@@cokyrobes Size of updates is about the same as one long Netflix movie. Which I can watch unlimited using premium connectivity. So it makes no sense to not using it for updates.
I agree, seems bizarre having to connect to WiFi when you already have a connection... the only reason I can see is it may highlight how often P Connectivity drops out if updates fail.
I have to use my phone's data as i don't live in a house. The car sits in the garage where the wifi doesn't reach. It's annoying. And it should update through the LTE. (My previous fossil car did that.)
I was literally talking to my bf in my M3 the other day about how I hate the climate control buttons AND how the scheduling can only be done in the one way. I'm sooooo excited for this update!!! I need to see if its available for me when I get home today.
Got the update yesterday. Ironically for me it was the uTube music that I've been waiting for since getting the car. Used to use Spotify years ago, but then got uTube premium that comes with the music. So didn't make sense having Spotify as well. So this update gets a massive thumbs up from me.. 👍👍👍 it's way better than having to use Bluetooth from phone, and also not sure if it's just me, but seems to sound better too, also no dead spots as the Tesla data service seems very solid, worth the £10 per month. One happy chappy here.!!
I need this update asap as Amazon Music is huge for me and the family. You’re the first I’ve seen speak highly of the new climate controls though, so that’s pleasing to hear something positive about them!
Same! (though most Amazon I've bought, I copied the MP3s to USB storage in car, so is there. But, the Amazon UI is VERY nice (prev song and scrubbing in track works!), and I can listen to wider Prime or Unlimited songs, not just purchased ones, very nice! Good "favorite" songs/channels, & podcasts. too. AND, voice control WORKS to request/search songs/genres etc in Amazon Music!! (before was ONLY Slacker streaming.) It's a bit confusing, sometimes does Slacker still , sometimes Amazon... seems to search whichever is actively playing, which makes sense? but.. sadly, it still does NOT search USB music, sad for my 60GB song library... and, I can't switch source to amazon w/ voice control "listen to Amazon Music", like I can "listen to USB" ... maybe will get added? I'm mixed on the climate UI... too hard to see "active" blue text vs buttons. I couldn't find the Keep/Dog modes at first... need to get used to moved stuff..
Thanks Ian! I was just wondering yesterday if any of the RUclipsrs I follow had actually gotten the update and what it looks like. I am still waiting for mine.
I would like a notification to be sent to my phone every time the Tesla commences a journey or moves location with an option to notify a contact of my ETA updated if there was a change over say 5 minutes. This would be a great security feature and be useful for letting my wife know when I am due to arrive home. If this was linked to HOME and WORK and even FAVOURITES this would also improve the functionality. We have WORK programmed in to my daughter's house for our grandparenting duties!

They're not all going on screen. All those climate functions you're glad to see are on physical buttons under my 13 inch screen. The temperature and fan speed are on screen but things like front and rear de mist and heated steering wheel are all on physical buttons. One of the things that really bugged me about my tesla was the fiddly way of trying to direct the air. Much better with a physical vent you can just move around
@@justgetatesla I do it, because I sometimes want the air blowing at me but then at other times I don't want it direct in my face. And my wife always wants it changed
Some very nice updates, I immediately setup scheduled charging and accidentally chose a sub destination, I saw the parental control but I don't expect to use it any time soon The climate controls will come in handy in a couple of months
Ok, all very well and good. But ... as to Climate controls, I would like a few more improvements: 1) allow me to turn off the breeze on myself while keeping whatever breeze level my wife wants in the passenger seat. 2) allow me to turn on just the passenger climate and breeziness when I'm driving alone so I can keep the cab cool but not get that breeze which makes me look like I've had a face lift job. Again, thanks and especially that tip about single pull vs double pull, I'll have to try that. All these may be moot for me, being that I'm a US driver, not UK. And BTW I've been to "Old" Pitsligo on a fantastic tour (self guided) through Scotland as far north as Banff and Rose Of Hearty.
