I have a soft spot for Blackpool Airport. After getting nowhere with Woodvale Aviation at Southport: aircraft with non-standard instrument panels and being allocated different instructors who wanted to assess my flying, an hour here and an hour and a half there, I moved to BPL to continue my PPL training at COMED Aviation. They were superb and I passed my PPL check ride with Bill Robinson who, incidentally had a pleasure flight business that he operated off the beach. My practise forced landings were often over that beach so that he could assess the beach and crowds from the air in order to decide whether to fly from there that day. Happy days.
Hi Noel. Another fun video, I was based at Blackpool in the late 1980s with an S-76 helicopter supporting the Rowan California jack-up drilling rig for Fina. In those days, there were scheduled flights in and out of Blackpool from the IOM with Manx Airlines. I have noticed that the upper harness "shoulder" straps in LB appear to be sitting at the side your (and Rach's) necks. In the event of a forced landing with a sudden deceleration, they could cause you serious injury or worse.
Enjoyed this one, I hung up my wings a free years ago after a scare put me off, it was a big one. I used to fly Liverpool to Blackpool at night to see the lights, worth a flight
Someone I know when in the Low Level (before it was realigned) was advised of "multiple opposing fast jet traffic" - the Red Arrows heading north. On my way to work down the M6 about 7:15 one morning there was an RAF Tornado orbiting alongside the A580 junction. Very unusual though! Just keep a good lookout!
I live right under the corridor, it's really busy, we also get a lot of military flights and at this time of year occasionally have Airshow traffic passing through. I flew it as a passenger with a friend, it was a bit unnerving seeing all the opposite direction traffic quite close.
I’ve just discovered this channel from your travel channel. Loving it so far. As a former PPL holder (unfortunately had to stop due to eyesight issues), it brings back my many jaunts across the UK taking the family. Great times and you’re lucky to enjoy them too. Your lad is a superstar, a future pilot for sure.
I love Blackpool Airport when I was younger and richer I used to take flying leason there till I ran out of money. I do have great memories of flying over the tower. Thank you for your video brought back great memories
The runway 13 approach, in winter, can be interesting, you get real lift from the heat escaping the houses on short final, which focuses the mind on how short the runway is.
Our family lived in the village of Davenham, Cheshire and underneath the Low Level Corridor so I used to see lots of light aircraft and helicopters using it.
Great video, as usual. Must admit I flew out of Barton for 14 years, and therefore used the LLR a lot, but it was relatively rare when I came across other traffic. Also Manchester were incredibly helpful offering traffic info even though I wasn’t actually speaking to them ! It was quite intimidating hearing all of the heavies on the frequency.
The LLR has a totally unfounded reputation about being crowded. I always transit Liverpool (never refused) but the LLR shouldn't faze anyone. That was a hell of a float at the end but it looked like 85kts instead of 65 over the threshold!!
The ASI in G-GALB is actually in mph! So at 85mph it’s about 73kts, but I agree still quite a lot of float, on a windy day it’s always good to have a little extra airspeed though!😄
Great video as always. With good airmanship and good visibility, the low level isn’t too bad, although many years ago, Manchester advised me of “Multiple opposing jet traffic at 1250 feet”. A few moments later, the Red Arrows flew right over the top of me!
That's fantastic. They do tend to take up quite a bit of lateral space though 😅 Flying around Lincolnshire they're a common sight while practising. Fortunately they often leave the smoke on while they're manouvering so pretty easy to spot them.
Another fun flight. I like your navigation package. I use ForeFlight, which works fine but I like what you are using because it looks custom built for General Aviation or at least easily adaptable to G.A.
🎶Every year when Summer comes round Off to the sea I go I don't care if I do spend a pound I'm rather rash, I know See me dressed like all the sports In my blazer and a pair of shorts With my little stick of Blackpool Rock Along the promenade I stroll It may be sticky but I never complain It's nice to have a nibble at it now and again Every day. wherever I stray The kids all round me flock....🎵
Wow Noel great video as always! I noticed at much of the way thru that corridor you were only at 8-900ft!!!! What a crazy little congested block of airspace! No possibility for noise abatements in that area I’m guessing lol! Anyone not into avaiation I’d imagine would not like to live in that area! Lol
Haha, yes the ground gets a little high in places. You may notice I tried to avoid flying over Warrington and went for the outskirts, no chance to glide clear if you’re over the centre at that height!
Noticed Rachel was wearing yellow/gold ribbon. I wear gold for our grandson who we recently lost. Wondered who yours was for, understand if you are not wanting to share. Good flight Noel you seemed to be talking far more than normal, was that just explainng the flight or down to editing?
I’m very sorry to hear about your loss. Rachel has two ribbons - purple for fibromyalgia and her other one is a jigsaw puzzle for autism awareness (Sam, Anna and myself are all on the spectrum).
@@FlyWithNoelPhilips Thank you for sharing, I think it is always a brave step someone to make and help raise awareness. I have a brother whose partner suffers from fibromyalgia it so painful and debilitating, me Iam stage4 cancer melanoma
Tells us 30,000 times, “this really tight and tricky” your mrs was even bored with the constant moaning. You’re in a 4 mile wide corridor, meaning 8 of you could be 0.45m apart flying side by side. Lots of dramatics again Noel. I enjoyed the video though.
I was the trainee controller on at the time you arrived, it was a pleasure to have you visiting Blackpool Airport, hope to see you again soon :)
Haha thanks Adam, and thanks for your patience with this first time visitor!

