    It is exactly the test video I'm looking for! Very clear approach and good angle. Thank you. It looks like the AF is faster in the center than the concern.

  • @PaulMarbrook
    @PaulMarbrook 2 года назад +2

    The lens is the limitation here! We all know that the more corrected the lens design is and the more contrasty it is then Techart can do very well. Point it a a back lit subject and its going to start struggling unless the lens is super corrected and coated - thats why our modern AF mirrorless lenses are designed the way they are - super high contrast and sharp right across the entire frame wide open to that AF is optimum.

      When you use tracking spot, whenever you half press on a subject to track it, the icon on the left changes to wide indicating the camera is following subject everywhere in the frame. Check my Sony A7IV af guide video - I break down all the options

    4:16 this is and adapted lens and Sony made all of its cameras crippled to SLOW for the AF in burst shooting (it is written in the specs). You were on MED which means you had AF only on the first shot and after that the AF is not working (it just stops the AF). It is like that from A7III with all adapted lenses (canon, sony A mount, ... all of them). You can use LO burst setting which makes 3fps and it will work as good as it can. The only cameras that can work faster in burst are the A9, A9II and A1 - they can work with adapted lenses up to 10fps.

  • @alvarob17

    Hey Magic, it's been a while since this video so not sure if you still have this adapter. I just received mine yesterday. I have it on a Sony A7IV and was trying it with a Carl Zeiss 50mm F1.8 Pancolar lens. For reference I'm shooting using the rule of thirds grid lines. Focusing in the center rectangle is relatively quick and the photos come out pretty sharp. If I focus outside the center rectangle, it stills focuses (I get green confirmation) but the focus area doesn't come out as sharp. If I go more away from the center gets worse. I tried the same exercise but focusing manually and the image is much sharper when I move away from center. I was trying to make sure that it wasn't the lens glass that was worse towards corners. Do you remember if you had similar results with your adapter? Thanks!

    • @hkhhh
      @hkhhh 2 месяца назад

      I've just gotten the adaptor as well, I can confirm that this product only likes focusing "within" the rule of thirds centre box, basically if the focus point is off centre, it will fail quite abit.
      I use AF-S with center point > AF-Lock > Recompose, it works quite well within the rule of thirds grid lines.
      My usual go to for recomposing is AF-C > AF-Tracking > Recompose for Sony Lenses (but this does not work with this adaptor)

    • @alvarob17
      @alvarob17 Месяц назад

      @@hkhhh thanks for the feedback... I'm using the adapter sometimes. Lately I've been doing more the manual thing with focus peaking. Too bad as it's a good concept. Just wish it would focus better away from center.

    I am your big fan and already bought this adapter after watching your video. May I ask you? Do you set lens focus at infinity position all the time? Even the subject is close than 3 meters, do you still set the lens to infinity position? Thanks.

    • @MagicWeddingPhotographer
      @MagicWeddingPhotographer  2 года назад +1

      Hey, thanks! I do set it from infinity, but at the end it all depends on the lens and focusing. I remember couple times just moving the focus on the lens when subject was super close. What's your experience?

    • @thanyawong
      @thanyawong 2 года назад +2

      @@MagicWeddingPhotographer I do the same. When the subject is very close, I move the focus on the lens. It helps the focus faster. And I found that this Techart adapter works like a extension tube of macro adapter. If I move the focus on the lens till the end of closest distance, I can take photo very very close to the subject with auto focus.

    There is the "Techart PRO Leica M - Sony E Autofocus Adapter ver II (LM-EA9)" at $399.00...
    But I 'm not sure why there are other rings on the page of this adapter... Between $50 and $120.
    is this something we have to add, depending on the model of the lens we have… I guess ?
    And if owning different Leica M lenses, we have to get different "small" adapters for each… Is it possible then to replace them every time by ourselves ?

      @MagicWeddingPhotographer  2 года назад

      Hey Caciur! I have been using this computer as my main editing machine for almost a year. Recently switched to m1 max 14 fully speced mostly because of video work. For just photos m1 air holds up no problem. It’s not that fast exporting images or generating previews - but working in Lr itself is not a problem. But still - if you’re getting computer for years to come, I’d get 32gb ram.

    hi magic, thanks for this interesting review! I just wonder if the walking shots would have worked better with back button focus - have you tried that before?
    and another question: what whitebalance do you have on most these photos after edited? I tend to go from 6500 to 9000 during this time, sometimes I wonder if its correct.

    • @MagicWeddingPhotographer

      Yeah I don’t think back button would change much. Shooting more like AF-S was the way here, as the continuous af just didn’t perform that well.
      Regarding the white balance I like keeping images on the warm end - will double check WB value when I’m at computer and will get back to you!

  • @PaulMarbrook
    @PaulMarbrook 2 года назад +2

    Also - The LEICA SUMMILUX-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH is a remarkable lens, being the world's only aspherical 50/1.4 with floating elements.
    Floating element (non-unit-focus, internal focus) lenses: Some lenses have complex movements of internal elements relative to each other as the focus is adjusted -- they don't just shift the optical block as a whole closer to/farther from the sensor, which is what the Techart does. Any significant change from the set manual focus position is likely to degrade IQ somewhat. However, small changes will generally be fine. That's ok, it just means the lens should be set to approximately the right distance manually and the Techart simply tweak the focus.

  • @PaulMarbrook
    @PaulMarbrook 2 года назад

    People seem to forget that the main limitation with these adaptors is the lens used!
    Backlight, off centre focus, uncorrected lens design, low contrast etc etc are going to weaken the ability of the camera to AF this thing.
    The design has not magically made the focussing ability any more effective! It maybe slightly quicker to move the lens and now have more stability with 4 motors but the limitations of using adapted glass are still there!