Thanks Ian for explaining all the updates. I'm here in the states...my car was sleeping so I went and sat in it to activate just now. Clicked on Software and it showed I had 20.8.1. (You show you are on 26.3.1? Interesting.) But after a few seconds it showed searching for updates, and is now finished downloading and is updating 20.9!! I was all excited, BUT 20.9 says it is only minor fixes and improvements. Boooo! Those improvements you show look so great.
Auto high beam for me seems 100%, I think it looks real cool when you see the matrix moving as cars pop into view. When I first got the car people used to flash me on normal beam, until I manually adjusted them, and aligned them using my garage door, doesn't happen anymore. The wipers are better than when I first got the car, but I sometimes still find myself manually adjusting, sometimes goes too slow in heavy rain, and then too fast when spitting. But then I'm maybe picky, because my Mercedes I did the same.. :)
How about putting the word TESLA on the back license plate on the main display screen…it’s minor details like this that make the car cooler…..with ZERO added costs.
Found it. You click the car icon on the screen, then display, then where it all says English, you tap on it and scroll up or down until you see British English, then click on it and the screen resets. Now it says bonnet and boot instead of trunk and frunk.

My Tesla has grabbed this update and it is certainly welcome. Some nice new features and improved usability. Re buttons...how many times they were tucked down and you had to look to locate which one you were changing. All in the screen means even if you glance at the screen, you can still see the road. Also the screen puts everything in the same spot within reach when bringing up extra menus!
As always, cracking video sir! Looking forward to getting this update. Wondering if I can trouble you for some advice? I am travelling up to the Highlands in a couple of weeks and went to order a Charge Place Scotland RFID card but looks like it will arrive after I’ve departed for the hills based on the estimated lead time. In your experience does the app get connection most of the time?
Schedule charging, (I don't have update yet), I bet it still does NOT comprehend the idea of people having cheap electricity allowing a start AND stop time + upper limit. I still need to work out that 65% limit will take about 5 hours to charge to after starting when my cheap rate starts.
Actually, I can think of a reason to turn off FCW. Firstly, FCW can trigger for ridiculous reasons, like when completing a turn, even at lower speeds, the car can think “Oh, you’re headed straight for that parked truck!” So, I’m going to warn you! BZZZ, BZZZ. But, you continue turning, and it just happens to be a very brief moment when the algorithm projected that you might hit that parked truck. But, no, it wasn’t even close. Secondly, Tesla insurance might ding you for too many of the FCWs, even though they are obviously bogus. So, if your regular route takes you down a narrow curving road, with big pickup trucks parked along the curve, that might frequently trigger FCW, and up goes your insurance. I haven’t turned mine off yet, but there are places when you need to go even slower rounding a curve, and drive toward the middle of the road to avoid the obviously too careful FCW warning.
Do you have your car set for ‘standard’ or ‘advanced’ on the software updates screen ? Mine was set to ‘advanced’ after the last service appointment, but despite advanced being ‘receive latest as soon as available for your model’ the cars not wanted to pull 2024.20.9 or 2024.26.3.1 down (from 2024.20.7). Swapped it to ’standard’ and within a few seconds it’s stared to pull 2024.20.9 down,so interested to know if you usually have the standard or advanced set on ?
I’m on advanced and it’s usually quick. Remember that Tesla push software releases to different cars in batches - a 2024 car may get at different times to a 2022 and that to a 2020 - regardless of which release mode is set
In the NE U.S. and do not have this update yet. Looking forward to getting it though. Excellent changes. Tesla does it again. Elon's still a jerk . haha
Thing's I'd really like to see: A decent Map: If you're not Navigating anywhere the trunk roads look like thin white lines and the side roads look like thick white lines. It's so counter intuitive. I'd really like a colour map, like openstreetmap, or the old OS road atlases, where road importance is illustrated with blue (motorway), green (trunk), red (A road), yellow (B and big unclassified roads) and white colour for the unclassified roads. Greyscale is just a really poor choice for a map. Autozoom, depending on vehicle speed, and whether you're inside or outside an urban area. I've always got about 1km of scale from bottom to top of map, even when on navigation, on a 70mph dual carriageway. 10km would be more appropriate. When driving down the A90, I want the directions to illustrate the distance remaining to the first roundabout at Dundee, before the next direction to take! It now inexplicably tells you to stay on the A90 in 10 miles time (minor road junction where no affirmative action is needed) and repeats that process. So I have no idea how long it's going to be until the next road junction where I actually have to take affimative action. It never used to be like that. It was much better and now it's worse. Map tiles to actually load up when you're navigating to a location without phone reception (e.g. the top end of Glen Esk / Glen Doll). Instead we are just presented with blank grid lines when the LTE runs out, even if you've set that location as the destination 2 hours earlier. I wouldn't mind it if map tiles were cached for planned or frequently driven areas.
