@@shadowsa2b At 0:22 Philippa points just above the sensor (little extrusion on the middle of top side, near the front), the spike is just below it and sticks about 30cm out of the front of the robot after firing. I don't think it ever did any damage and it only worked well in maybe 2-3 fights. The spike was very fast but it had no momentum so it would just bounce off anything harder than wood.
"So while the judges make their decision" ...cuts to shot of the judges deciding what there having for dinner, because theres clearly no deciding to do here.
101 was just a big flat robot, a perfect target for Razer. What you need is a robot which is hard for the jaws of Razer to grip onto... which is basically no shape in existence.
I love how in a lot of videos, razor will just dominate other robots, then when its finished playing it hands the destroyed robot over to the house bots as if to say "here you go mate" haha they shoudve made razor a house robot.
Damn. Razer went right through 101 like a hot knife through butter. That's why Razer is my favorite robot. He can, literally, destroy any machine he goes against. Long live the mighty, the legendary, Razer!
@StormHornet56 Semi-finalist the previous series, didn't need any extensive work done on it post-series because it stood up to Hypno-Disc is my guess. As for those asking about weapons, 101 has an automated pneumatic spike that comes out whenerobot is in range Now you know!
+navnig They were going to as a grudge match and came VERY close in the Season 5 Championship finals. However, the grudge match was called off due to the potential damage both robots could have caused to each other (Hypnodisc could have easily shredded the fragile crusher mechanics of Razer in a head-on hit, while Razer would have easily taken out the expensive weapon motor controller of Hypnodisc if it got around to the back), and Hypnodisc lost to Bigger Brother in the Season 5 Championship round semifinal.
Ahh, Philippa in the good old days - I remember her signing my Tomorrow's World Live show guide as a teenager - then bumped into her at Bristol Zoo in my 20s :D
Actually, Tornado DID get an upgrade in Series 6 specifically designed to stop Razor from attacking it. The next time they met, however, Razer got its own special weapon: a hook which it could use to lift up Tornado's bulky frame instead of cutting it. It worked, and Razer won Extreme II.
I can think of a design that would work... Bulldozer type. Just stick a sufficiently tall high carbon spring steel two-layer reinforced frame on the front for bashing/blocking. It would not do well against hypnodisc, due to the fact that hypnodisc would just thrash it aside until the circuits inside cracked, but it would stop Razer. The motor on that pincer does have limits.
robot wars is on now, it's on Dave (128 if you have virgin box) at 6pm starting from today :D i watched the one today, Big Wheely Cheese, Sir Killalot, Matilda, Sump-thing and some other robot was there, it was amazing.
this is a perfect example of the fact that EVERY robot is weak against something. 101 very nearly beat hypno in the third wars which was obviously held just prior to this, owing to the fact its very resilient against spinners, but again because of its shape its terribly vulnerable to crushers and axes, in this case razer. its pretty interesting going through all the successful robots over the years and picking out what robots it would strugle against.
They never did, I think it was planned for the series 5 final - if you look at the draw, it was Hypno Disc vs Bigger Brother who quite frankly didn't stand a chance with the armour it had (if it weren't for some skilful driving at the end, it would have gone) and Razer never loses to Flippers like Firestorm. Basically, that draw was going to pit Razer and Hypno Disc up against each other for the final but obviously it never worked out...
101 did have a (small and fairly useless) pneumatic spike in the front, with a sensor so it would work automatically. it never did a huge amount though, 101 was more of a simple and cheap push them about type bot.
Rennie Ash In Robot Wars they said for TV that it cost £1.01 and was made entirely from scrap and electronics from the teams first robot. In reality, the team said it cost more like £5 to build 101... which is still amazing!
Hypnodisc was my favourite robot, it's a great shame it never had a fight against Razer because it could have been awesome. Razer was still a fantastic robot.
Thing about Razer was that none of it's matches were interesting as such. It was either: 1) Razer owned the opposition without even trying (honestly pretty much all the matches were run, puncture robot's insides, maybe lift them into the air, win) or 2) Razer just got stuck somewhere and died out (Pussycat anyone?). There was practically no competition because it was so strong but not extremely reliable.
@FocusedSub razer, hypno disc, chaos 2 and panic attack/tornado/firestorm vs Dead Metal, SGT Bash, Shunt and Sir Kil-a-Lot..........Razor to crumple Kill-a-Lot, Hypno disc on Dead Metal, Chaos to flip Sgt Bash and panic attack to get underneath shunt
Hypnodisc would win, though both robots will sustain massive damage. Razer can potentially outmaneuver Hypnodisc, but in a head-on collision Hypnodisc's weapon would be in just the right position to hit the vulnerable hydraulics that drive Razer's crushing claw. Of course, Razer would probably get in a few nasty attacks of its own.
You're mixing Wheely Big Cheese with Firestorm there. Firestorm flipped Psycho, only robot to have done that. Besides, Cheese retired from Robot Wars before Psycho was even introduced as a House Robot.
@FocusedSub razer, hypno disc, chaos 2 and panic attack/Behemoth vs Dead Metal, SGT Bash, Shunt and Sir Kil-a-Lot..........Razor to crumple Kill-a-Lot, Hypno disc on Dead Metal, Chaos to flip Sgt Bash and panic attack/Behemoth to get underneath shunt
Funny story; they were s'posed to fight in a fan-voted battle, but both teams agreed the damage would be CATASTROPHIC, so they didn't want it to happen. It's like a Goku VS Superman thing. Everything would cease to exist if these two went all out against each other.
That's a joke line-up for a Semi-Final. Razer was an exceptional robot, but Diotoir had fur for armour, Behemoth was garbage and 101 was basically a shit box with tracks and a spike. Must have been a close judges decision.
@CCMAR yah thats hilarious, at 2:07 he goes 'they say razer is part bird, part reptile'. who says that? no one said that! the commentator just made it up.
I read about this battle in the Robot Wars Magazine one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of in the show's history. Mike Franklin approached Team Razer to say that if they damaged his motors, he wouldn't be able to take part in Series 4, hence why he marked out with a black marker (as Ian Lewis hinted at at the end of the clip) the areas where it was ideal to crush in order to avoid those motors. Well firstly, if you're going into battle without spare components for more competitions soon to come, it's not your opponents' problem. At the end of the day, it's a combat zone where you need to be prepared to deal with the worst. And secondly, how was Team Razer supposed to only pierce those precise spotted points of 101 when they were high up in their control booth looking down on a battle with so much movement going on? You couldn't have expected them to be _that_ accurate! Not that it mattered anyway as 101's innards were packed with wood for additional protection that seemed to pay off, but again - that's not something to pin on your opponent when you should be prepared to deal with the worst-case scenario yourself. I wouldn't have even put 101 into either of the international specials when it only really got as far as it did in the third UK Championship on sheer dumb luck; because of something else that happened to its opponents that wasn't any of 101's doing. The only time it properly bested a robot in battle prior to facing Razer was the previous round to when it outperformed Weld-Dor, but even that had a drawback in that 101 only got to that round because of Panic Attack's botched driving that landed it in the pit despite clearly owning 101 in battle.
Razer didn't do very well here in the US. It lost to Tazbot in Battlebots, although it made it into the heavyweight grand rumble via the consolation rumble along with Little Sister (which I think it went on to win the rumble, though I'm not sure...). Razer is most effective when it can catch its opponent. Faster robots like Biohazard and Vlad the Impaler, and highly destructive machines like Son of Wyachi and Mauler 51-50 would easily beat Razer. Actually, that's why Team Razer built Warhead.
everybody knows that razer was the coolest robot ever
ikr
Moikle ,
I like Nightmare the best
Stinger The Killer Bee the 2nd most
And Razer the 3rd
i feel sad for 101
He had no chance and does it even have a weapon
Captain Smartass where?

