Thank you for the in depth detailed of the video I recently got a 2019 Honda civic Si last summer and I had 45,000 miles on it and now it’s has 57,368 on it and not sure if the transmission needed to be change out or not let.
See how you're pouring the fluid from the quart bottle? Flip it around. Works way better. You don't have the glug-glug going on. It just pours smoothly.
Thanks for the great video. Does the transmission fluid need to be at operating temp before checking with the level/check bolt? Honda CVTs require it to be operating temp before checking.
Is the transmission fluid drain bolt washer the same one as the oil plug? Looks pretty straightforward I hope it's this easy in my 11th Gen Si when I do it someday. I know with my 8th Gen Si it's a little more work as everything is below, nothing from the top of the engine bay.
Hello! My Car is a 8th gen Civic Si, o just bought on February and it has 90.000 miles and i think the last owner doesn’t change the transmission fluid, do you think that I have to change it? maybe it’s too late for do it? I’m not sure to do because I am scary about the transmission suffer a heavy damage. Thanks for your help bro, I’m from Colombia my English is basic
Don't worry, it's not too late to change it! If it's a manual transmission, you should start changing it about every 30,000 miles. Even though it's at 90,000, it's okay to change it, use genuine Honda transmission fluid! But, never flush your transmission fluid because that can damage it. Always just drain and fill your transmission fluid! Hope this helps!
Does this apply to 11th gen civic si? Can't seem to find any info. The bolt to the right is a 12mm not 10mm. But the one in the center is a 10mm. Is that the fluid check bolt for the 11th gen civic si or is the 12mm bolt the check bolt?
@@Zspeed it’s 59,473 or something like that so is it overdue to change it? Mine is 2019 civic si got it last summer with 45,000 miles on it So now it’s at 59,618 so time to do it right ? Sorry to keep asking I have ausitm/ ADHD and trying to stay on top of taking care of this car for 6 years of payments but it’s not going anywhere right now
Yes, you can top it off by removing the 10 mm fuild level bolt that I showed at the end of the video! That should be okay and recommend if the fluid is low!
@@Zspeed it’s no problem at all. We all make mistakes. I have that exact set that you showed in the video I had to buy one to do the water pump on my wife’s ninth generation civic. So we use them to do my transmission fluid.
so you can use a 3/8" allen to remove the 3/8" square drive plugs? Or am i confused? about to change my fluid and i'm wondering what i should use or if I need to buy anything before I start. i can't find any square drive sockets...just extensions but they all have that rounded end so I'm worried about rounding out the plugs.
You're not confused, I stated it wrong, you need a 3/8 inch extension for a socket and that should break it loose for you. You're right. There is no square drives anywhere. I couldn't find one either!
@@Zspeed got it! got the fluid changed. was able to remove the wire harness bracket from the metal tabs to give me some room without removing the airbox. thank you.
Just did it for the 3rd time on my 2020 sport 2.0L Manual and I took my air box off and after that, it’s the exact same as in the video. Make sure to inspect your bushings and cv axles while you’re down there. You’ll unplug your MAF sensor and unclip the green clip holding it to the cover, then you can flip the cover out of the way (don’t be to rough with it), then take the front cowl off by removing the panel clips (work around the head gently so you don’t break them), then pull the rubber off the front of the air box (you don’t have to pull the two clips at all), then there are two 10mm bolts on the left side and one rubber bushing on the front right corner that will pull right off, after that you can pull your air box out and you’ll have all the room in the world.
You don't need to replace those washers unless, Of course unless you over torque your shit, I have Never had my plugs LEAK even on Honda engine's with 300,000 miles on them, That's with oil changes EVERY 3,000-5000 miles, I personally own 6 different Civics from 2001 thru 2020 🤓.
Appreciate the video- I love Honda's thoughtful placement of their maintenance items. Easy-peasy!

