      Because Commiewood said it is and "look they have a eagle and a Kommissar and are pro-militarism" which of course falls flat on its face, but works well enough to justify a Leftist Media propaganda storm meant to bury the author and his arguements against Communism, against welfare states, and against the "____ that i want is a human right" statement under the label of "Fascist".
      I mean the bugs are the litteral perfect Communists. So collective minded they can't even comprehend another species as having individual groups or members. This book and a large number of others have a very strong argument against Communism...and yet despite many of them being very anti-fascist they are all labeled as "fascist" to keep them burried, or the societies they present labeled as "Satire" so you know to just mentally disregard everything and stop thinking at all as you watch the funny lightshow, "see how his leg was ripped off... funny... audience laugh now."

Also caseless is probably a dead end, polymer cased telescoped is much better and more feasible. Either way your weight/ bulk savings is significant, but not magical; iirc it's a ~40% weight savings for pct, which means that even a PCT 7.62x51 equivalent would still be heavier than a standard brass cartridge 5.56 (and I'm being generous with those numbers, the latter is less than half as heavy to start with). The M2 "Ma Duce" is the longest serving firearm in the US Military having entered service in 1933 - so 87 years of use at this point. The .50 cal is the epitome of "if it ain't broke don't fix it," and I don't see that changing anytime soon. The only other firearm to come close to the M2 is the Colt 1911 at 74 years.

    • @angry_zergling
      @angry_zergling 4 года назад +2

      The Colt 1911 was superseded by the M9 in the 90s, but the 1911 was still issued afterwards. Although the latest formal US military project I can find relating to it was 2004 by the Army Marksmenship Unit. So although the 1911 isn't 'issued' as a standard sidearm it is still formally utilized by special forces units of all branches of the United States military. Almost 110 years of significant first-world military use for that one. Then there's the Browning 1919 - that was formally adopted in 1919 (of course =) ) and variants in 7.62x51 are still in widespread military use as a medium machine gun - Humvees and coaxials on second-line armor and emplacements and such.

    @StevenJShow 4 месяца назад +1

    8:02 The problem with all of this, Arch, is that the Morita was a pre-war design. It clearly was NOT intended for use against the arachnids. In fact, none of the Mobile Infantry is prepared for combat against the bugs. They're trained against human opposition at boot camp. All of their tactical acumen seems aimed at dealing with pilots, raiders, and other trouble makers, not arachnids.
    In the book, they are armed with the capacity to take on entire nests of bugs in small groups. The Starship Troopers Anime actually does an amazing job covering this element of the SST universe. If we could get the way the anime depicted the combat, and combine it with the movies usage of the political philosphy, but shed off all the nazi imagery, we'd have the perfect adaptation of the book.

    • @StevenJShow

    • @StevenJShow
      @StevenJShow 4 месяца назад

      21:47 Again, the problem with a lot of this theorizing is its not taking into account the reality the film presents us. The Mobile Infantry was not setup to fight the bugs. They had to make do with what they had. None of their weapons or equipment are designed for the war against the bugs. The closest thing to that description is the nuke launchers.

    • @StevenJShow
      @StevenJShow 4 месяца назад

      22:52 That's their excuse, but if they had spent the money on building a few ape suits instead of building hundreds of mobile infantry combat armors and stunt Moritas, they could have built APE suits. Design them like an elegant space suit, and they would be relatively inexpensive to make. Helmet, leotard, additional armored and sculpted pieces on top, keep them light so that the actors can perform in them. Put some lights on em. Boom. Ape suits.
      You also wouldn't need the dropship to be so complex if you built the ape suits, because they are dropped directly from the ship in orbit to the planet.

    • @StevenJShow
      @StevenJShow 4 месяца назад

      26:48 I'm going to stop you right there because I know where you're going already... We see the bombers at Klendathu. We see them de-orbitting with the dropships. We just don't see them in action once we get to the surface. Presumably they were dropping ordinance, but the thing is... Those bombers can only, or seem to be only capable of doing one run at a time. Meaning they drop their ordinance, return to orbit, and then have to rearm and refuel for another sortie. It's not that they weren't at Klendathu, it's just that we didn't see them in action.

