I owned a 2018 Tahoe with the 5.3. OK vehicles. The 5.3 leaked oil and burned lots of oil and a lot of front suspension work had to be done at 80k miles : hub bearings, tie rods, u joints, ball joints, cv axles
The 3.0L diesel is not available on the Z71/AT4 because there isn't enough room for the intercooler to fit, due to the higher cuts in the front fascia. The Tahoe is definitely bigger and more roomier than the Expedition.
like it ... wish there was a more utilitarian custom trail boss 2 row model for us who dont want a 3 row luxury, family school bus . low spec custom model could have more payload and towing , @12:32 1583 lb payload includes driver, passengers, dogs .bilkes on the roof full tank of gas factory opts , subtract the 820 lb hitch wt= 763 lbs of Pay load
Tow 8200, it will drag that 5.3 down to nothing, I can't imagine putting 820 lbs on that hitch. I have a 2016 LTZ with 5.3, awesome passenger vehicle but I would never bother towing with it. Typically, only my wife and I in that truck, but we have made a few trips with another couple. I can feel how weak that 5.3 is when traveling with 2 average sized adults in the back seats, very noticeable going up hills. If I buy another GM suv, it will have the 6.2 or diesel.
I'm guessing it's for the better gas mileage, better towing and also, since the 6.2 only takes premium gasoline, the cost vs. diesel is more or less negligible. Besides, as JB said... the vast majority of these aren't going "off-road". Dirt roads, back country roads, mild trails... sure. But these will be on pavement the majority of the time.
To each their own. I prefer the suburban/ Tahoe models over anything Ford makes. Besides.... Ford has massive QA problems. Who wants to deal with that, when you can go with proven reliability in an overall better package? But, every brand has their fanboys.
My favorite big SUV! Had one many years ago. Hated to give it up but I needed a pickup more. The diesel would be a perfect fit for a big SUV.

You should compare this to the Yukon at4
how can we recognize whether it's a 5.3L or 6.2L engine?
Great review
Time for GM to update these motors already)))

I towed a 1000 gallon water tank with my 5.3 the last few years of its life. Talk about a screamer lol. It never blew up though lol.
I’m waiting for the 2025 Tahoe diesel 800 miles ranger
Time for GM to update these motors already. The 5.3 is last in HP and TQ vs all the competitors.
Cool
V8 or bust! No American SUV or truck should have anything BUT a V8... You want a 4 cylinder buy a European car, or SUV.
I don't like perforated leather. I prefer smooth leather.
Who wants a 3L diesel that seems pointless

Look into an expedition much better vehicle can't understand what all the hype is about the Tahoe/suburban I think they're garbage 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻
