    OK. I'll be absolutely honest I've served in the Corps longer than I can remember, 24 years now, so only clicked on this for a laugh. To see what crap the nods are talking these days.
    But,
    Pleasantly surprised, actually a good video with sensible points.
    Good luck with training; just remember if you want it badly enough you can do absolutely anything. As we always say; it's not going to make you pregnant!!

      Macktheknife11 Bro thank you for you service! I just turned 13 and I'm inspired to join the Royal Marines. I really suck at strength but I do press ups everyday so yeah man. Any tips for the strength thing?

    • @Macktheknife11
      @Macktheknife11 7 лет назад +18

      Jacob Milford Mate, if you've only turned 13 you've got time on your side. Build gradually to avoid injury, injury is what stops most people.
      Best advice I could give is don't be too keen to walk into the recruiting office, you've got all the time in the world, use it and walk through the door only when you absolutely know that you're ready.
      In the meantime, make general phys part of your daily routine. Concentrate on power endurance.
      Oh, and buy an iron and use it, learn to look after yourself before you join. It'll pay dividends in training, I promise.
      By the time you join I'll be gone so, best of luck to you.

      Jacob Milford No choice in the matter mate my time is done and then some. Anyway, it's a job for young men, not old farts like me.
      As to whether you should join or not, if I could answer that I'd be a very rich man.
      Obviously I've enjoyed it or I wouldn't have stayed so long but there have also been some very dark times along the way.
      It's not for everybody but, if you take to it, it can be the best life in the world!!

    A great video, thanks for the tips. I’ll soon be getting my phone call giving me the dates for my POC (which should be sometime around May). I’m sure these tips will give me the edge I need, not to ‘beat the guy next to me’ but to help me pull them through it alongside me, at the end of the day it’s all about a team effort and you could one day be put in a situation where your lives depend on each other. Not sure if you still read these comments at all but if you do, could reply with a couple more points about the knowledge test? I’m pretty clued up on everything from the missions run in Afghan and Iraq all the way to what the fouled anchor on the cap badge means, but are there any really specific points that might come up as part of it that maybe aren’t in the easiest to find places on the internet and such? Thanks in advance and I wish you all the best in the future.

    • @travil2697
      @travil2697  7 лет назад +11

      Hi, all the advice I can give is keep your training steady. Some guys who weren't completely prepared for the PRMC ended up beasting themselves for the last month before training and it really has a toll on your body. You don't notice it but you will get more fatigued over time and will not be hitting your PBs. keep training at a pace your body is used to and rest for 3 or 4 days before the PRMC to give time for your body to recover. Covering the training in boots, this is controversial as I was told multiple things when preparing. I was running with weight and in boots as its what experienced marines had told me they did but at my PRMC the Corporals said that before training, by no means should you be doing either as it can damage your knees without proper training and conditioning so fuck knows what is right... worked for me :D Do whatever your body feels comfortable with and good luck for your PRMC man!

      I was running a 10km 4 times a week, 3 if I did a half marathon on the weekend. Swim once a week and then just bodyweight training for strength. did 2x max reps on all exercises (sit ups, pull ups, press ups) daily and that built up my strength over time.

Capita, (the organisation that deals with the medicals) is terrible and between either losing or delaying your documentation it took me 3 months to get my medical dates, only to go to the medical and get declined because I had "a little too much" wax in my left ear. went back a month later and passed medical after cleaning my ears and it was all prep and hard work from then on.

    hey some great points ! how would you say is best way to train for the push ups, sit ups and pull ups ?

    • @travil2697
      @travil2697  7 лет назад +3

      Sit ups is just a case of banging them out every day and slowly building up, with pull ups strength is gained on the decline so do fast up to bar and slow lower down. Pull ups is my weak point as I got stuck around 36-40. I recently learned from a corporal that the best way to improve press ups after hitting a plateau is to add to bodyweight (by backpack with weights/books) or to do bench press with elbows tight to your sides.

