the early church and patristic teachers. So, if we are going to diverge from that, we'd better know for certain how and why and that our footing is firm. Also, John 3:16's use of "believe" is a present action and doesn't have an expiration attached to it. It does NOT say "believed" (past tense) but "believes" (present tense). It requires presently active faith. If I am drowning and someone throws me a life jacket and I put it on and I'm no longer drowning, I am "saved" as I have actively placed my faith in the life preserver and am demonstrating my faith by wearing it. IF I remove it because I lost my faith in it, I drown. I may be free to do many things while wearing the life preserver, even swimming in dangerous waters, but I will not drown as my life preserver will preserve my life. However, "losing my faith" in the device by choosing to place my faith in my new found swimming ability or by choosing to put my faith in the new life preserver marketing by "steel weights are us" will result in my demise. I could provide a hundred real-world examples of this same thing but I won't....the point is made. In the OT the Israelites "believed" to leave Egypt but not when they were starving in the desert. They believed when GOD gave them manna but not when they were told to conquer the promised land. Their faith ended when it was convenient to do so until GOD did something else and then guess what they later waned again. Nearly ALL of them perished and the only ones who inherited the promise were those who kept their faith until their end.... This is a consistent, inescapable theme throughout the OT and NT, again not a perseverance of "works" or "deeds" to earn salvation but simply by placing our faith in Jesus. There is a, sadly, popular movement today to "deconstruct" one's faith and renounce faith in Jesus. Some even get "unbaptized" and seek to convert Christians to their newfound faith in self. These are people who once believed, or at least professed such belief. Some were preachers/pastors/teachers/worship leaders. Many of these are now as adamant about their unbelief as they once appeared about their belief. If I were to accept ES though, once they have "believed" they are now bound to Christ and no amount of "unbelief" will make them apostate. Sorry, but I don't see that in scripture. Perhaps because we only get a few decades between Mark and Revelation (linear time) and many early Christians would rather die than "de-convert" although history shows some later did. One could argue that they never believed, but that too requires a logical leap into the realm of knowing the heart of another on a matter first but then also requires me to overlook the fact that I've changed my mind on many issues in my lifetime and makes me a judge over another's heart, something I am not privy to. Eternal security, in this context, requires one to re-interpret numerous passages in often extraordinary ways in order to fit one's doctrine, instead of deriving our doctrine from scripture. As such, it should be rejected as Biblically coherent in this way. Many who try to argue ES will do so from "you're trying to make salvation of works" which is a strawman argument. The issue is not one of works plus faith vs faith alone when it comes to our salvation in Christ. It's about who we put our faith in CONTINUALLY. Do I believe Christ can and will save me? If so, then my actions WILL reflect my character. However, if I choose to no longer place my faith in Christ or place it in my own ability to save myself or in another prophet or teacher as the source of my salvation, then I'd become an apostate and would find myself among the goats instead of the sheep!

What we see in the historical record is not the actual traditions of the past, it's the subset of traditions that we have record of. Based on the poverty of records from that era, there is scarce evidence that today's "traditions" even vaguely emulate the traditions of that time. These traditions certainly were not monolithic. A distinction to be made is between Christianity-of-the-trenches and Christianity-of-the-scribes. Would Paul have written his epistles if he was not incarcerated? Just because they are the majority doesn’t make them correct. Jesus plainly tells us this and warns us. Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” With their own mouths they condemn themselves. Jesus did it ALL for us on Calvary. Once we’re born into the family of God we are always in the family of God. No different than our physical birth. Nothing can change that. There is a huge difference between kinship and relationship. Kinship can not be changed, relationship can be changed.

@alexgarratt3808 Believe in the present tense means going on believing by faithfulness. There are no promises for those who hear only and don't obey but only for those who hear and obey. James 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Romans 11 is the clearest example I know that we can depart from the faith. The New Testament says that we follow a law of faith which is proven to be genuine by what we say and do. Faith is a pattern of living not simply a belief in the heart (as so many examples throughout the New and Old Testaments bear witness to). In Romans 9, Paul wishes that he himself could be cut off, separated from God forever, if it would mean his Jewish brothers could come to know Jesus. There is no ambiguity about what cut off means. In the Old Testament, being cut off meant cut off from the covenant people, damned. So when in Romans 11, Paul warns not to be complacent because if God didn't spare the natural branches for their unbelief, neither would he spare us if we do the same. Romans 11: 22-33 "But if you stop trusting, you also will be cut off. And if the Jews turn from their unbelief, God will graft them back into the tree again." I know you're confident that you understand, but if if you're wrong on this, then you are teaching a lie and it's a lie that is comforting and leads to complacency and unfortunately, hell. How can you read "cut off" any other way that doesn't throw out it's biblical uses?

