Macktheknife11 Bro thank you for you service! I just turned 13 and I'm inspired to join the Royal Marines. I really suck at strength but I do press ups everyday so yeah man. Any tips for the strength thing?
Jacob Milford Mate, if you've only turned 13 you've got time on your side. Build gradually to avoid injury, injury is what stops most people. Best advice I could give is don't be too keen to walk into the recruiting office, you've got all the time in the world, use it and walk through the door only when you absolutely know that you're ready. In the meantime, make general phys part of your daily routine. Concentrate on power endurance. Oh, and buy an iron and use it, learn to look after yourself before you join. It'll pay dividends in training, I promise. By the time you join I'll be gone so, best of luck to you.

As to whether you should join or not, if I could answer that I'd be a very rich man. It's not for everybody but, if you take to it, it can be the best life in the world!!
i joined back in 96 at 18 and i honestly thought becoming a R.M these days would be far easier. ive got to say i was pleasantly surprised to see the training and selection is just as hard today as it a was 22 years ago.
Hey mate , I saw in the comments that you said you started RT and then left , I start training in two weeks. Just wondering what week you handed your chit in and why you decided to leave , all the best for the future
A great video, thanks for the tips. I’ll soon be getting my phone call giving me the dates for my POC (which should be sometime around May). I’m sure these tips will give me the edge I need, not to ‘beat the guy next to me’ but to help me pull them through it alongside me, at the end of the day it’s all about a team effort and you could one day be put in a situation where your lives depend on each other. Not sure if you still read these comments at all but if you do, could reply with a couple more points about the knowledge test? I’m pretty clued up on everything from the missions run in Afghan and Iraq all the way to what the fouled anchor on the cap badge means, but are there any really specific points that might come up as part of it that maybe aren’t in the easiest to find places on the internet and such? Thanks in advance and I wish you all the best in the future.
Billy Edwards you will also need to know the battle honours that the royal marines have and the marines that won the victoria crosses and what conflicts the won them at.
Thanks for the heads up with those 15 key points, worth the watch, thanks. My PRMC is in 8 weeks (got my date today) is there any last ditch advice for training? I'm running up hills etc at the moment and training in boots but every little helps, thanks and good luck on your training.
Hi, all the advice I can give is keep your training steady. Some guys who weren't completely prepared for the PRMC ended up beasting themselves for the last month before training and it really has a toll on your body. You don't notice it but you will get more fatigued over time and will not be hitting your PBs. keep training at a pace your body is used to and rest for 3 or 4 days before the PRMC to give time for your body to recover. Covering the training in boots, this is controversial as I was told multiple things when preparing. I was running with weight and in boots as its what experienced marines had told me they did but at my PRMC the Corporals said that before training, by no means should you be doing either as it can damage your knees without proper training and conditioning so fuck knows what is right... worked for me :D Do whatever your body feels comfortable with and good luck for your PRMC man!
Hi! sorry for late reply. I was running a 10km 4 times a week, 3 if I did a half marathon on the weekend. Swim once a week and then just bodyweight training for strength. did 2x max reps on all exercises (sit ups, pull ups, press ups) daily and that built up my strength over time. Hope this helps :)
@@travil2697 As a runner not nearly at that level, a strong swimmer and having a bit of a struggle with the bodyweight tests, what would you recommend for a less intense schedule (im 15 and have GCSEs this year, planning to probably apply at 18)

Sit ups is just a case of banging them out every day and slowly building up, with pull ups strength is gained on the decline so do fast up to bar and slow lower down. Pull ups is my weak point as I got stuck around 36-40. I recently learned from a corporal that the best way to improve press ups after hitting a plateau is to add to bodyweight (by backpack with weights/books) or to do bench press with elbows tight to your sides.

Hi mate, Great video and thanks for the tips! I know you e said you've left training and that it wasn't the career for yourself, and that fair enough, can I ask you to go into more detail please? Cheers buddy
If you have a previous injury that requires you to wear the knee supports then possibly yes but I doubt grip mits. creams are allowed as it will probably help prevent further injury. The marines want you only to take what is required and necessary as in the field you don't want to be lugging around extra gear that is not necessary.