    Arch, one thing that stuck out for me about the live fire course in the movie was the fact that the targets in it were shaped like humans, firing human weapons. During the throwing knife scene, they keep talking about how their style of warfare seemed pointless, due to the existence of nuclear weapons. Disabling the enemy's hand, so that they cannot press the button, seems to only apply to humans.
    That Mormon colony that was wiped out by the arachnids early on was also described as being a separatist colony. It seems likely that, before the bug war, the Federation military was used to keep both the populace of Earth and it's colonies in line. Also, the bug war seemed to catch people by surprise, as well.

      AGLs are heavy and extremely wobly in shooting. Requires at least tripod, at best full scale vehicle to mount. And those are not AP, they have low muzzle velocity. If you need AP 20+mm, you will end up with something as heavy as soviet 2A42 or US M242 variation. (vehicle only)

      @@heyhoe168 Well, sorta. One of the most common rounds for 40mm grenades is the HEDP, or “High Explosive Duel Purpose” which can penetrate the side of LAVs like MRAPs. Not to mention shrapnel and concussive forces, 40mm AGLs loaded with HEDP would probably be quite effective. Even then, I don’t think average warrior bug could tank a regular 40mm HE anyone, much less a close grouping of them.

    I love the assault course cause I was once shown it on a briefing for a gun range on what NOT to do. However understanding that there were location and budget concerns got in the way, it’s not so egregious. Still amazingly stupid and annoying, but understandable considering what got in way. They did want a good assault course, but couldn’t get it.

    I was a machine gunner in Afghanistan and I would like to refute the weight issues raised by Arch. My standard patrol gear would consist of:
    M240B ~26 Lbs
    1200 rounds of 7.62x51mm ~45 Lbs
    M4 w/RCO strapped to my pack~8Lbs
    6 mags of 5.56 (28/mag) ~?
    M9 +2 mags~?
    Body armor+Helmet~45-50Lbs
    I don’t see it as unreasonable for the Mobile Infantry to carry 500 rounds.

    US army veteran here, standard loadout is 300 rounds for regular dude, way more if you were carrying anything special like a “machine gun”.
    With practice you can “snap” the sight picture of the iron sights or scope almost instantly, like almost zero noticeable difference between firing instantly and that’s if you don’t take into effect that when combat is happening it’s already up ready to fire.
    Muscle memory is the key

    Hi Arch, Thank you for the video. I'm a veteran combat engineer. I was in the U.S. Army active duty. I also served in Afghanistan. I only mention that last part to talk about my combat gear. You're spot on about the Morita, and it would be far too heavy, with all the extra rounds to carry realistically. You wouldn't be able to move at all, but they have mech suits in the book so it makes more sense there as you already know I'm sure. For the movie it makes zero sense. Especially for smaller soldiers, average, or even fit females. Not being sexist, I couldn't do it either and I'm reasonably fit and strong. Especially while I served. I carried 240 rounds with an M-4, (5.56 btw) and I also had a M-249 (also called a SAW) for a little while. I could probably have carried around 400 but it would be difficult. Some soldiers carried more ammo than I did but mine was the average amount. My total gear weight was probably about 50-80 pounds already. It changed sometimes. The Mobile Infantry load would be like 3 times that I would guess. That's insane. I've also operated a .50 cal and they're crazy to use. It would tear through bugs that's for damn sure. It's definitely not the same as the Mobile Infantry.
    I'm about the same size as Casper Van Dien. He's a bit taller. The only thing I wonder is if the humans from that universe are enhanced somehow. I kinda assumed that with the football scenes. They were doing flips with ease. It made the amount they had to carry a bit more believable for me at least. Though after your video that's laughable. I had no idea it was supposed to hold that many rounds. WTF. :) What I would have liked is if the Morita was a kind of rail gun. That would make sense for it's size and ammo count in that case. I just thought I'd add a little personal experience to what you said in the video.

    Typically, bullpup rifles have lower recoil. The recoil spring tends to be longer and keeps the recoil internalized

    • @AidanMyne
      @AidanMyne 4 года назад

      I've fired an L85, AUG and AR15....recoil was mildest in the AR15.
      Overall mass of moving parts, recoil/buffer spring strength, bolt travel distance (ultimax LMG is a good example where this is all looked at to mitigate recoil)...then how much mass you have forward of the trigger, the muzzle devices like directional brakes (Holbeck device or the Cutts compensator being early examples).

I.E a massive firing line or square footage of this is an appointment to volley firing 2 to 3 ranks deep on fully automatic would seem to be a logical tactic against bug hordes and more modern tactics for small squad engaments