There’s some good suggestions there. I actually rate Tesla maps and navigation, but when you’re not navigating there’s little point having the whole screen filled with it
With premium connectivity plan, I would like to be able to download software updates over cellular. That would be a big update for me. I have to tether to my cell phone for updates, given my home situation, or find public WiFi, e.g. at a nearby supercharger station.
But you can't still not warm your passenger seat (that isn't present but to keep the macdonald warm) without having to go into the menu... And of course it automatically put the AC on
I just did another trip from Melbourne-Sydney-Melbourne and the PB has definitely not gone away (when it is sunny). It does not like bridge or tree shadows.
Just trying to get an understanding of the charging times. Did that say you have to charge for 2.5 hours to get to Gatwick? From where you are that's probs an 11 hour trip + charging?
I like most of this update, but wasn't impressed by the climate UI @7:30 ... the status icons/buttons are MUCH harder to see now (blue text, vs big blue button)... wish they kept that old look&feel. though you have a good point about some control icons moved closer to bottom of screen, that helps? One thing, even on Auto, the rear fan has NOT been going on despite passengers seated... not sure why... before, it would sense folks sitting and auto-enable the rear fan? maybe a bug..
Ian, New to my MY LR. It says it has the Full self-driving computer but it is not with FSD but I don’t see the update you have my release is 2024.20.100. What does that mean for these updates? Thanks
@@justgetatesla So I woke up the the update. There must be something telepathetic in the ether;-). I was not looking for FSD, just explaining the software I had, but thanks for the clarification. Like you channel!!
I presume you know (and chose not to) that you could have had the heating controls for the windows, steering wheel and seats on your main bar at the bottom so everything was nice and intuitive....long long before this update...! I never need to access the climate area to turn on any of the above.....
Everything I dislike about the Tesla community in one video, even though I own a Model Y Performance… The warnings are annoying and Chill Mode is dog poop slow… Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
It’s all about perspective love. This is mine, others will have it differently. When you’ve had a BIG crash you appreciate the inherent strength of the Tesla and all of the safety systems. As for slow, vs what? You have a Performance - so you want all the power laid down as quickly as possible. Great! I don’t. I want umph and the LR has that. I don’t need the acceleration boost and I don’t want a Performance. Horses for courses
What annoys me about the music updates is that you need 2 subscriptions..1.tesla premium 2.youtube music premium Or amazon prime . So your paying twice for the 1 item
Another question (sorry) do you get any air flow out of the rear under seat vents ? I can’t find (or I’m missing seeing) any options to enable or disable airflow out of the under seat vents, but can’t feel many airflow even with the air on and fans set to max (and when sitting in the rear seat).
@@rhencullen there isn’t a separate button for rear footwell air. Turn the footwell on in the front and if the rear air is on then it will also come out of the rear footwell. Or I recently discovered it is very easy to block off the rear footwell air. I had stuffed a few dryers fabric softener sheets under my seats as my car needed a little freshening up. All it took to block the air coming out into the rear footwell was two little dryer sheets. Perhaps a lost sock has made its way from the dryer down there?
I only drive the car in chill mode - which is plenty fast enough for me -, unless I am showing someone the car for the first time. Why are you not taking advantage of the reduced overnight charging rates? I get 5 hours at 8.5 p per kWh, so it is working out at about 1.81p per mile!
Intelligent Octopus, gets you 6 hours @7p, and if you have a Tesla, your already compatible. Also if your car needs a really good charge, it will even extend those 6 hours into peak times.