There's not a single passage in Scripture that affirms that one can be Un- Born Again (lose Everlasting Life) . Once one receives His endless Gift , acquired purely by childlike faith in Him for His doubtless Guarantee (John 1:12-13,3:1-18,4:10-14,5:24,6:28-47,10,11:23-27,20:31 ; Acts 16:31 ; Galatians 2:16,3:26 ; 1 John 5:1,10-13 : "Shall not perish...has passed from death to life and shall not come into judgement... cannot be plucked from My or the Father's hand...I shall in NO WISE cast out... shall never die...I will never leave you nor forsake you...I shall raise up on the last day" ... ...His doubtless Guarantee contains not the least shred of Doubt . Yet , all who look to their wholly fallible and entirely Unknowable level of perseverance in Performance till death can NEVER rest assured of this unequivocal Certitude . Patent unbelief in Him for what little children can easily understand and believe , instantly having irrevocable Life at that moment .

Box 1308, Denton, TX 76202 About Resources Store Events Seminary → BEING CUT OFF GOD’S OLIVE TREE (ROMANS 11:19-24) Being Cut Off God’s Olive Tree (Romans 11:19-24) March 13, 2020 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - Being Cut Off From The Olive Tree, Eternal Security, OSAS, Romans 11:19-24 You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.” Well said. Because of unbelief they were broken off, and you stand by faith. Do not be haughty, but fear. For if God did not spare the natural branches, He may not spare you either. Therefore, consider the goodness and severity of God: on those who fell, severity; but toward you, goodness, if you continue in His goodness. Otherwise you also will be cut off. And they also, if they do not continue in unbelief, will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again. For if you were cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and were grafted contrary to nature into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, who are natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree? What Was Paul Warning the Believers in Rome About? A few weeks ago, I received this email question from one whom I’ll call NOSAS: Greetings in Christ Jesus, To start, I am thankful for your ministry; it is desperately needed. I may not, to this point in time, agree with all theological positions expressed by GES. I do believe Scripture unquestionably asserts that all are saved by grace through faith without works of any kind, be they front loaded, mid loaded, or back loaded. If any gospel does require works; then it is a false gospel with a false Christ, and it cannot save. I don’t hold to OSAS. Were the definition such that it was understood as I understand Scripture declares it, I would and do hold to it. That declaration being Christ is our LIFE and if we depart from Him in Whom our Life is, and Who is our Life, then there is no life in us. That departure being not believing on or in Him anymore for eternal life in persistent unrepentant unbelief. I believe Scripture through Romans 11:20-24 (and other Scripture) firmly informs us we shall be cut off. Some have said this speaks to the Jews. That assertion seems obviously incorrect; it is speaking to both and then zeroes in on the Gentile believer. I was hoping to get GES’s position on this Scripture. This is a tough question to answer because I agree with most of what NOSAS (not Once Saved, Always Saved) said. Our salvation is not of works, whether before, at the time of, or after faith. That is well said. It is by grace through faith, apart from works. Nice. But then NOSAS says, “If we depart from Him in Whom our Life is, and Whom is our Life, then there is no life in us.” The major problem with this statement is that it contradicts the Lord’s promise in John 3:16; 4:10-14; 5:24; 6:35, 37, 39-40, 47; 11:25-27; and Rev 22:17. The Lord promised that once we believe in Him we will never perish, will never thirst, will never hunger, will never die spiritually, and will never come into judgment concerning our eternal destiny. That is clear and definitive. Three Reasons Why We Know the Issue Is Not Being Cut Off from Eternal Life There are three answers regarding Rom 11:19-24. Answer #1: Whatever it means, it does not contradict the promise of life that the Lord made. Even if we can’t figure out what it means, we can be sure what it does not mean. Answer #2: The context is not about one Jew and one Gentile. It is not about individual Jews and individual Gentiles. It is about Jews as a group and Gentiles as a group. The church age is “the time of the Gentiles” (Luke 21:24). That time will end soon. (Some would say it ended in 1967.) Before the church age, from the time of Abraham onward, was the time of the Jews. But in AD 70, the time of the Jews ended. (Some would say it ended earlier, maybe