Nice video. That narrow piece of airspace was really cool to fly through keep up the great work

Great video Noel, even better seeing Rachel yay!
I always enjoyed flying. My first flight was in a Piper Cub in the mid 1960's over Abridge Airfield in Essex. Such fun...
That father & son experience made me cry. Amazing VT god bless ya 😉

Thank you! Sorry to hear you had to stop. I cherish every day I can still fly myself, and hope my health lasts long enough to let me!
i had my first flying lesson last week at blackpool in a 152 with westair, hope you will fly over the lake district!

Really fun video. Haven't done the low level yet. Thanks for posting.

If you think flying 65kts over the threshold with a 22kt headwind is a good idea then your probably just stupid.
Bloody love Blackpool, just came back today from our 2nd trip so far this year.
Haha flying straight over my house! Awesome video!
Haha asif! That's me calling up on East Midlands radar 😂
Haha brilliant!

It’s SkyDemon & it’s awesome!
SkyDemon is brilliant for VFR flying in the UK. I do prefer ForeFlight when I’m either IFR or overseas though.
Great vlog, my airfield is just to the south of the LLR, when’s it’s in your back yard it’s not so daunting.
Blackpool it’s like St Maarten, made me laugh.
When you flew over Warrington in the LLC, you overflew my house roof. Make sure you call in at Barton, on the way back!
awsome intresting flight noel
I went over to Gosport airfield yesterday to take up flying lessons. When I was told £270 an hour and an hr a week was needed my dream was crushed

There is a spitfire exhibition and a spitfire simulator in one of the hangers well worth a. Visit
Excellent video as always Noel 👌 👍
Great video
Are you going to a doc Martin type town?
When youre a pilot, do you have to train to do the 'urrrhrrrrrmmmm'
Never knew Blackpool Tower had ATC at the top 😂 great video as always!
Noel enjoyable vlog although your flight looked a bit choppy in a crowded sky. As always informative 👍
First time here and enjoyed it imensly

How much extra fuel would you use by having the family on board, compared to just yourself?
Fly over north Devon u love it
Wait... The teaser shows you wearing David Clarks. The actual video has you wearing Bose A20s. I'm a Bose A20 guy...you?
so it is legall to fly (in this instance)without a proxìmaty radar 360' identifying other aeroplanes.???..
absolutely! mark one eyeball is the best tool and the more eyeballs on the job, the better!
Hi noel. I'm subbed to your main channel as well. I'm doing my PPL and was wondering what apps you use. Keep up the excellent vids
Hi Daniel, thank you for the subs! I use SkyDemon for flying in the UK.
I don’t think I would like the seat belt rubbing against my neck I’d dose not now look safe is the no way of adjusting it
Who’s from BLACKPOOOOOOOOOL !
Noel, y'ever been in a Turkish prison?
No, but I’ve heard Noel is a big fan of gladiator movies.
@@therealbettyswollocks 🤣🤣
ooow its a bit bumpi, ooow what a cross wind, oooh whata drip you're perfect for the airline industry
That's one way to beat the bank holiday traffic to Blackpool! And can we have more flights with Sam on-board? ✈️
Haha absolutely! He’s a fantastic passenger/copilot!

If everyone correctly follows the ‘Rule of 2’ then Noel is right, it makes this a tight corridor, don’t you think? 🤔
Really enjoyed that, great to see you out with your family (well 2/3rd of your family!)