Yeah, it's tricky. It took me quite a while to figure out: 1) put into Navigate your destination. 2) After it does the directions, at the very bottom click on the 3 dots to the right of End Trip 3) Select Add Stop 4) after you put something in, it will have it to go there first. 5) If you don't want it first, go again to the 3 dots to the right of End Trip and this time select Edit Trip. 6) It will show all the stops. Press and hold the 3 horizontal lines to the left of the one you want to move and slide it to where you want it (like at the end or in the middle of multiple destinations. Happy Roadtripping!
I seem to be a bit behind with updates as only just have 2024.20.9 but I always update as soon as they become available, does anyone know why I seem to be a couple behind 🤷♂️
I have a 2021 LR model 3 and this update is still not available to me in Ireland. Anyone else in Ireland get this update with my model or any idea how long these rollouts take? Feature I really care about is RUclips music and I am not a fan of Spotify.
Why you would turn off all those assist systems? Because they are utter POS after the "Vision" downgrade putting Tesla's assist system among, if not at THE, worst assist system on market. The amount of false alarms, breaking for nothing but shadows etc. & letting muscle memory learn to floor the pedal when yet another hard braking followed by the warning sound shows up. Nice car for sunny driving but SO flawed on assist systems i easily understand if people disable all the crap and drive it 100% manual like you would do in a 50 year old car. Not even mentioning the eternal fight against wiper-"auto" and CC/AP in general.
Show it in what way? The GUI sucks on the phone app. Won't the Tesla version also suck? And I have a RUclips Premium subscription so YT Music is free. And I still don't use it.
I was abroad and 2024.26.3.1 was signalling its presence for days. When I got home and wanted to install, it was gone 😢, today I got the option to install 2024.20.9 instead (I am on 2024.20.7). Next time I’ll use my mobile plan instead…
Just watched this video, then went and checked my car, my software is V12(2024.20.9 1a02147be9af… but it also says my software is up to date 4 aug. So wondering why mine is showing older. Any ideas?
Damn still not the real improvements. Shorter down times and a long range of atleast 500 miles. Then I could trade in my old model S for the new real long range EV and actually use it for long range travels. Oh well but iam patient so I along with many will continue to wait...
I think that’s hardware not software - cameras can’t do what a sensor could do if one was fitted. Though I dislike auto wipers in general and have found fault in them with every car I’ve had
@@justgetatesla Mine was top of the range Titanium model with all the bess and whistles. Electric tow bar. Headlights that turned when cornering. Changed for continental driving. Auto wipers that worked when it rained. My Tesla is not that far ahead on the tech and in some areas is not as good.
Joe mode is for when you leave your car to be driven by an "average joe", i.e., random guy like a valet. It is a particularly useful feature preventing them from hard accelerating, speeding, or blowing your speakers putting on disgusting music.
That's not true at all. You're thinking of valet mode which limits most of the cars features for when you give your car to the valet. Joe mode just reduces the volume of car sounds so they don't disrupt passengers as much. Apparently it was named after one of Elon's friends who suggested the feature
No, says a lot about the sanity of putting a 17 year old new driver into a car with 400 hp. Go ask an insurance company if they think it’s a good idea…
@@Plexipal I remember what I was like at 17. There is not a snowballs chance in hell that I would trust 17 year old me with this car at its full capability. The wisdom and sensibility of a 17 year old is quite lacking because the experience is lacking. It is wise to restrict capabilities when allowing your kid to drive something that cannot only kill him, but kill others as well if used irresponsibly….even for a moment. In fact, if the function to restrict the capabilities are there, and you DON’T restrict it, it says a lot about you.

I have to tether to my cell phone for updates, given my home situation, or find public WiFi, e.g. at a nearby supercharger station.
is this update available in the UK, I got a model 3 highland and I cant find this update on my car.
They release them in phases
10:57 can’t understand they removed all the classic games…🤯🤯🤯
But you can't still not warm your passenger seat (that isn't present but to keep the macdonald warm) without having to go into the menu... And of course it automatically put the AC on
Have they resolved the phantom braking. I was thinking of buying one but the braking is putting me off
I've had very few instances of it to be honest
I just did another trip from Melbourne-Sydney-Melbourne and the PB has definitely not gone away (when it is sunny). It does not like bridge or tree shadows.