in AD 33.) Individual Jews have been born again during the church age. Probably millions of Jews have come to faith in the past twenty centuries. There is nothing in Rom 11:19-24 to suggest that an individual Jew ever lost everlasting life or that an individual Gentile ever could. Answer #3. The olive tree does not represent the place of salvation. It represents the place of blessing. See this blog by me for more details. Here is a quote from the just-mentioned blog: In his commentary on Romans, Zane Hodges says concerning Rom 11:20, “Very simply put, should the Gentile world cease to be a responsive instrument for the gospel, God could return His focus to Israel. This would mean the cessation of the present period of Gentile privilege and a return to the original privilege of Israel as the chief vehicle for the divine message” (p. 336). Objections Answered First Objection and Answer. The second person pronoun, you, is used seven times in Rom 11:19-24. All are singulars. That might lead one to conclude that Paul is talking about individual Gentiles being cut off. Maybe that is what confused NOSAS. However, we know that Paul is using you as a collective pronoun. Dictionary.com says, A collective noun refers to a type of noun that encompasses “a whole group as a single entity” as well as the members of that group. It is considered singular in form. For example, words like faculty, herd, and team are collective nouns-they’re singular words but represent a group. There are collective nouns for people, animals, objects, and concepts. The same is true with pronouns. Whenever a pronoun is used in reference to a group as a whole (rather than to the individuals within the group), a singular pronoun is used. The GES staff achieved its (not their) goals. The faculty reduced its (not their) number by two. The team is on a losing streak due to its (not their) injuries. Paul is comparing Gentiles (you) with Jews (“those who fell,” “they,” “these natural branches,” “their own olive tree”). Since the Jews in the comparison are a group, then so are the Gentiles they are being compared to. Nearly every commentary indicates that you in these verses refers to Gentiles as a group. Richard Longenecker writes, “The diatribe form begins with the plural address ‘to you Gentiles’ (humin ethnesin) in 11:13a and continued in a more sustained fashion by the use of the second-person singular ‘you’ (su, se, and sou) and second-person singular verbal suffix ‘you’ (-as) here in 11:17-24” (Romans, p. 892). Hodges says, “Paul’s su is a collective personification of the Gentiles” (Romans, p. 335). Second Objection and Answer. Some Calvinist interpreters see the Reformed doctrine of the perseverance of the saints in these verses (e.g, F. F. Bruce, Romans, Revised Edition, pp. 206-207; John MacArthur, Romans 9-16, pp. 117-18). They think the tree refers to salvation, and those cut off are false professors (by their failure to persevere, they prove they were not saints). They see verse 22 as a warning that if a believer fails to persevere, “God’s patience will be exhausted and His offer of grace withdrawn, that blessing by association will be of no value when unbelievers face the living God in judgment and are eternally cut off from Him” (MacArthur, Romans 9-16, p. 118). There is nothing in the context to suggest that this is a warning to false professors. Paul repeatedly indicated in Romans that he is writing to born-again people (Rom 1:7, 13; 6:1-14, 15-23; 7:1, 4; 8:12; 10:1; 11:25; 12:1-2; 15:13, 14, 15, 30; 16:3-16, 17). Nowhere in the book does Paul question the eternal destiny of his readers. If we assume that Rom 11:22 is a warning that a believer who falls away goes to the lake of fire, then we understand Paul to be teaching justification by faith plus works. That would be a direct denial of justification by faith alone. Why would Paul contradict in Rom 11:22 what he clearly taught in Rom 3:21-4:25? Answer: he would not. If your theology does not fit the text, then change your theology, not the text.
@@soljos1190 I understand where you're coming from, and believe me, I have poured over Scripture over and over to reconcile these opposing views on "works" and I believe the truth lies in a misunderstanding of what faith is and looks like. There are a couple truths in Scripture that Jesus and Paul taught about this that I don't see taught by churches today that also make sense of some harder to understand verses. 