    hello from Greece! It has been 3 weeks since I've got my XC40 MY2024 Extended range RWD. The car is fantastic. Volvo's build quality is amazing, the seats, the interior, everything is a real premium experience. Car's range in a combination of highway and city rides goes from 470 to 520km. How much more kilometers would you need? Both trip and daily use can be done easily, max DC charge is 205 kW. The infotainment system is so well integrated to the design, without having enormous screens in the middle of nowhere. This is a modern family EV, with a lot of power and quality. Well done Volvo.

      My xc40 recharge in highway don’t go more than 300kms (from 100% to zero at 110 kms/h) in my opinion the range is not what I expected, it’s ok in city, terrible in the road, not energy efficient. Today my one pedal drive turned off after I stoped for 5 minutes. I went to the setinggs to turn it on, it was on and didn’t work, after I turned it off and on, still not working. After a bit, in the road home it turned on again… I got really anointed, called support and no explanation for the error…

    Thanks Kris, yes if it was not for the very poor CCS1 charging here in Canada (North America), I test drove the 2023 XC40 and it was such a nice car, but I did tell the Volvo dealer we would wait for the more efficient and longer range 2024. In the meantime, after I got my 2023 Ioniq 5 finally fixed with the no Fast DC charging (took 7 months and 6 service visits) I decided on the Model Y Long Range AWD back in April (still the Fremont built as now Tesla Canada is getting them from China now with less range (LG batteries are about 79KWH verses 82KWH for the Panasonic batteries in N.A. Tesla Model Y's Long Range). Cannot deny the extra space in the funk and under storage trunk on the Tesla, was really great for towing a tent trailer this past summer and camping. If I recall Volvo are also going with VTG on the 2024 model, which would be especially great for camping. We used an ECOFLO solar charger plugged in to the rear 12volt outlet (actual 16volt) on the Tesla Model Y.

    because it’s too low to the ground so the front bumper and protective panel often scrape on the ground going over speed bumps and unavoidable potholes.🙄

    In the US CCS1 is unreliable..... US$58,000 for the XC40 and now $48,500 for the Model Y Dual Motor LR .... the XC40 is just too cramped. And my Model Y seats are more comfortable than my wife's XC60 seats. I never thought I'd say that someone made better seats than Volvo, but I have first hand knowledge now. .... And Kris, you can control important things in the Model Y with your 2 thumb wheels. Volume control and mute with the left thumb wheel. Autopilot speed with the right thumb wheel. Climate control from fan speed to temperature and even windshield wipers with voice commands. Easy Peezy. You don't have to use the screen for important things when you're driving.
    And I love the minimalist one screen and in no way whatsoever miss the front screen. Just the one center screen says bling to me. Having the superfluous screen behind the steering wheel says dinosaur to me. And the EX30 isn't gonna have that screen either. Volvo is starting to get it.
    But we will be looking at the EX60 when it comes out, to replace my wife's XC60, especially since it will have a NACS port. But Tesla has the inside track with a new upgraded Model Y, but we will consider the EX60.

    Confused by the range stats here. MY AWD is 494 km (approx). Considering going for the XC40 2024 model year and I thought the range is considerably less...like 409 km with the twin AWD. I can confirm the MY because I have one but trying to get a consistent answer for the Volvo. I know it depends on weather and speed but if we say good weather on the hwy what is the real world range...409km ? (I am speaking in EPA terms). If your comparing the MY AWD with the XC 40 RWD then I can see the near equivalent conclusion for range but that is not what your slide at 7:31 says. Efficiency is yet another matter and I think the energy consumption for both AWD will find the MY much better. Please correct me if I am wrong on this because I really want to swtich for other reasons (comfort for one). thanks

    I considered both and longed for the model Y since launch. I must say I was a little underwhelmed by the interior of the Tesla and how harsh the ride was on UK roads even on stock wheels. I love their tech and I am a tech fan. I spent my money on a Volvo XC40. Why you may ask, well its how the car actually drives and makes you feel. Put the Ipad aside and I like to use some buttons still and also like to have a display in front of me. The interior of the Volvo is nicer in my opinion. The google infotainment is ok but not a spot on Tesla, however I can see this getting better over time. When most of me time is the act of driving the tech only forms a small part. Do I want full self driving. No and the partial is good in this car as it is in our Kia Niro EV. Others players are catching up but Tesla are on the leading edge and have huge advantages with their charge network ... however this is and will open up further over time to others. Both are great cars, buy what your heart says and wallet can afford and enjoy, whatever that may be.

    Few errors in your video. Charge speed for example; Model Y has a top charge rate of 250kW vs 200kW on the Volvo. Also you don't need to only go to a Supercharger to get those speeds in a Tesla, any 350kW of any brand of will.

    • @KrisRifa
      @KrisRifa  8 месяцев назад +2

      No you are mistaken my friend, peak charing speed og Volvo MY24 XC40/C40 is 205kW, not 200kW. Just look for yourself in my charging test of C40 here:
      ruclips.net/video/WWI3SM0tcRY/видео.html
      "Also you don't need to only go to a Supercharger to get those speeds in a Tesla, any 350kW of any brand of will."
      You will ONLY get 250kW in a Tesla at a Supercharger. Teslas are 400V, and the math is simple. To get 250kW from a 400V power source the amperage has to be at 600-650A (depending on the pack voltage, as some packs are a little higher than 400V). CCS chargers (which Tesla Superchagers aren't, even though they do use CCS connectors) are limited to 500A by the CCS standard. The reason Tesla can achieve 250kW at Superchargers is because they don't follow the CCS standard when it comes to Teslas, since they are proprietary. The certifications and requirements simply don't allow Tesla to charge at more than around 200kW at non-Superchargers.