Just trying to get an understanding of the charging times. Did that say you have to charge for 2.5 hours to get to Gatwick? From where you are that's probs an 11 hour trip + charging?
Thats probably correct - its a long way!
Unlikely you'd set off on that scale of journey with half a charge, so in reality would be a good bit less
Appreciate the answers. It a bit of an extreme journey, so fairly reasonable imo.
Still waiting for my update
Are you going to do a Model 3 Performance review?
I like most of this update, but wasn't impressed by the climate UI @7:30 ... the status icons/buttons are MUCH harder to see now (blue text, vs big blue button)... wish they kept that old look&feel.
though you have a good point about some control icons moved closer to bottom of screen, that helps?
One thing, even on Auto, the rear fan has NOT been going on despite passengers seated... not sure why... before, it would sense folks sitting and auto-enable the rear fan? maybe a bug..
Hmmmm - not sure about the rear fan. Worth playing with it on manual to see what it does?
Recently I got an update and now I cannot use TSD with my sunglasses on! Needs a fix!!
I assume you don't have a polarised screen protector installed ?
Ian, New to my MY LR. It says it has the Full self-driving computer but it is not with FSD but I don’t see the update you have my release is 2024.20.100. What does that mean for these updates? Thanks
They all have the hardware for FSD. It’s just not legal outside the US and Canada at the moment
@@justgetatesla So I woke up the the update. There must be something telepathetic in the ether;-). I was not looking for FSD, just explaining the software I had, but thanks for the clarification. Like you channel!!
Voice commands may do alot of what people do via screen
True! But I've never got on with voice commands. On any device. You've heard me talk yeah... ;)
I presume you know (and chose not to) that you could have had the heating controls for the windows, steering wheel and seats on your main bar at the bottom so everything was nice and intuitive....long long before this update...! I never need to access the climate area to turn on any of the above.....
I don’t want endless icons on the main bar though- I want heater controls fit for purpose
Please help - how to Disabling / reduce car music in reverse ?
Good question!
"Chill" may be fast, but doesn't have the "Holy Sh!t" factor of normal acceleration.
Agreed. It still works for my everyday commute of getting around the annoying American lifted pickup trucks though! :D
Ah, but chill mode extends the lifetime of your tyres too...
I'm more impressed by the fact you're listening to Porcupine Tree. Here's a massive high five 👋
When I'm down I Drive The Hearse. A very very fast one
@@justgetatesla Fear of a Blank Planet is my favourite album of theirs
For PT. And then Hand Cannot Erase solo
@@justgetateslahis latest, Harmony Codex, is also good, he's got a new one coming out soon
What annoys me about the music updates is that you need 2 subscriptions..1.tesla premium 2.youtube music premium
Or amazon prime .
So your paying twice for the 1 item
I pay just over €100/month for insurance and omnium for my 2021 3 performance in Belgium
Another question (sorry) do you get any air flow out of the rear under seat vents ? I can’t find (or I’m missing seeing) any options to enable or disable airflow out of the under seat vents, but can’t feel many airflow even with the air on and fans set to max (and when sitting in the rear seat).
Mine definitely work! I was almost cost when I rode in the back a few weeks ago. Sadly you’ll all have to wait another few weeks for that video
@@justgetatesla lol no worries, will look forward to that one coming out :)
@@rhencullen there isn’t a separate button for rear footwell air. Turn the footwell on in the front and if the rear air is on then it will also come out of the rear footwell.
Or
I recently discovered it is very easy to block off the rear footwell air. I had stuffed a few dryers fabric softener sheets under my seats as my car needed a little freshening up. All it took to block the air coming out into the rear footwell was two little dryer sheets. Perhaps a lost sock has made its way from the dryer down there?
Where the hell did the leg air flow disappear??
Not sure I have that switched on?
I'll have what you're having. I want to giggle uncontrollably too.
Is it possible to tell the car to take a specific route to my destination without creating a bunch of way points that it's going to stop at?