1. Faith is inseparable from what you do. It's automatic. It really is fruit on the tree. Genuine faith (not counterfeit) passes God's tests and is shown to be the real deal. 2. Being "in Christ" (which brings no condemnation) is on the condition that one is led by the Spirit and not the flesh. Only those "in Christ" are raised to life (1 Thess 4). That said, there are difficulties I have not yet resolved. I see the foundation for the "have you done enough good works" argument, but I think it's misplaced. I think Scripture is clear enough that It's not about perfection and that faith is something that can grow and develop while we rest in the grace of what Jesus has done. At the same time, "God is not mocked. Everyone will reap what they sow. Those who sow in the Spirit will reap life. Those who sow in the flesh will reap corruption". The Greek word used for corruption is the same word used for hell in other places. I agree that some verses make it look like there is no way to be lost, but the condition is on believing, having "faith". If I am correct that we don't understand today what faith even is (and I think all of Scripture affirms this idea), then perhaps we need to be careful to understand what faith is before we decide we're in it. (2 Cor 13: 5-6) You never addressed Rom 9 and 11, just attacked the idea outright. I believe my understanding of faith reconciles both your view and mine. I will look at your references when I have some time and give my take.
@@soljos1190 I've responded generally in another comment, but it was getting long and I wanted to address this. You claimed that nowhere in Scripture does it say that the born again can be lost. What do you do with the verses about "not blotting out names from the book of life"? And how can the great apostasy even happen if Christians cannot depart? Also, Ezekiel 18. " 21 “But if a wicked person turns away from all the sins they have committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, that person will surely live; they will not die. 22 None of the offenses they have committed will be remembered against them. Because of the righteous things they have done, they will live. 23 Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live? 24 “But if a righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked person does, will they live? None of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered. Because of the unfaithfulness they are guilty of and because of the sins they have committed, they will die."
The Only church history that interests me on this topic is the writings of Jesus Christ, John, Peter and Paul and the other NT writers. Everything we have in Christ is eternal: Eternal life : John 3:16 and the several other references John uses pertaining to Eternal Everlasting Life. Life is Zoe life. It is eternal not just in Duration but quality. Zoe life is divine life that God imparts to the dead John 10:10. The same John said in 1 John 5:11-13 that ye may know you have eternal life. Eternal life is produced by a Imperishable and incorruptible seed: 1 Peter 1:23. “Having been born again (Perfect tense) of a imperishable seed” Man was born physically with a corrupt perishable seed that produced Bio-Psuche life. Same quality life of the animal kingdom. This caliber of life is governed by man’s instincts, and five senses. This is life in the first Adam hence the need to be born again Spiritually . John says when we pass from death to life (John 5:24) also perfect tense , man passes out of union in Adam to Union in Christ. This process doesn’t reverse itself because it is impossible to pass out of Adam in to Christ and back in to Adam . God only sees man in one of 2 unions. In Adam dead, In Christ with Eternal Zoe life John 1:4 The believer has Eternal Redemption: Hebrews 9:12 In an Eternal Covenant With God: Hebrews 13:20 None of these hair-brain scenarios opponents of Eternal security can Remove a believer from just these couple truths
Who cares about "the early church"...i don't. They were not the authority, Jesus Christ is and HE sent Paul who preached that a believer is eternally secure, which came from what Christ told Him to tell us. These so called scholars should be back in the Word because they are deceived and deceiving everyone who listens to them. Just because the Bible doesn't say "once you are saved, you are always saved" doesn't mean it's not true. The Bible doesn't try defend it because it's what God's grace is all about. SO insanely foolish to think that we can maintain our salvation when all of this nonsense started with one "tiny" sin, eating a fruit. Bunch of hypocrites. I sincerely believe that a truly saved person, wouldn't disagree with once saved always saved because they've put their trust in Christ and experienced God's grace first hand and are 100% assured that they are saved. As I get older, these people make me more and more aware of how few people actually understand the simplicity in Christ or even the Gospel. Basically, if you say you cannot be secure in Christ, then you shouldn't really trust Him because you never know, that my friends is a doctrine that will send you to the pit, not one that saves.

