Pete, I really enjoy your fabulous RUclips videos. Thank you so much for your willingness to share your valuable knowledge. You are a very bright and talented man. You have a beautiful spirit. I appreciate you greatly.
Hello! I just tried recording on garageband in my iPad for my saxophone and I did this method right here (Shure SV200 mic). I actually produced a decent enough sound quality by putting compression at the middle and using the stereo spread preset in the producer menu of the audio recorder presets. I also layered the same recording and it turned out well. Didn't have to put gain high and although there was white noise, it was not clear because of the instruments I previously recorded. TL;DR: yes this method works with the right preset and layering, however it is still not the best but I did make a nice sound quality with my saxophone recording without a pre-amp.
Thanks for the video. I’m new to recording and I didn’t know about the xlr pre amp stuff. I’ll have to buy a irig pro or that one you’re using. Thanks!
No problem at all. Yes, it’s a hard one to get your head around when you start out which is why I made this one. Here’s a video that might help you - ruclips.net/video/7QOXjfB1ExM/видео.html
Thanks for this video. I have an iRig HD2 linked up to my PC through USB. I just use the Amplitube4 software that came with it. It's limited but simple to use for someone who is new to home recording. I'd use Reaper but the latency with my system is horrific - strum a chord and wait several seconds to hear it. As you say, iRig is good for guitar, but mics need to almost be turned up to full in the virtual amp. I have been using a karaoke mic (don't even know the brand) I was given that seems pretty clear.
@@PeteJohnsMusic I have neither an iphone or ipad. But I learnt from your video why my mic isn't brilliant with the iRig HD2 due to lack of a preamp. But I think it's just a matter of messing around with the settings to find what works. I do appreciate that the iRig is not designed for vocals.
I believe I asked you a couple of these questions just recently. This video has me all over it. My kinda silly questions and my gear. Hahahahaha good video
It’s more than likely. I have a document with video ideas and about 80% of these are based on questions I get on other videos and during my live streams!
Yeah, it’s a trade off for sure. The “best” way is to use the “Drums” and play in what you want, then edit them if you need to tweak some things. Trouble is that it takes a long time! I might do it on this song so I can show the process.
Thanks Pete! Brad sounds amazing live using this tool but it does not seem to be the best for the job.i see there is a pre amp version of irig that seems like it would be better (less accessories). I want to mic the acoustic guitar and vocals separately. I'll keep researching. Anyway, thank you again 😎👍
great video! hey man! i want to know if i can plug my irig to a behringer tube ultragain mic100 for ¨voice recording¨ on bandlab! i don´t want to mess up my device!
You've inspired a new video Mark - I'm going to break down why I don't use iRigs for recording. They are actually really good devices and for the right person they work well. But I prefer the flexibility of USB interfaces personally.
Good day sir! The video is very very informative and you nailed every detail one could one from head to heel but I would like to ask. Since the IRig does not have a pre-amp, what if i use amplitube, will the mic sound clear afterwards? And can I use the IRig on a desktop?
Hey there. Your guitar signal will be fine but even with an amp sim, your mic will be too noisy. Desktop? If it has a TRRS headphone jack - yes. Most laptops do. Again, you’ll need something with a preamp for any mic input.
Hi! Very helpful video because i am planning to put a mic on my amp. Have you tried using iRigHD or iRigHD2 on a microphone if the sound is still the same? Thanks in advance
Big Pete, from down under! 😝 Hey man, great video. I just wanted to double check what exactly I will need to mic my guitar. I haven’t been as happy with the plug-ins, and really just want to capture my guitar/tube amp tone. I might even just stop using my pedal board, and update my rig with a little with a multi effects unit-the BOSS GT-1. I just want a nice mobile rig, that looks and sounds a little more professional, and finally get all the effects that I kind of wanted to use. Even though I usually don’t use a lot of the fax, I might as well take advantage of what’s out there. So I have the iRig HD-2, Which probably doesn’t make a difference which one for this question. But since I’m using my amp with my guitar, is there anyway to use that power from my amp for the microphone too? (I don’t think the 57 needs phantom power, I’ll have to check again.) I was trying to kind of visualize it, with maybe a splitter, or maybe having to buy one of the smaller mic-pre’s you mentioned. I want to spend as little as possible for the time being, ha ha. So I was hoping to just get that 57, mic cable, and mic stand. What do you think? Thanks Pete!!! 🤘🏻🎸😎

Hey Pete! Came here from your cable video. Thanks again for the info! This really helps me out. One last thing, Im actually using a USB guitar interface connected to my laptop. Would there be any differences if i plugged my XLR to TS microphone in the USB guitar interface's instrument jack?
It will be the same. A 1/4” instrument jack won’t have a preamp so even thong fun you can use a dynamic mic, the level wi be so low you’ll end up needing to boost it and then his will make it quite noisy.
Hey there my friend. All the iRig guitar devices have the same problem I’m afraid. You would need one of the iRig I/O or iRig Pre devices which do have a preamp built in.

Sounds pretty complex my friend. Maybe ask over at the Create Record Release Facebook group at createrecordreleaae.com, or the Discord group here - studiolivetoday.com/discord.

What if I use a condenser mic with it's own power,,(battery)?
You’ll still generally want the balance’s signal through an XLR or TRS connection. studiolivetoday.com/gear
If I want to use the vocal live what device should I use . And if I want to record that on an interface to record on my computer ? Should I have to buy an adapter or something?

Hi there. You can use either a mixer or an audio interface to record to your computer, I have about these here - ruclips.net/video/1VC1Dho7nh0/видео.html

Can I use the Tascam with a condenser microphone?
Yup. It has phantom power. Http://studiolivetoday.com/gear
I gave away that iRig connector. Not very useful for anything. When using it with a guitar it's too noisy. The iRig Pro works well.
iRig Pro and any USB or lightning interface will definitely get you better quality and a cleaner input. 👍
I only use headset with microphone from Ez Voice.
Cool! Whatever works for you. 🙏
My microphone don’t work through irig pro why would that be Peter?
IRig Pro I/O? Make sure you check phantom power. And it needs to connect via XLR. ruclips.net/video/3iiNUDfIl5s/видео.html
I used it with fl studio, just use compressor to amplify the mic
Nice one. You can often get a lot of noise in the signal is you use gain boost, compression or limiting to increase the volume however so be careful.