It should offer you a choice of routes! If it’s not what I want I just add waypoints
@@justgetatesla It does that, but when I add waypoints it stops at each one of them!!
I would love it if you could name it Wife Controls!
I only drive the car in chill mode - which is plenty fast enough for me -, unless I am showing someone the car for the first time.
Why are you not taking advantage of the reduced overnight charging rates? I get 5 hours at 8.5 p per kWh, so it is working out at about 1.81p per mile!
I’m on a business tariff. We burn more power during the day than at night, so a cheaper EV charge would be more expensive everything else
Intelligent Octopus, gets you 6 hours @7p, and if you have a Tesla, your already compatible. Also if your car needs a really good charge, it will even extend those 6 hours into peak times.
Still don't know how to add a stop to your destination and have it work…
Yeah, it's tricky.
Basically, basically, basically .... nah not needed!
I seem to be a bit behind with updates as only just have 2024.20.9 but I always update as soon as they become available, does anyone know why I seem to be a couple behind 🤷♂️
Do you have advanced selected in Controls > Software?
@@keithjohnson6510 Ive now selected it, so that’s maybe why I’m a bit behind.
I have a 2021 LR model 3 and this update is still not available to me in Ireland. Anyone else in Ireland get this update with my model or any idea how long these rollouts take?
Feature I really care about is RUclips music and I am not a fan of Spotify.
Update: yesterday evening I enabled experimental updates and when I woke up this morning the update was there. Very happy to be using RUclips music.
I don't have any of those issues
@@justgetatesla Sure :-)
And neither do most people. Ask them
Are you a progressive rock fan?
Music in general. I like a lot of different music, but Steven Wilson is definitely very high on my list of music Gods
I’m still on 2024.20.9 on my 2024 model Y 😭😭
Dude! You got to show RUclips music despite the fact that you don't use it. Be helpful for everybody.
Show it in what way? The GUI sucks on the phone app. Won't the Tesla version also suck? And I have a RUclips Premium subscription so YT Music is free. And I still don't use it.
Chill mode really
Still waiting for my update - due imminently (I hope)
I was abroad and 2024.26.3.1 was signalling its presence for days. When I got home and wanted to install, it was gone 😢, today I got the option to install 2024.20.9 instead (I am on 2024.20.7). Next time I’ll use my mobile plan instead…
Just watched this video, then went and checked my car, my software is
V12(2024.20.9 1a02147be9af… but it also says my software is up to date 4 aug. So wondering why mine is showing older. Any ideas?
It’s released in batches of vehicles. Sometimes you have to wait. And wait. And wait.
Kids who grow up on farms are driving as soon as they can reach the pedals…..
Sure! I live in the countryside surrounded by farms. But the kids driving round aren't doing so with 400hp...
@@justgetatesla 👍
Damn still not the real improvements. Shorter down times and a long range of atleast 500 miles. Then I could trade in my old model S for the new real long range EV and actually use it for long range travels. Oh well but iam patient so I along with many will continue to wait...
Tesla listen?? Auto wipe is the one thing that every one moans about it's always been crap. Has there been an update to fix it?
I think that’s hardware not software - cameras can’t do what a sensor could do if one was fitted. Though I dislike auto wipers in general and have found fault in them with every car I’ve had
@@justgetatesla My Mondeo had auto wipe 10 years ago and it was perfect.
I had a 58- plate Mondeo and they were useless
@@ericmorgan372 I stand corrected. Thank you for the information.
You wouldn't trust your own son with your car, says a lot about you...
No, says a lot about the sanity of putting a 17 year old new driver into a car with 400 hp. Go ask an insurance company if they think it’s a good idea…
@@justgetatesla Surely you'd trust your own son to be responsible?
@@Plexipal I remember what I was like at 17. There is not a snowballs chance in hell that I would trust 17 year old me with this car at its full capability. The wisdom and sensibility of a 17 year old is quite lacking because the experience is lacking. It is wise to restrict capabilities when allowing your kid to drive something that cannot only kill him, but kill others as well if used irresponsibly….even for a moment.
In fact, if the function to restrict the capabilities are there, and you DON’T restrict it, it says a lot about you.