@Ydarg09 Curios why you purposely ignore the commands of repentance in Matthew Mark Luke and especially Acts which explain how to be born again. Do you really think John didn't preach repentance? Mark 6:12 So they [the disciples] went out and preached that men should repent [that is, think differently, recognize sin, turn away from it, and live changed lives]. On the day of pentecost which is the start of the church John was there when the first time in church people asked how to be saved. Acts 2:37-41 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart [with remorse and anxiety], and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles,(Including John) “Brothers, what are we to do?” 38And Peter said to them, “Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinfull ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39For the promise [of the Holy Spirit] is for you and your children and for all who are far away [including the Gentiles], as many as the Lord our God calls to Himself.” 40And Peter solemnly testified and continued to admonish and urge them with many more words, saying, “Be saved from this crooked and unjust generation!” 41So then, those who accepted his message were baptized; and on that day about 3,000 souls were added [to the body of believers]. Here's Paul Acts 20:21 solemnly [and wholeheartedly] testifying to both Jews and Greeks, urging them to turn in repentance to God and [to have] faith in our Lord Jesus Christ [for salvation]. Acts 26:18-20 to open their [spiritual] eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness and release from their sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified (set apart, made holy) by faith in Me.’ 19“So, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20but I openly proclaimed first to those at Damascus, then at Jerusalem and throughout the region of Judea, and even to the Gentiles, that they should repent [change their inner self--their old way of thinking] and turn to God, doing deeds and living lives which are consistent with repentance. Read Acts 26:20 again. Repent of your sins Believe in Jesus Be water baptized Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Faith alone In Christ alone regenerates forever , and is the sole means of forever justification before God : ..."therefore it(eternal Justification before God) is by faith that it might be according to Grace that the Promise would be certain".... But works cannot eternally Justify before God (Ephesians 2:8-9 ; Romans 3:20-5:11,11:6,29 ; Titus 3:5 ; Philippians 3:9; book of Galatians . Can't Square that Circle . Makes no sense . It is NEVER found in a single passage stating : "Whosoever repents (turns from all sins till death) earns/deserves/is paid with/merits/is (at physical death) born-again and rewarded with entrance into His Kingdom". Not once is turning from all sins till death a NECESSARY condition of entering His forever Kingdom. NO MURDERER HAS ETERNAL LIFE ABIDING IN HIM (1 JOHN 3:15)
No Murderer Has Eternal Life Abiding in Him (1 John 3:15)
March 19, 2019 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - 1 John 3:15, Abiding, Assurance, Fellowship, Perseverance, Transformation
A reader who likes our magazine wrote, asking us to take him off our subscription list:
It is with sadness I ask you to remove me from your mailing list.
“Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.” Here is how Zane Hodges explains that in his commentary:
Hatred of one’s brother is not only an experience of death; it is also an experience of murder.
And we read in 1 John 4:16 that “God is love.” Note in 1 John 4:12, “If we love one another, God abides in us…”
Hodges comments:
But the Christian who acts so uncompassionately is not having a vital experience of God’s love.
Amen
the man on the middle cross said that I can come. I believe Him.
Sorry, but no, you cannot come. No one can come to Jesus. It is Jesus that comes to the few who God has chosen to save. And these few have nothing to do with anything known as the church.
The command to come (believe) is the same as the command to keep the commandments, the laws and the sabbath. The command is there to show no one can do it. This is precisely why Jesus had to come. If anyone could save themselves as the 100% apostate church has deceived everyone to believe, then Jesus would have not had to come. We could have all just saved ourselves by coming/believing.

