What a blessing to have a large family. Take it from a 56-year-old childless bachelor. Family life is the apex of existence.

I think this country could benefit from large families! It changes the way you view the world and work for a better future

Immigration is a result of labor shortage. And labor shortage is a result of declining birth rates. Its amusing when 40+ year olds with no children complain about immigration.

They go to Hasidic schools. Children are only raised to live in their world. Women stay at home making babies and subservient to husband. In US very high incidence of welfare fraud among those who can afford to take care families. Large family of 10 children of unless you have a high income will put you welfare in cramped homes. The women who have those children become tied to the home. The pill changed the view of the world and a better future for themselves and their children. The world of women and the children around the world is significantly better when women have access to effective birth control.

I think this clip was very misleading when they spoke about work. People hear that, combined with the benefit statistic, and assume they don't work at all. But in reality the full-time work statistic excludes those who are self-employed (sorry, not sure what the equivalent US term is). It doesn't mean those not in full-time work are unemployed.

I think of it needing to dig deeper into two areas.
      1) Self-employed; Doesn't necessarily mean being successful at it. Thus, especially when looking through it under the consideration of the amount of children involved, anything but being *_very successful_* is going to put you; _"on the dole."_ Plus, self-employed have; especially in all of Europe, various means of adding subsidies to their income. _(Example: Farmers of certain agricultural goods; get some serious money per year.)_ And such; will show in statistics, and skew them. _(Governments need to show fully; where they are spending tax-payer money.)_
      2) Part time worker; US or Europe, this is a problem area. A company can employ you part-time, thus avoiding costs, but also keeping you off being listed as unemployed. But the problem is; you're not earning a living-wage, not even minimum-wage. Add in the amount of children, and you have that higher percentage of those; _"being on the dole."_
That said; it cannot be denied that there is a portion of the Hasidic community, that consider _"studying Torah,"_ a full-time job.
      1) In Israel, the self-employed/employed rate amongst Hasidic women is 3x higher than Hasidic men.
      2) That said, the Hasidic community of Israel does not have the highest unemployment - "on the dole" rates. There are others, with far higher.
      3) But on the flipside of that coin, Hasidic unemployment is higher than either secular or orthodox. So there is a systemic problem.
      4) And yet to say that that problem has directly to do with too many Hasidic men wanting to spend their lives studying Torah full time, might be part of the answer, but not the full one. It's far more complex than that.

Very interesting and quite telling. But btw, secular Israeli birthrates aren't as high as Haredi. But they are at least double that of other western countries. I think it's a part of the Jewish culture/mindset, and been that way for centuries. People feel empty if they don't have children. _(And that; I can agree with. Having children and pets, animals around you, is a good feeling.)_

    • @isaweesaw

Secular Jewish fertility rates outside of Israel are actually way lower than the national average in most countries - usually 1.3-1/4 children per woman compared to 1.6-1.8 for the surrounding country. But Israel bucks all the trends of fertility!

    • @michaelwittkopp3379
      @michaelwittkopp3379 День назад +1

@@isaweesaw Didn't know that. But indeed, Israel bucks a lot of trends, in contrast to other western cultures. In many ways, Israel is unique amongst nations.
And yes, Israelis; Jewish, Muslim, Druze, Christian, they all love big families. It's the Israeli way of life.

Criticism of religion is a vast intellectual training field some enjoy. Be mindful and observe for yourself whether you critical of “odd” customs in all religions equally, or only criticise certain religions / ethnicities. No shame mind you, but a valuable introspection test.