+Adam Burring you have to take an eye test during the application process. Not sure what the requirements are for a pass. Probably worth asking someone on the RM forums.
+Wacko HD no, that shit fucks up your knees. Training with boots is fine but I got told by my co that training with weight without easing into it can be dangerous so be careful
How long does it take between passing the PRMC and starting training? Also, how long do you think someone should train for if they are wanting to join the marines?
Nick Richardson alright mate! I signed up in January and have my medical on Monday. I trained for 4 months before starting my application. There is no set time between prmc and training it all depends on how well you do on prmc! Good luck mate!
I know I’m a bit late to the comments here but if anyone could help me out then I’d appreciate it, as there isn’t a lot of content covering the prmc on RUclips. I was wondering for the PJFT or the 3 miler, what would you say is a good time to get your 1.5 mile run in ? I think I should be more than capable with the rest, hopefully lol. Thx for uploading this mate, it’s been useful.
Gay_ commando If you mean the Prmc video posted by the Royal Marines, then I find it pretty limiting, as it’s mostly just giving you a brief on what you’ll be doing. While this is useful, as you can easily prepare for the fitness tests and the corp history test but when it comes to the endurance course and the bottom field test, I find the info lacking in how to best prepare for those tasks. Maybe it is just me being nervous about it and wanting 100% guarantee that I’ll pass
Gay_ commando like I said, it’s probably just the nerves of uncertainty 🤷🏽♂️ If you’ve taken the prmc course at a young age, I’m assuming you were pretty nervous as to what to expect for prmc. Sorry if you mistake my nerves with stupidity, it’s just that uncertainty of if you’ll pass or not.
I struggle with push ups the most, only just found out from my Colour Sergeant that its best to add weight to your back gradually over time, as doing the same repetitive exercise (for me that was going to max reps twice every day) does not allow the muscles to grow and strengthen. I passed PRMC with only 36 press ups so as long as you are strong in other areas you will do fine :)
36 ? that's what my average is now. Videos like this are a great insight into the real accepted standards. From my own research it seemed like if you weren't hitting 46 you were simply not fit enough. Do you mind me asking what your gym test scores were on pull-ups, sit-ups etc.
I got 13 pull ups and max (85) sit ups. like stated I only scored 11.3 on bleep test as they take 0.3 or 0.4 off your score as you get 3 chances to get in time with the beep if you miss it. good luck man!
I can't remember what I got on the PJFT however I would recommend working out the required treadmill speed for the first run and taking it easy on that and banging it out as fast as possible on the second
3 Mile run was easier for me as I am used to running outdoors, all depends on what your body is used to. They don't give you your time on the 3 Mile run but I came 9th out of 38 whereas I think I only did relatively average on PJFT
Might be a bit late coming into this if you’ve already passed mate, but I have to agree whole heartedly with Travil, I ran at the minimum speed and ended up with a 12:04 on my first run and then whacked it up for the second and got a 9:30. Not my PB’s but it was my first time on a treadmill and I would definitely advise training before your PJFT on a treadmill if you want to do well. Hope this helps mate
You will start your career a year earlier and will be getting paid. as far as experiences you will shown everything you need to know. if you decide to train for a year before starting training you may get injured.
Also considering joining, it may seem a bit of a silly question, and I’m above the minimum height limit, but I’m only 5ft8 and I feel quite small, is this usually an issue?