● John 17 : 9
● Romans 9 : 14 - 24
yes.. "no one can snatch us out of the Father's Almighty hands"
● Romans 10 : 28 - 30
These people confuse salvation and fellowship. Their confusion causes them to deny Jesus' work at the cross, deny the purpose of the Holy Spirit in the Church, and demands God have fellowship with sin based on a curve grading system. 0-3
Looking well, Bob 👍
He may be looking well, but inside he is a dead man.
It is saying that Jesus' sacrifice no longer applies
"When you are born again you become Gods son." That's right!
Romans 8:23 "Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body."
2 Peter 1:10-11 "Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble; for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ."
"it is talking about judgement against a rebellious son.
1 Corinthians 5:5 is about church discipline.

I also wouldn't conceide point one.

@@theTavis01
Faith is not works . You're clearly equivocating .
Faith is not repentance (turning from all sins till death) .
Faith is being convinced of any given proposition .
Eternal Justification before God is only by the singular means of acquiring the endless Righteousness that He imputes to all who believe in Him for eternal life :
..."therefore it (eternal Justification before God) is by faith that it might be ACCORDING TO GRACE that the Promise would be Certain" (Romans 4:16) .
That is patently contradictory to every conceivable Evangelistic/Everlasting Life/Justification before God passage in the Bible :
John 1:12-13,3:1-18,4:10-14,5:24,6:28-47,10,11:23-27,20:31 ; Acts 16:31 ; 1 John 5:1,10-13 ; Galatians 2:16,3:26 ; 1 Timothy 1:16 ; Ephesians 2:8-9 ; Romans 3:20-5:11,11:6,29 ; Titus 3:5 ; Philippians 3:9 ; book of Galatians .
Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown." And Paul says "stand firm in the faith" and "If we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us;"
"a lifelong perseverance in an Unknowable level (%) of hopefully good enough behavioral performance " Ugh.

Believing that I have Eternal life through and because of Jesus and Jesus alone
No Calvinist would say that you can be born again and not be elect. Youi are born again because you are elect.
2 Timothy 2:12]
IF we endure,
we will also reign with him.
IF we disown him,
he will also disown us;
IF we deny Him he will deny us.
IF you walk away from the Savior rejecting Him you are damned.
He will renounce you.
Matthew 10:33
But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
2 Timothy 2:13
IF we are faithless,
he remains faithful,
for he cannot disown himself.
Don't fool yourself with your unbelief by thinking God's still faithful to me
He is faithful He cannot deny Himself, that's who He is faithful to.
IF you hold to Jesus saying you are trustworthy you are everything to me, acknowledge you're just a hopeless sinner He cannot deny you. Your security is as firm as His allegiance is to His name.
You believe in yourself , since you don't believe in Him FOR His doubtless Guarantee of irrevocable Everlasting Life (John 3:16 & Ephesians 2:8-9) .That's the Object and Content of your works righteousness soteriology , as follows :
1.Repentance (turning from all sins till death) which eventuates in your perseverance in an Unknowable level (%) of hopefully good enough behavioral performance (works) .
2. Physical Water Baptism .
3. Continuous "faith" till death (even while sinning (?) ... how's that work exactly ?) in self selected attributes//DBR .
That's undeniable .
Yet , Scripture contains no passage stating :
"Whosoever repents (turns from all sins till death and perseveres till death in an Unknowable level of hopefully good enough behavioral performance (works) /Is Physically Water Baptized/Continuously believes (in self selected attributes/DBR) ...even while sinning (?) ...shall be paid with/earn/merit/be rewarded with entrance into His Kingdom" .
John Calvin was clear that every regenerated christian is an elect and will be kept safe by God, he clearly taught osas!

A distinction to be made is between Christianity-of-the-trenches and Christianity-of-the-scribes. Would Paul have written his epistles if he was not incarcerated?
The simple fact is, no one who does not understand that once Jesus saves one of his elect, they are always saved is a Christian. The entire church is filled with fake christians.

The book of John says otherwise .
Gotta be born again by faith in Him FOR eternal life . Faith is a capacity to understand and believe in Him for His doubtless Guarantee (John 3:16) . Faith isn't extrinsically forced upon anyone .
"Chosen" and elect are never aligned with "for eternal salvation" nor are those who end up in the lake of fire "chosen/elected" for eternal condemnation by God Himself . Chosen/elect for service , not for one's Everlasting destination .
God doesn't do the believing for us , because we're not puppets .
Jesus doesn't force His love and Everlasting Life on one who couldn't have done otherwise than determined by some Secret Decree . That reduces to complete absurdity .
Monovolitionism is impossible to sustain , Exegetically and logically .
Otherwise , this alleged "God" is in fact ultimately the cause of all sin , suffering , sickness , death (totality of Evil) , if all is "meticulously determined" by a Singular Will operating in the Universe .
Here is all you have to do to prove if "Once Saved Always Saved" is the Gospel Truth.