    • @uwotm8
      @uwotm8 7 лет назад +3

      Callum Firth I've bought a book off Amazon for a fiver written by an ex-marine (Stephen Robson).
      5 days a week and weekend rest
      Week 1
      2 mile runs (5 days)
      Ladder of 3 pull ups (1,2,3,2,1)
      3 sets of 8 press ups
      Week 26 (Final week)
      3 sets of 60 press ups
      3 sets of 85 sit ups
      Ladder of 8 pull ups (64 total)
      10 mile runs (40 miles a week)
      I'm currently on week 8 and have definitely noticed a difference. First few weeks will seem easy if you have a good level of fitness but you will notice running times and strength will gradually increase.
      Current records for me:
      Pull Ups = 15
      Press Ups = 50 (2 mins)
      Sit Ups = 72 (2 mins)
      3 miles = 22 mins 15 secs

The marines want you only to take what is required and necessary as in the field you don't want to be lugging around extra gear that is not necessary.

      +Adam Burring you have to take an eye test during the application process. Not sure what the requirements are for a pass. Probably worth asking someone on the RM forums.

      Nick Richardson alright mate! I signed up in January and have my medical on Monday. I trained for 4 months before starting my application. There is no set time between prmc and training it all depends on how well you do on prmc! Good luck mate!

    I know I’m a bit late to the comments here but if anyone could help me out then I’d appreciate it, as there isn’t a lot of content covering the prmc on RUclips.
    I was wondering for the PJFT or the 3 miler, what would you say is a good time to get your 1.5 mile run in ? I think I should be more than capable with the rest, hopefully lol. Thx for uploading this mate, it’s been useful.

      What do you meant not much. Search for royal marines they have whole videos telling you everything you need to know.

    • @Monkeybis
      @Monkeybis 5 лет назад

      Gay_ commando If you mean the Prmc video posted by the Royal Marines, then I find it pretty limiting, as it’s mostly just giving you a brief on what you’ll be doing. While this is useful, as you can easily prepare for the fitness tests and the corp history test but when it comes to the endurance course and the bottom field test, I find the info lacking in how to best prepare for those tasks. Maybe it is just me being nervous about it and wanting 100% guarantee that I’ll pass

    • @G_micky

    • @Monkeybis
      @Monkeybis 5 лет назад

      Gay_ commando like I said, it’s probably just the nerves of uncertainty 🤷🏽‍♂️ If you’ve taken the prmc course at a young age, I’m assuming you were pretty nervous as to what to expect for prmc. Sorry if you mistake my nerves with stupidity, it’s just that uncertainty of if you’ll pass or not.

    Great video man any tips on push ups.

    • @travil2697
      @travil2697  8 лет назад +3

      I struggle with push ups the most, only just found out from my Colour Sergeant that its best to add weight to your back gradually over time, as doing the same repetitive exercise (for me that was going to max reps twice every day) does not allow the muscles to grow and strengthen. I passed PRMC with only 36 press ups so as long as you are strong in other areas you will do fine :)

    • @briankelly8297
      @briankelly8297 8 лет назад

      36 ? that's what my average is now. Videos like this are a great insight into the real accepted standards. From my own research it seemed like if you weren't hitting 46 you were simply not fit enough. Do you mind me asking what your gym test scores were on pull-ups, sit-ups etc.

    • @travil2697
      @travil2697  7 лет назад

      I got 13 pull ups and max (85) sit ups. like stated I only scored 11.3 on bleep test as they take 0.3 or 0.4 off your score as you get 3 chances to get in time with the beep if you miss it. good luck man!

    • @travil2697
      @travil2697  7 лет назад

    • @travil2697
      @travil2697  7 лет назад +3

      3 Mile run was easier for me as I am used to running outdoors, all depends on what your body is used to. They don't give you your time on the 3 Mile run but I came 9th out of 38 whereas I think I only did relatively average on PJFT

      Might be a bit late coming into this if you’ve already passed mate, but I have to agree whole heartedly with Travil, I ran at the minimum speed and ended up with a 12:04 on my first run and then whacked it up for the second and got a 9:30. Not my PB’s but it was my first time on a treadmill and I would definitely advise training before your PJFT on a treadmill if you want to do well. Hope this helps mate