How long does it take between passing the PRMC and starting training? Also, how long do you think someone should train for if they are wanting to join the marines?
Nick Richardson alright mate! I signed up in January and have my medical on Monday. I trained for 4 months before starting my application. There is no set time between prmc and training it all depends on how well you do on prmc! Good luck mate!
Anyone else got PRMC on May 7th 2019?
Daniel Helder Haha yes lad I do
Daniel Helder yeah same mate
How did it go guys??
@@GreenShadow42 how was it

I know I’m a bit late to the comments here but if anyone could help me out then I’d appreciate it, as there isn’t a lot of content covering the prmc on RUclips.
I was wondering for the PJFT or the 3 miler, what would you say is a good time to get your 1.5 mile run in ? I think I should be more than capable with the rest, hopefully lol. Thx for uploading this mate, it’s been useful.
What do you meant not much. Search for royal marines they have whole videos telling you everything you need to know.
@@Monkeybis if your not intelligent enough to find out for yourself good luck in the process.
Great video
Great video man any tips on push ups.
Trjavil cheers appreciate the feed back. Would be interesting to see more content from yourself on experiences in RT. thanks
Good video this, very helpful mate 👊
Cheers for the video, what time did you get at your PJFT and how did that compare to the 3 mile run at the PRMC?
I can't remember what I got on the PJFT however I would recommend working out the required treadmill speed for the first run and taking it easy on that and banging it out as fast as possible on the second
Ok cheers for the advice mate, but did you find one harder than the other or can you not remember that either?
3 Mile run was easier for me as I am used to running outdoors, all depends on what your body is used to. They don't give you your time on the 3 Mile run but I came 9th out of 38 whereas I think I only did relatively average on PJFT
Travil ok thanks mate and good luck in training
Might be a bit late coming into this if you’ve already passed mate, but I have to agree whole heartedly with Travil, I ran at the minimum speed and ended up with a 12:04 on my first run and then whacked it up for the second and got a 9:30. Not my PB’s but it was my first time on a treadmill and I would definitely advise training before your PJFT on a treadmill if you want to do well. Hope this helps mate
Great video, congratulations. How's training going what troop you in?
How long do they take to call u wen u sign up for it
about a week.
Cheers mate 👍👍
after the PRMC was your two weeks of training as intense as the PRMC
+Adam Dkhan yes it was to the same intensity however it was just more spread out as you were having lectures and lessons in between
oh k thnks nice vid really helps
cool accent
Where could I do the bleep test?
This may seem a bit wired but did u get goggles for the underwater thing?
+Ryan Patrick no you don't
Creepy background for this video
I didnt practise the bleep test once (did my last in school 4 years ago) but still got 13.5
+Nick awesome, I suppose everyones body is different though hence why I recommended to practice. There's no harm in a little extra prep!
Did u do a Pre joining fitness assessment (PJFT)
+Elite Legends HD yes, before your PRMC you have to do a PJFT at a local certified gym
Thanks
He's gorgeous!
How long was the bleep test length? Like 15 or 20 metres? Cheers for the video, hoping to improve my current, poor physical ability to pass it haha :)
B O I 20
20m distance, try training on harder surface if possible like grass/dusty footpath, will pay dividends when you are sliding about in the gym on PRMC
117 troop in may 2017?? Doesnt seem right.
It isn't. But it's close enough to be a typo.
Reserve.
Pros and cons of joining at 18 after school or leaving it a year or so to gain a bit more life experience and maturity? Any thoughts please?
You will start your career a year earlier and will be getting paid.
as far as experiences you will shown everything you need to know. if you decide to train for a year before starting training you may get injured.
Also considering joining, it may seem a bit of a silly question, and I’m above the minimum height limit, but I’m only 5ft8 and I feel quite small, is this usually an issue?
@@James-ne9zk nope you might struggle a bit on the 6 foot wall it that's about it.
ladies... you are not joining the girl guides, think of the hardest thing you have done in your life so far, now treble it. suck it up and grow a set !!!
How about you piss off mate
How much do you weigh? It's the main thing concerning me as of right now.
+IV4zx I was 67kg on joining but any less and I wouldn't have been allowed to join. 65kg is PRMC min requirement
Ah so i've no need to worry then. Thank you very much for your response it's much appreciated.
Hello as a x royal marine never heard so much rubbish how did he pass bottom line put in max effort and you will get there
Jesus loves you my friends
Jesus can fuck off, and you can too.