Is "Once Saved Always Saved" (Eternal Security) True? Does the Bible Jesus teach "Once Saved Always Saved" (Eternal Security) Bob Wilkin of the Grace Evangelical Society demonstrates from the Bible why "Once Saved Always Saved" (Eternal Security) is true, since we have Jesus' word on it and Jesus never lies.
"Once saved", then what? What the heck is 'saved'? Saved from what? from sin? What the heck is 'sin'? What is sin? What sin? any sin? all sin? sin of what? sin to whom? Sinned, then forgiven. Who forgives? How? Forgiven, and then what? Forgiven and sin no more! Becoming sinless? incapable to sin?
Instead of asking a bunch of ignorant questions, why dont you read the Bible and find out what the answers are yourself?
These false teachers who doubt their assurance or teach others to doubt their assurance of salvation and eternal life, have effectively rejected the record that God gives us. The record that if we believe in Christ the Son of God, we know that we have eternal life. This means that they who think that you could lose salvation don't actually believe they or anyone else has eternal life when they believe in Christ. Narrow is the way.

James 1:22
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves.
And if the Jews turn from their unbelief, God will graft them back into the tree again."
I know you're confident that you understand, but if if you're wrong on this, then you are teaching a lie and it's a lie that is comforting and leads to complacency and unfortunately, hell.

Being Cut Off God’s Olive Tree (Romans 11:19-24)
March 13, 2020 by Bob Wilkin in Blog - Being Cut Off From The Olive Tree, Eternal Security, OSAS, Romans 11:19-24
You will say then, “Branches were broken off that I might be grafted in.” Well said.

A few weeks ago, I received this email question from one whom I’ll call NOSAS:
Greetings in Christ Jesus,
To start, I am thankful for your ministry; it is desperately needed.
Nice.
But then NOSAS says, “If we depart from Him in Whom our Life is, and Whom is our Life, then there is no life in us.”
The major problem with this statement is that it contradicts the Lord’s promise in John 3:16; 4:10-14; 5:24; 6:35, 37, 39-40, 47; 11:25-27; and Rev 22:17. The Lord promised that once we believe in Him we will never perish, will never thirst, will never hunger, will never die spiritually, and will never come into judgment concerning our eternal destiny. That is clear and definitive.
Three Reasons Why We Know the Issue Is Not Being Cut Off from Eternal Life
There are three answers regarding Rom 11:19-24.
(Some would say it ended earlier, maybe in AD 33.)
Individual Jews have been born again during the church age.
Here is a quote from the just-mentioned blog:
In his commentary on Romans, Zane Hodges says concerning Rom 11:20, “Very simply put, should the Gentile world cease to be a responsive instrument for the gospel, God could return His focus to Israel. This would mean the cessation of the present period of Gentile privilege and a return to the original privilege of Israel as the chief vehicle for the divine message” (p. 336).
Objections Answered
First Objection and Answer. The second person pronoun, you, is used seven times in Rom 11:19-24. All are singulars. That might lead one to conclude that Paul is talking about individual Gentiles being cut off. Maybe that is what confused NOSAS. However, we know that Paul is using you as a collective pronoun.
Dictionary.com says,
A collective noun refers to a type of noun that encompasses “a whole group as a single entity” as well as the members of that group.

I understand where you're coming from, and believe me, I have poured over Scripture over and over to reconcile these opposing views on "works" and I believe the truth lies in a misunderstanding of what faith is and looks like.
(2 Cor 13: 5-6)
You never addressed Rom 9 and 11, just attacked the idea outright.
"
21 “But if a wicked person turns away from all the sins they have committed and keeps all my decrees and does what is just and right, that person will surely live; they will not die.
Everything we have in Christ is eternal:
Eternal life : John 3:16 and the several other references John uses pertaining to Eternal Everlasting Life.
“Having been born again (Perfect tense) of a imperishable seed”
Man was born physically with a corrupt perishable seed that produced Bio-Psuche life.
In Adam dead, In Christ with Eternal Zoe life John 1:4
The believer has Eternal Redemption: Hebrews 9:12
In an Eternal Covenant With God: Hebrews 13:20
None of these hair-brain scenarios opponents of Eternal security can Remove a believer from just these couple truths
You have spoken correctly, praise be to God.
Jesus nor Paul ever said OSAS.
In fact both said the opposite

