Wing Chun is a good theoretical concept of elbow/hip But fighting is fluid on all levels WC fails in sparring against all round fighter. Bruce Lee knew this. Having taught WC now believe it's a concept that should be taught quickly. 3 years max. Don't waste years learning a bong sau etc techniques that have limited use in fighting. Absorb what is useful discard the rest and get skilled at bjj wrestling boxing etc. WC is too cerebral for sparring. It works in a stand up fight but only if adapted to suit yourself. It's futile trying to copy an instructor. Everyone's WC concept has to be incorporated into their own unique fighting style. WC isn't a style it's a concept. And an incomplete one

I boxed for a number of years
And then did a bit of wing Chung
There was also shaolin fighters there
One point I will make is they don’t exchange shots they don’t spar
This is critical I saw one guy get tagged a bit in a drill accidentally and he did not know how to react
    A boxer does
Ok a normal untrained man or women might not know how to react either but boxers are conditioned
A strong box fighter would walk through some of this stuff
Any ways just the way I look at it and not trying to say I know everything but I can throw many punches with a lot less effort and more power than the wing Chung punches
And if I want I got a head and elbows and knees I can get in also
Sometimes I don’t like it when people say boxing is a sport yes it is but with no gloves on it’s not

Most comments I see r saying block like that won't work. The man is simply showing an example, take what you can from it, don't have to do exactly what he does in every fight. Just take just the elbow movement by itself without following up with the slap it'll still work, apply that with your boxing or whatever other martial you do.

WC isn't a fighting style its a concept of elbow/wrist essentially Fighting is fluid on all levels. WC fails at sparring becasue people interpret & try to spar with it literally. Don't waste years learning a bong sau etc instead practice MMA. When I taught WC I used to incorporate other styles and people would criticize trying to prove WC would beat everything. That's nonsense. You cant WC your way out of a rear naked choke boxers punch flurrys or ground & pound. WC works in a stand up brawl but against crafty fighters who know how to move forget it. Bruce Lee knew this. WC is a concept that should be taught quickly 3 years max complete system. Any longer is frankly a waste of time. Absorb what's useful discard the rest. Bruce Lee discovered MMA years ago the world just wasn't ready to absorb it. Therefor in some regard WC is the mother of MMA. But it isn't a style and it isn't effective in a fight without a fighters own interpretation of the concepts expressed through other styles better suited to proper sparring

For this to work, sticking and twisting force implied. In Taijiquan this power is generated from the feet, travels through the legs, controlled by waist, multiplied through the back, circulate through the arms and expressed through the hands and fingers. Every bendable appendage is a potential power reserve. From the feet to the fingers.

Bruce Lee's base was Wing Chun. Wing Chun has some fantastic principles and can make an excellent base for anyone seeking to be primarily a striker. You just have to do what Bruce did and strip away all the inessential's & take only that which is most effective and mix in Western Boxing & Muay Thai. But the stances, motion, flow, redirection, balance and ability to generate great power in short distances of Wing Chun can be amazing benefits added to any strikers arsenal.

Now days most of the people misunderstand the idea of origin of different styles of kung Fu. Kung Fu was not create to fight in the cage with opponent who knows other martial art. It was self defense art which mean you protect yourself from unexpected problem "on the street" . So even many Kung Fu or for example aikido trying to fight with professional MMA fighters or other style. Useless because sooner or later the fight goes into a boxing or goes down to the floor. MMA or boxing compare to for example to aikido like pistol compare to knife. We don't fight someone with a pistol when we hold a knife. But! there are some self defense situations when knife is much better than a pistol. Similar situation is with Wing Chun ( whatever way we spell it). Of course in the cage is mostly useless but what about airplane when there is not much space to protect yourself? That style is really extremely good. Aikido is useless? Yes , in the " cage" but if you have a problem with someone and you don't want to kick or punch him because it can damage his body.... aikido is welcome in such a situation. That is what I think. All depends why you want to exercise martial art. Want to be UFC winner, my advice is to go to MMA ,you thinking about being policeman try judo, aikido and so on.

That has always been a “problem” - as you put it, with combat .,, regardless of a system/style . That is why it take time-in-training.

I think the message here is this "might" help and increase your chances of defending yourself against your average regular guy who wants to fight. 9/10 people arent at the point of actually wanting to fight, and what I mean by that is alot of people rather tell at you from the comfort of the inside of their vehicle with no intention of actually ever fighting. If you're as solid as this guy is (the asian demonstrator)(which is only more than average as I'm sure he does some kind of exercises of some kind) than he stands a great chance at overcoming a fighting assailant of this other guys caliber. With that being said, hes not demonstrating this fighting a trained professional, let alone of the UFC caliber professional. So no. This would be effectively DESTROYED by a trained professional but let's be realistic. If you're picking a fight with a professional fighter, you weren't going to win no matter what you tried. You were stupid for trying. Chances are a trained professional fighter would not be initiating a fight with you forcing you to defend yourself so the scenario of you defending yourself using this against a "UFC fighter" is already non realistic to start with. They wont throw away their 6 figures for a chance to beat you up unless you're absolutely asking for it. If performed at his caliber and bodyforce, it would be very effective against some random guy. It would at the least give you up some upper hand. Generally if you're defending yourself you are not concerned about lethality so tbh I'd be performing this and striking for the throat.

Been a huge fan of wing chun for its visual artistic approach. I’ve also been an mma fighter and learned fast my years of tai Kwon do would be shut down by good wrestling, shoot fighting and jiujitsu and though I could kick someone’s head off , it was much harder to gain contact with these hybrid fighters. Fact is Wing Chun was designed for the smaller framed shorter fighters.
It simply doesn’t work against many other styles and much larger opponents, with those skills.
Kung Fu is the most beautiful style imo having trained in fatal flute and fighting staff (weapons style) I really appreciate the arts and have tried to incorporate it into mma but it’s hard to do if you want to win.
Nowadays the best fighting is wrestling with ground and pound and jiujitsu imo.
But wing chun works when your kicked in the balls and that’s something right there.

You can't show a fighting technique without a thousand nobody's saying "but in the street, but in the ring, but, but"... But the reality is, there is an application, like all strikes, given an opportunity. To just conjecture and say, wing Chun is invalid period shows that you are a spectator who thinks of fighting as black and white. Please stop expecting every instructor to scrap with an assistant in order to instruct a method. That's dumb.

  • @kalenhouse
    @kalenhouse 2 года назад

The sifu makes sense but it only applies if the attacker is punching in that fashion. I don't think it would work for straight jabs, crosses, hooks or upper cuts. Wing Chun does work but under certain conditions as Bruce states. That's why he made JDK.

I don't think wing chun is efficient. I trained wing chun when I was younger. Then I trained boxing. Boxinf is much much more effective and simple. But some techniques in wing chun are also practical like this one. And yes it can work for someone who doesn't know anything.

  • @cliffbooth7075

This is effective, but some people are knocking it. Basically it’s not the only move you use to counter the strike. You don’t just do that then stop there. There’s more flow & more counter moves to strike the big guy and get him on the ground. If the martial artist hit him with a flow of hard & fast moves the big guy wouldn’t come back for a second crack unless he had rocks in his head & wanted some broken teeth. Wing Chun is definitely a very useful martial art and with its delivery alone can make someone not want to fight you anymore as it looks menacing when used with good technique & timing.
