I grew up the same way. There are certain ways of how things were back in the day that is missing and much needed in today's society. Everyone's triggered by something now days, everything is considered abuse in some fashion or another, and there are certain groups of people that are put up on a pedestal when all that's needed is more respect towards women, people of color, people of sexual orientation. They just want to be recognized as equals and human beings. That's all it is. They don't need to put up on a pedestal and made to think they're better than everyone else. People just need to do and be better. That's all.

I cant remember exactly what I did that finally crossed the line, but I was a consistent shithead around middle school/early high school. I came home one day, my bedroom door was off the hinges, and everything except a sleeping bag and a bible had been taken out of my room. None of my cool clothes, NOTHING, except a sleeping bag and a bible. About 6 months of that, and wearing the same couple plain white tshirts, slacks, and boots to school straightened me right out. Thanks mom.

I was on a cross country trip with my aunt, mom, brother and cousin for 54 days in a minivan. Somewhere along the way my brother and I started fighting, and my mom made us get out and walk. When we went to put on our shoes she was like "nope, you were fighting without shoes on, you can walk without shoes on" and we walked. Wasn't all that far, but the rocks on the side of the road hurt and the pavement was super hot. I ran on the pavement, my brother sat and cried. I reach the car and my mom locked the doors and said that we were fighting together, so we had to both be back to the car together before we could get back in... Good times.

Going through elementary school in the '70s I remember getting the strap across my hands from the principal at least 8 times... The most fucked up thing is it was something manufactured then purchased by the Alberta Department of Education and distributed to all the schools in the province for the explicit purpose of corporal punishment. It was two strips of leather sandwiching a strip of rubber, it was about two inches wide and 16 or 18 inches long with a wooden handle. That shit hurt like hell, and the reason why I got it was because I would refuse to homework and had ADD, but back then they called it daydreaming and laziness, I hated homework. Thankfully being in a military family we moved to a province that had banned strapping students...

You learned that there were boundaries and unacceptable behavior had real consequences. I was never denied anything, especially love, but you were taught there were rules that were to be followed and heaven forbid if you got in trouble at school. Teachers and principals were allowed to use corporal punishment (the strap). I never got it because I knew the same would await me at home.

I was born in the 1990 and my dad was a man of his word if he said "stop misbehaving or your getting a smack" you best believe he would do that shit, I got the belt, the ring hand and the spanking never did me any harm quite the opposite the pain helped remind me of the consequences of my actions I'm with burr the amount of times I've seen a kid scream the store down now a days and all I can think is if that was me at that age acting like that in public I'd be six feet under for that shit and my kids will have the same there is a big difference between disciplining and abusing, disciplining is when you come home after a hard day at work to find the living room trashed by your kid so you give em a spanking and send them to their room, abuse is when you've had a hard day at work and simply take it out on your kids when you get home. People and the law need to let parents do there thing and only step in when its actual abuse so often do I hear soft touched fuck nuggets say simply smacking your kids for doing wrong is also abuse when it's not its teaching your kids that there is consequences for acting like a twat it's funny how so many parents now dont understand why their kids turn into thugs when they get older and say stupid shit like "I dont know where I went wrong" I do love it's when you refused to do your job as a parent and let your kid walk all over you leaving people like me to kick ten bells of shit out of the pricks and doing their jobs for them fuck this nanny state world we live in

Born in 83 so just your basic belt. Only a handful of times, but I do remember when I did get whooped, it was for a good reason. I had a friend about five houses down the block from me in Chicago, who’s father hung a serpentine belt in the hallway and would beat him with it when he f*ckd up. You could literally hear him scream from your yard..

First time I got in real trouble my dad gave me a 2x4 and watched me cut my own paddle out of a 2x4 with a band saw and then sanded it to his specifications and then he’d hold me up by my wrist or by the back of my pants and wear me out every time after that and the paddle stayed hung up on his nightstand until I was about 15 lol

"Five across the eye." That's how I grew up too. Mom would use a closed fist occasionally when I was a teenager. And I deserved all of it.

Belts. My dad used belts. Never once did I think he was abusing me. I did something stupid or treated someone disrespectfully I earned it.

When I was 9, my new born baby brother was placed in my room and I was suppose to get up with him...and still go to school the next day. One night I was so exhausted that I slept through his crying and my mom came in and dumped water on my face to wake me up.

I would hear " go find a switch". " Get going, you gonna let me do it"?
I would try to find one not
    too skinny, or to fat.
    He would say, "
5 swats if you don't move". Of course, after the first couple swats- I was trying to get away.
    5 became 10, all while I fighting to run away ( my pops is 6"4 ). 😂

I was born in 1960. My parents rarely hit me but when it happened it was ALWAYS my mother. And usually, it was one of my father's belts. She had a terrible temper. The only thing my father did was he freaked out because I traded some of my toys for some GI Joes. He came home and made me trade them back. yelling at me no son of his was going to play with dolls. I was like here's my old man who didn't care much what I did as long as it wasn't anything too bad freaking out about GI Joe. LOL. Once my mother tried to put my head in the toilet bowl but thank God I was too big by then for her to be able to do it. The punishment I remember the most was just as Bill Burr said about the food but a little different. I was not allowed to leave the table for any reason until I ate everything on my plate. I was a picky eater so things like liver and fish would literally take me an hour to finish. I couldn't eat ham for years because she would give me this funny bumpy and chewy looking ham with veins in it that I hated. One day I helped bring in the groceries and there at the top of the bag was this huge cow tongue. All of a sudden I knew what that funny tasting ham was. The worst though was tomato juice or v8. The stuff would actually make me throw up. My mother was convinced I was doing it on purpose and at least once a week I spent like literally 2 hours at the table trying to get it down a little sip at a time. By the time I was 7 or 8 though all that stopped.

I remember being smacked in the head at the dinner table for goofing off. I think it could have been handled better but I also think that no discipline would be far worse. My theory now is that all discipline should be beneficial in teaching a child. Any that causes a child to lose respect for the parent will only end up causing the child to rebel. Heb 12:5-11

I'm about Bill's age. In elementary school we had learned a song... "6 little ducks, I once knew. Fat ones, skinny ones, fair ones too. One little duck with a feather lead the others with a quack, quack, quack." it went on, memories are failing. But I told my friends if you change the d in duck to an f. They told on me and my dad punched me in the mouth which split my lip.
Had belts used on me. And dad once upgraded to a table leg. It was flat and widened near the top. He also put a hole it it so air passed through so it hurt more.
Keep us out of food (sister) dad put locks on the fridge and cupboard. I told the neighborhood kids and someone's parent called CPS. They investigated, but never heard anything else. So I guess that was okay. My sister sometimes got into the plain butter. Eat it all alone.

I grew up with the threat of shit, like if my dad was really mad he would tell me he would sell everything I owned if I did that particular thing again. My mom drove me to a juvenile hall when I drove her van before I had a license. She told me if I did it again she would send me there. Im tellin you, I never did that shit again. They spanked me from time to time but they never hit me.

    I was born in 96
And I’d been hit with broom, belts anything even covered me on water then spanked me
But all that was probably deserved
I think back and just laugh at those times and have fun with it