1. Repentance is nowhere found - Exegetically - in the Book of John . You found nothing in the book of John that Objectively supports your Repentance as a NECESSARY condition of being born again with irreversible Everlasting Life, in its contents . Yet , that's what you MUST produce to prove works righteousness soteriology . Not a convincing Methodology .
So , you cannot produce the slightest shred of evidence in support of your affirmation .
A reasonable person should conclude that this insurmountable problem cannot accord with the Laws of Logic , nor advance one's supposition .
What you're attempting to do is transparently clear to anyone dispassionately in pursuit of Objective truth , rather than Eisegetically smuggling in works righteousness soteriology at the expense of the data . Arguing in a Circle (Begging the Question Fallacy) never comes off as persuasive .
This is a textbook example .
2. John 20:31 explicitly and unambiguously states the purpose of the book .
It exactly contradicts your affirmation .
As do every passage in its contents devolving upon Evangelism/Everlasting Life .
As does every conceivable Evangelistic/Everlasting Life/Justification before God passage in the Bible .
Not once do your 3 NECESSARY CONDITIONS occur , in a single passage .
The absence of evidence - in support of any affirmative proposition - is Objective proof of its incoherence . That which is unsustainable is Necessarily untrue .
@Ydarg09
Curios why you purposely ignore the commands of repentance in Matthew Mark Luke and especially Acts which explain how to be born again.
Do you really think John didn't preach repentance?
Mark 6:12
So they [the disciples] went out and preached that men should repent [that is, think differently, recognize sin, turn away from it, and live changed lives].
On the day of pentecost which is the start of the church John was there when the first time in church people asked how to be saved.
Acts 2:37-41
Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart [with remorse and anxiety], and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles,(Including John) “Brothers, what are we to do?” 38And Peter said to them, “Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinfull ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Here's Paul
Acts 20:21
solemnly [and wholeheartedly] testifying to both Jews and Greeks, urging them to turn in repentance to God and [to have] faith in our Lord Jesus Christ [for salvation].
Acts 26:18-20
to open their [spiritual] eyes so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness and release from their sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified (set apart, made holy) by faith in Me.’
19“So, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, 20but I openly proclaimed first to those at Damascus, then at Jerusalem and throughout the region of Judea, and even to the Gentiles, that they should repent [change their inner self--their old way of thinking] and turn to God, doing deeds and living lives which are consistent with repentance.
Read Acts 26:20 again.
Repent of your sins
Believe in Jesus
Be water baptized
Receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 2:37 indicates faith in the Messiah/Christ which clearly regenerates (John 20:31 , 1 John 5:1) . Contradicts all works righteousness attempts .
John preached repentance .
So did the Disciples .
So did Jesus .
Repentance is not faith .
Faith alone In Christ alone regenerates forever , and is the sole means of forever justification before God :
..."therefore it(eternal Justification before God) is by faith that it might be according to Grace that the Promise would be certain".... You would need your 3 NECESSARY CONDITIONS in every conceivable Evangelistic/Everlasting Life/Justification before God passage in the Bible to sustain your affirmation . You haven't done that .
I preach repentance .
But Never in order to be born again with irrevocable Everlasting Life .
It is works (behavioral performance) in every NT usage . But works cannot eternally Justify before God (Ephesians 2:8-9 ; Romans 3:20-5:11,11:6,29 ; Titus 3:5 ; Philippians 3:9; book of Galatians .
Can't Square that Circle . Makes no sense .
It is NEVER found in a single passage stating :
"Whosoever repents (turns from all sins till death) earns/deserves/is paid with/merits/is (at physical death) born-again and rewarded with entrance into His Kingdom".
Not once is turning from all sins till death a NECESSARY condition of entering His forever Kingdom.
Nor indeed is perseverance till death in a Never Knowable nor Quantifiable level of hopefully good enough behavioral performance (works) .
You've never shown us a single passage that affirms your NECESSARY CO-CONDITIONS.

Fantastic insights .
Works righteousness never makes sense , kinda like thinking that a double amputee has a real "shot" at winning the Olympic 100 meter dash !
So the disciples of the disciples got it wrong? You need to more study my friend. Praise God for the ex Manichean who hated the Greek language in the 5th century who clarified what the Apostles poorly tried to communicate.m?
Bring me a better argument.
Of course the Ante Nicene fathers have insight on proper interpretation!
