Exactly same thing happened to me. I was 16 didn't have a clue what I want to do.....Reading the newspaper one day at home I saw a large advert for the RN. That was it, the seed was sown. Joined as a junior in 1973. Served 15 years. Submarines. would do it again in a heartbeat. The only downside is that being in the services is pretty selfish, and puts a lot of pressure on relationships. Ended up divorced and left the RN in the same year. Still i would do it all again.
the royal navy ads are the best if you can build a bike you can build a b2 spirit bomber and they have the ones with the commandos in like rainforests and all that
Hoofing video. I am always envious of guys joining up now with such focus and drive! I joined as a J/Mne back in 1979 and don't remember having the drive/dedication guys seem to have now - I was just too stubborn and bloody-minded to quit! BZ.
These videos always bring a lump to my throat; I attempted royal marines recruit training twice - once in 752tp in 1998 and again in 826tp in 2002 but ended up getting MD'd after spending 2 years in Hunter Company stuck at week 26 with various injuries. Passed the first three tests, broke myself on the 30 miler around the halfway point and then after getting back to training with a new troop, I broke my ankle 2 miles into the endurance course, carried on for the remaining 4 miles, got 10/10 on the shoot but was 77 seconds over time and a fail is a fail, end of dit! 20 years later, I'm still haunted by feelings of regret, failure and recurring dreams of being stuck at CTCRM.
Mate good effort. Hold your head up. Many try and don't make it for various reasons but it's one of those things in life brother. I was fortunate to pass out and do 7 years in the Corps. At least you gave it your best man. Hope you're well!

@@winstonk400 just came back from a visit to CTC as a guest of the one and only Phil Gilby. Brought some bittersweet memories back.
The true crime would’ve been to not have tried, which is a regret I have to live with every day.
How long were you with 752..as I was with them from week 6-26.. obviously no long beards in those days