Great video man thanks. Going to change the fluid on my 2020 Si now
Thanks so much for watching!
Excelente tu video.
Me ayudó mucho y es bastante explícito.
Lo haré yo mismo.
Saludos desde Mexico.
Good video. I won’t be paying for this simple service again
im going to do this myself wish me luck ! im using this video as reference for sure
Don't worry you got this!!!!👍🏁
Why do the dealers charge me $300 to change this transmission fluid when its as easy as changing oil? Thank you for your video
$300 bucks, that's outrageous, no wonder people avoid going to the dealers!!! Thanks so much for watching!!
@@Zspeed Can you tell me what kinda torque wrench and extension you have? I need to buy one
Doesn't have to be to special, Craftsman is always a good choice!! That's what I use.
Most people don't do their own car maintenance and they rather have the dealership do the work for them. Thus, they paid up their ass dearly.
My dealership was trying to charge 700
I'll be doing this on my '17 LX soon!
Awsome, can u do a video on a antifreeze drain and refill ? None out there on this car , appreciate u , thanks
Thanks so much for watching!!

Thanks for the tip, I will definitely try that next time!💯🏁👍
I don't have a Civic, but I thought for sure at 06:34, you were about to get those clean hands greasy!😂
Thanks so much for watching ❤!
Great video! What kind and size extension did you use on the torque wrench?
3/8 inch extension! Thanks so much for watching!
awesome video! what size are the washers?

Thanks for the great video. Does the transmission fluid need to be at operating temp before checking with the level/check bolt?
Honda CVTs require it to be operating temp before checking.
No, just ad fluid until it starts to flow out of the blot hole and your good to go!!! Thanks so much for watching!!
Do the CVT ones have a filter ?

No, the transmission bolt washer is a different size from the oil bolt washer sorry!

So just to be correct the fluid that came out of that hole(wasn’t a whole lot) was just overflow that needed drainage?
That's correct!
Would it be the same for a 2018 sport? Iv been googling not much info pops up :(
If your Civic is a 6-speed manual, it should be exactly the same!
Thank you!! 👍👍
Is there a washer too on the fill plug or only on the drain plug? Do I only need 1 washer or 2 ? Thanks!
Just one washer on the drain plug!!! None on the fill plug!
Did they recommend that transmission fluid at the dealer ? I’m looking for a fluid
That's OEM transmission fluid from Honda, can't go wrong with that!!🏁👍
Great tutorial 👌
Thanks so much for watching!
The washer for the transmission plug is it the same size as the oil drain plug ?
I do believe so, you should be able to order them from eBay!

I haven't checked out the 11th Gen yet, but it should be the 10 mm bolt in the center!
The 3 bolts look exactly the same but the 12mm is about 2in long bolt. The 10mm in the middle is very small in perhaps
Do you have the part number for the gasket for the drain plug
Call your local Honda dealer for parts number!👍💯
Where did you get the torque specs? Also what is the torque spec for the 10mm?
9 pounds
You can get some of the specs off of the Civic Forums, but the Haynes manual has not come out for the 10th Gen Civic yet!😖
Some people say not to change it should I I bough my car in 2015 nvr changed it 150k miles on it should I change it
Yes you should!! They're taking about automatic transmissions!
I’m surprised your trans is still going with the original fluid 😅
did you put in 2 quarts
Yes, I put in two quarts!
Honda manual transmission fluid part number?
There is a link in the "more" section of the video to Genuine Honda manual transmission fluid!! Thanks for watching 👀!
Pennzoil Synchromesh should be fine ?
Is a question, I'm planning to change fluid also but not sure if will be ok

Is it possible to top off fluid if it’s low and interferring with shifting? Or is that recommended against
Yes, you can top it off by removing the 10 mm fuild level bolt that I showed at the end of the video! That should be okay and recommend if the fluid is low!
What size hex socket should I use?
It's best to use a 3/8 inch socket extension, I meant to say 3/8's inch square bolt, but I said hex bolt by mistake! Thanks so much for watching 🏁💯👍

Do I loosen that bolt to check the fluid and let the excess out?
Or did I just waste a bunch of fluid
Yes, the car must be on level ground!
So once nonfluids coming out that means I have enough correct?