When i saw the enemy, the design is perfect as razer's prey
Razer, Chaos 2 & HypnoDisc
+JB1995 agreed! three best robots. Diotor though is always good for a laugh.
HypnoDisc rules
I used to love this show razer was my favorite but watching hypno disk destroy things was awsome too.
"So while the judges make their decision" ...cuts to shot of the judges deciding what there having for dinner, because theres clearly no deciding to do here.

Well I believe Razer had a bit of trouble with Agrobot, till Razer got around it and went to work on the exposed bits.
How about a gigantic 3 sided pyramid? And each side lifts up. Perfect anti-grapple
which is sorta what Agrobot was.
+Richard “Firebug” Merrick a sphere?
+skycomet2 a dome doesn't work just ask Milly Ann bug

As amazing as Bigger Brother's run to the final was, that's the greatest what-if in Robot Wars history.
@LasergunExtreme its an amazing show they definitely should have made more.
i remember when i was a kid i used to wach this razor was a favorite :D
Ahh, Philippa in the good old days - I remember her signing my Tomorrow's World Live show guide as a teenager - then bumped into her at Bristol Zoo in my 20s :D
Oo. Did you chat?
Razer is OP

@FocusedSub i think if they did that razer would grab the disc allmost straiht away before if got going and it would be over for hypno.
Notice he does not mention the thickness of the sheet steel XD

Tornado beat them twice too, albeit at the cost of their decency and dignity.
Does that other bot even have a weapon?
I don't think so. There were quite a few robots who didn't have a weapon, just ramming people but they were usually really quick and last for ages.
101 has a hidden spike I think...
101 did have a (small and fairly useless) pneumatic spike in the front, with a sensor so it would work automatically. it never did a huge amount though, 101 was more of a simple and cheap push them about type bot.
pkscarr That cost $101 apparently
Rennie Ash

corner control, basically. if you notice they don't leave the yellow/black corners. (:
Which won't do much as the wheels will nullify the thrust provided by the spike!
"Oh theres superbunny!. . .
UGH! theres razer . . ."
Dont hurt me razor :D
Hypnodisc was my favourite robot, it's a great shame it never had a fight against Razer because it could have been awesome. Razer was still a fantastic robot.

I'm sure that people have been more sarcastic than Philippa Forrester was in that intro, I just can't think of any...
they have a pneumatic spike that comes out of the front.
have they ever faced up i always wanted to them go at it!
@achappy713 lol the house robots are the ones in the corners
@LasergunExtreme have they stopped making robot wars?
Why the are there also other robots in the arena?
I dont get it.
Does 101 have a weapon?
@theviperishere a spike that comes out of the front
@StormHornet56 Hey, I ain't a massive 101 fan, but I'm just calling what I see.
101 has a pneumatic spike on the front of their robot but it isn't very effective
Dead Metal seems to be Razer's teammate: Razer always gives his victims to Dead for some reason, nor has Razer ever tried to kill him.
how did 101 make it do the semifinals?... wow
The fact that 101 got to the semis in a world championship was awesome, I mean, wasnt it named 101 cuz it cost £1.01 to make?
@metaleater9 101 had a spike the shot out the front but i dont know if he had it then though

does anyone remember the name of the cheesy flipper robot??
M2 (a newcomer to robotwars) KICKED ASS WITH RAZER!! :D all way to the pit with razer :) M2 threw 2 robots out in first heat.. INCREDABLE!
@Mrjarrett1 why do yu think it was called 101, it cost £101, wt effective weaponry can you buy for £101
I never liked it when the teams brought their kids along. It's heartbreaking to see them get upset when razer demolishes their machine.
it has a spike that shouts out the front
@FocusedSub razer, hypno disc, chaos 2 and panic attack/Behemoth vs Dead Metal, SGT Bash, Shunt and Sir Kil-a-Lot..........Razor to crumple Kill-a-Lot, Hypno disc on Dead Metal, Chaos to flip Sgt Bash and panic attack/Behemoth to get underneath shunt
Me and my Dad always wanted to see that, it almost happened once too...
is that lister from red dwarf?!? :-)
now THAT would be one hell of a fight
RAZER WAS THE BEST - pure genious
@ViccieB1993 iunno lol the driver of Razer seems to be enjoying himself =P
Why did robot wars stop i miss it so bad :(
I don't know whether they'd be in the same class, but Blendo would totally own Razor.
RAZER OWNS!
Funny story; they were s'posed to fight in a fan-voted battle, but both teams agreed the damage would be CATASTROPHIC, so they didn't want it to happen.
It's like a Goku VS Superman thing. Everything would cease to exist if these two went all out against each other.
"Please, don't hurt me, Razer!"...superfunny superbunny! (but it hurt)
Well, Growler managed to smash Little Pinkbot to pieces without using its jaws, but I think it was the weight that did it.
does that thing even have a weapon?
@MetroidMan95 sludgebunny?
Bring back uk robot wars RAZOR rools
is that Richard Hammond?
the mullet
surely chaos 3 was the most powerfull flipper (fliped half the half robots out the arena) the year it won
was there a razer vs hypno disc? i cant find it :S
Those 2 never faced each other.
how about razer vs last rite / vs sewer snake....who will be the winner?
Maybe Last Rites
aa'joe alexandria Search up electric boogaloo vs last rites. Hell of a fight
What is 101's main wepon? or any wepon at all?
Is it just me, but 101 didn't even have a weapon?
Yes, pneumatic spear
We should have a International Survey that Robot Wars should be back on LIVE. :/
what is 101 supposed to do it just moves?
stoped in 2002 i think which was a shame i was going to participate :(
As I know at some time there was a talk between autors of them - no battle
I realy love this game !!!
its not on anymore
please minotaur vs razer??????????
actually razer's weakness is that if he cant get underneath your robot, he cannot use the claw making it useless.
does 101 have a wepon?\
I don't see the resemblence of Razor being part reptile or part bird :S
That's a joke line-up for a Semi-Final. Razer was an exceptional robot, but Diotoir had fur for armour, Behemoth was garbage and 101 was basically a shit box with tracks and a spike.

I love razer he is the best
I think they're different weightclasses.
wat was the name of the robot dat looks like a bunny
what the hell is 101 supposed to do? How does it cause damage? And how the hell did it get to the semis?
What's 101's weapons?
xD
l' unico, vero difetto di razor è la manovrabilità... per il resto è resistentissimo, veloce quanto basta, potente, originale... fantastico! xD

GO RAZER!!
lol, razer just went "omnomnomnomnom" on 101
they should attack plasma jets to melt and dull Razer's blade
